LETS RIDE SUNDAY POST for SEPTEMBER 8, 2013

Hey,

This is the first of the new Sunday Post regime. It was 90 degrees in my shop today, and I was going to say that Bikernet was taken over by a massive Chinese conglomerate of corporations. They own half the world. But Bikernet would still be assembled in the United States. And we would be just as cool as before.

How much bullshit is that? I don’t know about you, but kids all around the vast Bikernet Ghetto on the port of Los Angeles are struggling to find direction in life. They only find drugs. We talk about enabling a lot, but it must be way beyond being too lenient. I tell kids life is all about choice, but they don’t make any good ones, just easy ones.

Life is nuts, then you die. Let’s hit the new Sunday Post with a passion and the code of the West, goddammit.

The Sunday Post is sponsored in part by the talents of Bikerpics.org.

WEEKEND FAILURE RATE
Submitted by Simon Black of Sovereign Man blog

On August 19th, 43 BC, 2056 years ago to the day, a twenty year old soldier born Gaius Octavius Thurinus assumed control of the most powerful civilization on the planet.

Standing in front of his Army that he had just marched into Rome, Gaius forced the Senate to ‘elect’ him to the highest political office in the land at the time. And once in power, he never let go.

From August 19, 43 BC until his death (which coincidentally was also on August 19th) in 14 AD, Gaius deftly increased his authority until he wielded total control over Rome.

Of course, Gaius ultimately became known as Augustus, the first emperor of the Roman Empire. So one could argue this was the day the Republic ‘officially’ died and was replaced with a succession of incompetent megalomaniacs.

This includes an infamous cast of characters, from the morally depraved Caligula to the certifiably insane Nero, to the tax-mongering Vespasian, to the oppressive tyrant Domitian.

This trend continued for hundreds of years. Tyranny. Oppression. Overspending. Hyperinflation. Civil war. External war. Debilitating taxes. Punitive regulations. And a terminal decline in people’s freedom and standard of living.

This is such a familiar story. Empires throughout history have always gone through this life cycle of rise, peak, decline, and collapse. Rome. Egypt. The Habsburg Empire. The Ottoman Empire.

And the salient points are almost always the same– out of control government spending, a rapidly debased currency, costly foreign military campaigns, burdensome regulations, etc.

More importantly, in almost every instance, there’s always been a tiny elite who think they should control the entire system.

Yet history is very clear: societies that organize themselves in this way suffer a 100% failure rate, without exception.

Curiously, these same mistakes are repeated over and over again. There’s always a new elite showering themselves with unchecked dictatorial powers– from control of the money supply to control of the military.

For example, four men control over 70% of the world’s money supply in our modern central banking system. They have the power to conjure unlimited quantities of currency out of thin air at their sole discretion.

Meanwhile, the “richest” countries in the world (US, Europe, Japan, etc.) are so deeply in debt that they have to borrow money just to pay interest on the money they’ve already borrowed.

This isn’t rocket science. Predicting the end of this system is not attention-seeking sensationalism; it’s just common sense.

During the housing boom just a few years ago, everyone thought that home prices would go up forever. Then suddenly it all crashed. And afterwards, everyone said, “Duh, it doesn’t make sense to loan millions of dollars to dead people.”

This too will seem obvious in hindsight. And even the staunchest advocates of the system (like Paul Krugman) will look back and say, “Sure, I knew that would happen. Obviously you can’t spend and print that kind of money without consequence.”

Meanwhile, the controlling elite will keep careening towards its historical destiny. That’s because today’s system shares similar fundamentals [with] nearly every other case of failed empire. And it’s foolish to think that this time will be any different.

CHANGES TO THE SUNDAY POST–

Happy.

Yes, I follow the Post’s…. I read the post as often as possible and even when I am unable to log in, I generally read the posts past.

Would it ruin your life if we changed it up so we can ride on the weekend?

No. it wouldn’t ruin a thing…… I agree, I support, and I am in favor of you writing a Post whenever you can… subscribers should recognize and understand that you live a real life too….

To add comment… In the most humble way, I and all the viewers and subscribers, have the unique privilege to see what you see and share with us. And the big thing here is PRIVLEGE… and in so, I realize and understand that the news and the time to edit and produce it, is a task. In my humble opinion, the freebie stories, the weekly updates, the multiple posts and stories you give away for free are the proof you are here for the riding people…. and goodness… have you seen the subscription rates for the rider magazines these days?

–TGF

Good grief man.
Wouldn’t you’re life be better if you rode Sundays?
Thus your ride column would be better, if your life was better?

WGAF what day you write it. Ride first. Write last.

BIKERNET UNIVERSITY WILD WORD FOR SUNDAY

habiliment huh-BIL-uh-muhnt, noun:
1. Usually, habiliments. a. clothes or clothing. b. clothes as worn in a particular profession, way of life, etc.  2. habiliments, accouterments or trappings.

At this very moment, perhaps, Toad is busy arraying himself in those singularly hideous habiliments so dear to him, which transform him from a (comparatively) good-looking Toad into an Object which throws any decent-minded animal that comes across it into a violent fit.

— Kenneth Grahame, The Wind in the Willows, 1908

It deepened; it purified. It lost its previous comedic habiliments, its air of shtick, and became unadulterated, lethal, pure despair.

— Jeffrey Eugenides, The Marriage Plot, 2011

Habiliment comes from the French word of the same spelling. It’s from the root habiller meaning “to dress.

WEEKEND GUN NUT REPORT–Obama Misses the Mark with Overbroad NFA Background Check Proposal– On August 29, the White House announced what it claimed was a “common sense” executive action to “keep the most dangerous firearms out of the wrong hands.” According to the official press release, prohibited persons are able to avoid background checks on machine guns and other classes of firearms heavily regulated under the National Firearms Act by registering those firearms to trusts or corporations. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives was therefore said to be issuing a proposed regulation to close this supposed loophole and require “individuals associated with trusts or corporations that acquire these types of weapons to undergo background checks, just as these individuals would if the weapons were registered to them individually.”

Unfortunately, the proposed rule now posted on BATFE’s website is hardly “common sense” and instead displays the Obama administration’s typical knee-jerk anti-gun bias and instinct to further burden and discourage lawful gun ownership. The firearms at issue in the rule are already covered by stringent federal regulations that require federal authorization, and special taxes for manufacture and transfer.

While they can be registered to trusts or corporations (just as any lawful property can be owned by a trust or corporation), this does not change the fact that people who are prohibited from possessing firearms cannot receive or handle NFA firearms without violating current law.

The idea that someone who wishes to obtain firearms for criminal purposes would pay for the creation of a trust, spend $10,000 or more to obtain any of a dwindling number of machine guns already in the NFA registry and available for civilian transfer, pay a $200 transfer tax on that firearm, register it with the federal government, and wait six or more months to take delivery is simply laughable.

The White House press release attempts to justify this proposal by asserting that in 2012 alone, BATFE “received more than 39,000 requests for transfers of these restricted firearms to trusts or corporations.” Yet BATFE does not cite even one instance in which any of those registered firearms was used to commit a crime.

Instead, BATFE’s proposal cites a case in which it denied a transfer of a silencer to an individual who it determined was ineligible to possess a regulated firearm and then denied a subsequent transfer to a trust created by the same person.

This near miss (which obviously was caught under existing regulations and resulted in harm to no one—unlike the Obama-Holder Justice Department’s own activities in the “Fast and Furious” operation) is the pretext on which the administration now proposes to enact far-reaching requirements that by its own reckoning would affect tens of thousands of other transfers that did not raise any red flags whatsoever. Simply requiring more red tape, as the proposed rule would, does not address the reality that the most dangerous and determined criminals will always be one at least step removed from whatever process is imposed upon the law-abiding.

The NRA will be releasing a more detailed response to BATFE’s proposed rule once the formal comment period is underway. In the meantime, we strongly support the right of peaceable, law-abiding persons to acquire these highly regulated firearms in the way that best suits their particular circumstances, whether through individual transfers or the registration of the firearms to a legal entity such as a corporation or trust.

We look forward to working with the NFA community in the long process of changing or stopping this proposal. Finally, we urge the Obama administration to rethink its misguided policy of gun control by any means possible, and instead seek real solutions to real dangers by focusing on those who actually commit crime.

MOTORCYCLE FOR SALE ON EBAY

-First class example, well maintained and sadly up for sale…….

First of all I should clarify just how reluctant I am to sell this machine, I’m also going to point out that I am very fond of my wife. She mostly plays a valuable role in the family unit, and despite her advancing years is still fairly easy on the eye.

There is also the bonus of Christmas and Birthdays, when she can still be relied upon to deliver, twice yearly, headache or not. All of which complicates things when presented with the following immortal line “Its me or that stupid bike.”

Obviously the actual word used was much stronger than “Stupid” but since I don’t want Ebay to pull my advert I have elected to save myself the hassle of redoing the ad.

Tentatively peering through my visor (I had chosen to remain helmeted giving me a strategic advantage) I knew I was in trouble by the vivid red colour of her complexion, which for a change was not as a result of over zealous application of makeup.

I was feeling slightly uncomfortable given the proximity to my exposed throat, of the vicious looking kitchen implement that was presumably in use to prepare what passes for food in our house, before she stopped mutilating the pot noodle and directed her attention to me, and then it started…..A long string of unrepeatable expletives, at least one of which was formerly unknown to me, and then without pausing for breath (come to think of it she never pauses to breathe) she spat out the ultimatum.

So I did what any self respecting rider would do in similar circumstances and I tossed a coin.

The Bike fore sale here is an 04 V-Rod with a lot of extras. In fact if you compare the bike with the book of eternal joy that is the HD Accessories catalogue you will see there is probably pretty much all of the good stuff already bolted on.

The Pipes are BUB and the power commander that is carefully mounted under the seat takes care of all the clever fuelling stuff. She sounds and runs beautifully.

There are 11,000 carefully ridden kms on the bike, which has been pampered and cared for throughout its life and this shows. The condition is marvelous, so much so that when I was uploading the pictures I decided to make it best of 3 and tossed the coin again. So it looks like fortune still favours the wife. I did think about a round of Rock Paper Scissors, but I don’t want to encourage her to make fists right now.

There are 3 months of Rego left at the moment and she is ready to ride away.

I will be posting more pictures in the coming days that show the condition, rather than my emotional attachment as demonstrated in the first batch of photographs.

Thanks for looking and feel free to ask questions, as long as your intentions are honourable and you are not going to try and scam me with your random text messages assuring me you want to buy the bike and can I please reply with my final price and condition.

I would love to entertain people with test rides around the Margaret River Wine Region and a nice lunch at home afterwards, but only if you turn up with real $$$ and assurances you will continue to look after her once the transfer docs are complete.

Thanks for all your messages of support so far. It means alot to me. Much appreciated.

On 18-Aug-13 at 20:03:45 AEST, seller added the following information:
As of the 18th August there are now 11300 kilometers because I just had a really nice ride. I’m leaving my ear plugs in because the wife has kicked off already. I wonder if the footy has subtitles

A new study released by the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory tested E15’s effects on snowmobile engines.  The study raises additional concerns for motorcyclists as the new fuel blend becomes more widely available at retailers across the country.

The impartial DOE study concluded that the effects of fueling snowmobiles with an E15 fuel blend (15 percent ethanol by volume) were not immediate; however, additional studies that focused on engine durability were needed to determine long-term effects.

The American Motorcyclist Association agrees. This is why it is so important that H.R. 875 be quickly passed and signed into law. H.R. 875 would require that E15 be tested on numerous small engines to determine the short- and long-term effects of E15. The AMA has asked that
motorcycle and all-terrain vehicle engines be part of this study.

If you have not done so, please send a prewritten message to your representative urging them to support H.R. 875. You can do so by clicking the “Take Action” button above.

Additionally, the study concluded that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s decision to not include snowmobiles on the list of approved vehicles for E15 fuel blend was correct because “[t]hese vehicles do not have the same sophisticated control systems…and do not compensate for the additional oxygen content of the E15 fuel.”

In fact, the exhaust gas temperature increased when using E15.

The EPA has not approved E15 use for any of the estimated 22 million motorcycles and ATVs in use.

The AMA’s concern is that since motorcycles and snowmobiles have similar engines and exhaust systems, motorcycle exhausts will experience the same outcomes as the snowmobile exhausts tested.  (pictured here).

The bottom line—the AMA wants access to safe fuels for motorcycles and ATVs. Given marketplace realities, wherever E15 is sold there will very likely be inadvertent misfueling issues. Motorcycles and ATVs are not approved for E15 use, and inadvertently misfueling a motorcycle or ATV has the potential to not only damage the machine but also to void a
manufacturer’s warranty.

The loser of any inadvertent misfueling is the motorcyclist and ATV rider. The AMA stands behind not only its members, but all riders, in calling for more extensive testing for E15 and more thorough misfueling safeguards.

Get the facts on this important issue with the AMA’s E15 and Motorcycles Q&A.

For details on how the AMA has you–the motorcyclist–in mind concerning the untested effects of E15 fuel on your ride, see

A QUIET MOMENT OF REFLECTION IN THE CANTINA CATHERDAL— There was a Scottish painter named Smokey MacGregor who was very interested in making a penny where he could, so he often thinned down his paint to make it go a wee bit further.

As it happened, he got away with this for some time, but eventually the local church decided to do a big restoration job on the outside of one of their biggest buildings. Smokey put in a bid and, because his price was so low, he got the job.

So he set about erecting the scaffolding and setting up the planks,  and buying the paint and yes, I am sorry to say, thinning it down with  turpentine………

Well, Smokey was up on the scaffolding, painting away, the job nearly  completed, when suddenly there was a horrendous clap of thunder,  the sky opened and the rain poured down washing the thinned paint  from all over the church and knocking Smokey clear off the scaffold to land on the lawn among the gravestones, surrounded by telltale puddles  of the thinned and useless paint.

Smokey was no fool. He knew this was a judgment from the Almighty,  so he got down on his knees and cried:
“Oh God, Oh God, forgive me; what should I do?”
And from the thunder, a mighty voice spoke.

(you’re going to love this)

“Repaint! Repaint! And thin no more!”

“Blessed are the cracked, for they are the ones who let in the light.”

THE WORLD OF NEVER ENDING LAWS EXPANDS ONCE MORE–Wisconsin: Legislation Seeking Increased Penalties for Marijuana Possession Introduced Legislation is pending in the Senate and Assembly that seeks to allow municipalities to penalize marijuana possession offenders in instances where the District Attorney has refused to prosecute.

Under state law, local governments prosecute first-time marijuana possession offenses involving 25 grams or fewer. Repeat offenses, or any offense involving a quantity of marijuana over 25 grams, is prosecuted in state court at the discretion of the District Attorney. Senate Bill 150 and its companion bill (AB 164) would allow local jurisdictions to enact ordinances allowing for municipal courts to prosecute repeat cannabis possession offenders and/or those charged with possession more than 25 grams of cannabis in cases where the District Attorney has explicitly declined to do so.

At a time when many states and local jurisdictions are moving away from spending limited resources to target minor marijuana offenders, it makes little sense to enact legislation allowing for the continued prosecution of such persons in instances where the District Attorney has decided to forgo such actions.

Additional information about this legislation and efforts to oppose it is available from Wisconsin NORML here.

AND YET IN ANOTHER STATE…Kentucky Legislature to Hold Informational Hearing on Medical Marijuana

Kentucky lawmakers will hold an informational hearing on Wednesday, August 21, at 12 pm to discuss the issue of legalizing the therapeutic use of cannabis. The hearing will set the stage for a serious legislative push to legalize the plant in 2014. It will be held at the Capitol Annex building, 700 Capitol Avenue Loop, Frankfort, KY 40601, in room 129.

An August 2013 Kentucky Health Issues Poll revealed that 78 percent of Kentucky residents support legalizing the medical use of marijuana.

Those interested in voicing their support for the medicinal use of cannabis should contact Kentuckians for Medicinal Marijuana here.

You can also contact your state lawmakers in support of medical marijuana law reform.

NOT BAD—For our first effort to grab Sunday back, and devote more time to writing my screenplay. Lots of the credit goes out to Mistress, Chris Kranzler and her husband Richard for lending a hand.

Ray Wheeler talks about how lucky we are to share our fun with the rest of the world. Ray shares healing Kangen water with folks all over the southland. We are thankful for all the motorcycle opportunities we stumble on each week, and for all the fun we can have.

We bitch and moan about the government, but there’s so much bitchin’ stuff to do. Hell, even the government could learn from the Code of the West, help more folks and have more fun in the process. I keep fighting for more freedom.

Let’s keep the faith and the spirit alive. Plus the girls just get better looking every day. Good God.

Ride Forever
