From Chris T.

Incredible day,

Strange month. I’ve lost some old friends this month, some closer than others. Bevi Whitehouse worked for Easyriders for about 30 years. She recently died of a blood disorder. She was a terrific woman. A guy who had lots of trouble in his life, John Morgan, worked for Hot Bike at one time, passed recently. Mustang Jack passed away. He loved the work of David Mann and had his own creative spirit. I will always cherish the wild gifts he brought to the shop.

A buddy of mine said recently that he hasn’t had a vacation in ten years. He said it with pride. I murmured the same bullshit years ago while working for Easyriders. Life is not about working yourself to death. Make sure you pump in a couple of wild adventures every year. I’m forcing my partner, Kent Weeks of Lucky Devils Metal Works in Houston, to ride to Sturgis this year, then come with us to Bonneville. Close up the shop for a week. It’ll still be there when he gets back.

And if you’re a romantic bastard, like myself, there’s always a girl waiting just around the corner. Let’s hit the news:

Valerie best

SPEAKING OF GIRLS- – Valerie Thompson is Scottsdale’s fastest woman on two wheels.

The drag bike racer clocked 153.563 mph last September at the hard-packed Bonneville Salt Flats speed course on a borrowed racing motorcycle.

“I didn’t want to do it,” she said, worried that the bike would wobble. “I tried to get out of it.”

But ride she did, and her Bonneville speed isn’t too far off her personal best effort so far on a drag bike. Last October, she chewed up the quarter-mile track at Rockingham, N.C., in 10.26 seconds and crossed the traps at 135.01 mph. This year her goal is to go faster and win her first drag race. She will also be riding Bikernet Bonneville contenders in September. She has the racer’s spirit.

“I’ve had some close races,” she said.

Sitting in her stylishly decorated condominium that she shares with two male tabby cats, she glances at the laptop running in front of her, tuned to her Web site and with her rhinestone-encrusted cellphone a fingertip away. Her personal Harley-Davidson Fat Boy motorcycle is parked in the garage. Thompson – Miss Arizona Bike Week 2004 – speaks with conviction when she says, “I’m going to be the world’s fastest female on two wheels.”

Thompson, 34, wasn’t always a “race girl,” as she says. She spent most of her working life in the collections department of a bank. In fact, she has been racing for only a year. Her first experience on two wheels was five years ago, when she wanted to take a ride on the back of a friend’s bike. He was afraid that she would scratch a fender.

“He said I could get my own,” she said. “I went down and bought a bike the next day.”

As she met other riders, she discovered amateur racing and decided to turn her hobby into her new career. She threw herself into every aspect of drag racing, including the marketing side.

As she begins the 2006 season, she’ll ride a Hacienda Harley-Davidson of Scottsdale “Screamin’ Eagle V-Rod Destroyer, powered by a 1300cc engine pumping 165 horsepower. It’s capable of 10-second quarter-mile runs and speeds of more than 130 mph.

Thompson is planning a full schedule in the All Harley Davidson Drag Racing Association, a group that began in the 1970s as a club that now attracts 250 competitors with a 14-event card this year and more than $1 million in prize money.

At first, her fellow drag racers viewed her as a curiosity, but after she earned the “No. 1 Qualifier” distinction last November in Las Vegas, attitudes began changing.

“I think now I’ll be more respected out there,” she said.

Like all aspiring racers, Thompson sets her goals high. She hopes to break into the National Hot Rod Association’s premier motorcycle racing class, Pro Stock, and compete against the series’ female star, Angelle Savoie.

Thompson hardly can sit still as she talks about her racing and her ambitions, but her easy smile vanishes when she says that she’s a “sponge,” soaking up everything that she can learn about her sport and her racing bike.

“I’m not afraid of getting my hands dirty,” she said. “I’m not afraid of breaking a nail.”

TERRY COMPONENTS TERMINAL VELOCITY FUEL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM– I am also installing the Terminal Velocity on my Roadglide. I run Bassani True Duals with the Power Curve head pipe. I welded the bung on yesterday and took some photos of it. if you want to use them I’ll send them once I’ve finished the installation.

I’m replacing the Power Commander because I want more freedom when I make changes to the engine. I don’t like having to take the bike back to the dyno after each mod which is why the Terminal Velocity unit seems to be the right choice.

I’m also changing my Screamin’ Eagle air cleaner for the new K&N unit with the velocity stack. I’m riding this bike out to AZ Bike Week so I’ll be able to get a handle on how well both parts work as well as any gas mileage improvements I see, should be easy to document. I’ll keep you informed if you want.

BARROOM BANTER–A man enters a new bar & orders a drink. The bar has a robot bartender that serves him a perfectly-prepared cocktail, and then asks the man, “What’s your IQ?”

The man replies “140.” So, the robot proceeds to make conversation about global warming, quantum physics, biomimicry, environmental inter-connectedness, string theory, nano-technology, and sexual proclivities.

The customer is very impressed and thinks, “This is really cool!”

He decides to test the robot. So, he walks out of the bar, turns around, and comes back in for another drink. Again, the robot serves him a perfectly-prepared drink and asks once more, “What’s your IQ?”

The man responds, “About a 100.” Immediately the robot starts talking; but this time about football, NASCAR, supermodels, favorite fast food, guns, and women’s breasts.

Really impressed, the man leaves the bar and decides to give the robot one more test. He heads out and returns, the robot serves him and asks, “What’s your IQ?”

The man replies, “Er, 60, I think.”

And the robot says…. very slowly, “So…… are ya gonna …. vote for Bush again?

BIKERNET GETS RIDERS INVOLVED– just got a call from a club member in Idaho who’s fairly politically involved. He and his club members want to get involved in the fight so I gave him the task of locating biker friendly legislators who may be willing to introduce a bill if that’s a direction we go.

He got my contact through Bikernet so people are paying attention and its great to get some positive feedback.

Had a great conversation with Tom Pirone of TP Eng yesterday and he wants to be as involved as possible with the regulatory fight. If we get a meeting together soon I think he should definitely be invited as he’d be willing to come and may offer a different perspective as a certified engine manufacturer, but someone who also wants to beat back the new regs if possible.

RAKE CALCULATOR CONNECTION– Thought you might like this. It is the easiest and best Rake and Trail calculator I`ve seen. It takes about 30 seconds and you`ve got it .

TECH QUESTION– What’s your thought on using AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID TYPE-F in the primary? BDL , BARNETT , REVTECH are all recommending it with their clutch. When you rub it between your finger and thumb it doesn`t feel to be very lubricating! But they say their clutch will perform better with ATF TYPE-F, but my concern is the effect it will have on the chain and sprockets .

LEAKY PRIMARY PROBLEM, WHAT’S UP– I live in Northern California. I have a 1994 Harley-Davidson Dyna Convertible motorcycle. I would like to discuss a problem I am having with the inner primary. Everything is stock on this bike with regard to the engine and transmission except I have installed Rinehart pipes, Performance Vents on the carburetor, and an Andrews cam.

I have had this bike since 1997. There has been a leak on the backside, (transmission side), of the inner primary ever since I purchased it. I and my brother, (Mercedes mechanic for 30 years), have replaced the seals and gaskets in the inner primary a total of 6 times now!

I had my local dealer overhaul the engine, due to 70,000 miles and leaking base gaskets. I had them rebuild the clutch as well. I installed a new primary chain, compensating sprocket, stator, rotor, and a 2006 Harley-Davidson automatic chain tensioner in the primary. After putting the bike back together, and riding it for approximately 100 miles, the leak is back.

Each time I have had this inner primary apart, I have installed new seals and gaskets, torqued every bolt, checked the book to make sure it was going back together properly, and even talked to Harley mechanics to double check my work. Still the leak persists.

I have just had a new mainshaft bearing, side door bearings, seals, and gaskets installed in the transmission. I installed a new inner primary bearing too. I had my Harley dealer install a new transmission quad seal, mainshaft bearing seal, pulley, mainshaft nut, and locking plate.

My brother and I put the bike back together this past weekend. I rode it around the block to check and make sure everything worked properly. I put the bike inside of his garage and we went to lunch. When we came back to his house, I ran my hand underneath the primary and I have oil on my hand.

I cannot figure out what is actually causing this leak is and how to fix it. We have even put dye in the primary to see if we could find the leak. It appears to coming from the inner primary mainshaft seal. I have never seen any oil leaking from the jackshaft seal or anywhere else.

The next step would be to replace the inner primary and install new seals and gaskets.

Do you have any ideas about this leak?

HELLS ANGELS SUE DISNEY OVER PLANNED BIKER MOVIE– Hells Angels, the motorcycle organization, has sued the Walt Disney Company, claiming that a planned movie about a group of motorcycle riders called “Wild Hogs” infringes on its trademark name and skull logo.

The Times’s Stuart Elliott reports on advertising trends. A Disney spokesman said yesterday that the suit was without merit.

“Wild Hogs,” which has not yet begun filming, is a story about “a group of middle-aged wannabe bikers” looking for adventure on the open road, where they encounter a chapter of the Hells Angels, according to the tag line on Internet Movie Database.

In the lawsuit filed in the Federal District Court of California on Wednesday, the Hells Angels Motorcycle Corporation said the characters in the movie were identified as members of the club and wear trademark logos, although in the suit the club said Disney had not given it a copy of the script.

BLUES AND CRUISE THROUGH HISTORY–Come out and join us for the 4th Annual Claiborne County “Blues and Cruise Thru History” Motorcycle Rally and Show. Let’s travel scenic Southwest Mississippi for a GREAT cause – The Blair E. Batson Children?s Hospital. For each registered bike, our sponsor will donate $1. So if 10,000 bikers show up, that means $10,000 for the children. The Blair E. Batson Children’s Hospital is the only cancer research institution in the great state of Mississippi and is an affiliate partner of the Children?s Miracle Network.

With so much suffering in our area recently, you have been asking yourself, “How can I make a difference?” Let me share with you that the answer has arrived. “Blues and Cruise” allows you to give back, while enjoying a spectacular event. It doesn?t get any better than that!

So we ask you, your friends, club or organization to show up in large numbers to enjoy this great festival and support a worthy cause. Do it, do it for the children.

PATRIOT GUARD UPDATE–I previously forwarded to you the story about the Patriot Guard (and apparently so did several others). As an interesting follow-up to that story, today I was listening to the BBC (British Broadcasting Company, not to be confused with Big Bear Choppers). They broadcast the story and a follow-up interview with both the “Reverend” Phelps and a representative of the Patriot Guard.

The interviews spoke volumes about the makeup of both organizations. Phelps clearly came across as a raving psychotic with visions of a “purging” of America and all of it’s “damned faggot worshippers”. The more that Phelps ranted, the more irritated the interviewer became.

On the other hand, the Patriot Guard spokeman was cool, calm and articulate. An absolute professional who did a great service to our brotherhood and our veterans. I wish that you could have heard it.

In closing the interview with the church group, Phelps stated that God was killing all of the U.S. soldiers because they were protecting a country who protects and rewards homosexuals. Maybe the interviewer should have pointed out that those same soldiers gave their lives protecting lunatics like Phelps also.

IS IT GOING TO RAIN OR WHAT–It can’t decide around here. One minute the sun is shinning, the next it’s overcast and drizzling. I drank Jack last night and stared at a young Army girl’s tits. They were massive and jiggled seductively as she kissed my hand and thanked me for my time in Vietnam. I thanked her for her work in Germany to support our troops in Iraq and for a chest that gives me two more reasons to live.

I’m working with Steel Dreams, Steeds and Patriot Motor Corp. on a project this coming week. It’s could be a good time. Hang on for lots of Bikernet techs, fiction, Daytona coverage?s and bad jokes. We might have another couple of Girls of Bikernet This week.
