Hey,
I hope all the vets had a terrific time this weekend. You’ve earned it. I did three tours in Nam and a reader, MotherGoose is helping me through the VA Health quagmire. Every week, hell every day I try to learn something. We can’t afford a copy editor, just yet, so I try to study English usage and punctuation and copy edit myself.
The other day I met with a women copy editor and she turned me onto a Webster’s Pocket Grammar guide. It’s cool, but pointed out that some of my editing was wrong. I’m so pissed off. I wrote to a girl, I worked with at ER, and bitched, “Is it a.m. or A.M? The Webster guides said, “A.M.” Then I picked up a Associated Press article that said, “a.m.” Fuck!
My old connection gave me this advice, “Pick a way of doing it and stick with it, for consistency.” Consistently wrong? The research continues over three aspects of punctuation. Someday, I swear, I’ll get it right. Let’s hit the news:

Nestled among four national parks, Knoxville offers memorable roads and breathtaking scenery. This “Gateway to the Smokies” will welcome H.O.G. members from across the country and the world as they experience all the natural beauty the Knoxville area has to offer, including Great Smoky Mountains National Park, located 35 miles southeast of the city.
“We can’t wait to welcome H.O.G. riders from around the country to Knoxville for the 2007 National H.O.G. Rally,” said Gloria Ray, President and CEO of the Knoxville Tourism and Sports Corporation. “It’s a great opportunity to showcase our city of Knoxville and all that we have to offer.”
Multi-platinum and award-winning country duo Montgomery Gentry will kick-start CLUB H.O.G. Down Home by performing on the Harley Stage at Chilhowee Park on Friday, August 24. Their recently released album, Some People Change, reflects their world of blue-collar anthems and the importance of family, religion and patriotism. Eddie Montgomery and Troy Gentry recently participated in the 2006 USO (United Service Organizations) tour, where they visited and performed for troops in Kuwait, Iraq and Germany.

“Once you experience all the incredible riding and unsurpassed beauty this area has to offer, you’ll come back again and again,” said David Brown, General Manager of Knoxville Harley-Davidson. “We’re looking forward to welcoming all National H.O.G. members to the great city of Knoxville for some premiere down home Southern hospitality.”
Although most of the scheduled events are for registered H.O.G. member event attendees only, there will be plenty of fun and southern hospitality to go around. The local community is invited to attend Smoky Mountain Shindig: Where the H.O.G. meets the Dragon on Thursday, August 23, at Smoky Mountain Harley-Davidson & Buell in Maryville.
“We are thrilled that Harley-Davidson chose Knoxville for the 2007 National H.O.G. Rally,” said Scott Maddux, owner and general manager of Smoky Mountain Harley-Davidson & Buell. “East Tennessee offers the best motorcycle riding east of the Rockies. Down Home is also the appropriate theme because this region’s down home southern hospitality is second to none.”
The public is also invited to visit the newly re-designed Harley-Davidson Traveling Museum, and take part in free Harley-Davidson and Buell demo rides at the rally site Friday and Saturday. On Saturday morning viewers can cheer for the motorcycles during the Chapter Parade of Flags. That night, the community is invited to attend two dealership events: Knox Rocks Down Home H.O.G. Fest hosted by Knoxville Harley-Davidson & Buell as well as Down Home at the Shed hosted by Smoky Mountain Harley-Davidson & Buell in Maryville.
“Steeped in Americana and smoky mountain lore, Knoxville and the Great Smoky Mountains offer some of the best motorcycle riding in the country,” said Joe Dowd, manager of the H.O.G. SEVERAL FEATURE BIKES LINED UP FOR BIKERNET– I would be honored to have my bike in the bike barn, so I am sending you a pic. I built the bike myself, out of my garage. Everything was done on a budget, so I hand made most parts and did most of it with the help of friends, instead of running out and paying someone else to do it for me. It took me about a year to get it done, but it was worth every minute.
Let me know if you are interested and I’ll send you some more pics and some details about the bike.

HOT LOVE RIDE AUCTION YESTERDAY– LOS ANGELES (AFP) – The baseball glove and motorbike from “The Great Escape” aren’t on sale but more than 200 items belonging to late “King of Cool” Steve McQueen will go under the hammer here Saturday.
Dozens of vintage motorbikes, sunglasses and other memorabilia belonging to the late Hollywood legend are being put up for auction by his widow Barbara Minty-McQueen in a sale that has excited buyers around the world.
“I’ve owned them for more than 25 years, since 1980, and it’s time to clean,” Minty-McQueen told AFP.
“It hurts my feelings, but I’ve been able to enjoy them for a long time, and it will be nice for other people to have a piece of Steve, look at them and remember him everyday.”
Among the lots up for for auction are a pair of foldable 1960s sunglasses worn by McQueen in “The Thomas Crown Affair” and a vintage Harley-Davidson sweater, mounted in a frame, expected to fetch 3,000-5,000 dollars.
Other curios on sale include McQueen’s old credit cards, an inscribed Von Dutch pen-knife and two Wurlitzer vintage jukeboxes.
“He loved everything, he was a collector of anything,” Minty-McQueen said. “Most people own one wurlitzer — he had two.”
Minty McQueen said pride of the place in the sale was a 1958 pick-up truck that McQueen — a keen motorsports enthusiast — had reconditioned.
Mark Osborne, vice-president of Bonhams and Butterfields who are managing the sale, said the auction would be the last chance for McQueen’s fans to grab a slice of history.
Here’s our first report the day after the auction, from Paul Garson. You don’t need talent. You need a pair of Steve McQueen’s sunglasses “possibly worn in film The Thomas Crown Affair.”
Today, I was at the Peterson Museum and Bonham auction, when bidding reached $60,000 for them. Then add another $10,000 for auction fees. $70,200 total. Yes, sunglasses.
Beyond bizarre? Wait. Then they auctioned off the mint Rolls Royce couple used in the movie. $70,2000 total.
As they say…go figure.
Hey, can I have a pair of your sunglasses? Just in case.
This just in: A 1930s Crocker went for $267,000.

You can catch them at –Holly DAD PLEADS GUILTY TO BOY’S MOTORCYCLE FALL– An Erie father, who kidnapped his son in 2003 and spawned a nationwide manhunt, pleaded guilty Monday in Denver District Court to felony child abuse. He faces being sent back to prison for five to 16 years on that charge. Jacub Dentler, 26, was arrested by Denver police Easter Day on suspicion of putting his 4-year-old son, Jayton, on the back of his motorcycle and doing wheelies until the boy fell off and fractured his skull. Police also reported Jayton was sucking on a piece of candy at the time and inhaled it when he fell. In September 2003, Dentler assaulted his girlfriend, Veness Martinez. She was able to get away by driving through the garage door of her Lafayette home. Dentler then took Jayton, who was then 14 months old, and drove to Iowa, which triggered an Amber Alert. Dentler was arrested the following day in Iowa after dropping the boy off with relatives. Dentler was sentenced to five years in prison for the Boulder County portion of that case and served 2 1/2 years before he was released on parole. He is expected to appear in Boulder County District Court Nov. 17 on charges he violated parole because of his April arrest, and he could face up to 18 years in prison. Dentler is expected to be sentenced in the Denver case Dec. 18. –By Boulder Daily Camera WE THE PEOPLE WILL NOT BE CHIPPED– The We the People will not be Chipped – No Verichip Inside Movement, is based on the irrefutable fact, that we believe in mankind’s inalienable human rights that are absolute and can not be debased, nor perverted. BIKERNET GOVERNMENT INVESTIGATION– The Pentagon recently discovered it had too many generals and offered an early retirement bonus. They promised any general who retired straight away his full annual benefits plus $10,000 for every inch measured in a straight line between any two points on the general’s body, with the general getting to select any pair or points he wished. The first man, and Air Force general, accepted. He asked the pension man to measure from the top of his head to the tip of his toes. Six feet. He walked out with a check of $720,000. The second man, an Army general, asked them to measure from the tip of his outstretched hands to his toes. Eight feet. He walked out with a check for $960,000. When the third general, a grizzled old Marine, was asked where to measure, he told the pension man, “From the tip of my penis to the bottom of my testicles. The pension man suggested that perhaps the Marine general might like to reconsider, pointing out the nice checks the previous two generals had received. The Marine insisted, and the pension expert said that would be fine but that he’d better get the medical officer to do the measuring. The medical officer placed the tape on the tip of the general’s penis and began to work back. “My God!” he said. “Where are your testicles?” The general replied, “In Vietnam!” NEXT BCCOM MEETING IS ON WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 29th– After taking our meetings on the road this summer, we will be back at the Justice Institute by popular demand. MOTORCYCLE AIDING CHILDREN OF FALLEN SOLDIERS IS STOLEN IN SOUTH CAROLINA– North Richland Hills, Texas (November 10, 2006) A custom motorcycle designed by Tim Edmondson to benefit the Special Operations Warrior Foundation, an organization that helps children of fallen Military Special Operations soldiers, was stolen on Monday at a Days Inn in Florence, S.C. The bike, which has the name Warfighter and is valued at around $90,000, has been touring military events and honorary ceremonies and was to be raffled off at the end of 2007 with all proceeds benefiting the foundation. The motorcycle was commissioned by Tom Maddox, president of MAR-VEL International Inc., a 60-year old company in South Jersey that provides equipment to the military. Maddox worked with Tim Edmondson of Edmondson Custom Built (ECB) to design a one-of-a-kind motorcycle. The bike was also sponsored by a number of companies that supply MAR-VEL. The Warfighter was stolen with its trailer through the night while MAR-VEL employees stopped in for a rest after driving a long show circuit. “We’re asking anyone in the motorcycle community with leads or information to please call authorities, said Maddox. The Warfighter is such a special bike and was going to help a lot of families and give them some much needed hope and joy. The Warfighter features an extremely intricate design with paint graphics that showcase a Special Forces crew in action, custom wheels, and other custom military-themed parts. The place was hopping with music and loud conversation and every once in a while the lights would turn off. Each time the lights would go out, the place would erupt into cheers. However, when the revelers saw the nun, the room went dead silent. She walked up to the bartender and asked, “May I please use the restroom?” The bartender replied, “Of course, sister, but I should warn you that there is a statue of a naked man in there wearing only a fig leaf.” “Well, in that case I’ll just look the other way,” said the nun. So the bartender showed the nun to the back of the restaurant. After a few minutes, she came back out, and the whole place stopped just long enough to give the nun a loud round of applause. Baffled by the reaction, she went to the bartender and said, “Sir, I don’t understand. Why did they applaud for me just because I went to the restroom?” “Well, now they know you’re one of us,” said the bartender, “Would you like a drink?” “But, I still don’t understand,” said the puzzled nun. “You see,” laughed the bartender, “every time the fig leaf on the statue is lifted up, the lights go out. Now, how about that drink?” THAT’S IT FOR THIS LOVE RIDE SUNDAY–Pour me a margarita. Let’s ride. The girls went out last night and ended up on the Queen Mary for a Burlesque show.
