Hey,
It’s Love Ride Weekend in LA and the kick off to California Bike Week initiated by Oliver of Glendale H-D, the master behind the historic Love Ride, once the largest motorcycle charity event in the country. The host is usually Jay Leno.
There’s parties every night, rides to various congested locations in LA and Oliver centered the Bike Week around motorcycle competitions at the Pomona Fairgrounds, including Super Moto, drag racing and flat track races. Too bad they don’t have room for a 5-mile straight-away and land speed record attempts. I’ll mention that to Oliver.

So we attended a Hamster party at Urban’s house in Beverly Hills last night. Urban has one of the finest individual motorcycle collections on the planet, and he’s building it and mods to his home and shop constantly. Maybe we’ll do a feature on it in the near future.
Let’s hit the news. Rumor has it that a bunch of riders and Hamsters are avoiding the actually Love Ride, which was shifted from Lake Castaic to Pomona, to some chagrin. They’re headed toward the Bikernet Interplanetary Ivory Ghetto Tower Headquarters. We ordered the local harbor rats to sweep the grounds. Let’s hit the news:

BIKERNET CHRISTMAS GRAB BAG GIVE-AWAY–We’re going to the shipping store to buy 50 boxes. Then we’ll fill them with stocking stuffers from stickers, to books, T-shirts and posters. Each one will be packed with surprises for Bikernet Readers at Christmas. So go into our FREE contest area and give us any excuse to send you a package.

NEW CUSTOM BIKE ASSOCIATION (CBA) TO DEBUT AT 2008 V-TWIN TRADE SHOW IN CINCINNATI– Since every town now has at least four custom bike shops, how do you know which ones really know custom bikes? You don’t, unless you know your way around a bike or have a good buddy that does. That is, until now.
The Custom Bike Association (CBA), which boasts members like master builder Eddie Trotta of Thunder Cycle Design, Matt Hotch of Matt Hotch Designs, Paul Cox of Indian Larry Legacies and Aaron Greene of Paramount Custom Cycle, has been formed to give customers a way to tell which shops have accredited custom motorcycle builders and mechanics on staff. The CBA is working to standardize custom bike building specifications, as well as set education standards in a number of bike building disciplines. The CBA is also partnering with builders and experienced judges, like our own Chris Maida, to standardized bike show judging.
Custom bike builders, shop owners, and mechanics are encouraged to stop by the CBA booth (#277) at the V-Twin Trade Show in Cincinnati to see what the CBA is all about. Sign up at the booth and talk with on-hand representatives about the extensive features and benefits of a membership.

MOTORCYCLE RIDERS FOUNDATION HONORS WISCONSIN CHAIRMAN’S EFFORTS FOR MOTORCYCLISTS– The Motorcycle Riders Foundation is extremely pleased to announce that United States Representative David Obey of Wisconsin, Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations has written a letter to the Chairman of the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) citing many of the concerns that we have in regard to their recommendations relative to motorcycle safety.
Congressman Obey is one of the most influential members of congress, chairing the committee which oversees government spending. It is uncommon for a committee chairman to take such action.
Mr. Obey was preceded in writing the NTSB by United States Representative Randy Kuhl of New York. Congressman Kuhl was direct in personally asking the NTSB to reconsider their recommendations. Mr. Kuhl is a longtime supporter of motorcyclists’ rights and we are delighted that he has taken this step.
Many of our SMRO partners are making a trip to Washington to express concern over this issue. Vice President of Government Relations Jeff Hennie has had 37 appointments in the first three days of this week. At the risk of stating the obvious the MRF is working this issue very hard.
We have announced the details of our press conference to the Washington press corp. in a press advisory. That information is included below.

GMA DOWN–We received news that Bill Gardner shut GMA down. In his letter he explained that when he started building aftermarket brakes systems for Harley’s there were only two other competitors in the industry. “Now there’s 17,” Bill said in his letter.
Bill built fined billet products for over two decades and I’m sure he’s in good shape for retirement. We were proud to run GMA brakes on our Assalt Weapan this year and wish him and his family all the best.

NEW RIDLEY STYLES AND FEATURES FOR ’08– (Okla. City, Okla.-10/19/07) Ridley Motorcycle Company introduced its new line of fully automatic transmission models earlier this week on the company’s website, www.ridleymotorcycle.com. The new ‘eight line includes eight distinct models to meet the varying tastes of its broad customer base. For the new year, Ridley has added models to improve its product price range from an entry model price of $13,995 to a new three wheel model that has a base price of $25,995. In all, eight models will be offered by Ridley in 2008 which have already begun shipping to its dealer network of over sixty locations.
“Our focus is on delivering a motorcycle that fits the needs of the new market. It seems that so many companies are trying to revamp their line by adding a sixth gear. We’re taking the gears completely out of the equation and letting riders get back to actually riding”, said Clay Ridley about the effort his company has directed towards their new product line. Several new unique features are creating interest among Ridley Riders on the company’s riders forum, one of which is a parking brake. “We take comments from the owners of our motorcycles very, very seriously. Ridley Riders have asked for a parking brake for added security”, commented Jay Ridley, Vice President for the company.
Added to the long list of improvements for the new year model is the new “2 Year Plus” factory warranty which offers twenty-five months of factory backed warranty. According to Ridley, this new warranty exceeds coverage provided by most other domestic manufacturer’s. One more reason Ridley believes 2008 will be the company’s best selling year model.
With the holiday season fast approaching, Ridley Motorcycle felt the introduction of the new models would have more impact if held back until the middle of November. For Ridley, the holiday season means big business. Several of Ridley’s dealers have reported higher sales in December than in May. The company attributed this to their market which is nearly divided in half among men and women.

LET’S PAUSE FOR A BANDIT’S CANTINA RELIGIOUS LOVE RIDE MOMENT– Moses is coming down the hill with the Ten Commandments on two tablets.
He says to the crowd surrounding him, “I have good news and bad news. First, the good news: There were actually three tablets and 15 commandments, but it was sort of hard to carry all three and I dropped one, so now there are only ten.”
Cheers erupt from the crowd until someone asks, “What’s the bad news?”
Moses answers, “Adultery’s still on the list.”

REPORT FROM THE CALIFORNIA BIKE WEEK GROUNDS– No shit? L A County Fair Grounds. AHDRA & AMA Flat Track. I could swear there was a 5-Ball Racing Team Prostock drag bike. They said the female rider held a world record at Bonneville. Had to leave early, still had some work to get done.
We had a great time Head`n back tomorrow with my sons. And Sunday is the Love Ride. They turned it into a 3 day event it called California Bikefest. We rode L R 2 thru 7 and I thought it was too many people back then. So I will stay away Sunday.

IRISH RICH RETURNS TO BIKERNET–
Stu also shot like 75 pictures of my new build in Frisco, he was going to tie everything together in a few articles for you. But, give him a call, and see where he’s at on everything.
I picked up another build from going out to Frisco for the Grand Natnl. Bike Show in Oct., but the trip out was pretty expensive.
I wanted to bring my new build out for the Dave Mann Show in Dec., but that’s not gonna happen now. Fuck. I really wanted to make that one, no extra $$$ now. I will however, be entering the Grand National Roadster Show in Pomona the end of Jan. They’re paying tow money one way, so that helps out. I attached a couple pics for you. I shortened up the rear frame section 2 _ inches, added the stress bars, and raised the tranny 1 inch. Pictures don’t do it justice, you can’t see the details.

EXPERTS BLAME INEXPERIENCE FOR BIKING DEATHS– The number of deadly motorcycle accidents in Virginia is up 87 percent this year. So far, 116 bikers have died in 2007.– By Andy Jenks, NBC12 News.
We can’t publish the rest of the article due to copyrights, but it spills the same shit on a crime against motorcyclists. Of course the article spoke of older inexperiences riders, helmets and more training.
–from the Timman
Can’t see the fuckin’ problem??? It’s a free 1/4 page ad for H.D. Come in and buy one of our $400 helmets, a few hundred on other gear, and while your here sign up to spend another $300 on a refresher course.
Could be inattentive drivers might cause an increase. Can you tell me about another vehicle that requires “special training?” A 16 yr. old can drive off in a SUV the size of a fuckin’ bus without any requirements. I can name some others but I don’t see the point.
Here in Florida it’s now mandatory that you take a safety course before you can get a motorcycle endorsement, and that’s discrimination, and just plain wrong.

JP SENDS BONNEVILLE CONGRATS– Hello Keith — Now that all the Bonneville craziness had died down, please throw another “CONGRATULATIONS” on the pile. You sure did a helluva job getting the bike together and getting it down The Salt.
You have A LOT to be proud of, and sure showed a ton of character, resourcefulness, and balls in overcoming adversity to see the 2007 effort to completion. I’m glad I was able to help, even if it ended up being only in a relatively minor role. Even though I wasn’t able to join you in Wendover this year, I’m confident you know how sincere I was, going all the way back to our design conversations early in the year, and I will continue to be. I hope we’re able to work together again on future projects.
Once again, sincere congrats. You owe it to yourself to take a moment and look back at how things came together over the course of the year. What a wild wide, huh?
You did great, man.
Best Regards,
–Joel

Tell Congress to protect medical benefits for members of the armed forces. But millions of military patients and their families are already having trouble finding physicians. Since TRICARE, the military insurance plan for active and retired military members and their families, is tied to Medicare, future doctor payment cuts will cause even greater harm to their health care quality. They’ve sacrificed for our country and have done their duty to protect all Americans. Unless Congress acts now, future doctor payment cuts will deprive them of the health care they need and deserve. This Veterans’ Day, CAN INSURANCE PROFITS AND FREEDOM CO-EXIST?– I’m sure I’m behind the times on this “find” but as I was searching for grants for ASMI today I came upon this group who is certainly working against us and has much clout. I see that the AMA has a couple articles about this groups efforts against sports bikes but it appears they are also actively (see recent articles and position statements) petitioning for mandatory helmet use and are rating states for compliance. Reminds be of a direction that Keith Ball’s book “Orwell” refers to as our country continues to try to save us from ourselves by pressuring for universal federal laws and when that fails petitioning the states to pass universal recommendations. –Vicki Sanfelipo, RN/EMT Vicki developed an accident scene management course that’s taught to motorcycle groups all over the country. It’s EMT level training for the public. Call her to have her or a trained instructor teach your group, club or organization how to save lives.–Renegade BRASS BASS CHOPPER DONATED VIA EBAY FOR WOUNDED WARRIORS– On October 20, 2007, the “Company Tattoo bike” went under the eBay auction gavel with a portion of the proceeds going to the Wounded Warrior Project. Tony Defeo, a Hot Rod enthusiast and custom motorcycle purveyor, won the auction and determined that he needed the old skool chopper along with the tattoo sled, so he purchased both. ? Along with his new motorcycles, Tony receives the following: We are excited to support the “Wounded Warrior Project”. As a Gulf War vet, I am impressed with their ability to raise public awareness and provide assistance to severely injured servicemen and women coming back from Iraq and Afghanistan. We have a lot of momentum heading into the winter. Exciting things are happening. Stay tuned for future updates. We are extremely grateful for all the support and high levels of interest in our bikes. The mission of the Wounded Warrior Project is to raise public awareness and enlist the public’s aid for the needs of severely injured service men and women, to help severely injured servicemembers to aid and assist each other, and to provide unique, direct programs and services to meet their needs. –Dar Holdsworth INDEPENDENT EUROPEAN PRESS AGENCY REACHES OUT TO BIKERNET– We are an independent press agency that supplies media around the globe with a wide variety of stories and photos. They both saw a trophy-class buck meandering towards them. As the one hunter raised his gun to shoot, a funeral procession came slowly by. The hunter lowered his gun, took off his hat, and stood with his head bowed until the procession was past. Of course by then, the deer was long gone. The other hunter exclaimed “Wow! That was the most sportsmanlike act I’ve ever seen! You allowed this trophy buck to escape while showing such compassion and kindness toward someone’s dearly departed. You are a great humanitarian and a shining example to sportsmen throughout the world!” The first hunter nodded and said, “Well, we were married for 42 years.” –from Rev CarlR WORLD’S WEIRDEST MOTORCYCLES– Just because someone is an automobile fanatic does not mean they would also be blessed with a fertile imagination. While many a bizarre mechanical ideas often remain confined to the brain, there are many enthusiasts who go to any lengths to try and breathe life into their imagination. Practicality be damned. These contraptions, which the builders like to term as motorcycles and cars, are built just for the heck of it and production is never ever thought about. Creative satisfaction, you might say. We bring you some of the weirdest motorcycles ever built. Some of these are actually rideable and are headed for production. LUCKY DEVIL PROJECT BIKE, THE LAST ONE BEFORE SIN WU’S BOBBER– Here is a shot of the fat boy project I am working on. As soon as I get this off my frame table we will get cracking on Sin Wu’s little bar hopper. I think she needs a name! –Kent 360 BRAKE IN TROUBLE–Knockout motorcycles recently experienced a 360-Brake failure. Cyril Huze has a series or wild correspondence from the company. And they are in the process of correcting their design. If you have a 360 Brake on your bike, you need to contact the company immediately and don’t ride the bike. We will keep you posted as new developments surface. If you want to read all the dirt, check Cyril Huze’ Blog. NEWEST RIDE FROM GUILTY CUSTOMS, “ERRANT”– Mr. Webster defines “errant” as “traveling or given to traveling (as on a mission of chivalry) or straying outside the proper paths or bounds”. When you see this creation of Cj Hanlon and Mike Drum at Guilty Customs (www.guiltycustoms.com), you know right away that the name fits-both the traveling and the straying outside the bounds part. (I’ll have to withhold judgment on the chivalry part though). We first spotted this bike at a local Bike Night. You know the place, because you’ve probably been to one just like it in your town. A local establishment where you go once a week to hang out with your riding buddies. Conversations tend toward discussions of the pros and cons of all the latest chromed, billeted, metal flake painted, accessorized waxed up two wheelers sitting in the parking lot. However, “Errant” clearly stood out in that crowd. Watching CJ ride in on this 43 degree raked Santee rigid you’ll find Guilty’s dual powder coated Chopper Shox’s on a custom seat pan which makes this rigid ride like a Cadillac! Starting up front the whole bike harkens back to a true old school build with a new vintage Durfee Girder front-end teamed up with 80 spoke 90/90 21″ RideWright chrome wheels mounted on Metzlers. At the rear is a 18″ on 200 Metzler with a HHI Sproter keeping the whole ride on the pavement. That throaty sound you hear spewing out of the chrome WWC straight pipes all starts within the stock S&S 93″ Indian with S&S Super E carb teamed with a mild velocity stack and a Midwest 6 speed and modified BLD primary providing the means of leaving others behind when needed. Getting everything started is a well hidden Spyke starter sending it’s juice through stainless steel braded Namz plug wires. And the part of the bike that keeps everything “cool” is the vintage Mooneyes Oil Bag setting out front on the frame rail teamed up again with a set of Namz braided stainless steel hoses. Todd’s Cycles provided the drag bars and grips, and ISR’s newest motocross clutch (cable not hydraulic mind you) gets things moving. And that Streamline Design internal throttle keeps the whole front clean and simple. Guilty Customs mantra is building bikes that are “affordable, reliable and comfortable.” –by Blaine Guilty Customs, LLC IT’S LOVE RIDE PARTY TIME–LA isn’t the grandest place for a motorcycle event. You’ve got to escape town, through some of the most treacherous traffic in the country, to find comfortable rides. On the other hand, the LA County Fair Grounds offer some of the best competitive track facilities in the state. Maybe LA Bike Week will emerge to be packed with the best motorcycling competitive sport spirit, combined with the notion of giving. Let’s Ride –Bandit
