TBEAR BUILDING CHARITY BOBBER– I’m currently doing a 1968 Triumph TR6C Bobber to be sold to raise funds for our TBear Childrens Charity Fund. It would be cool as hell to have a new custom seat on her to help boost interest in the bike.

tbear tattoo

The tattoo is our logo and will also be on other parts of the bike as well. It will be a solo seat so whatever you have, we’ll make fit. I’m attaching a photo of me sporting the Tat and the original art work as well for your consideration.

Thanks and we’ll keep our fingers crossed.

IF ONLY BIKERS RAN THE COUNTRY–The wearing of ties to work by men would be frowned on, as would the wearing of bras and panties for women. The opening days of Sturgis and Daytona would be national holidays.

Third world dictators would be dealt with in the same manner as one would deal with a wino who just puked on his scoot.

All money from traffic violations would go into a huge keg fund.

Anyone who used a firearm to defend his home or property from vandals would have a street named after him.

Tattoos would be funded by the National Endowment for the Arts.

The money currently being spent on Mars probes and other useless junk would be used to fund research into finding the cure for the common hangover.

Sexual harassment laws would be more open to interpretation and would allow for the fact that most men are really basically just pigs.

Global warming would be encouraged since riding in the snow is such a pain in the ass.

BIKERNET DISCOVERS ANOTHER LEATHER SEAT DESIGNER– My husband told me to send these off to you. These are a few of my latest seats. Would be interested to know what you think of them, seeing as I’ve only been doing this for a year.

The first seat I did was for the custom bike Joe built. He had trouble finding someone to do a tooled seat, so I decided to give it a shot. The rest is history.

KAWASAKI ANNOUNCES 2007 MOTOCROSS RACING TEAMS– Kawasaki will blend future talent with experienced champions in a 2007 Supercross/Motocross lineup featuring four teams and 12 riders. James Stewart, one of the sport’s premier riders, will be joined in the Supercross and Motocross divisions by racing veteran Tim Ferry on the factory Kawasaki Racing Team. In addition to the factory squad, the Cernic’s Kawasaki Racing Team adds two more KX??450F pilots. In the Lites class, 2006 season powerhouse Team Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki will consist of three returning riders and one new addition, all on KX250Fs.

New to Kawasaki racing for 2007 and rounding out the Lites line up, is the four rider Team Motosport Kawasaki squad. With four KX450F and eight KX250F riders, Kawasaki expects to expand its presence and maintain its winning ways throughout the 2007 season.

“We’re happy to see so many Kawasaki motorcycles in the field for 2007. We expect our factory and Pro Circuit riders will set the standard for the deep pool of KX-mounted talent on our teams” said Kawasaki Racing Team Manager Mike Fisher, adding “Kawasaki is looking for our top riders to capitalize on their experience and leadership to help continue the this year’s impressive results into the 2007 season.”

Stewart, 20, from Haines City, Fla., fought a dramatic race-by-race battle with Ricky Carmichael and Chad Reed to earn his first Amp’d Mobile World Supercross GP Championship in 2006. Stewart faced stiff competition during his climb to success, but he prevailed by going undefeated in his heat races and collecting ten main event wins to earn the title. Stewart narrowly missed winning the Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Championship by two points during an epic battle with Carmichael which culminated at the series finale in Las Vegas last May. Stewart continued this momentum straight into the 2006 AMA Motocross series by earning his first AMA Motocross overall victory during the season’s opening round at Hangtown MX Park, breaking Carmichael’s 27 race outdoor motocross winning steak. Stewart’s Motocross season ultimately became a rollercoaster of challenges due to an early season crash which left the young Floridian out of the hunt for the championship.

Stewart rebounded to post nine top-five finishes and three overall victories at Hangtown, Washougal and the series finale at Glen Helen Raceway, eventually working his way up to fourth in the point standings. Stewart continued his winning ways in post season racing, helping Team USA win the 2006 Motocross of Nations, before a dominant trip to Las Vegas for the U.S. Open, where he finished 1-1 for the overall title.

“We are counting on Stewart to win multiple events and put a strong title run together in 2007,” said Fisher. “He proved his speed and skill in both Supercross and Motocross, and his experiences last season will help Stewart continue his success in 2007.”

MORE WORLD RECORDS WITH S&S? T-SERIES ENGINE!– LA CROSSE, WI (November 03, 2006) S&S Cycle’s Michael Scaletta, Senior Manager of Engineering and 3rd generation family member-owner of S&S, set two East Coast Timing Association land speed records at the Maxton Mile in North Carolina this past weekend.

Riding his personal bike, a 2004 Harley-Davidson? FXDI, with the new S&S T-Series engine, the bike netted two world speed record runs. The Proven Performance? S&S 121 cubic inch T-Series engine ripped off passes of 178.731 mph and 182.670 mph on Scaletta’s first wide open attempts. Both speeds were good for new records in the Altered-Pushrod Gas 2000cc and Altered-Pushrod Fuel 2000 classes.

In addition to the T-Series engine, other Proven Performance S&S products used on this record-setting bike include the S&S T-Series Oil Pump, 6-Speed S&S Transmission, High-Performance S&S Clutch, and the S&S Electronic Fuel Injection System. This is the same bike that Scaletta loaned to another S&S employee, Brian Perkins, to set land speed records at Bonneville in August of this year. Modifications to the T-124 engine include de-stroking to 4.55 to meet the 2000cc requirement and adding S&S B2 heads and 675 cams. The compression ratio is 13.8:1 and the displacement is 121.61 cubic inches, which is equal to 1993.23cc’s. Minimal modifications to the frame were made, including lengthening the swing arm by 2″ and installing a different front end with stiffer, stronger components to handle the extreme speeds. The consistency and Proven Performance of the S&S T-Series engine and related components continue to make world history on both salt and concrete surfaces with different riders.

Scaletta explained, “First of all I would like to personally thank Tim Culver of Parts Unlimited/DRAG Specialties. Without his help at the track I would have been hard pressed to get the results we did. The new S&S T-Series engine really shined out here. I’m big by motorcycle racing standards and the engine was making good power to pull me down the track.”

s&s guy on bike

“I’m very proud of my cousin Michael for setting these new world records on his first attempt,” said Brett Smith, president of S&S Cycle. “This has been a life-long dream of his and is well-deserved since he loaned this very same bike out to Brian Perkins for Bonneville records earlier this year. It is also a testament to the durability, quality, and performance of our new T-Series engine. Bringing Proven Performance world-records to the customer is what we’re all about. Congratulations to Michael for achieving his dream, Tim for his expert assistance, and the crew at S&S for developing and using the best products in the v-twin performance after-market!”

This meet at Maxton was the season’s finale. Competitors battled a strong cross-wind for most of the day, including a few course shut-downs and delays. So, the run-count was lower than most Saturday events. After rookie licensing passes at 125 mph, 150 mph and 175 mph, Scaletta was left with two all out passes. The results of those passes proved successful for Scaletta and his Proven Performance S&S technology.

ECTA (East Coast Timing Association) holds sanctioned land speed record events five times throughout the year. These events take place on a 1.9 mile concrete runway at the Maxton Airport in Laurinburg, North Carolina. The events are open to both cars and motorcycles. In June, 2006, Jeff Bailey, Powertrain Supervisor for S&S Cycle, set two new East Coast Timing Association speed records at Maxton on his S&S-powered Buell? motorcycle.

LEGENDARY GUNNERY SGT– The Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeant in the picture is Michael Burghard, part of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team that is supporting 2nd Brigade 28th Infantry Division (Pennsylvania Army National Guard) in Iraq.

The story: Leading the fight is Gunnery Sgt Michael Burghardt, known as “Iron Mike” or just “Gunny”. He is on his third tour in Iraq. He had become a legend in the bomb disposal world after winning the Bronze Star for disabling 64 IEDs and destroying 1,548 pieces of ordnance during his second tour. Then, on September 19, he got blown up. He had arrived at a chaotic scene after a bomb had killed four US soldiers. He chose not to wear the bulky bomb protection suit. “You can’t react to any sniper fire and you get tunnel-vision,” he explains. So, protected by just a helmet and standard-issue flak jacket, he began what bomb disposal officers term “the longest walk”, stepping gingerly into a 5 ft. deep and 8 ft. wide crater.

The earth shifted slightly and he saw a Senao base station with a wire leading from it. He cut the wire and used his 7 inch knife to probe the ground. “I found a piece of red detonating cord between my legs,” he says. “That’s when I knew I was screwed.”

Realizing he had been sucked into a trap, Sgt Burghardt, 35, yelled at everyone to stay back. At that moment, an insurgent, probably watching through binoculars, pressed a button on his mobile phone to detonate the secondary device below the sergeant’s feet. “A chill went up the back of my neck and then the bomb exploded,” he recalls. “As I was in the air I remember thinking, ‘I don’t believe they got me.’ I was just ticked off they were able to do it.

Then I was lying on the road, not able to feel anything from the waist down” His colleagues cut off his trousers to see how badly he was hurt. None could believe his legs were still there. “My dad’s a Vietnam vet who’s paralyzed from the waist down,” says Sgt Burghardt. “I was lying there thinking I didn’t want to be in a wheelchair next to my dad and for him to see me like that. They started to cut away my pants and I felt a real sharp pain and blood trickling down.

Then I wiggled my toes and I thought, ‘Good, I’m in business.’ “As a stretcher was brought over, adrenaline and anger kicked in.

“I decided to walk to the helicopter. I wasn’t going to let my team-mates see me being carried away on a stretcher.” He stood and gave the insurgents who had blown him up a one-fingered salute. “I flipped them one. It was like, ‘OK, I lost that round but I’ll be back next week’.”
