Our next Girl of Bikernet coming next week, Merceder, from Scooter in Phoenix.

Hey,

Whatta great day for a ride. I feel good about life and our industry. It’s smokin’ as you’ll see roaming through the Sunday Post News. Doherty Machine and Envy Cycles/Street Walker Exhaust Systems just signed up as Bikernet Sponsors. We have our calloused fingers crossed that Hooker Headers will come on board next week. It’s wise since we’re raising our rates at the first of the year. We have to, readership has grown 287 Percent in three years, thanks to you.

Also check-out our new Bonneville department for 2007. The first chapter was launched the other day, and we’re moving. Seems the readers of Bikernet are making the next Bub’s Bonneville meet the first annual Bikernet gathering. I’m investigating permits necessary to build Bandit’s Cantina and Brothel on the salt.

Let’s hit the news:

PHANTOM II FILTER FROM DOHERTY MACHINE– Doherty Machine has just released an updated version of their remarkable PHANTOM OIL FILTER. Presented with the industry’s “High Tech Product of the Year Award” at Indy, the PHANTOM II is applicable for a wider variety of applications and provides superior oil cleansing, cooling and Stealth mode installation.

PHANTOM II is designed for horseshoe style tanks, but adapts easily to fit a variety of applications where at least 2 _ inches of flat mounting surface is available. The unit itself consists of a bolt-in CNC machined or weld-in, mounting flange, both are included, and screw-in filtration assembly. The cap has been completely redesigned to place the barbed oil return line fitting at the side, not on top of the cap, for additional unobstructed seat clearance. All bolt-in sealing surfaces are O-ringed and the unit makes use of OEM style filter elements. Installation requires simple drilling of filter access hole and flange mounting bolt locations where applicable.

The PHANTOM II FILTER is precision machined from billet aluminum and steel with aircraft grade hardware. This unique filtration system allows you to maintain a clean appearance while protecting your engine’s vitals.

The PHANTOM II OIL FILTER kit retails for $229.95 and is available directly from Doherty Machine and through Drag Specialties and other major M/C parts distributors. Visit www.dohertymachine.com or call 800-956-9409.

The biggest names in the motorcycle community seem to end up at these shows, so plan on being there to assure your chance to mingle with the who’s-who of the motorcycle industry.

BIKERNET MEDICAL DEPARTMENT STUDY: CURE FOR BLACK EYE APPROVED–For years the conventional wisdom has been that the best treatment for a black eye is to put a piece of raw meat on it to reduce the swelling and aid in the healing process. New studies have shown that application of warm, soft, and tender meat is the most effective in helping the eyes to recover from the damage.

So, the next time you get a black eye, here’s how to treat it…..

58crocker

This is an original Crocker that sold last week for $275,000. Now that’s a legacy. If my memory serves me correctly, there were just 100 Crockers made between ’36 and ’40 when production was shut down due to the war effort.

CROCKER MOTORCYCLES ARE BACK AND SUPPORTED BY ACCURATE ENGINEERING– The 1936 Crocker enjoyed the distinction of being the first production motorcycle in the U.S.A. to use an overhead valve engine, beating Harley-Davidson to the punch by 4 to 6 months before their launch of the 1936 “Knuckle Head”. From its first appearance on the road in Los Angeles and for many years to come, the Crocker was the fastest production bike in the world.

Crocker Motorcycle will produce the first 100 original Big Tank and Small Tank motorcycles as a Signature Series prior to regular production to commemorate the approximate 100 bikes originally produced in Al Crocker’s factory at 1346 Venice Blvd. in downtown Los Angeles. The new Crocker Big Tank and Small Tank models will be visually identical to the original but will be updated internally.

Over the last several years Crocker Motorcycle Company Inc. has created a name for itself in the antique motorcycle world by producing quality components for this highly prized American classic. No other make has stirred the lust for two wheels since Al Crocker first created this Hemihead hot rod in 1936. Parts production restarted in 1997 and in 2002 the commitment to produce complete Crocker’s came to life. By reverse engineering both the Big Tank and Small Tank models, Crocker has created more than 1300 Cad-Cam drawings and almost 100 precision castings for their new Vintage motorcycle.

Even the original foundry markings can be found on these newly produced parts. Crocker Motorcycle Company Inc. has signed a contract with top engine builder Accurate Engineering from Dothan, Alabama to produce the Original Crocker Motorcycle engine for the continued production of the coveted classic Big Tank and Small Tank Crocker Motorcycle, which was first produced in 1936.

Although the Crocker will be sold in kit form at this time, each engine will come completed and bench tested by Accurate Engineering. Crocker Motorcycle is now taking orders on their first production series and expects to begin delivery in Spring 2007. Crocker Motorcycle Company is accepting a 20% deposit on these premium Motorcycles. A framed numbered, signed plaque and Crocker

Manheim AND BIG TWIN WEST TO HOST FIRST-ever CUSTOM BIKE AUCTION DURING TRADE SHOW– ATLANTA – Manheim and Big Twin West will partner to host the first-ever custom bike auction on December 3, at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nev. The auction will be available through Manheim Simulcast, which allows dealers to participate in the live auction online.

The auction is being held in conjunction with the Big Twin Customs Invitational competition sponsored by Big Twin West, an annual aftermarket trade event for Big Twin motorcycle retailers.

“This event allows Big Twin West to expand the scope of its audience and helps Manheim reach a new customer base,” said Karen Braddy, director of heavy truck, highline and specialty sales for Manheim.

Each bike has a celebrity twist and each bike was hand built by one of the master builders in the U.S. and Canada. The Amazing Shrunker FXR was designed and built for the smaller rider by Keith R. Ball, the Editor of Easyriders for 20 years and the creator of the largest custom motorcycle entertainment web site, Bikernet.com. He has written three motorcycle outlaw novels, was featured on the 50th Episode of Monster Garage with Jesse James and set an AMA world speed record last year at Bub’s International Speed Trials in Bonneville. His bike is pictured above.

The custom bikes will run in a mini-lane set up at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center from 1 to 4 p.m. PST, with a bike preview from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. PST. Manheim Simulcast will broadcast a live feed of the sale through stationary and handheld cameras for enhanced viewing by dealers online.

Manheim has been involved in Big Twin West since the creation of Manheim Specialty Auctions two years ago. Manheim Specialty serves the needs of dealers looking for vehicles other than the traditional automobile. AN OPEN LETTER FROM THE CHOPPER KING-QUIET PLEASE–As you would expect many builders and their fans have contacted me about appearing on Biker Build Off. I apologize for not answering your phone calls and E mails sooner, but the last few months have been crazy. We’ve had to pull out all stops to get six new shows into production. And I’ve been on the road continuously.

The six new shows in production will move from Discovery to The Learning Channel (Discovery owns TLC) The first of the six will air Monday, February 12th, then the rest will air on five Mondays after). Featured builders will be: Paul Cox & Keino vs. Trevelen.. Michael Barragan vs. Chica….Gard Hollinger vs. Jason Hart…Brian Fuller vs. Greg Westbury….Dawn Narakas vs. Scott Webster…Andrew Williams vs. James Compton.

Many have asked, “how do I get on the show?” We select builders based on a number of factors. Number one are the bikes he or she makes. We tend to select builders who are on the cutting edge of the industry…taking it in a new or unusual direction. The number two factor is will that builder be dynamic on television? (Note: We’re making a television show with the object of getting as many people as possible to watch our show because if we don’t get the numbers, the Network will cancel). The sad fact is: a builder may be an absolute genius but if he or she doesn’t come across on TV, we won’t select him or her.

Other factors are: geographical location of shop, has that builder been featured on BBO before? Would a certain builder be a good match up with another builder? (We trying very hard to have builders who build similar style bikes compete.) Another factor is: will a builder take the show in a radically new direction ie. Drag bikes, dirt bikes, Sport bikes. So you can see that there are many ballots which we throw into the basket, shake them around, eventually coming up with what we think will make an interesting show. And I have to say that the strong ratings which BBO gets indicate that we’re doing pretty good.

Though the line up for the six new shows is locked, The Learning Channel has an option to order six more. However we won’t know whether TLC plans to exercise its option till February or March of 07.

I appreciate your continuing interest in the show and please keep sending me pictures of your latest creations.

DAVID MANN FOUNDATION IS GROWING– The grant writing is starting to go well. However our problem is getting some instant operating capital. To help that we are doing to two promotions besides the Chopperfest in December. In Ventura. The first is a poker run and tournament that will be hosted by Hooters Casino Hotel in Las Vegas Feb. 10-& 11. The tickets are $100.00 with a room and $65.00 without. The top prize will be $10,000.00.

The second promotion is a golf tournament, concert and bike build off on the Memorial Day weekend (May 26,27,28 2007) again hosted by Hooters. At that one we will be raffling off the original bike from the Ghost Rider painting, by James Bondo. The raffle tickets are $100.00 and sponsorship tickets will be a framed set of six tickets with a commemorative David Mann $50.00 chip (negotiable) and you will get 6 tickets for $500.00. The first prize for the biker build-off will be $25,000.00. We will also have at least 4 or 5 other bikes to give away (Big Dog for sure). Celebrity tickets will be $1000.00.

The concert will feature at least 3 very high level country singers (we are trying to get Sara Evans, Leann Rimes and Carrie Underwood it will be called “Country Divas). We are hoping to get Jay Leno as the host. We will also having a silent auction with a company who specializes in doing that sort of thing and they will be bringing material that will appeal to our audience.

So you see how busy I’m getting. Anyways its keeping me busy.

I will send you everything as soon as all of the details have been completed and the printing is started.

COMPLEX CREDIT CARD SCAM FOOLS CHARLOTTE AREA STORES– SALISBURY, N.C. — Authorities are looking for a man they believe is running a complex credit card scam that has cost several businesses in the Charlotte area thousands of dollars.

Bryan Beaver, general manager of Extreme Motorcycles in Rowan County, was victimized, and he says it’s easy to fall prey. “It was just an elaborate scheme. He was just so smooth; never suspected anything,” he said.

Detectives say Fred Cowart tried to buy goods there with a fraudulent credit card. When it was denied, they say he asked the cashier to call the toll free number on the back of the card.

Authorities say the operator who picked up was apparently part of the scam. She approved the credit request and asked the cashier to type several numbers into the credit card scanner. The numbers knocked the system offline, and then printed a receipt that said the credit was approved.

“It spit the approval out the whole time the machine was offline. You never know until Monday morning that your money is really not there,” Beaver said.

The motorcycle shop is out close to $30,000, and no one saw it coming. “Really there weren’t any flags. We’re really careful, especially when it comes to credit card purchases,” Beaver said.

The general manager has made some changes at the business now — one of them, when a sale is declined that ends the transaction.

Authorities say Cowart changes appearances and identities. According to detectives, he was driving a silver 2003 Chevy pickup when he pulled away with the stolen property on a Featherlite trailer.

If you have seen Cowart, call the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office at (704) 216-8700.
