SATURDAY DECEMBER 22, 2007DREW’S MOTORCYCLE SERVICEIS CLOSING ITS DOORS– It has been a GREAT 20 Year Ride!!!Yep, that is correct. After 20 years of serving Northwest Indiana’s Harley-Davidson motorcycle riding community my wife and I have decided it’s time to try something a bit different, starting with seeing a few of the back roads that I’ve been hearing so much about from all you riders out there. Heck, I may even get used to sleeping a bit later!! If this sounds like that dreaded word “retirement,” well all I can say is BRING IT ON!!

drew family

On a more serious note, I want to thank you for your continued support, patience, and patronage. You are why I got up each morning looking forward to the day, and why I continue to love motorcycles, motorcycle racing, and the motorcycle industry. Your stories of great rides and the people and places you have met and seen will stay with me always.

Now, before the rumor mill begins, please know that our decision is NOT brought on by ill health or ill will. Knock on wood, we are both still firing on all cylinders and hope to be doing so for a long time to come. It is simply that my wife has finally convinced me it?s time to kick-back while we are still healthy enough to enjoy it.

Thank you once again for the 20 wonderful years of support you have shown this business and my family. I hope we meet up with you on the road, at the racetrack, or at some motorcycling event.

5-BALL RACING PILOT VALERIE THOMPSON FEATURED ON HARLEY-DAVIDSON WEB SITE–Valerie grew up in Tacoma, Washington-a place of laid-back lifestyles. Shortly after acquiring her first motorcycle, she quickly developed an unquenchable appetite for forward motion. Valerie’s first drag-racing experience was on her 2000 Harley-Davidson Fat Boy in late 2005, and almost instantly, she was hooked. Valerie decided to pursue her passion for drag racing and took it to the next level on a Harley-Davidson V-Rod. Her determination, competitive nature and desire to learn from her motorcycle experiences pushed her through a steep learning curve.

Val

She spent her rookie season in the ultra-competitive All Harley Drag Racing Association (AHDRA), racing in the Super Gas and V-Rod Destroyer class. Amongst 89 mostly-male teams, she finished 6th and 14th nationally, 3rd place Western Division Super Gas, and 4th place Western Division V-Rod Destroyer, capturing a win, three runner-up positions, a third place, and four quarter finals. On September 6, 2006, at the famed Bonneville Salt Flats, Valerie became a World Land Speed Record Holder in the American Motorcycle Association with a top speed of 145.647 miles per hour, riding a 120-inch Harley-Davidson Panhead built by Keith R. Ball of Bikernet.com and 5-Ball Racing.

BILLY LANE EVIDENCE TAINTED–Lawyers for motorcycle builder Billy Lane contend law enforcement authorities’ failure to refrigerate blood samples may have sparked bacterial growth that led to a false high blood-alcohol level reading against their client.

Attorney Gregory Eisenmenger has filed motions calling for the evidence to be thrown out because Lane – charged with DUI manslaughter in connection with a Sept. 4, 2006, crash that left a motorcyclist dead – did not consent to a Florida Highway Patrol blood draw at the hospital following the accident.

“Lane declined and then they took blood samples over his objection,” Eisenmenger said. “We’re saying that’s improper.”

Police say Lane, 37, had a blood-alcohol level of 0.19 – more than twice the legal limit – when he crossed a double yellow line on State Road A1A to pass several vehicles and struck 56-year-old Sebastian Inlet park ranger Gerald Morelock’s Yamaha mini-motorcycle head-on with his Dodge Ram pickup.

He faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted at his trial, expected to begin in early 2008. A pretrial conference hearing is scheduled before Circuit Judge Meryl Allawas for 9 a.m. Oct. 10.

Eisenmenger said he expects to ask for a continuance that day in order to schedule a full day for his motions to be heard.

Prosecutor Tom Brown said today the state is “confident in our evidence.”

Eisenmenger said FHP did not follow normal protocol when it transported Lane’s blood samples by mail to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, leaving them unrefrigerated. The vials of blood then sat unrefrigerated in an FDLE locker until they were tested and mailed back.

The samples have not been refrigerated since then, Eisenmenger said.

“Normal protocol would be to take them from FHP immediately and drive them over,” he said, “(because if left unrefrigerated) they can deteriorate. And if there is some sort of contamination from outside air, you can get bacterial infection, which can essentially cause production of alcohol in the blood sample itself. Bacteria feed off the proteins and sugars in the blood and convert that to alcohol.”

Eisenmenger is also challenging the state’s testing protocols, which he said do not regulate the procedures and types of tests that may be used for blood alcohol analysis.

“There’s a complete absence of oversight . . . all of which goes back to the reliability of the testing process,” he said of the motion, which he said would be heard by the First District Court of Appeal in Tallahassee.

Eisenmenger is requesting that Allawas allow his expert witness, Largo toxicologist Lawrence Masten, to independently test the samples.

BIKERNET, LUCKY DEVIL, SUCKER PUNCH SALLY PROJECT BOBBER FOR IRAQI VETERAN–The bike is coming together. After getting the sheetmetal back from Custom Design Studios, we are frantically rushing around trying to get the final components together before we start final assembly.

Kent, The Devil here in Houston , has a couple of small projects to complete on the bike such as rear caliper mounting bracket and a seat bracket. Whatever we have left is looking to be completed in the next 24 hours.

Seat2

I plan on disassembly this Friday, October 5th, so we can prep the frame for paint. Monday we will begin final assembly and hope to have a running motorcycle by Friday, the 12th.

SPS is coming to town to drag the bike to Biktoberfest is Daytona, Florida, for the presentation to my brother on October 20th at 3pm, at the Hard Rock.

Seat3

This is the final push in my year-long crusade to say thanks to my veteran brother for his service to our country. His ETS date from the Army is Oct. 19, and he is packing all his shit into a Malibu, renting a U-Haul, and hauling ass to Daytona to recover his bike. At this time, he thinks he’s getting a roller with a custom paintjob. He has no idea he’s getting a full bike. Wish me luck.

REPORT ON BIKERNET SHIPMENTS–One Monday morning the UPS man is driving the neighborhood on his usualroute. As he approaches one of the homes he noticed that both cars werestill in the driveway. His wonder was cut short by Bob, the homeowner, coming out with a load of empty beer and liquor bottles.

“Wow, Bob, looks like you guys had one hell of a party last night,” theUPS man comments.

Bob, in obvious pain, replies, “Actually we had it Saturday night. This isthe first I have felt like moving since 4:00 am Sunday morning. We hadabout fifteen couples from around the neighborhood over for some weekendfun and it got a bit wild. Hell, we all got so drunk around midnight thatwe started playing ‘WHO AM I?'”

The UPS man thinks a moment and says, “How do you play ‘WHO AM I?'”

“Well, all the guys go in the bedroom and we come out one at a time with asheet covering us, with only our ‘privates’ showing through a hole in thesheet. Then the women try to guess who it is.”

The UPS man laughs and says, “Damn, I’m sorry I missed that.”

“Probably a good thing you did,” Bob responded. “Your name came up seventimes…”
