NEW ISSUE COMING FROM CYCLE SOURCE– Not sure if we told anyone yet but our next issue will be titled “Choppers Rule” and we’d like to do something a little different with a couple pages.

In addition to some killer rail chops we’d like to run some now and then pics of people with their choppers back in the day and updated photos of them and their bikes now. If you could help us with this we’d really appreciate it.

BIKERNET LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT STUDY–Here are the top 10 winners in the International Pun Contest: 1. A vulture boards an airplane, carrying two dead raccoons. The Stewardess looks at him and says, “I’m sorry, sir, only one carrion allowed per passenger.”

2. Two fish swim into a concrete wall. The one turns to the other and says, “Dam!”

3. Two Eskimos sitting in a kayak were chilly, so they lit a fire in the craft. Not surprisingly it sank, proving once again that you can’t have your kayak and heat it too.

4. Two hydrogen atoms meet. One says, “I’ve lost my electron.” The other says, “Are you sure?” The first replies, “Yes, I’m positive.”

THERE IS MORE TO A TRANSMISSION THAN JUST METAL– BAKER Drivetrain, known for tenaciously seeking any room for improvement in the drivetrain arena, has eagerly found an opportunity to keep enhancing drivetrain performance with a special, new lubricant by Spectro oils.

Above all others BAKER has discovered, approved, and endorsed the Spectro Heavy Duty Platinum 6- Speed Transmission Lubricant for their DD6 transmission. Perfect for the DD6’s characteristics, Spectro has kept 6-speeds, straight-cut, and helical-cut gears in mind when developing this true group 4 synthetic formula for V-Twin motorcycles. BAKER has found exciting results with this lubricant when used in conjunction with their leading transmission. The effect is more-dependable, smooth, quiet performance with minimal wear when exactly 23oz. of Spectro Heavy Duty Platinum is added to a BAKER DD6 transmission.

Given the oil’s particular properties, 23 ounces is just the right amount of Spectro Heavy Duty Platinum SAE 75w140 to completely keep the gearbox well lubricated while minimizing internal resistance and preventing pressure-caused leaks. To continue to keep their transmissions running at their fullest potential, BAKER not only endorses this select amount of Spectro Heavy Duty Platinum Transmission Lubricant, but they will now include 23 FL. OZ. of Spectro Heavy Duty platinum with their most comprehensive, easily-installed builder’s kit on the market: The DD6. The 23 oz bottle will eliminate guesswork on filling your new BAKER transmission. Distribution of this new bundle is due late spring/early summer 2008.

This combination of Spectro’s top-performing transmission lubricant with BAKER’s top-performing, most- proven, and widely-successful transmission provides the finest riding and ownership experience with a convenient, hassle-free, and positive installation experience.

DAYTONA BIKE WEEK DELIVERS FINANCIAL POINTERS– Financial and motorcycle experts look to Daytona for economic indicators By the Staff of Clutch and Chrome February 12th, 2008 Motorcycle industry experts as well as savvy financial analysts will be looking to Daytona to answer the question; When is a Bike Week more than a Bike Week?

Daytona Bike Week, which starts February 29th and runs through March 9th is the first major motorcycle event since manufacturers have released mixed sales numbers, most of which have left many uncertain about 2008.

Higher fuel prices were the reason given for the slight drop in attendance at Sturgis last August, affecting those attendees who towed (or trailered) their motorcycles to the event.

Since then, less motorcycles have been sold compared to the same period from the year before and financial experts have freely used the word recession when discussing the American economy. Many claim the country may already be in a recession while more optimistic experts put the odds at 50% of one happening.Organizers had the height of Daytona’s Bike Week attendance at 500,000, with that number falling to as low as 350,000 in recent years. The Florida rally has a friendly rivalry with Sturgis which claimed an estimated 507,000 in 2007, slightly down from the peak of 525,000 in 2005.

Because of the popularity of Daytona Bike Week as well as the economic timing leaves the rally as a major indicator to many financial trends from discretionary income to the state of the motorcycle industry in general.

OUR CRAZED WORLD WANTS TO TAG EVERYONE–You know Big Brother is here when everyone including M.A.D.D (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) and D.A.M.M. (Drunks Against Mad Mothers) are not for this Bill, but looks like it will be passed anyway.

While they are at it, how about green tags for pot smokers?

Bill proposes yellow plates to identify, shame DUI drivers.–ROGUE

SEATTLE, WA; Sen. Mike Carrell wants everyone on the road to know who’s been caught driving drunk.

He’s sponsoring a bill that would require people convicted of drunken driving to put fluorescent-yellow license plates on their cars for one year once their driving privileges have been restored.

“I’ve talked to the law-enforcement agencies and they think it would be an awfully good idea to have a way of visibly telling sheep from goats out on the road,” said Carrell, R-Lakewood. It also could help law-abiding drivers as a signal to give a wider berth to anyone behind the wheel of a car with bright-yellow plates, Carrell said.

Carrell believes the shame involved in having a fluorescent license plate might keep drivers from getting behind the wheel drunk. Said Carrell, “I believe shame will keep people from doing it. Looking at somebody who is driving around with a fluorescent yellow license plate should be a good reason for others to decide ‘I don’t want to have my neighbors knowing that I’m a drunk.'”

But not everyone agrees that such a public designation is the best way to go after drunken drivers.

“The first thing it reminded me of was reading ‘The Scarlet Letter’ in high school,” said Sen. Brian Weinstein, D-Mercer Island, referring to Nathaniel Hawthorne’s 1850 novel in which the heroine must wear the letter “A” on her chest as punishment for adultery.

“Obviously I am opposed to drunken drivers. I think everyone is,” Weinstein said. “But I don’t think this is going to solve anything, and it will have the unintended consequence of embarrassing a lot of innocent people.”

Meanwhile the largest anti-drunk-driving organization in the world, Mother’s Against Drunk Driving are against the fluorescent plates. They say that there’s no scientific proof that the plates discourage drunk driving and that they believe that shame is the wrong tactic to do so.

The bill, Senate Bill 6402, was approved last week by the Senate Judiciary Committee and now is before the Transportation Committee.

DUI offenders would be charged $10 per plate for cars. Motorcycles and mopeds would require just one plate, at a cost of $2.

If passed, the law would go into effect on January 1, 2009.

Ohio, Iowa, Minnesota and Oregon have similar requirements for DUI offenders. In Ohio, people convicted of drunken driving are issued yellow plates with crimson numbers. In Iowa, their plates contain the letter “Z.”

Offenders in Minnesota are issued plates that bear a unique series of numbers, and in Oregon, convicted drunken drivers display a special sticker on their license plates.

KART-QUAD-MOTORCYCLES DYNAMOMETERS–The Kart and Quad dynamometers represent the new challenge of SOFT-ENGINE production. These dynamometers can test the entire vehicle, and not only Kart (or Quad) engine. Generally, by this dyno is possible to test all kind of two-wheel-vehicles with little dimensions, like the microcars.

Soft-Engine Kart and Quad dynamometers exsists in two different versions, Inertial (Inertial tests) and Braker (braked tests)

The most complete dynamometer model is called “Braker KQM 150”, a multi-purpouse dynamometer to test Kart, Quads and Motorcycles: thanks to the eddy current brake, you can steady the engine at different rpm points, so you can make the engine mapping. Moreover, by our special combined test, it’s possible to make a realistic road-simulation, because while you accelerate the vehicle, the eddy current brake gives a suitable progressive load to engine to simulate the road conditions.

FIGHTING WISCONSIN’S LEGISLATIVE AGENDA– In support of ABATE of Wisconsin’s legislative agenda, Hupy and Abraham, S.C. helped to bring dozens of bikers to the State Capitol on March 4, 2008, by sponsoring two busses for the southeast Wisconsin area. In addition, Attorney Michael Hupy attended the lobby day himself as an experienced lobbyist, assisting other ABATE members in speaking to their elected officials.

Hupy has lobbied on behalf of ABATE of Wisconsin a number of times, testified at public hearings on bills sponsored by ABATE and helped draft language on bills ABATE put forward to through the legislature.

THE BOOTHILL SALOON DAYTONA REPORT– Most of the time the weather was great until the last weekend where it rained all day Friday and Saturday was like a mini Hurricane with gusts of winds strong enough to blow over tents and ruin the day.

Oh well, We had a great time at the Boothill Saloon and at the Daytona International Speedway! One of the best parts of Bike Week is going into the speedway infield through the tunnel and revving the hell out of your engine! WHAT A SOUND THAT TUNNEL MAKES!!!!

Boothill Saloon was awesome as always, they had some great contests all week long from frozen t-shirt contests to our hottest Bikini Contest we held in the pouring rain on Friday Night. Samantha Harris was the winner and Nikki Lee came in second. What a great Bikini Contest.

I would also like to thank all of our sponsors who helped us have the magazines we needed for the entire 10 days of Bike Week. Please visit these sponsors as they are the reason we had extra magazines to pass out in Daytona Beach.

HARLEY-DAVIDSON’S WOMEN’S RIDE RAISES MORE THAN $67,000 FOR MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY– Hundreds of Women Riders Were Joined by Motor Company Founder’s Great-Granddaughter, Karen Davidson, and American Idol Star, Kimberley Locke.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (March 10, 2008) – On Tuesday, hundreds of Harley-Davidson women riders joined together in Daytona Beach, Fla., along with Season two “American Idol” star Kimberley Locke for one of the largest Harley-Davidson women’s rides in history.

Originally, the Harley-Davidson Women’s Day Ride benefiting Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) was to be limited to 105 women, but after an incredible response from women riders asking to join the ride, Harley-Davidson decided to increase the size to accommodate the large demand.

Locke and hundreds of other female riders were joined by Karen Davidson, great-granddaughter of one of the Company’s founders, as well as the six Get Down to Daytona contest winners as they cruised through the streets of Daytona to thunderous applause from spectators.

“The success of the Women’s Day Ride reflects the growth of our female riders over the past two decades, from 4% in 1990 to 12% today. The event raised more than an incredible $67,000 in contributions,” said Davidson.

Women participating in the ride raised money for their local MDA office to help send children to MDA Summer Camps. Three women received special recognition as the top fundraisers for the event: Joanne Mold of Forest Hill, Md., ($3,055 raised), Dee Roberts of Bernville, Pa., ($2,717) and Lynne Cone of Houston ($2,715). Each received a 105th Anniversary Harley-Davidson women’s jacket, and had lunch with Karen Davidson, the six Get Down to Daytona contest winners and MDA ambassadors.

One week at MDA Summer Camp costs $800 per child, so women who raised that amount or more received a unique Harley-Davidson/MDA sterling silver and gold charm in recognition of their gold-level fundraising. Women who raised at least $400 received a sterling silver charm.
