cutie lead

Hey, It’s another crazy day at the Cantina. We’re moving rooms, making shit, tearing out old wires, waiting for help from friends and hopin’ for a cold beer. It’s actually threatening to rain. I made a belt buckle yesterday and polished my XR tanks for the powder people. Hell, I thought this would be a kicked-back weekend. It’s been non-stop. Well, that’s my code. Wouldn’t have it any other way. Let’s hit it:

Agent Zebra Attacks And Accolades

There’s a Republic of Literature blog. I posted a response to another hit by a Lanny. Would you run the address on Bikernet? It’ll give folks a nice chance to take shots or drop accolades, but most important, to create a platform for them to blow steam.

Gun Laws, What’s Next?

Remember the old bitter remark regarding gun control, “What next, banning knives?” The answer, yes.

Doctors call for kitchen knife ban

Friday, May 27, 2005 Posted: 9:47 AM EDT (1347 GMT) Doctors say pointed knives owe more to tradition than culinary necessity.

Three emergency-room doctors called Friday for long, pointed kitchen knives to be banned in a bid to reduce the number of stabbings in Britain.

Writing in the British Medical Journal, three doctors from London’s West Middlesex University Hospital said that at least half of stabbing cases involved kitchen knives. Long, pointed knives serve no useful purpose in kitchens, they argued.

“Many assaults are impulsive, often triggered by alcohol or misuse of other drugs, and the long pointed kitchen knife is an easily available potentially lethal weapon, particularly in the domestic setting,” wrote Emma Hern, Will Glazebrook and Mike Beckett in an editorial for the journal.

S&S CYCLE ANNOUNCES NEW HIGH PERFORMANCE CLUTCH
S&S Cycle announces plans to start production of their new high performance clutch.

Holding true to their motto, Proven Performance, this new clutch is designed to take abuse and provide top quality performance. With 10 steel plates and 11 friction plates the new S&S clutch presents a lot of available friction area. Just as important, however, is the fact that the band of friction material is narrower than the rings in most other performance clutches – this actually improves the gripping power of the clutch and increases the diameter of the effective friction centerline. The increased centerline diameter results in a corresponding increase in centerline circumference and gripping area. Another advantage of increasing the friction centerline diameter is that it places the centerline farther from the center of the clutch, providing more leverage to turn the transmission.

With more friction area, and a larger centerline diameter, the S&S clutch is able to handle over 150 horsepower with clutch lever effort that is slightly less than that of a stock Harley-Davidson clutch. For competition applications, a stronger pressure plate spring is available that will increase the power handling capacity or over 200 horsepower. Recent testing of this clutch has been rigorous, including 950 drag strip passes over a two day period on four different big inch S&S test bikes.

The S&S high performance clutch fits 1991-2005 models, yet it features an early style, 66-tooth ring gear. The larger, stronger teeth on this gear are better able to stand up to the force required to turn over a big inch engine. They are also less likely to be sheared off in the event of a backfire. An early style starter pinion gear, available from S&S and other sources, is required for all 1994-2005 models. In spite of the tremendous power and torque handling capacity of the S&S high performance clutch, it is only slightly larger than stock and can be used in stock primary cases with only minor clearance operations, which are not visible when the primary is assembled.

This new product is scheduled for release to authorized S&S dealers and distributors this fall and will appear in the 2006 Dealer Catalog.

The S&S website is located at http://www.sscycle.com

flag

As we go into this Memorial Day Weekend let’s all remember what this holiday is about.

For those of you who are going to be out on the road, be careful out there and stay safe!

Commentary: Stop to salute on Memorial Day by Capt. John Rasmussen

It was raining “cats and dogs” and I was late for physical training. Traffic was backed up at Fort Campbell, Ky., and was moving way too slowly. I was probably going to be late and I was growing more and more impatient. The pace slowed almost to a standstill as I passed Memorial Grove, the site built to honor the soldiers who died in the Gander airplane crash, the worst redeployment accident in the history of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault).

Because it was close to Memorial Day, a small American flag had been placed in the ground next to each soldier’s memorial plaque. My concern at the time, however, was getting past the bottleneck, getting out of the rain and getting to PT on time. All of a sudden, infuriatingly, just as the traffic was getting started again, the car in front of me stopped. A soldier, a private of course, jumped out in the pouring rain and ran over toward the grove. I couldn’t believe it! This knucklehead was holding up everyone for who knows what kind of prank. Horns were honking. I waited to see the butt-chewing that I wanted him to get for making me late. He was getting soaked to the skin. His BDUs were plastered to his frame. I watched-as he ran up to one of the memorial plaques, picked up the small American flag that had fallen to the ground in the wind and the rain, and set it upright again. Then, slowly, he came to attention, saluted the small flag, ran back to his car, and drove off.

I’ll never forget that incident. That soldier, whose name I will never know, taught me more about duty, honor, and respect than a hundred books or a thousand lectures. That simple salute, that single act of honoring his fallen brother, and his flag encapsulated all the Army values in one gesture for me. It said, “I will never forget. I will keep the faith. I will finish the mission. I am an American soldier.” I thank God for examples like that. And on this Memorial Day, I will remember all those who paid the ultimate price for my freedom, and one Army Private, soaked to the skin, who honored them.

Subject: THE HIPPIE AND THE NUN

A hippie gets on a bus and spies a pretty young nun. He sits down next to her, and asks her, “Can we have sex?” “No, she replies, “I’m married to God.” She stands up, and gets off at the next stop.

The bus driver, who overheard, turns to the hippie and says: “I can tell you how to have sex with her.”

“Yeah?”, says the hippie.

“Yeah!”, say the bus driver, “She goes to the cemetery every Tuesday night at midnight to pray. So all you have to do is dress up in a robe with a hood, put some of that luminous powder stuff in your beard, and pop up in the cemetery and tell her you’re God.”

The hippie decides to give it a try, and arrives in the cemetery dressed as suggested on the next Tuesday night. “I am God”, he declares to the nun, keeping the hood low about his face, “Have sex with me.’

The nun agrees without question, but begs him to restrict himself to anal sex, as she is desperate not to lose her virginity. ‘God’ agrees, and promptly has his wicked way with her. As he finishes, he jumps up and throws back his hood with a flourish.

‘A-HA,’ he cries, “I’m the hippie!’

“A-HA”, cries the nun, “I’m the bus driver!!

BDL INSTALL ADDITION

Bandit, First, the BDL installation guide is GREAT! There is, however, one VERY important part missing and I hope you can add a notation to the web. After successfully installing my BDL, I notice a few drip of oil after every ride. Nothing major at all, but annoying. After pulling the drive train several time, I finally called S&S and learned that the Sprocket Shaft Seal need to be installed the opposite direct as with wet primaries. The Harley Part number is 12026B. It’s an easy install, but a real pain to pull the entire primary, so this would be a very good tip to include EARLY in the guide.

Hope this will help anyone else installing an Open Primary…Here is my install….

I knew Andy as a young biker. We learned how to build engines from the master Bob George, who created the ER streamliner, the fastest motorcycle in the world for over a decade. I helped Andy start HES, Harley Engine Services. He built the first billet clutch pressure plate. His name will come up often.–Bandit

That?s it–sorry for the delay but something funny was going on with our server yesterday. Enjoy the Memorial Day with your friends and family.
