Hey,
Daytona is in full swing. It was windy and raining yesterday, but the sun is flying today and it’s at least 70 degrees. I’m going to touch on something here; Bikernet is working with several factions in the industry to keep us in the wind. These factions are all critical to the survival of the industry and if we could all work together we would be the strongest element for freedom in this country.
Did you know that the strongest grass roots lobbying effort in this nation behind the abortion people is the motorcycle rights movement? That’s individual ABATE and state rights efforts. On the national level we have the MRF, the AMA and NCOM. The AMA hasn’t always been our friend, but according to Jill Z. in Montana they stepped up to help them defeat a Montana mandatory helmet effort. For four years the MRF worked diligently to monitor EPA issues. In the last two Years Ted Sands from PM, Brett Smith from S&S with a number of industry fellows, working under the MIC umbrella have also stepped up to grapple with EPA issues.
It’s critical to our future, in a rapidly changing, global warming community, that we support our rights group. It’s also critical that all these efforts communicate openly for the best minds at work to maintain our freedoms. Bikernet.com will make every effort to make absolutely sure you know what’s happening on all fronts. Let’s hit the news:

DAYTONA’S LAST RESORT STILL PERSERVES EDGY AMBIENCE– PORT ORANGE — The most notorious bar in the county. One-time hangout for the Outlaws motorcycle club. The place famed serial killer Aileen Wuornos did her drinking. It’s The Last Resort.
The little building along South Ridgewood Avenue barely has space for a bar and a pool table inside. But during Bike Week and Biketoberfest, the 5-acre site is home to throngs of riders, who stop in for a gander at the place that advertises “cold beer and killer women.”

AN OLD FARMER’S ADVICE– Your fences need to be horse-high, pig-tight, and bull-strong.
* Keep skunks and bankers and lawyers at a distance.
* Life is simpler when you plow around the stump.
* A bumble bee is considerably faster than a John Deere tractor.
* Words that soak into your ears are whispered…not yelled.
* Meanness don’t jes’ happen overnight.
* Forgive your enemies. It messes up their heads.
* Do not corner something that you know is meaner than you.
* It don’t take a very big person to carry a grudge.
* You cannot unsay a cruel word.
* Every path has a few puddles.
* When you wallow with pigs, expect to get dirty.
* The best sermons are lived, not preached.
* Most of the stuff people worry about ain’t never gonna happen, anyway.
* Don’t judge folks by their relatives.
* Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer.
* Live a good, honorable life. Then when you get older and think back, you’ll enjoy it a second time.
* Don’t interfere with somethin’ that ain’t botherin’ you none.
* Timing has a lot to do with the outcome of a rain dance.
* If you find yourself in a hole, the first thing to do is stop diggin’.
* Sometimes you get, and sometimes you get got.
* The biggest troublemaker you’ll probably ever have to deal with, watches you from the mirror every mornin’.”
* Always drink upstream from the herd.
* Good judgment comes from experience, and a lotta that comes from bad judgment.
* Lettin’ the cat outta the bag is a whole lot easier than puttin’ it back in.
* If you get to thinkin’ you’re a person of some influence, try orderin’ somebody else’s dog around.
* Live simply…Love generously…Care deeply…Speak kindly…Leave the rest to God.

USMC INCIDENT REPORT– A U.S. Marine squad was marching north of Faluijiah when they came upon an Iraqi terrorist, badly injured and unconscious. On the opposite side of the road was an American Marine in a similar but less serious state.
The Marine was conscious and alert and as first aid was given to both men, the squad leader asked the injured Marine what had happened.
The Marine reported, “I was heavily armed and moving north along the highway here, and coming south was a heavily armed insurgent. We saw each other and both took cover in the ditches along the road.
“I yelled to him that Saddam Hussein is a miserable, lowlife scumbag, and he yelled back that Ted Kennedy is a good-for-nothing, fat, left wing liberal democrat drunk.”
“So I said that Osama Bin Laden dresses and acts like a frigid, mean-spirited lesbian!
He retaliated by yelling, oh yeah? Well, so does Hillary Clinton!”
“And, there we were, in the middle of the road, shaking hands, when a truck hit us”

Leading up to the spring and fall biker rallies, and motorcycle racing at Daytona International Speedway, the amount of new business activity pulls back on the throttle a little harder, reaching to get in front of the masses of bikers headed to East Central Florida. Just this week Cycle Gear, the nation’s largest chain of motorcycle accessory stores, opened a store at Volusia Point shopping center across from the Speedway. “Having a location across the street from two of the biggest motorcycle events, both on a local and national level, Cycle Gear will be seen and visited by people throughout the world,” company spokeswoman Kacey Black said. Looking around the two-county area, you have to wonder why the 30-year-old California-based retail chain, which has more than 80 stores, was so late to the party. When Tom Guest opened Chopper’s World on Main Street 22 years ago, he was the only year-round motorcycle parts dealer on the street. Now he’s been joined by Sturgis South and several others on nearby North Beach Street. “Main Street was mostly non-biker businesses back in 1985,” Guest said. “When the city did the Main Street redevelopment, a lot of those stores couldn’t hold on, and that opened up opportunities for biker businesses to come in and take over those buildings.” It’s a trend that’s continued for well over a decade, Guest said. Now Main Street is predominantly biker-oriented, both in retailing and restaurants. –Daytona Beach Journal –from Rogue THE ALL AMERICAN WHEEL STORY–All American Wheel’s forged billet aluminum wheel blanks are rotary forged and machined to the highest quality. EXCLUSIVE DAILY S&S DAYTONA REPORT–Saturday news came from James Simonelli, while he was eating lunch at the Speedway. “It rained and blew up a storm all day Saturday,” he said. “We could only ride the X-Wedge bikes from the hotel to the Speeday, where we’re set up. It was quiet in the rain, but even the diehard guys like the X-Wedge. They never missed a beat, even in the rain. We start ’em up for anyone who wants to experience the Wedge.” The 4 1/8 bore, 4 3/8 stroke engine adds up to 117 inches and they’re capable of toping 149 inches of pure V-Twin American power. “They sound like Harleys with a taste of Ducati thrown in,” James said trying to munch a greasy sandwich while talking on his cell phone.

DAYTONA BIKE WEEK WRAP FOR SUNDAY–Here’s the quick round-up for next week. We have a Cyril Huze feature-killer bike. Chris Callen, who contributed the wheel spinning tech, supplied us with a performance head article and an American Rider’s ride through the Middle East. Whatta story. We have an emergency tire repair tech from Avon, a detailing tech, the history of Doherty Machine and some hot fiction.

We’re hoping to bring you new Bonneville bike updates about our Paughco frame and an effort to drop a Sportster 5-speed tranny into our Flathead Bonne Belle. Rumor has it that if we use the stock tranny, we’ll come off the cam in third gear and that’s all we get. With the five speed we’ll stay right at the peak power and torque curve through more gears and speed. Plus the clutch will be much better than the old rusty one. Hang on for the reports.
Let me know what you think about this notion. We’re thinking about moving the majority of the Thursday news into the Cantina. We spend a lot of time and money on that big bastard and feel it’s worth charging a membership fee for the weekly report. Let me know what you think. All Cantina members will receive the Thursday news for free.
