The contestant starts out laying on the bed (in their shorts) next to one of our beautiful models. We make the sound of a slamming door and the MC yells, “Honey I’m home,” which starts the clock.
The contestant gets out of bed, puts on their pants, crawls through the window, pushes his or her motorcycles about 30 feet (which will take it out of the building) and the clock stops when they kick start the bike and it fires up.
We plan to add some surprises for the contestants to liven it up evenmore.
2:15 pm-2:45 pm Wet T-Shirt Contest

MOTORCYCLE GROUPS SUPPORT TROOPS– In a sea of black leather vests, colorful patches and tattoos stood a pair of young soldiers dressed in camouflage and combat boots. With outstretched arms, they took in all the care the bikers had to give.
“This is great,” said Tom Coriale, coordinator of the Army Reserve Family Readiness Group, with the Army Reserve Center in Daytona Beach. “This is just what we need to send care packages to our troops overseas.”
Parked on the street outside the U.S. Military Vets Motorcycle Club were a few hundred Harleys and a single green military 5-ton truck with its rear gate down.
As soon as a bike rounded the corner and parked in the club lot, the rider jumped off with a bag or box filled with basic necessities, all heading to Iraq, Afghanistan or Kuwait.
Some clubs, from as far away as South Florida, needed trucks to bring their donations — books, T-shirts, soap, shaving cream, dental floss, chewing gum, beef jerky, zippered bags and even footballs and Frisbees. The items will go to fill 30 “care” packages matched to 30 deployed soldiers.
“They tell us what they need before they go and we try and send it to them,” Coriale, a volunteer, said. “We send these boxes out every three months.”
Marty Lynch, president of the U.S. Military Vets in New Smyrna Beach, said the North Florida Confederation of Clubs had its bimonthly meeting at their clubhouse and decided to turn it into a care package drive.
“Although not all the clubs are military clubs, many of them have members who are veterans,” he said during the event Sunday. “It is a good cause and(motorcycle) club members are giving people.”
Jean “Frenchie” Morland, sergeant-at-arms for his ABATE Motorcycle Club, said members were pleased to help the men and women overseas. “We care about the soldiers,” the Orlando biker said. Coriale said his group gets no government funding. His volunteers work with clubs and businesses to collect the items and then gets donations to pay the mailing costs — around $1,200 per shipment. Boxes are sent four times a year.
As long as the war goes on, Nancy Coriale said, so will the care packages.
“They count on us and we will be there to help them,” she said.
For more information or to make a donation, call Tom Coriale at386-304-2968 or the Army Reserve Center at 386-252-6041.

BONHAMS TO HOST ANNUAL AUCTION at LEGEND OF THE MOTORCYCLE CALL FOR CONSIGNMENTS ANNOUNCED– Renowned auction house Bonhams & Butterfields will again host an auction of rare and historic motorcycles at Legend of the Motorcycle Concours d?Elegance next spring, and consignments are now being accepted.
The announcement comes after Bonhams successful auction at the Concours last May when their inaugural Legends Auction garnered nearly $1-million in sales, which is quite a remarkable sum for a first time motorcycle sale. Already consigned for the2008 auction is the famous 1903 Rex Single once owned by Harold Williamson that won the historic 875- mile Land?s End to John o’ Groats Run in Great Britain over 100 years ago.
Last year’s results confirmed the obvious and that is there’s a strong demand for an auction ofimportant collector motorcycles and memorabilia at the world’s foremost motorcycle event,” says Bonhams & Butterfields Motoring Department Head, Mark Osborne. “It also demonstrates the continuing interest and upswing in the market for historic bikes.”
Says Concours co-founder, Brooke Roner, “With so many enthusiasts and remarkable motorcycles from around the globe already in one place at one time, an auction is not onlynatural but a perfect addition to the schedule of events.” She adds, “Bonhams is one of theworld’s leading auctioneers of motorcycles. We knew that if an auction were to be held that it needed to be done by the best and Bonhams was the clear choice.”
The formal addition of the auction to the Concours calendar now makes for two motorcycle auctions Bonhams & Butterfields conducts during the year, the other being at the Petersen Automotive Museum in the fall. The auction at Legend of the Motorcycle will take place on Concours day at the event venue.
Now in its third year, the annual Legend of the Motorcycle Concours d’Elegance will take placeon Saturday, May 3rd, 2008 at the ocean-side Ritz-Carlton in Half Moon Bay, California, just south of San Francisco. For more information on this unique world event, visit LegendoftheMotorcycle.com.

He told the rancher, “I need to inspect your ranch for your water allocation.” The old rancher said, “Okay, but don’t go in that field over there.” The Water representative said, “Mister, I have the authority of the Federal Government with me. See this card? The card means I am allowed to go WHEREVER I WISH on anyagricultural land. No questions asked or answered. Have I made myselfclear? Do you understand?” The old rancher nodded politely and went about his chores. Later, the old rancher heard loud screams and saw the Water Rep runningfor the fence, and close behind was the rancher’s bull. The bull wasgaining on the Water Rep with every step. The Rep was clearly terrified…… so the old rancher immediately threwdown his tools, ran to the fence and shouted out, “Your card! Hey,
Crazy shit, our custom motorcycle market represents so much more to this country than cheap mpg transportation. It’s the essence of freedom, the last bastion of the Code of the West and a glistening metal flake reminder of what this country was supposedly based on. So let’s party every night and defend and respect freedom during the day.
So what’s it all about? Check the news. Between global warming and safetycrats they want us wrapped and tied 24/7. I say there’s a balance, but we’ll see. In the meantime the El Diablo run approaches and so does the Legend of the Motorcycle Concourse in Half Moon Bay. I’ll tell you about my plans shortly.
Here’s my bullshit tech, money saving tip for the week. Quit buying bottled water. In most cases tap water in the United States is cleaner. A recent case Western Reserve University report found that 15 of 39 samples had bacterial counts almost twice as high as Cleveland tap water. Here’s the financial aspect: A single 20-ounce bottle of water costing $1.50 would pay for about 1,000 gallons of municipal water–enough to fill that same bottle every day for 13 years. Okay, let’s touch on global warming: It takes 1.5 million barrels of crude oil to create the plastic in just one year’s worth of water bottles. Then think about transporting this shit from Fiji, France and Maine to L.A. Then there’s the trash aspect. That plastic crap is everywhere.
This article from The Week Magazine pointed out that people are changing their attitudes regarding bottled water. Cities are banning it from job sites, etc. Incredible!

BRING GAS PRICES DOWN–Here’s the idea: For the rest of this year, DON’T purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest companies (which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL.
If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce theirprices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have tofollow suit.
But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon and Mobil gas buyers. It’s really simple to do! Now, don’t wimp out on me at this. SPREAD THE WORD.

RUCKER PERFORMANCE INTRODUCES 2008 PREDATOR–Rucker Performance is proud to introduce the 2008 Predator model. Building on the traditional look of the renowned Predator, the new model features a re-designed, hand-built frame, new billet swingarm, re-designed oil tank, gas tank and rear fender for a more contoured look.
Although the profile of the bike is changing, the high standard of Rucker Performance is not. ?By building the frame in house, we will be able to offer better quality bikes to our customers. The redesigned profile of the Predator serves to enhance the performance and ride of the bike, says Erin Rucker, Chief Operations Officer of Rucker Performance.
The Predator will be debuting in the 2008 model line up of Rucker Performance motorcycles.
For more information or to purchase a Predator, visit www.ruckerperformance.com or call 817.838.3200.
From Bill and Erin Rucker:
Last year was a wonderful one for Rucker Performance. We were among five industry leaders to build the Project X bike, which was revealed at the Cincinnati V-Twin Show in February. The bike, which used the new X-Wedge Motor, was also the first motorcycle that Caroll Shelby endorsed, making it officially part of the Shelby product line.
The Predator took the award for ?Custom Production Bike of the Year? at this same show. In addition, we sponsored the AHDRA rally in Ennis, Texas in May, which was a huge success.
In August, our Nostalgia Bike project was featured at the 30th Anniversary of Elvis?s birthday at Graceland located in Memphis, Tennessee.
Towards the end of the year we began production on the Shelby, introduced the new 2008 Copperhead and updated our classic Predator. We look forward to another successful year in 2008.

MORE VETERAN’S EFFORTS FROM CRO CUSTOMS–I’ve been mulling over an idea to organize an event for wounded veterans. My dad was 100% DAV WWII and it’s something I’ve always wanted to do. I’ve been donating for years, but it would be great to put on a run/event where 100% of the cash goes to DAV.
Are you aware of any such events in California?Would you be interested in helping me get it rolling or participating in some way?

HINES LAUNCHES 2008 SEASON WITH FINAL ROUND APPEARANCE– Runner-Up Finish Moves Three-Time Champ into Second in Point Standings.
GAINSVILLE, Fla. (March 17, 2008) ? Andrew Hines started his pursuit of a fourth NHRA Pro Stock Bike title with four straight 6-second passes at the track where he recorded the class?s first-ever sub-7-second run, but it wasn?t enough to secure his 14th career win on his Screamin’ Eagle/Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson V-Rod.
Despite a heart-breaking loss in the final round of the 2007 season at Pomona that cost him a fourth championship, Hines came out swinging at the season-opener in Gainesville with a No. 3 qualifying spot and four consecutive 6-second passes that thrust him into a final round showdown against eventual winner Matt Guidera on his Mohegan Sun/Rocklin Motorsports Buell. En route to the finals, Hines bested Junior Pippin and Angie McBride with 6.96-, 6.95-second passes in the first and second rounds, respectively, before knocking off reigning champ Matt Smith in the semifinals with a perfect .000-second reaction time and a 6.793-second pass that matched Smith?s elapsed time. Hines then lost in the finals with a 6.98 to Guidera?s 6.94.
It was a disappointing loss, but making it to the finals in the first race of the season helps keep the team?s morale up, Hines said. Last year at this time we were struggling to find the right setup, so to start out of the box so competitively is great. Both motorcycles are running real well, and as long as we keep the V-Rods running consistent, the round wins will keep on coming.
Hines teammate Eddie Krawiec, who qualified fourth, beat Michael Ray in the first round with a 6.97 before red-lighting in a second-round loss to Chip Ellis.
What a way to start the season, with both bikes qualifying and Andrew making it to the finals. The Gainesville fans are so enthusiastic about our bikes and the riders really enjoy this event, said Harley-Davidson Racing Manager Anne Paluso. Last year we really struggled at the season opener and this was a refreshing change for the 2008 season.

INDEPENDENT GAS TANK CO RETURNS–INDEPENDENT Gas Tank Co is back in business and remains under the control of original founder Kyle Krejci. After a deal to sell the company fell through last year, Kyle took a break from the industry but he has now returned and is back to business as usual.
The reborn company is now based in a smaller shop of 2,000 sq ft in Gilbert, Arizona, a move which Kyle is pleased about; “It has been a good thing. It is allowing me to get back to maintaining the quality of the product we’ve always been known for. The lower overheads of the new facility have allowed me to lower the prices too.”
While the prices may have come down, the range remains as extensive as ever. Independent Gas Tank can manufacture custom, one-off gas tanks and fenders through to OE production runs running into multiple figures, all made from materials sourced within the USA.
The quality of work undertaken can be guaranteed by Kyle’s lifelong career in metal fabrication, which began when he left college and began converting Porsche street cars into race cars. This was followed by a period spent taking care of sheet metal fabrication at Bourget’s Bike Works before establishing Independent Gas Tank Company in 1999.
All of Independent’s gas tanks are handcrafted from 16-gauge cold rolled steel and pressure tested after being TIG welded. The company’s fender blanks are made from TIG welded 14-gauge cold rolled steel and available for 16in-21in front wheels in all widths and 18in 200, 240, 250, 280, 300-310 rears.

HOLD UP FOR A QUIET MOMENT OF REFLECTION– A group of friars were behind on their belfry payments, so they opened up a small florist shop to raise funds. Since everyone liked to buy flowers from the men of God, a rival florist across town thought the competition was unfair. He asked the good fathers to close down, but they would not.
He went back and begged the friars to close. They ignored him. So, the rival florist hired Hugh MacTaggart, the roughest and most vicious thug in town, to “persuade” them to close. Hugh beat up the friars and trashed their store, saying he’d be back if they didn’t close up shop.
Terrified, they did so, thereby proving that only Hugh can prevent florist friars.

S&S DELIVERS NHRA PRO STOCK GATORNATIONALS REPORT–LA CROSSE, WI (March 17, 2008) S&S? Cycle announces a great weekend of NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle Racing at the Gatornationals.
The season opener of the NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle racing season was packed full of S&S 160ci Billet Pro Stock powered machines in the finals. A total of eight S&S powered Buells went to the eliminations on Sunday morning, with five moving onto the second round of eliminations.
The talk of the weekend had to be Matt Guidera and his Mohegan Sun/Rocklin Motorsports S&S powered Buell. Not only did Guidera score as top qualifier, he made the most of his time on the track with passes at 7.000, 6.922, 6.955, 6.944, 6.943 and 6.949! His well-tuned bike netted him the win over Andrew Hines on the Screamin? Eagle H-D in the final round.
“This is a great season start, for the first time in NHRA history half of the elimination field was S&S powered. With bad weather on Friday creating a minimum number of qualifying runs, the results were great. All of the teams show great promise going to Houston. Congratulations to Matt Guidera on his win and Matt Smith on his riding through the weekend. Expect to see S&S powered bikes in the hunt all season long” said Charlie Hadayia, S&S Sr.Manager of Customer Relations and Race.
Throughout the weekend, it seemed like S&S powered bikes were everywhere.Chris Rivas, on the Drag Specialties/S&S/G Squared Motorsports bike fought some electrical gremlins but still won a few rounds. Angelle Sampey on the Rush Racing Products S&S powered Buell?her first race on the v-twin?won her first round of eliminations. Angie McBride on her S&S powered Buell also scored a first round win.
Hector Arana made it to eliminations on his Lucas Oil S&S powered Buell, but met up with Guidera?s 6.955 pass and went out early. The Vroom Racing S&S powered Buell, ridden by Michael Ray also made it to the first round of eliminations, but didn?t make it to the second round.
It was the same thing for Junior Pippin on his Stone Mountain H-D/Granite Mountain H-D/Piranha S&S powered Buell. Matt Smith, 2007 champion, and his NitroFish/Torco S&S powered Buell made it to the third round of eliminations for a good start to his season.

BIKERNET MEDICAL CENTER RESEARCH FINDINGS–STARTLING NEWS– When I received my cholesterol test results the other day, I wanted everyone I could tell to hear this. My cholesterol has been hovering around 190 for years, which is not bad. However, my good cholesterol has been on the low end of normal and my bad cholesterol has been on the high side of normal.
Six months ago after the test results came in, my doctor put me on two things that all health food stores and many supermarkets and drug stores nowcarry: Fish Oil and Red Yeast Rice. They are in capsule form, and I have taken two of each every single day for six months. Check out these eye-popping changes, done without artificial drug solutions:

CARNEGIE MELLON STUDY SHOWS JUST LISTENING TO CELL PHONES SIGNIFICANTLY IMPAIRS DRIVERS– Brain Imaging Reveals Drivers Are Distracted Even if They Don’t Talk.
PITTSBURGH: Carnegie Mellon University scientists have shown that just listening to a cell phone while driving is a significant distraction, and it causes drivers to commit some of the same types of driving errors that can occur under the influence of alcohol.
The use of cell phones, including dialing and texting, has long been a safety concern for drivers. But the Carnegie Mellon study, for the first time, used brain imaging to document that listening alone reduces by 37 percent the amount of brain activity associated with driving. This can cause drivers to weave out of their lane, based on the performance of subjects using a driving simulator.
The findings, to be reported in an upcoming issue of the journal Brain Research, show that making cell phones hands-free or voice-activated is not sufficient in eliminating distractions to drivers. “Drivers need to keep not only their hands on the wheel; they also have to keep their brains on the road,” said neuroscientist Marcel Just, director of the Center for Cognitive Brain Imaging.
Other distractions, such as eating, listening to the radio or talking with a passenger, also can divert a driver. Though it is not known how these activities compare to cell phone use, Just said there are reasons to believe cell phones may be especially distracting. “Talking on a cell phone has a special social demand, such that not attending to the cell conversation can be interpreted as rude, insulting behavior,” he noted. A passenger, by contrast, is likely to recognize increased demands on the driver’s attention and stop talking.
The 29 study volunteers used a driving simulator while inside an MRI brain scanner. They steered a car along a virtual winding road at a fixed, challenging speed, either while they were undisturbed, or while they were deciding whether a sentence they heard was true or false. Just’s team used state-of-the-art functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) methods to measure activity in 20,000 brain locations, each about the size of a peppercorn. Measurements were made every second.
The driving-while-listening condition produced a 37 percent decrease in activity of the brain’s parietal lobe, which is associated with driving. This portion of the brain integrates sensory information and is critical for spatial sense and navigation. Activity was also reduced in the occipital lobe, which processes visual information.
The other impact of driving-while-listening was a significant deterioration in the quality of driving. Subjects who were listening committed more lane maintenance errors, such as hitting a simulated guardrail, and deviating from the middle of the lane. Both kinds of influences decrease the brain’s capacity to drive well, and that decrease can be costly when the margin for error is small.
“The clear implication is that engaging in a demanding conversation could jeopardize judgment and reaction time if an atypical or unusual driving situation arose,” Just said. “Heavy traffic is no place for an involved personal or business discussion, let alone texting.”
Because driving and listening draw on two different brain networks, scientists had previously suspected that the networks could work independently on each task. But Just said this study demonstrates that there is only so much that the brain can do at one time, no matter how different the two tasks are.
“Drivers’ seats in many vehicles are becoming highly instrumented cockpits,” Just said, “and during difficult driving situations, they require the undivided attention of the driver’s brain.”
The project was funded by the Office of Naval Research. Other members of the research team included post-doctoral research associate Timothy Keller and research assistant Jacquelyn Cynkar. If you’re having any problems with the Bikernet after the Communist Chinese had their way with it, hit Refresh first. If it still doesn’t work, send me a note and we will correct it. Actually back in September of ’07 dozens of German Military computers were infected with spyware manufactured by the Chinese People’s Liberation Army. The sophisticated spy software was disguised as PowerPoint or Microsoft Word programs. They appear to be doing this for industrial espionage and you know about the high level of classified, top secret custom shit on Bikernet. It was a major threat to national security and the metal flake gods.
When we called the Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao, hepromised to “crack down” on hackers.
So, is this a crazed week or what? I say we fight helmet laws and legalize prostitution. Look at the governor of New York. If it was legal, he coulda got laid and kept his job. Same with President Clinton a few years back. Start a line of sexual clinics and take care of biz.
I listened to a bit about Gun laws recently regarding another school shooting. The subject came up that if kids had guns, maybe they could defend themselves. A cop said, “On no. When we show up how will we know the good guy from the bad?”
That pissed me off. When the cops arrived all the kids were dead. That excuse is bullshit. Besides if some kids were packing and the assailant knew it, he probably wouldn’t attack in the first place. When I was a kid I had to attend the NRA gun-training course before I could fire a gun. I say we afford citizens extensive training and allow concealed gun possession for the safety of our society. Did you know that 4,000 have died in Iraq in four years, yet 17,000 are murdered every year in the United States and 44,000 die in car accidents a year. Gun Laws? I say we ban cars. Motorcycles only goddamnit. Let’s hit the news:

BC roared in to the lot fresh from a long ride.
He threw her over hard and did a 180 broadslide.
Hitting the kill switch he surveyed the scene.
Good-natured brothers and sisters; laughter and screams.
A poker-run gathered on one of their stops.
Everyone loose, no sign of the cops.
With flask of JD he climbed up on a table,
And looking around he surveyed the rabble.
Clearing his throat he bellowed a cheer,
Brothers and Sisters, lift high your beer,
While I toast to our lifestyle,
lived in high gear!
Here?s to the feel of the wind in your hair,
The smell of wood smoke while splitting night air.
Here?s to straight pipes, that boom and that crack.
To the feel of soft breasts pressed firm to your back.
To the soft squeaky feel of a new leather seat.
These are the things that make life complete.
It?s a bikers life for me, and I?ll have no other.
It?s the bond that I live for, Brother to Brother.
So smile that ol? wicked grin my friends.

Let?s blast on down to the gulf and The Reef.

BUELL ON PODIUM AT HOCKENHEIM 1000–New 1125R Makes German Racing Debut on Easter Weekend.
Cologne, Germany (March 25, 2008) ?The brand-new Buell 1125R delivered a stunning debut at the start of the German racing season on Easter Saturday, posting 2nd and 5th place finishes on Hockenheim?s demanding Grand Prix circuit.
Over the past 33 years, the 1000-km of Hockenheim has not only become the established prelude to the German motorcycle racing season, the traditional endurance race is also considered the most important German production-based racing event for motorcycles. This year, BMW and KTM each supplied selected teams with extensive factory support, both competing in Class 4 for four-stroke motorcycles of unlimited displacement with three cylinders or less that features the best and most popular riders. No fewer than four BMW HP2 Sports and five KTM RC 8s claimed chances to win in a grid of 32 motorbikes that also held numerous Ducatis and Aprilias.
But as it turned out, others were to provide the true sensation on March 22nd ? the only two competing Buell 1125R, entered into the race by the Buell dealers of Bonn and Hannover. Both bikes had only arrived in Germany three days before Easter, but despite minimal preparation, caused a stir right from the start with scorching lap times at low ambient temperatures on a dry track. In the sprint race over 14 laps, riders Axel Reimann and Ray Buchmann realized the 1125R?s full potential and left nearly the whole field behind, beaten only by the factory supported BMW under former Moto GP racer J?rgen Fuchs and professional racer Marcus Barth.
Volker Schirmer, manager of Buell Hannover, could not disguise his enthusiasm over his team?s second place finish. ?I am absolutely ecstatic. The 1125R is a quantum leap in output and performance. The 146hp twin-cylinder engine, developed by Rotax to Buell specifications, is a perfect match for the best chassis that Erik Buell has ever designed.?
After coming in fifth, riders Julius Ilmberger and Martin Kratzer were also delighted with the new Buell. ?With slightly harder tires, our chances would have been even better,? said Andreas Binner, boss of Buell Bonn. ?But even so, I am really happy ? my boys have done a fantastic job, and the 1125R is up for success.?

LEGEND OF THE RIDING BELL–Legend has it that Evil Road Spirits have been latching themselves on to motorcycles for as long as there have been bikes on the road. These Evil Road Spirits are responsible for mechanical problems and bad luck along the journey.
Legend goes on to say that by attaching a small bell onto your scoot, the Evil Road Spirits will become trapped inside the bell where the constant ringing drives them insane, making them lose their grip until they fall to the ground. (Ever wonder where potholes come from.)
Legend also has it that the bell carries twice as much power when purchased by a friend or loved one and given as a gift. Get yours or give a gift of the Riding Bell.

Harley-Davidson is inviting people worldwide to become a part of the Harley-Davidson Museum family through its new Membership program. Opening its doors in July 2008, the Harley-Davidson Museum is offering several membership levels, and those who join the Museum by June 1, 2008 will be invited to a pre-grand opening preview of the Museum, subject to capacity. All who have signed up in 2008 will forever be known as ?Founding Members.?
Museum members will receive exclusive benefits and privileges reserved for those who want access to the back roads of the Harley-Davidson experience. Special access to a members-only Web site and exclusive events throughout the year are just a few of many exciting benefits. In addition, members will enjoy perks not available to the general public, such as behind-the-scenes information on Museum exhibits, ?fast lane? admission to the Museum, a discount at the retail store and a members-only dog tag.
Just as riders have many route options, the Museum is offering five Membership levels to create the best ride for its new members. Memberships start as low as $40 annually, and each was created to meet the needs of customers, whether they are from Milwaukee or Milan. For example, ?Open Road,? an online membership, was designed specifically for the global audience base of Harley enthusiasts who may not be able to visit the Museum?s physical location frequently. With primarily Internet-based benefits, this membership level also offers one-time free admission and discounts to the Museum retail store.
Other Membership levels include Individual (?Serial #1?), Couple (?Two-up?), Family (?Wrecking Crew?) and Premier (?Hill Climber?). These levels include free, unlimited visits to the Museum. The ?Hill Climber? Membership also allows members to bring up to four extra guests to the Museum during any visit and includes a three-inch Living the Legend rivet for customization and installation on the Museum grounds.
?Membership will allow our visitors to get the most out of their Museum experience,? said Stacey Schiesl, Harley-Davidson Museum director. ?Through exclusive events and behind-the-scenes access, our members will be able to connect to the Museum and the history and culture of Harley-Davidson in a very meaningful way.?
For those who prefer a shorter road trip, general admission tickets are also available. General admission tickets for the general public are $16 for adults; $12 for students and seniors; $10 for children (ages 5-7 years) and children under five years of age will be admitted free with an accompanying adult. RICK FAIRLESS? STROKERS DALLAS AND KAT FINE ART RAISE FUNDS FOR TEXAS SCOTTISH RITE HOSPITAL FOR CHILDREN —Dallas, TX (March 24, 2008)- Custom motorcycles, original paintings, and Rock and Roll all came together on February 23 for the first annual ?KAT Fine Art Charity Benefit? hosted by Rick Fairless? Strokers Dallas. The night included an auction of 25 original Rock and Roll paintings donated by Texas artist, KAT, in support of Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children (TSRHC).
Auction bids, combined with donations that evening, totaled $18,763 for TSRHC. ?We are extremely pleased with the amount of money we raised for Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children,? said Fairless. ?I have been in business here for 13 years and I wanted to give back to the community in a big way, and Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children has always been my number one charity of choice.?
Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, located in Dallas, Texas, is one of the nation’s leading pediatric centers for the treatment of orthopedic conditions, certain related neurological disorders and learning disorders, such as dyslexia. All treatment at TSRHC is at no charge to patient families making the hospital rely on donations from individuals, foundations and corporations and proceeds from special events to fund their patient care.
?We are so fortunate to have friends in the community like Rick Fairless? Strokers Dallas,? said Stephanie Brigger, vice president of Development at TSRHC. ?The wonderful contribution that Strokers Dallas and Texas artist, KAT, have made to the hospital will allow thousands of Texas children to receive the highest quality orthopedic care at no charge to patient families.?
In addition to the 25 original paintings up for auction, KAT, known as The Art & Soul of Rock N? Roll, completed a painting of Johnny Cash at the event while the disc jockey played songs by the famous ?Man in Black.?
Strokers Dallas has supported TSRHC for the past 12 years. ?This is just the beginning,? says Fairless. ?We have big plans for the future and are hoping to bring in a lot more money for the patients at TSRHC!?

MAKE A RUCKUS!– Lookin’ for a way to dress up your office, garage, clubhouse or maybe the wife’s fridge? Hang 1, 2 3 or a whole pack of these awesome embossed metal signs and you’re going to have the coooolest wall candy going. Ruckus Rods is the source for these thought provoking pieces of art that bring back as many memories as they do smiles. Shown here “THE AMBUSH” takes you back to a day when ambushing a pack of bikers made law enforcement’s day.
Today half the riders would probably be law enforcement officers, but the image is as exciting now as it was confrontational back when. Matter of fact, “AMBUSH” is based on an actual event that went down out in Idlewild, California back in the late 50’s. Dennis Perrin, founder of Ruckus Rods was there and he wasn’t one of the cops!
These unique sign make great gifts for any motorcycle or automotive enthusiast and make for great conversation pieces. Call direct to 805-388-7310 and be sure to head over to
MRF REPORT ON PETERS INITIATIVE– the MRF along with many of our SMRO partners who have visited Washington DC to lobby this spring have taken action on this Peters initiative in person and several more SMRO’s have written to their legislators to let them know how they feel about this, at this time NO legislation has been proposed and at this time we are aware of no one looking to do so, and I can assure you we along with many of our SMRO partners are monitoring this closely and have in fact been very active on this front
The DNC, the RNC, FedDOT, and numerous federal legislators know where we stand on this issue and unless some thing changes tonight no movement on the requested raid of 2010 federal funds has occurred, can it still occur – sure it can and this is why we have our Lobbyist spend a great deal of his time on the Hill and in agency meetings so we can stand vigilant on things related to street motorcycles and motorcycling, and we stand ready to go back to the Hill and work against it if the current state changes and I am certain many SMRO’s will join us on the Hill as they recently have.
One of the most valuable tools we have in DC is that when the MRF goes to the Hill and presents a position it is through years of visits by the SMRO’s around the country with the MRF accompanying them that it is understood we are speaking for Sustaining Member SMRO’s back home, when our relationships with our federal legislators are sufficiently strong that often suffices, and where not there is work to be done both in DC and in our home states to get to a point where the relationship is in fact that strong.
Regular visits to DC with the MRF serves to strengthen that tie and then when an issue arises that is imminent the process has been established to quickly move through DC and get the job done as has been the longstanding history of the MRF and our SMRO partners
–Red
The MRF is still looking for the State Coordinator of ABATE of California Board to make an official request of the MRF and as importantly to forward a press release from ABATE of California requesting that SMRO’s support this effort that we can run in our MRF Reports and distribute on our MRF NEWS press release system. I have seen the piece titled “a Union of Motorcyclists.” but have yet to receive it from ABATE of California as a suggested document we should run with, the MRF will not pull something from the web or off one of the many e-zines and cover it.
Dave Dwyer, the MRF SMRO Representative to the Board, is on point for the MRF on this and he can be reached at ABATE of California as the Sustaining Member Organization of the MRF is who we need to make the official request and in something such as this requesting monies it should come from the sitting State Coordinator, this is a courtesy I believe all organization CEO’s would expect. I have seen them come in from numerous sources but none from the State Coordinator of ABATE of California that I am aware of, again if it has in fact been made please forward immediately. The MRF is not in a position to support this effort financially and to date with the numerous e-mails on this has the MRF received communications from any SMRO Sustaining members requesting we do so. In fact we have received communications that they would rather see the information put to the states, as it has been many times now, and let them decide on their own whether to send donations. But that they would not want to see monies they donated to the MRF go to this State cause directly from the MRF as this is not why they donated to the MRF as their federal representatives, again individual SMRO’s can certainly donate at will. This seems the most reasonable approach and in concert with what I believe you are asking of the MRF in the letter of January 24, 2008 I just received a copy of very recently. As far as supporting a helmet fight of course the MRF does so 100%. We will certainly consider doing so with regards to this one when we receive the official request to do so directly from ABATE of California with the Press Release/Position statement that we can then forward to our SMRO’s in the manners suggested above. –Kirk “Hardtail” Willard PAUGHCO LAUNCHED DEDICATED WHEEL DIVISION– PAUGHCO MC is a new division of Paughco Inc. created specifically to provide aftermarket wheel manufacturers with wheel blanks of the highest possible quality. This quality should be assured given the fact that the people behind the new enterprise have a combined total of more than eighty years of experience in the design, manufacture and sales of forged aluminum wheels and wheel blanks for motorcycles. Talking about the new division Joe Distefano, VP of Sales, said: “This is a new division of Paughco, Inc. Paughco has consistently provided top quality part, accessories, and service to the Harley-Davidson motorcycle aftermarket industry, and this wheel division will be no exception to that long tradition that Paughco has established since 1969. Wheels will be the only business of this new company, and not a sideline.” He continued, saying on the subject of availability: “This is the largest issue of all according to our research. When was the last time you called your current supplier and had a pre-polished wheel blank shipped within 24 hours? Answer – never. Paughco MC will maintain levels of inventory on all popular sizes in pre-polished blanks, ready to go at moments notice.” Paughco MC wheel blank company will offer a wide range of wheel sizes in both 2D and 3D styles, and ship orders within 48 hours of confirmation. The wheel blanks are forged in an 8,000 ton hydraulic press, utilizing the latest in wheel technology and die design. The blanks are forged conventionally to guarantee the correct material flow is obtained for the maximum in weight-to-strength ratios. Aircraft grade aluminum forgings are heat-treated to 6061-T6 and machined on brand new, dedicated CNC turning centers that are fixtured to only run motorcycle rims. The blanks are engineered to facilitate tire installation and removal. All Paughco MC wheel blanks are pre-polished to above industry standards, and are inspected throughout the process, with a final inspection prior to shipment. –PAUGHCO THE CONDEROSA DEVIL’S OWN DRAGSTER MAKES THE DEADLINE– Sure, it was on Sunday at noon, but I was THERE dang it! 48 hours without sleep. I brought some Armor-all to make everything look good in the show, but the show was full and everything looked cooler with Bakersfield bugs and dust all over it anyway. I finally got to meet Adam Sorokin and a few other guys I’ve been wanting to shake hands with for 8 years, and saw some BADASS cars. Again, to everyone who made sure the rail was loaded up and on it’s way, THANK YOU. Everything is on the back burner again until I pay off roughly 5k in rail bills, then I’ll find the money for re-certing my belts, a fire suit and fuel mask, a clean, minimal snout starter set-up and a few thousand bucks to run with. My sponsors so far are… ****Last but not least, My wife Alyssa and our 2 girls Audrey and Millie for doing without me for many many late nights.**** Again BIG thanks to all of you! –Tim Conder BIKER MAG THROWS OLD SCHOOL SHOW AT STURGIS BROKEN SPOKE– We are going with Wednesday for our show at the Spoke If you want to post that we are looking for any product sponsors for the awards that would great. America’s most renowned collection of rare vintage American Motorcycles will be relocating out of Western North Carolina to a currently undecided location in order to expand its horizons and broaden its impact. Having relocated to Western North Carolina in 2002, the museum has been an outstanding success, preserving the history of hundreds of America’s rarest two- and four-wheeled machines and presenting them in a fascinating, natural ambience for over 280,000 visitors in just five short years. Now, the museum looks to broaden its impact, through both a new location and a new museum initiative of “Taking Wheels around the World” “The new museum program, ‘Wheels Around the World” will allow the history of American motorcycles to be shared with a larger audience than only those able to visit the physical museum itself” says Dale Walksler, curator and founder of Wheels Through Time. “Through this new and exciting initiative, we will offer full service exhibit development, construction, and curatorial services to the countless organizations around the world who have an interest in displaying the history of the culture and sport that his influenced our society for over 100 years.” The museum plans to collaborate with fellow enthusiasts and their notable collections, among many others, to provide these institutions with the ability to create first class exhibits telling the stories of our countries treasured motoring past. “We are very excited to move ahead with this new program, and look forward to developing a more avid interest in the past, present and future of American Motorcycling across the country.” In pursuing these new initiatives, Wheels Through Time will be downsizing its collection with an auction slated for September 25th-27th, 2008. Approximately 150 of the rare machines from the collection will be offered in a sale hosted by RM Auctions. This international event will be held on the museum premises, and will give many the opportunity to own some of America’s rarest two-wheeled marvels and related memorabilia from the first 100 years of America’s motorcycling. The Wheels Through Time Scholarship Fund As part of the museum’s efforts to develop a larger interest in motorcycling across America, Wheels Through Time will be creating a scholarship fund, which will target ambitious, young students in need of support in their efforts to make an impact on the future of our American motorcycling heritage. The Wheels Through Time Scholarship Fund will provide assistance for education to those students who are dedicated to contributing to- and developing the motorcycle industry. Whether through trade schools, marketing courses, or motorcycle design and development education, the scholarship fund will provide qualified students with financial support to get the education they need to enter the industry. For more information, visit the museum’s website, located at SCOTT JACOBS THE WINO ARTIST–This is just an FYI for anyone who is still contemplating adding one of the only available Harley Wine Series canvases to their collection. We have a scarce quantity left of INVITATION ONLY and WELCOME TO THE CLUB (only 15 left) and they come to you with a very cool gift from Scott Jacobs as well as beautifully custom framed. If you did not receive either of these works of art and had them on hold or reserved, now is the time to confirm your order. Also stay tuned for special projects for the new HD Museum and Harley’s 105th celebration. –Ron Copple ABATE OF WISCONSIN DELIVERS 500 TO THE CAPITOL ON LOBBY DAY–ABATE of WI Inc 2008 legislative agenda includes amending parts of recently passed legislation that was intended to enhance penalties for right of way violations and make motorcycle awareness such as ABATEs Share the Road program mandatory for all violators. Since this law has been in effect for more than a year and we haven’t seen any changes, this is one of our top priorities. Also promoted in Madison were our suggestions for a state fix to the federal Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act (HIPAA) which currently allows insurance companies to discriminate against motorcyclists by denying health insurance coverage simply because they choose to ride a motorcycle. A great amount of interest was shown by our legislators on these issues. ABATE members and supporters also took this opportunity to re-introduce themselves to our legislators and let them know our stance on recent helmet recommendations by the NTSB and the overwhelming need for crash avoidance solutions not safer crashing. Information on our Share the Road motorcycle awareness program and our new anti-impaired riding program was also given to legislators to give examples of the tireless efforts of our organization and its members. Pictures of the event are available on our website www.abatewis.org and again thanks to all in attendance that made this a great event. BIKERNET IS ALIVE AND KICKING ONCE MORE—There’s good news around the Bikernet Headquarters. The lovely Nyla, who keeps me alive and whiskey in the cupboards delivered American Honey by Wild Turkey. It’s delicious and did you know the meaning of Honeymoon? After getting married you’re supposed to stay so busy in bed that you don’t eat but drink only whiskey with honey in it. Now I know why. This shit is amazing. I immediately contacted Wild Turkey and they responded: Thank you very much for contacting us regarding the new Wild Turkey American Honey. It has been a little over a year now that this product is out in the market. It replaced the Wild Turkey Liqueur with Honey. Given your inquiry we thought we would share some of the inside story on the new America Honey. When reviewing the Wild Turkey product line Master Distiller Jimmy Russell decided that the Honey Liqueur was due for an update. After some consideration, he determined that it was time to bring back his original formula from the early 1970’s. After changing the formula to ensure that the quality and flavor of Wild Turkey Bourbon play a more prominent role in the product taste profile, Mr. Russell is now convinced that the new American Honey allows his real Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey to truly work it’s “magic” with the hand selected American honey that is used in the production process. We are quite sure that you’ll find this original formula to be as pleasing and rewarding as you would expect. –Earline Regarding this turning 60 shit. I don’t want to belabor this milestone. I guess I feel officially old. On the other hand I want to thank all the readers and riders who have allowed me to create, build, and write for almost 40 years. I can’t tell you how honored I feel to reflect my thoughts, notions, experiences, and love affairs on paper and entertain at the same time. Thank you for the opportunity. On the other hand, I may be old, but I’m way back from the over-the-hill precipice. There’s considerable more whacky shit coming from these old bones. Hell, you’ll see two books published this year and we just kicked off Bikernet Metric. I ain’t slowin’ down. Let’s ride –Bandit

NEW ISSUE COMING FROM CYCLE SOURCE– Not sure if we told anyone yet but our next issue will be titled “Choppers Rule” and we’d like to do something a little different with a couple pages.
In addition to some killer rail chops we’d like to run some now and then pics of people with their choppers back in the day and updated photos of them and their bikes now. If you could help us with this we’d really appreciate it.

BIKERNET LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT STUDY–Here are the top 10 winners in the International Pun Contest: 1. A vulture boards an airplane, carrying two dead raccoons. The Stewardess looks at him and says, “I’m sorry, sir, only one carrion allowed per passenger.”
2. Two fish swim into a concrete wall. The one turns to the other and says, “Dam!”
3. Two Eskimos sitting in a kayak were chilly, so they lit a fire in the craft. Not surprisingly it sank, proving once again that you can’t have your kayak and heat it too.
4. Two hydrogen atoms meet. One says, “I’ve lost my electron.” The other says, “Are you sure?” The first replies, “Yes, I’m positive.”

THERE IS MORE TO A TRANSMISSION THAN JUST METAL– BAKER Drivetrain, known for tenaciously seeking any room for improvement in the drivetrain arena, has eagerly found an opportunity to keep enhancing drivetrain performance with a special, new lubricant by Spectro oils.
Above all others BAKER has discovered, approved, and endorsed the Spectro Heavy Duty Platinum 6- Speed Transmission Lubricant for their DD6 transmission. Perfect for the DD6’s characteristics, Spectro has kept 6-speeds, straight-cut, and helical-cut gears in mind when developing this true group 4 synthetic formula for V-Twin motorcycles. BAKER has found exciting results with this lubricant when used in conjunction with their leading transmission. The effect is more-dependable, smooth, quiet performance with minimal wear when exactly 23oz. of Spectro Heavy Duty Platinum is added to a BAKER DD6 transmission.
Given the oil’s particular properties, 23 ounces is just the right amount of Spectro Heavy Duty Platinum SAE 75w140 to completely keep the gearbox well lubricated while minimizing internal resistance and preventing pressure-caused leaks. To continue to keep their transmissions running at their fullest potential, BAKER not only endorses this select amount of Spectro Heavy Duty Platinum Transmission Lubricant, but they will now include 23 FL. OZ. of Spectro Heavy Duty platinum with their most comprehensive, easily-installed builder’s kit on the market: The DD6. The 23 oz bottle will eliminate guesswork on filling your new BAKER transmission. Distribution of this new bundle is due late spring/early summer 2008.
This combination of Spectro’s top-performing transmission lubricant with BAKER’s top-performing, most- proven, and widely-successful transmission provides the finest riding and ownership experience with a convenient, hassle-free, and positive installation experience.
DAYTONA BIKE WEEK DELIVERS FINANCIAL POINTERS– Financial and motorcycle experts look to Daytona for economic indicators By the Staff of Clutch and Chrome February 12th, 2008 Motorcycle industry experts as well as savvy financial analysts will be looking to Daytona to answer the question; When is a Bike Week more than a Bike Week?
Daytona Bike Week, which starts February 29th and runs through March 9th is the first major motorcycle event since manufacturers have released mixed sales numbers, most of which have left many uncertain about 2008.
Higher fuel prices were the reason given for the slight drop in attendance at Sturgis last August, affecting those attendees who towed (or trailered) their motorcycles to the event.
Since then, less motorcycles have been sold compared to the same period from the year before and financial experts have freely used the word recession when discussing the American economy. Many claim the country may already be in a recession while more optimistic experts put the odds at 50% of one happening.Organizers had the height of Daytona’s Bike Week attendance at 500,000, with that number falling to as low as 350,000 in recent years. The Florida rally has a friendly rivalry with Sturgis which claimed an estimated 507,000 in 2007, slightly down from the peak of 525,000 in 2005.
Because of the popularity of Daytona Bike Week as well as the economic timing leaves the rally as a major indicator to many financial trends from discretionary income to the state of the motorcycle industry in general.

OUR CRAZED WORLD WANTS TO TAG EVERYONE–You know Big Brother is here when everyone including M.A.D.D (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) and D.A.M.M. (Drunks Against Mad Mothers) are not for this Bill, but looks like it will be passed anyway.
While they are at it, how about green tags for pot smokers?
Bill proposes yellow plates to identify, shame DUI drivers.–ROGUE
SEATTLE, WA; Sen. Mike Carrell wants everyone on the road to know who’s been caught driving drunk.
He’s sponsoring a bill that would require people convicted of drunken driving to put fluorescent-yellow license plates on their cars for one year once their driving privileges have been restored.
“I’ve talked to the law-enforcement agencies and they think it would be an awfully good idea to have a way of visibly telling sheep from goats out on the road,” said Carrell, R-Lakewood. It also could help law-abiding drivers as a signal to give a wider berth to anyone behind the wheel of a car with bright-yellow plates, Carrell said.
Carrell believes the shame involved in having a fluorescent license plate might keep drivers from getting behind the wheel drunk. Said Carrell, “I believe shame will keep people from doing it. Looking at somebody who is driving around with a fluorescent yellow license plate should be a good reason for others to decide ‘I don’t want to have my neighbors knowing that I’m a drunk.'”
But not everyone agrees that such a public designation is the best way to go after drunken drivers.
“The first thing it reminded me of was reading ‘The Scarlet Letter’ in high school,” said Sen. Brian Weinstein, D-Mercer Island, referring to Nathaniel Hawthorne’s 1850 novel in which the heroine must wear the letter “A” on her chest as punishment for adultery.
“Obviously I am opposed to drunken drivers. I think everyone is,” Weinstein said. “But I don’t think this is going to solve anything, and it will have the unintended consequence of embarrassing a lot of innocent people.”
Meanwhile the largest anti-drunk-driving organization in the world, Mother’s Against Drunk Driving are against the fluorescent plates. They say that there’s no scientific proof that the plates discourage drunk driving and that they believe that shame is the wrong tactic to do so.
The bill, Senate Bill 6402, was approved last week by the Senate Judiciary Committee and now is before the Transportation Committee.
DUI offenders would be charged $10 per plate for cars. Motorcycles and mopeds would require just one plate, at a cost of $2.
If passed, the law would go into effect on January 1, 2009.
Ohio, Iowa, Minnesota and Oregon have similar requirements for DUI offenders. In Ohio, people convicted of drunken driving are issued yellow plates with crimson numbers. In Iowa, their plates contain the letter “Z.”
Offenders in Minnesota are issued plates that bear a unique series of numbers, and in Oregon, convicted drunken drivers display a special sticker on their license plates.

KART-QUAD-MOTORCYCLES DYNAMOMETERS–The Kart and Quad dynamometers represent the new challenge of SOFT-ENGINE production. These dynamometers can test the entire vehicle, and not only Kart (or Quad) engine. Generally, by this dyno is possible to test all kind of two-wheel-vehicles with little dimensions, like the microcars.
Soft-Engine Kart and Quad dynamometers exsists in two different versions, Inertial (Inertial tests) and Braker (braked tests)
The most complete dynamometer model is called “Braker KQM 150”, a multi-purpouse dynamometer to test Kart, Quads and Motorcycles: thanks to the eddy current brake, you can steady the engine at different rpm points, so you can make the engine mapping. Moreover, by our special combined test, it’s possible to make a realistic road-simulation, because while you accelerate the vehicle, the eddy current brake gives a suitable progressive load to engine to simulate the road conditions.

HARLEY-DAVIDSON’S WOMEN’S RIDE RAISES MORE THAN $67,000 FOR MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY– Hundreds of Women Riders Were Joined by Motor Company Founder’s Great-Granddaughter, Karen Davidson, and American Idol Star, Kimberley Locke.
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (March 10, 2008) – On Tuesday, hundreds of Harley-Davidson women riders joined together in Daytona Beach, Fla., along with Season two “American Idol” star Kimberley Locke for one of the largest Harley-Davidson women’s rides in history.
Originally, the Harley-Davidson Women’s Day Ride benefiting Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) was to be limited to 105 women, but after an incredible response from women riders asking to join the ride, Harley-Davidson decided to increase the size to accommodate the large demand.
Locke and hundreds of other female riders were joined by Karen Davidson, great-granddaughter of one of the Company’s founders, as well as the six Get Down to Daytona contest winners as they cruised through the streets of Daytona to thunderous applause from spectators.
“The success of the Women’s Day Ride reflects the growth of our female riders over the past two decades, from 4% in 1990 to 12% today. The event raised more than an incredible $67,000 in contributions,” said Davidson.
Women participating in the ride raised money for their local MDA office to help send children to MDA Summer Camps. Three women received special recognition as the top fundraisers for the event: Joanne Mold of Forest Hill, Md., ($3,055 raised), Dee Roberts of Bernville, Pa., ($2,717) and Lynne Cone of Houston ($2,715). Each received a 105th Anniversary Harley-Davidson women’s jacket, and had lunch with Karen Davidson, the six Get Down to Daytona contest winners and MDA ambassadors.
One week at MDA Summer Camp costs $800 per child, so women who raised that amount or more received a unique Harley-Davidson/MDA sterling silver and gold charm in recognition of their gold-level fundraising. Women who raised at least $400 received a sterling silver charm.

D.C. GUN BAN PROPONENTS IGNORE THE FACTSFor gun control proponents and opponents a lot is riding on a former security guard for the Supreme Court Annex. Next Tuesday, the Supreme Court will hear arguments over whether the District of Columbia’s ban on handguns and its requirement that any rifles or shotguns remain locked violates the plaintiff, Dick Heller’s, constitutional rights.
Whatever the court decides, no one expects them to end gun control any more than the First Amendment’s “congress shall make no laws” has prevented the passage of campaign finance regulations. The decision is likely to be limited to just whether a ban “infringed” on “the right of the people to keep and bear arms.”
If the D.C. ban is accepted by the court, it is hard to believe that any gun regulation will ever be struck down. If the court strikes it down, where the courts draw the line on what laws are considered “reasonable”regulations will take years to sort out.
Thus far the District of Columbia has spent a lot of time making a public policy case. Their argument in their brief to the court is pretty simple : “banning handguns saves lives.”
Yet, while it may seem obvious to many people that banning guns will save lives, that has not been D.C.’s experience.
The ban went into effect in early 1977, but since it started there is only one year (1985) when D.C.’s murder rate fell below what it was in 1976. But the murder rate also rose dramatically relative to other cities. In the 29 years we have data after the ban, D.C.’s murder rate ranked first or second among the largest 50 cities for 15 years. In another four years, it ranked fourth.
For Instance, D.C.’s murder rate fell 3.5 to 3 times more than Maryland and Virginia’s during the five years before the handgun ban went into effect in 1977, but rose 3.8 times more in the five years after it.
Was there something special about D.C. that kept the ban from working?Probably not, since bans have been causing crime to increase in other cities as well. D.C. cites the Chicago ban to support its own. Yet, before Chicago’s ban in 1982, its murder rate, which was falling from 27 to 22 per 100,000 in the five years, suddenly stopped falling and rose slightly to 23 per 100,000 in the five years afterwards.
Neither have bans worked in other countries. Gun crime in England and Wales increased 340 percent in the seven years since their 1998 ban.Ireland banned handguns and center fire rifles in 1972 and murder rates soared – the post-ban murder rate average has been 144 percent higher than pre-ban.
How could this be? D.C. officials say that the ban will disarm criminals. But who follows a ban and turns their guns in? Criminals who would be facing long prison sentences anyway if they were caught in a crime, or typically law-abiding citizens? By disarming normal people, a gun ban actually makes crime easier to commit.
Unfortunately, the Department of Justice has actually sided with D.C. in important parts of the case, and the court has granted Solicitor General Paul Clement 15 minutes to make his argument. While largely paying lip service to the Second Amendment being an “individual right,” the Department of Justice brief argues that an “unquestionable threat to public safety” from unregulated guns requires a lower standard must be adopted in defending it than is used to defend the rest of the Bill of Rights. But if they really believed that their evidence showed this, just as with the classic exception for the First Amendment of “falsely shouting fire in a theater,” it wouldn’t be necessary to treat the Second Amendment differently .
But what has not gotten much attention is that for the first time in U.S. history an administration has provided conflicting briefs to the Supreme Court. Vice President Dick Cheney has put forward his own brief arguing that the Second Amendment guarantees an individual right that is no different than freedom of speech.
The DOJ constitutional argument is similar to that of D.C. It argues that since the government bans machine guns, it should also be able to ban handguns. And they claim that D.C. residents still retain a right to self-defense because the city doesn’t ban locked shotguns and rifles.Locks, they claim , “can properly be interpreted” as not interfering with using guns for self-protection.
Factual errors underlie the rest of the argument – for in D.C., rifles and shotguns become illegal as soon as they are unlocked. That means the city can prosecute anyone who uses one in self-defense, even if it was locked before the incident. Is that a “reasonable” restriction on self-defense? Gunlock requirements are also associated with more deaths and more violent crime as they make defensive gun uses more difficult.Machine guns are also not banned .
It makes sense that the DOJ is backing the ban, given that it would lose regulatory power if it were struck down. As the DOJ lawyers note in the brief, striking down this ban could “cast doubt on the constitutionality of existing federal legislation.”
The Department of Justice and D.C. politicians can talk all they want about how necessary handgun bans are to ensure public safety and the “reasonableness” of the restrictions. But hopefully the Supreme Court will see past that. At some point, hard facts must matter. This is one point where public safety and individual rights coincide.

BIKERNET ALWAYS IN DOUBT–Charles, the Frenchman, was leaving his Parisian home for two weeks and confided in his friend, Pierre, “I always hate leaving my wife for so long like this. When I’m away, I just don’t know what she is doing. There’s always the doubt, always the doubt.”
Pierre said, “Charles, I’ll tell you what. Because we’re such close friends, I’ll keep an eye on her every evening that you’re gone.”
“You would do that for me, Pierre?” Charles said, relieved.”Oh thank you so very much. I know I really should trust my wife, but it’s just that there’s always the doubt, always the doubt.”
So Charles went off on his business trip and returned to Paris two weeks later. The two men met again.
“Charles, I’m afraid I have bad news for you,” Pierre said.”The very first night you were gone, I watched this man go to your house. Your wife opened the door naked and kissed and hugged him. He fondled her breasts. He rubbed her need I say more…? They then closed the door to go upstairs. Never daunted, I climbed up the tree outside your house and watched them in the bedroom.”
“And so…?” inquired Charles.
“Well, first they took off all his clothes.”
“What happened then?” asked Charles.”Then,” Pierre shook his head sorrowfully, “then they closed the curtains. I could see nothing. I could learn nothing more.”
Charles sighed a deep sigh. “So you see how it is, my friend? Always the doubt, always the doubt.”

RIDER’S EDGE, THE HARLEY-DAVIDSON ACADEMY OF MOTORCYCLING, MOVES INTO CALIFORNIA– Three Dealerships Set To Offer Rider Training Course.
MILWAUKEE (March 11, 2008) – In a continuing effort to teach the fundamentals of and instill a greater appreciation for motorcycle riding, Harley-Davidson is expanding its successful rider training program into California. Select California Harley-Davidson dealerships are now offering the Rider’s Edge New Rider Course premier motorcycle training program where students have opportunities to interact with dealership staff and draw from a network of experienced motorcyclists. Additional dealerships are preparing to launch their program within the month.
The Rider’s Edge New Rider Course California premier program is based on the proven curriculum of the Motorcycle Safety Foundation’s (MSF) Basic RiderCourseSM, while offering additions that provide longer classroom and range time.
“With Harley-Davidson, becoming a rider is first and foremost about motorcycle safety, but it’s also about a rite of passage; an experience you’ll never forget,” said Julie Chichlowski, director of Rider Services. “That’s exactly what we bring to our Rider’s Edge New Rider Course and what we’re excited to bring to the state of California. Rider’s Edge is about learning, discovering and bonding – everything a new riding experience should be.”
The first Harley-Davidson dealerships in California to offer the Rider’s Edge New Rider Course premier program are Orange County Harley-Davidson in Irvine and Antelope Valley Harley-Davidson in Lancaster. Harley-Davidson anticipates more California dealerships will add the Rider’s Edge New Rider Course program to their dealer services by year’s end. Beyond additional classroom activities over the MSF course, The Rider’s Edge New Rider Course California program includes a group riding component and a Riding Straight module that focuses on the impact of alcohol and riding where students can experience simulations using Fatal Vision Goggles.
According to Chichlowski, an essential component of the Harley-Davidson Rider’s Edge programs is the expert instructors. “Our Rider’s Edge Instructors are passionate about riding and passionate about teaching people the safety skills needed to do so.”
Classroom and skills training are held onsite at participating Harley-Davison dealers. The cost and course schedule vary by dealership, but the New Rider Course program typically can be completed in an extended weekend and outside of standard work hours. To be eligible, students must have a valid driver’s license, learners permit or certificate showing completion of the classroom portion of driver’s education. For those under 18, a waiver must be signed by a parent or guardian.
Upon successful completion of the course, graduates receive a California motorcycle license waiver, relinquishing the riding test given by the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and qualifying riders for insurance premium discounts with some motorcycle insurers.
“One distinct advantage of the Rider’s Edge New Rider Course is that feeling of being part of something bigger,” said Chichlowski. “Rider’s Edge teaches the skills necessary to ride a motorcycle but in an environment that is pure Harley-Davidson.”
Harley-Davidson established the Rider’s Edge New Rider Course in 2000. Since then, the program has grown to include 41 states and 176 dealerships. In 2007, Rider’s Edge celebrated the training of its 100,000th student. To find a dealership offering Rider’s Edge, visit Harley-Davidson.com and click on Find Rider’s Edge Locations in the Dealer Locater section.

He was 68. Buttera died March 2 of complications from brain cancer at Los Alamitos Medical Center, said his friend Kevin Bell.Don Prudhomme, a drag-racing legend who won several national events in a Buttera-built car, told The Times, “You couldn’t help but admire him. He was the best. Not only was he an innovator, he just did things that other chassis builders didn’t do.” Prudhomme recalled how “this guy from Wisconsin” showed up in California — the hotbed of racing — with a car he built for Mickey Thompson that was “the coolest thing I’d ever seen.” The engineering and craftsmanship were unmatched, said Prudhomme, who still owns one of the Buttera cars he drove — a 1972 Mattel Hot Wheels Plymouth Barracuda. “Everybody we raced wanted to see the Buttera car,” he said. “Guys lined up at his door to get one.” Buttera is credited with being the first to carve customized racing car parts out of aluminum blocks known as billets, an engineering leap that helped him create sleeker, lighter hot rods. A craze for billet parts took off in the 1980s and is still evident in racing today. The first billet part Buttera fabricated was a rearview mirror he made for a friend, influential hot rod designer Boyd Coddington, who died Feb. 27, four days before Buttera. Buttera said the most exciting thing he ever did was build a car that raced in 1982 at the Indianapolis 500. “The first time I saw my car come out of Turn Four at Indianapolis . . . I had goose bumps all over me. I couldn’t talk; I was crying,” Buttera told the Orange County Register in 1995. Dennis Firestone drove it to a 27th-place finish. Buttera, born in 1939 in Kenosha, Wis., began building dragsters there. A chance meeting with racing’s Thompson led to his 1968 move to California. More recently, Buttera did extensive development work for Harley-Davidson motorcycles. In 2004, he returned to building hot rods out of his Los Alamitos garage. “He had a gruff exterior but a very kind demeanor once you got to know him,” Fanshaw said. “You just had to get through that outer wall.” Buttera is survived by his son, Chris, daughter, Leigh, and two grandchildren. –Valerie Nelson, LA Times. THE BIKERNET SEX EDUCATION SEMINAR– There was this little boy about 12 years old walking down the sidewalk, dragging a flattened frog on a string behind him. He came up to the doorstep of a house of ill repute and knocked on the door. When the Madam answered it, she saw the little boy and asked what he wanted. He said, “I want to have sex with one of the women inside. I have the money to buy it, and I’m not leaving until I get it.” The Madam figured, why not, so she told him to come in. Once in, she told him to pick any of the girls he liked. He asked, “Do any of the girls have any diseases?” Of course the Madam said no. He said, “I heard all the men talking about having to get shots after making love with Amber. THAT’S the girl I want.” Since the little boy was so adamant and had the money to pay for it, the Madam told him to go to the first room on the right. He headed down the hall, dragging the squashed frog behind him. Ten minutes later he came back, still dragging the frog, paid the Madam, and headed out the door. The Madam stopped him and asked, “Why did you pick the only girl in the place with a disease?” He said, “Well, if you must know, tonight when I get home, my parents are going out to a restaurant to eat, leaving me at home with a baby-sitter. After they leave, my baby-sitter will have sex with me because she just happens to be very fond of cute little boys. She will then get the disease that I just caught. When Mom and Dad get back, Dad will take the baby-sitter home. On the way, he’ll jump the baby-sitter’s bones, and he’ll catch the disease. Then when Dad gets home from the baby-sitter’s, he and Mom will go to bed and have sex, and Mom will catch it. In the morning when Dad goes to work, the Milkman will deliver the milk, have a quickie with Mom and catch the disease, and HE’S the son-o f-a-bitch who ran over my FROG.” –from Chris T. Hacked,
Whatta week. I left the gate open and our two black mutts escaped. I’m turning 60–holy crap, and someone in communist China hacked Bikernet and shut us down for days… How was your week?
Here’s my Thursday update: We caught one of the dogs trying to cross the border into Mexico. We’re posting wanted posters for the other mutt, “Tank,” around SoCal. I’m still turning 60, but I’m looking for a cure to halt the process. Regarding the hacker, I wonder whether it’s that company who tried to sell me anti-hacking software, or the fact that I’m a fan of the Dali Lama and support Sherpas in Tibet. Hell I don’t know, but we’re trying to trace the source.
The feeling was far worse than having a car stolen. I look at Bikernet as a 10-year compilation of weekly magazines. It’s the home and the archive, to thousands of articles, 10 years of historic chrome reporting and momentous sexual annals. I didn’t want to even begin to think about losing it. It’s my life, your life, and our history.
I need to profusely thank our master web king, Jason for coming to our rescue. He watches out for two families, works for the man full time, and lords over several other motorcycle industry web sites. He’s a biker and understands when shit must be handled. Thanks brother!
With that we better hit the news:
BIKERNET FINDS A STURGIS HOME AT THE GLENCOE CAMP– “We should do a story on the development of Glencoe from only a few acres to over 920 acres and from one food facility to three and to three shower houses, Thunder Road bike shows, the Glencoe Amphitheater etc.” said Krista from Glencoe. “That’s when the price jumped from $125 or so, to $300. This year we have two wristbands though. One is $175, if you just want to camp and then you can pay additional for the all inclusive band.”
We will bring you camping tips, the entertainment line-up and our Bikernet.com Brouhaha bike show and party all day, Friday, at the Thunder Road. I’m bringing the famous 5-Ball trophies and Kevin Baas is making the 1st place mega trophies.
FLORIDA MOTORCYCLE SEIZURE BILL–Update re: HB137. House infrastructure committee met at 8:30 this morning to address HB137 the bill that provides for seizure of Motorcycles and revocation of Motorcycle Endorsement for up to 10 years for “certain” reckless driving offenses.
Despite calls and e-mails alerting people of the meeting and the importance of attending and voicing any concerns there were only three that showed to address the bill, one, the Motorcycle Industry Council representative who arrived late attempting to get clarification on certain issues and didn’t get to speak.
There was late notice as to the agenda of this meeting and confusion over amendments, clarifications and agreements that many in attendance were not aware of and had no chance to review.
Apparently to address questionable issues from the last committee hearing on the 137, there has been a redefinition of the term “wheelie” however if anyone knew what the final definition was it was not announced or discussed. The discriminatory issues that were addressed at the last meeting pertaining to the bill only addressing motorcycles was resolved by amending the bill to include “all vehicles.” The seizure of motorcycles/vehicles was addressed by moving the seizure option to the third offense.
One person who was present to speak on another issue, rose to voice his opposition to the bill and then waived his time.
The next person to speak was the lobbyist for ABATE of Florida who stated that his organization opposed the bill and made a pitch for stiffer penalties for those who violate motorcycle right of way causing injury and/or death to the motorcyclists.
I was called after the ABATE’s lobbyist and attempted to address the bill from a perspective relating to the state Supreme courts declaration last summer that they had significant concerns regarding the constitutionality of vehicle seizures as they are being done in Florida. Also mentioning Miami vs. Wellman (1-23-08) wherein the Third district court of Appeals with Supreme Court approval declared the city of Miami’s program of vehicle seizures unconstitutional on three points to include, denial of due process and “the city’s (Miami) preponderance of the evidence standard of guilt was too weak for a statute that deprives individuals of their personal property”. Putting the 12 million dollars Miami has earned from the sale of confiscated vehicles at risk.
I then when on to reiterate the ABATE lobbyists concerns about draconian measures to address this issue and the minimal penalties received by persons who kill and maim motorcyclists by violating their right of way. Also expressing the contention that this bill may in fact lead to more deaths as more motorcyclists may be inclined to run if they thought seizure of their bikes was imminent.
Neither the ABATE lobbyist nor I were asked any questions.

THE BAKER DD7: WAY MORE TO IT THAN AN EXTRA GEAR–HASLETT, MIThe Baker DD7, Direct Drive 7-Speed is being developed as a direct replacement of the Cruise Drive Harley-Davidson factory 6-speed to improve it in many ways besides just adding another gear.
Many complain that the factory 1st gear is too tall and these bikes feel bogged-down at the stoplight. The DD7 has a shorter 1st gear for improved get-up-and-go.
In transmission design low mainshaft weight is always desirable for smooth and quiet shifts. The factory mainshaft is a one-piece design that includes1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gears. The audible shift clunk in the factory 6-speed is caused by the heavy rotating weight and the resultant high inertia of the 1-piece forged mainshaft. The DD7 mainshaft is light weight and only includes the small 1st gear as an integral part to keep weight down. The shift clunk is absolutely minimized.
Shift smoothness in the factory 6-speed is a definite improvement over the 5-speed. The DD7 is a big improvement over the factory 6-speed because it incorporates a new linear roller ball detent as part of the supplied billet top cover. This linear roller ball detent is similar to the technology first used in Baker TorqueBox transmissions. In the Baker DD7, the shift drum is designed to help the rider find neutral every time, like with all other Baker transmissions.
The factory 6-speed has straight cut 1st and 5th gears. This yields gear noise in 1st and 5th.The Baker DD7 has a full set of helical gears for quiet operation in every gear.
Because of the shorter first gear and following gear ratios, testers report that the bike feels like motor work has been done. The shift quality is unheard of as well.
The Harley-Davidson factory 6-speed ratios are: 1st (3.34), 2nd (2.30), 3rd (1.71), 4th (1.41), 5th (1.18), 6th (1.00).
The Baker DD7 transmission will have the following ratios: 1st (3.76), 2nd (2.75), 3rd (2.06), 4th (1.55), 5th (1.27), 6th (1.10), 7th (1.00).
The BAKER DD7 is scheduled to be available late summer/early Fall 2008.

What’ the difference between Jane Fonda, Bill Clinton and George Bush?Jane Fonda actually went to Vietnam
Here’s my favorite:Greek and an Italian are debating.
Greek claims “We had Alexander the Great”
Italian replies “We had Julius Caesar and the Roman Empire”
Greek claims “We built the Acropolis”
Italian replies “We built the Coliseum”
Greek claims “We invented Sex!”
The Italian thought a moment and then replied ” Yes, but we introduced it to women!”
In the words of Bill Clinton “I feel your pain” about the site being down. The oilfield company I work for has one of the largest computer networks in the world. Computer and web protection is a HUGE deal and it is always threatened with compromise.
Take a ride down Long Beach, down a shot and grab a girl.Trust in God and the hacker bastard will get run over by a truck.

BOX OF ROSES FROM BIKERNET– Went to the Post Office yesterday. Had a little yellow slip telling me a package too large for my mailbox had to be picked up at the post office box(window).
The lady closed her box (heh-heh) just as I came up. Just my luck.
Went again today and she handed me a large brown box. Return address was Bikernet.
Looked like a box of roses. I could use some roses to spiffy up the casa.
My first guess as to the contents was roses from El Bandido. Nah, couldn?t be.
Got home and tore it open ta see what the fuck was sent. I hadn?t ordered anything so whatdafuck?
In it was a buncha fanfuckintastic stuff worth gold.
Shit! It was gold.
Better than gold to me anyway.
First, before I tell you what was in it let me tell ya it was worth $ 3,540.94.Not including the $8.04 postage Bikernet paid ta send it to ME!
In the box were posters. I am going to put these up in my bike garage.
If I was married (Listen up ladies! I am divorced), the wife would definitely blow me a shitstorm of grief to take them down that would certainly lead to divorce. This saved me a lotta aggravation and anger and also saved me about three grand ($3000.oo) for a lawyer to divorce the now ex Mrs. Gootie.
Also in the box was a magazine. I just had spinal injections yesterday for pain from something called spondiolisomething. Worth $3.99 clams and it gave me awesome reading while laying down recovering.
Also in the box were two books. Orwell and Biker Code. The reading time will be worth a helluvalotmore than the $26.95 price on the covers. Worth in actuality-Priceless! Since I am down from this spinal injection procedure crap for a few days, let?s place a value on it of about $500.oo clams.
In the box was a black Tee shirt. Don?t know how the Bandit crew knew my favorite color (black) (and size) but it did touch my heart and almost produced a tear.Value? Well I?d say about twenty bucks.
In the box were a few outfuckinstandin stickers. Value? I?d say about ten clams more or less.
Why the fuck am I wasting your time and mine on this??????????????????
Cuz I sincerely appreciate this gift box. It came at a time that I am down for a few days. Worried as hell about if I am gonna have to have spinal fusion surgery and if I will be able to work anymore. Doctor said that these spinal injections may help for some time and might help keep me from having the final spinal bone fusion for a couple of years or more if it works.
So I went for it and receiving this gift box came at a somewhat down time when I am dying to jam on my scoot but have to heal up for a few days before I even consider getting on my bike.
This stuff will help pass the time lying in bed a few days drinking beer and whiskey and eating pain killers like candy.
I guess this is just my way of saying thanks to Bandit and his crew.
Perfect timing amigos,
Now where?s the roses?
