RIVAS WINS LAS VEGAS?TWO S&S-POWERED BIKES IN TOP THREE POSITIONS OF SERIES– LA CROSSE, WI (November 17, 2008) S&S Cycle (www.sscycle.com) is pleased to announce great news from the final round of NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle Racing in Las Vegas, Nevada. The news starts with Chris Rivas and the G2 Motorsports/Drag Specialties/S&S Cycle team winning the event?their third in five races! This win represents the fourth of the year for the team out of 17 events.

?After the Chicago race?basically the hometown track for S&S?the win made me feel like we were clicking? said Chris Rivas. ?It was an honor for me to be the rider associated with S&S during the 50th Anniversary year, and with George Smith as a mentor?and as a friend?I couldn?t have felt better. George has taught me so much about racing and life, he cares for people in a sport that is really cutthroat? concluded Rivas.

Going into this race the championship was up for grabs for three riders?Chris Rivas, Matt Smith and Eddie Krawiec. Both Rivas and Smith are independents riding S&S 160ci Billet Pro Stock powered bikes with the support of sponsors and Krawiec is part of the two rider, factory sponsored H-D organization. All four days of the event left everyone wondering who would take the number one plate going into the 2009 season. In the end it turned out to be Krawiec?who actually had not won a single race all season?leading Rivas by just five points and Smith by 20, making it as close as it could be and putting two S&S powered bikes in the top three spots.

The final race of the season came down to Rivas against Krawiec, with Rivas using a borrowed electrical system from Valerie Thompson. G2 crew Chief George Smith felt that the system on their bike was not working correctly and Thompson?s team stepped up to help, lending out their entire system and laptop. Rivas made the most of the loan by winning the race and event with the quickest and fastest run of the event, a 6.929 at 191.95mph to Krawiec?s 7.009 at 190.46.

?First, Chris was wired into the lights this weekend, he couldn?t have ridden better? said George Smith. ?Then, when Valerie Thompson and her team lent us their ignition system, we were sure we had what it took.? Smith went on to say, ?I really wanted to add another win and dedicate it to Fred Fox at Drag Specialties, without his support for the last three years we wouldn?t have had this chance. At the end of the last run, we had the win and a great end to a terrific season.?

?I would like to congratulate the S&S powered teams for another successful racing season. The performance of the G2/Drag Specialties Team was very impressive during the later half of the season to win the events that they did,? said Michael Scaletta, S&S Business Development Director.

It was a terrific season of racing, with the championship up for grabs all year long, perhaps the closest season yet in NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle Racing. Be sure to get the 2009 schedule from www.NHRA.com soon and mark your calendar to see some of the best racing action in the world.

HERE’S WHAT KRIS REVIS SAID ABOUT VALERIE THOMPSON RECENTLY–

After having clinched his first NHRA POWERade world championship a round earlier, Krawiec’s next goal was not to become just the second driver in NHRA history to win a championship without winning a national event (Rob Bruins won the 1979 Top Fuel crown in just such a fashion), but Rivas had other ideas, bashing out low e.t. of the meet at 6.929 in the Pro Stock Motorcycle final to defeat Krawiec’s 7.00 and earn his fourth win of the season aboard the Drag Specialties Buell. The victory lifted Rivas into second place in the points, just five markers behind Krawiec.

“We’re still not really sure where that 6.92 came from. I knew that we had left together, and by the time I plugged 3rd gear, he had completely dropped back; I thought he had broken,” said Rivas, who won three of the five Pro Stock Motorcycle events in the Countdown playoffs. “We hit the rev limiter at the finish line, so I knew it either had been a really good run or that it had broken the transmission. We owe a great gratitude to Valerie Thompson, who let us take her fuel-injection system and wiring harness off of her Buell and let us use her laptop to tune it.

FRED LANGE SELLING 1928 HILLCLIMBER–“My price on this bike is $65K,” said Fred. My number is 805 937-4972. He builds incredible board track racing replicas and restorations. He wants us to use one of his OHV engines to build a Bonneville bike around. We’ve discussed the project with Billy Lane, since we have way too many projects that need to be finished before we go there. Billy could build it and we’ll cover the process and meet in Bonneville. We’ll see.

MILLION MILE MOTORCYCLISTS STOPS AT BIKERNET HEADQUARTERS– Dave Zien reaches 992,769 miles on November 17, 2008: just over 7,000 miles to go.

Former Wisconsin State Senator Dave Zien is still pounding out the miles in continued Iron Butt rides. After a short setback due to some mechanical problems, he was back on the road again after thanking Territorial Harley-Davidson of Yuma, Arizona for all of their help. Since then, he rode two more 50 CC circuits, San Diego, California to Jacksonville, Florida, and back again. Then yesterday, November 17th, he was up in North Hollywood. He back tracked to Long Beach to meet with Bikernet guru and former Easyriders Editor, Keith “Bandit” Ball.

dave kb

He still had enough energy to plan on riding up to Copperopolis, California to visit Charlie Brechtel and his Biker Inner Circle studios. My cousin, Dennis Sanfilippo, was going to put him up at his lake house after wining and dining him. I haven’t heard from Dave, Charlie or Dennis yet to confirm he made it up there or that he’s even awake yet. But, when he got to North Hollywood, he had 992,769 miles on his 1991 FXRT.

He plans on riding back to Milwaukee by Thursday (another 2,200 miles). At that point he will announce his plans to put the bike up for the winter, relatively speaking because we know he’ll continue to ride (just not those insane distances, averaging 1,000 per day) and bring it out again for the beginning of the 2009 riding season, possibly early or mid-April. That’s when he’ll finally turn the odometer over to the 1 million miles mark.

We’re looking at doing that at the Harley-Davidson Museum in Milwaukee, with lots of fan fare and a nice landing party. Three Sturgis Motorcycle Hall of Fame members will ride in that landing day parade; Zien, John “Rogue” Herlihy, photo journalist and Old School Freedom Fighter, and Tony “Pan” Sanfelipo, Founder of ABATE of Wisconsin and BOLT.

Senator Zien is dedicating the achievement of reaching his goal to Attorney Mike Hupy for all of his assistance and guidance and for everything he does for the motorcycle community. He is also dedicating this record to Accident Scene Management, Inc, and Vicki Sanfelipo, for her untiring efforts to educate the bikers of America and save lives.

Visit www.hupy.com and look for Dave Zien’s mileage tracker for updates on his mileage. Click on the photo and jump to the story about his ride records and his Ride Journal. That’s where you’ll find the details of the landing party location and date. Keep visiting, even through the winter, because Dave will continue to ride and send in his stories. You can also visit www.accidentscene.net to read about his recent adventures in Virginia when he came upon a serious motor vehicle crash involving trucks and a semi. His training from Accident Scene Management kicked in immediately and that is why he wants to dedicate a portion of his ride to ASMI.

CUSTOM CHROME ANNOUNCES PERMANENT REVTECH PRICE REDUCTIONS–In what the company is emphasizing “is not a sale, but a permanent price reduction”, Custom Chrome has announced lower dealer pricing across the board on the RevTech engines and driveline products produced exclusively for them by parent company DAE-IL Corporation.

The lower pricing program was announced on November 7th and was “effective immediately” on its full range of RevTech engines and transmissions, including its Euro 3 and EPA certified products.

The firm’s statement said that “this reduction is designed to achieve maximum value for the product line without compromising its margin value to the selling dealer.”Steve Veltri, Vice President of Sales and Marketing, said “this is a worldwide effort and will be put into effect by both Custom Chrome and Custom Chrome Europe.”

“This is not an increase in complete engine inventory alone. We have undertaken a substantial investment to ensure transmissions, belt drives, replacement and service items are available to support these products in the dealerships and on the street,” said Mohr.
