LA CALENDAR SHOW SUNDAY POST

Hey,

This is an incredible news. It’s got a bit of everything and some truly bad jokes. We rolled over to the reduced LA Calendar Show yesterday. Only a handful of bikes in the competition, but still a wild assortment of highclass customs and bobbers.

In many respects it’s sad to see this show falter. It was for years, the show of shows right on the water in a park, under the bow of the historic Queen Mary. What could be better. Times are strange, but the desire to build a world-class custom will never die. Shows will return and be stronger than ever someday. I’m checking with John Green right new. I wanted to confirm if Easyriders will throw a show in Los Angeles this winter.

We have a new addition to the Bikernet Code of the West: Treat us like gold and we’ll treat you like platinum. A quote from Ray C. Wheeler, Bikernet V.P.

Let’s hit the news. I need to jump back into the shop on the Mudflap girl bikes:

MORE UPDATES FROM THE BIKERNET UNIVERSITY MASTERS PROGRAM–

* Nine out of every 10 living things live in the ocean
* The banana cannot reproduce itself. It can be propagated only by the hand of man
* Airports at higher altitudes require a longer airstrip due to lower air density
* The University of Alaska spans four time zones
* The tooth is the only part of the human body that cannot heal itself.
* In ancient Greece, tossing an apple to a girl was a traditional proposal of marriage. Catching it meant she accepted.
* Warner Communications paid $28 million for the copyright to the song “Happy Birthday”.
–From Ted Terebenetz

HOW TO SAVE THE AIRLINES–
Dump the male flight attendants. No one wanted them in the first place.

Replace all the female flight attendants with good-looking strippers! What the hell, they don’t even serve food anymore, so what’s the loss?

The strippers would at least triple the alcohol sales and get a ‘party atmosphere’ going in the cabin. And, of course, every businessman in this country would start flying again, hoping to see naked women.

Because of the tips, female flight attendants wouldn’t need a salary , thus saving even more money. I suspect tips would be so good that we could charge the women for working the plane and have them kick back 20% of the tips, including lap dances and ‘special services.’

Muslims would be afraid to get on the planes for fear of seeing naked women. Hijackings would come to a screeching halt, and the airline industry would see record revenues.

This is definitely a win-win situation if we handle it right — a golden opportunity to turn a liability into an asset.

Why didn’t Obama think of this? Why do I still have to do everything myself ?

–from Geno

BIKERNET UPDATED–  Just FYI, McAfee and other webwashers companies are have now classified Bikernet as provocative, etc. and no longer visible from many wifi hotspots or at companies, universities, etc. I didn’t know if you knew about that or not.

Anyway, did you get any feedback on the first chapter of the story? I finally made it to Santa Maria from MS. 2148 miles…Driving a truck and hauling a 12′ uhaul trailer through LA was about as stressful an experience I have ever had. Add to the fact that an 18 wheeler kicked up a rock and almost cracked my windshield in half.

But at least the weather is good here and I have found that Santa Maria style BBQ really lives up to its name.

I’ll have the second chapter out in a couple of weeks.

RUSTY’S NEW GUITAR–
After months going back and forth between guitar companies deciding which brand is the best from sound, quality, to artist relations, we’ve chosen the best, ESP Guitars. Great guitar, excelent team, and amazing Artist Relations.

Thank you Allen Steelgrave!!!

“Attika7 set which delivered on their mantra of hard metal. Rusty Coones delivers on his wish to put together a band that could support the tunes he wrote while doing time. Attika 7 does not mess around this band is pure play till the bottle of Jack is gone rock n roll. It’s as if that special hard rock DNA is implanted in this band, prison time, choppers, even some level of celebrity. Atttika7 only suffered from too brief a set. Rusty looked like he was just getting into it.” — Musink 2011 OC

“If the bands Rob Zombie and Black Sabbath were to have a spawn the mighty Attika 7 would be it! It is very surreal to see a band you have watch work its way up the ranks in this industry. From the club scene to Rockstar Uproar, and Musink. Also with the track “Greed and Power” featured in an episode of the hit FX show Sons of Anarchy.

Fronted by singer Jay Rexx and axe grinder Rusty Attika 7 was a great fit into this years Musink. Into the Blackness opened the set for Attika 7 followed by Hellbound, Greed and Power, and Serial Killer. All tracks listed can be found on itunes, definitely a great e.p. to add to your library. Along with not only having a talent of playing guitar, Rusty is a custom chopper builder (Illusion Motorsports) and had an exhibit of some of OC’s finest custom choppers to view. Keep your eyes and ears open! Attika 7 will be riding down the highway to a town near you!” — Ryan Espinoza, MUSINK Tattoo & Music Festival – Day 1 – 3/4/2011
“Los Angeles, CA based band ATTIKA 7, which features Static-X bassist Tony Campos, have firmed up their summer touring plans, which includes four shows on the upcoming Rockstar Uproar Tour with Disturbed, Avenged Sevenfold, HellYeah, and others. Here is the band’s current road schedule:” — Jonathan, ATTIKA 7 Added To CA Uproar Dates

AGENT ZEBRA WRITES A BOOK–
Here you go, goddammit.
Oh. I forgot one thing. If you read it–you can read, right?– and if you like it–if you can read, you’ll like it better–and you want to list it for sale on that shameful digital rag, I’ll cut you in for half of net, which is about $4 per book. Meaning you’d get $1. Okay, fine, $2. It’s got a little bit in there about motorcycles.

In fact, ironically, because we’re both still alive to talk about it 22 years later, the first time we spoke (you called my castle in New Orleans at some unholy hour demanding to speak to Special Agent Zebra) after you read that outlaw article I published in the now defunct Angry Thoreauan, I was writing the first draft of Ketchup Soup.

Kick Sparkplug (the cat) for me. Unless he’s gone to kitty Hell. Then pour a shot of Jack on his grave for me. Assuming you went to the trouble to mark it. Fucking savage.

Today’s KRYLON JOHN THEME— Frame jigs– In Biker issue # 276 the next one to hit the newsstands “Clean” Dean, Beatnik, and I have started a series of stories on motorcycle history as it relates to the biker lifestyle, and the type of bikes our niche prefers to ride.

In Biker 276 there’s a story with photos from back in the day featuring Dick’s Custom Cycle which is now known as Atlas Precision. The frame jig Dick is standing next to is the same one that was in his garage on Queenside when he first started.

A good of SGV history in this story. For a future story I’m working on here’s a shot of Eddie Ryan’s Harley-Davidson shop in San Pedro right before it was torn down in 1972. I’ve recently become friends with George Hood, and he has all of the tooling out of Eddie Ryan’s shop including Eddie’s frame jig that was built in 1929. I’m sorry to cut this short, but I’ve got a cover story due tomorrow for Custom Classic Trucks.

BIKERNET UNIVERSITY ENGLISH DEPARTMENT DISMAL WORD OF THE DAY–abject ab-JEKT, adjective:

1. Utterly hopeless, miserable, humiliating, or wretched.
2. Contemptible; despicable.

In fact, I lived in such abject sloth during the week leading up to the reading that I wrote nothing, not even my diary.
— Toby Litt, Beatniks

It was as though some part of him obscurely desired to accept defeat and misery, were anxious to make abjection yet more abject.
— Aldous Huxley, Point counter point

Abject translates to the Latin equivalent of “thrown down.”

Rock artist Jasmine Cain Returns to the Broken Spoke Saloon for the 71st Annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally!–

Nashville, TN—July 14, 2011: Like chocolate and peanut butter…some things just go together and this year Jasmine Cain is returning to the Broken Spoke Saloon. Deemed the Rock Queen of Sturgis, Jasmine is one of the only annual performers who was actually born and raised in Strugis. Jasmine grew up in a small town of Opal, SD on a family cattle ranch and went from riding horses to riding Harley’s.

Once a year she returns to the soil where she took her first steps. But this year, she returns home with her third and latest album in hand! The album, “Highway Prophet,” is gaining momentum as she and the band blaze a trail down familiar highways. The first single, “Run Away” is capturing the attention of radio stations nationwide, becoming an instant favorite of listeners. “It’s always so great to come home to friends, family, and familiar faces that I haven’t seen in a while. And with Sturgis Motorcycle Rally being the ultimate family reunion, I never step onstage in front of a stranger.” says Jasmine. With two award winning albums already under her belt, each year Sturgis is like a homecoming for the road weary thrasher and her band of rebel rockers. Her last album, “Locks & Keys,” took first place in a record total of six categories in this year’s JPF Awards Show, which judges independent musical artists worldwide.

Among the many awards she received, JPF honored Jasmine as the reining Female Artist of the Year! Here’s what Nashville’s #1 Rock Station has to say: “Jasmine Cain is THE REAL DEAL! Few new artists come to mind who encompass the essence of rock n roll. Jasmine ‘s songs are filled with emotion as well as detail, putting you in the driver’s seat as she takes you on a musical ride of imagery and diversity. With an unrepentant spirit, Jasmine Cain is ready for lift-off. Lucky for us, the lift-off is NOW!-Mac, 97.1 RQQ- Nashville’s Rock Station, Music Director/Afternoon Radio Personality. Jasmine Cain’s shows are stadium-quality performances, high in energy, and wildly entertaining. The band is a cast of musical characters offering a tightly unique performance and intensity rarely seen even among national acts.

“In the twenty years that I have bee promoting events, the longest lines I have ever seen at a band’s merch booth is at Jasmine Cain’s booth. They leave the audience wanting more and that’s how I measure the success of a band.” says John Green, Promoter for Easyrider Events. For a list of Jasmine’s performance dates, please visit the Broken Spoke Saloon website (www.brokenspokesaloon.com) or www.jasminecain.com. For Information on the new album, “Highway Prophet”, please visit us at www.jasminecain.net. To purchase Jasmine Cain albums, go to www.cdbaby.com. THE FUNERAL–
A man was leaving a convenience store with his morning coffee when he noticed a most unusual funeral procession approaching the nearby cemetery.

A black hearse was followed by a second black hearse about 50 feet behind the first one.

Behind the second hearse was a solitary man walking a dog on a leash.

Behind him, a short distance back, were about 200 men walking single file.

The man couldn’t stand the curiosity.

He respectfully approached the man walking the dog and said, “I am so sorry for your loss, and this may be a bad time to disturb you, but I’ve never seen a funeral like this.

“Whose funeral is it?”

“My wife’s.”

”What happened to her?”

The man replied, “My dog attacked and killed her.”

He inquired further, “But who is in the second hearse?”

The man answered, “My mother-in-law. She was trying to help my wife when the dog turned on her..”

A very poignant and touching moment, of brotherhood and silence, passed between the two men.

“Can I borrow the dog?”

The man replied, “Get in line.”

INTERESTING OBAMACARE FACTS–

This Is True

Will you ever sell your house after 2012? Call your Democratic Senator’s Office to confirm this hidden fact about the ObamaCare regulation.  Did you know that if you sell your house after 2012 you will pay a 3.8% sales tax on it? That’s $3,800 on a $100,000 home, etc.
When did this happen? It’s in the health care bill. HUH? Just thought you should know.
SALES TAX GOES INTO EFFECT 2013 (Part of HC Bill). Why 2013? Could it be to come to light
AFTER the 2012 elections?
REAL ESTATE SALES TAX
So, this is “change you can believe in”? Under the new health care bill all real estate
transactions will be subject to a 3.8% Sales Tax. The bulk of these new taxes don’t kick in until 2013 If you sell your $400,000 home, there will be a $15,200 tax. This bill is set to screw the retiring generation who often downsize their homes. Does this stuff make your November and 2012 vote more important? Oh, you weren’t aware this was in the obamacare
bill? Guess what, you aren’t alone. There are more than a few members of Congress that aren’t aware of it either.

SPECIAL REPORT, RODAN MODIFICATION–
I just finished making this back seat. I narrowed an old steel tractor seat, and shaped it to fit the back of my seat, and it mounts to my luggage rack with one 3/8 allen bolt. So far, it gets mixed reviews. Maybe I should pad it.

That’s a reflector off of a bicycle. They were giving tickets around here for NOT having all the required reflectors on motorcycles. Jerks.

No kidding. I had to look it up in the DMV regs, and sure enough, reflectors are required on the sides and back. I originally left the ones on my forks, took off the ones on the sides of the rear fender, and the one off the license plate bracket, then heard about the tickets, and added the one on the back. It just takes one chicken shit cop to fuck things up. hahahaha They were giving tickets for non DOT helmets , again, about a month ago. Guess they need the money. The cops seemed to be picking on the crotch rockets, and leaving the dressers alone.

THE EPA GONE WILD–

Dear Mr. Boen:

Thank you for contacting me about the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). I appreciate the opportunity to respond to you.

Since its origination in 1970, the EPA’s mission has been to preserve our environment and human health through federal regulation. While some of these regulations, such as the Clean Air Act, do protect human health by the regulation of harmful elements in the air, often, the EPA over reaches into Americans’ lives. This abuse of power cannot be tolerated. Just recently, the EPA decided that carbon dioxide was a pollutant and health hazard, and that lead in fishing tackle should be banned. These ridiculous regulations are just two examples of the EPA’s loss of focus on its core issue.

I will work to ensure that the EPA continues its core mission without trampling an individual’s Constitutional rights or inhibiting the growth of our economy.

Thank you again for contacting me. If I can be of any help in the future, please do not hesitate to call upon me.

WEEKEND TECH TIP–
If you are running CV carbs on the MUDFLAP GIRL Evos I strongly suggest this recipe:

Main jet 175 (depending on year and model, this main jet may be already installed)
Low jet 45 H-D P/N 27170-89
XL Needle jet H-D P/N 27094-88 (this is a fully tapered needle as opposed to the later shouldered needle, result is better response, this needle jet is the key factor in any CV mod kit)

Remove diaphragm and slide and drill out the off-centered slide hole with a 1/8″ bit, this allows the slide to fall faster. Install tapered XL needle jet. Reassemble slide and diaphragm.

Install replacement main and low jets.

Drill out CV air mixture adjust plug to access the air screw. Gently turn air screw all the way in until it bottoms out. Turn out 1 full turn as starting point.

Install carb and improved air breather kit. I prefer the Ness Big Sucker kit. It has a clean appearance, and solid installation hardware.

Start bike and allow to warm up. Turn air mixture screw out until engine runs rough. Turn air mixture screw back in until engine smooths out and continue until it runs rough. Proper adjustment is between these two rough points where the engine runs smooth and is responsive.

For reference: http://www.americanrider.com/output.cfm?id=1815121

I experimented with Dyno Jet and SE kits and the plastic high dollar slide. Nothing works as well as this recipe hands down.

ADVICE TO AN OLD GUY–
An old guy was working out in the gym when he spotted a sweet young thing…  He asked the trainer that was near-by, “What machine in here
should I use to impress that sweet thing over there?”  The trainer looked him up and down and said, “I would try the ATM in the lobby.”

These are from a book called Disorder in the American Courts and are things people actually said in court, word for word, taken down and now published by court reporters that had the torment of staying calm while these exchanges were actually taking place.

AGENT ZEBRA LOOKING FOR INVESTORS–
My script, 1%er. Got a very good director attached in writing. Olivier Dahan. Won an Oscar for Best Actress (Marion Cottliard) on his last big film, La Vie en Rose. Sean Penn wants to work with him, among others.

Question: would you want to be a Co-Producer? If so, I need a high-net worth individual/s willing to put in $2,500,000 up front to use pre-produce and make an offer to Benecio Del Torro and/or Sean Penn. I’ve got commitments for overseas worldwide distribution sales from Wild Bunch (you probably don’t know who they are, but they’re very well known and very good). I’ve got commitments for post production from Cineworks in New Orleans, which also enables me to make it a Louisiana film and that gives me access to their 23% tax credit as well (shaves the budget accordingly).

In other words, I’ve got an A-list director. I’ve got backend money. I’ve got overseas sales (the cash register in this business). All I need now is front end money and we’re underway.

I’m pursuing the front end money now, but I thought you might be interested if you happen to know any heavies looking for an investment or a company (Harley?) who would put in the upfront cash for an equity ownership position. Or for example, H-D might do it if they got exclusive for the motorcycles in the film. We could use their Thunder Mountain crew to cut out some nice customs as well.

Hit me.

20,000-MILE ANSWER FOR CANCER Motorcyle TOUR REACHES HALFWAY POINT IN NEW YORK CITY–
Vancouver, BC (July 15, 2011) – After 36 days on the road, the four motorcycle riders on a 65-day ride across North America to promote awareness of cancer prevention, are marking the halfway point in their journey in New York City.

Believing 80-90% of all cancer can be prevented through healthier lifestyle choices, the Answer for Cancer Team members, each with a personal connection to cancer, are riding 20,000 miles on a tour that is taking them to all lower 48 states and each Canadian province.

Along the way, they’re speaking at events along the route, sharing tips on how to mitigate the risk of cancer (see below), and raising funds for the San Francisco-based Breast Cancer Fund. The team has already raised more than $400,000.

Arizona resident and team member Dr. Christina Tondora, aka Dr. T., is a former helicopter avionics test engineer, who quit to become a naturopathic doctor.

“When it comes to cancer, prevention really is the ultimate cure,” said Dr. Tondora. “That’s why we want people to adopt a healthy lifestyle, reduce or eliminate their cancer-causing exposures and seek natural options for cancer prevention and treatment.”

Other team members include Jason Bosa (president/co-founder of the Palladio jewelry store in Vancouver), Lori Losch (a member of the Iron Butt Association, the only woman to complete the Saddle Sore 1000 on a CBR motorcycle and the creator of Stretch Guru Mobile Apps) and Del Ferguson (a former horse breeder and current president of Multitech Industries.) Each team member has been inspired to ride by family members and friends they’ve lost to cancer.

Supporters can make donations online, and motorcycle riders across North America are encouraged to join each day’s stage for a $25 donation. All proceeds go to support cancer prevention.
For more information on the ACT 2011 Tour, making a donation or learning about small lifestyle choices that can make a big difference, visit answerforcancertour.com.

Cruised through Modesto and stopped off to see Danny Ray from Precision Cycles, the builder who is putting a bike together to be raffled off in order to raise money for the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum. The custom fab is supposed to be presented onstage at the Buffalo Chip August 5. I was curious as to where things were and found the guys scrambling to get it ready. The plan is to have the bike ready to ship by July 20.

The wiring is spaghetti, they were waiting on the welder to show up to spark on tabs and work on some other fabrications and they decided to swap out the engines. Parts are still be hunted and donations are welcome. It’s getting down to the nitty gritty, but one thing I do know is that if anyone can pull it together, it’s Danny Ray. I’ll keep you posted as to the progress but I think it’s going to be right down to the wire!

Meanwhile, the Museum website is set up to sell raffle tickets, with all proceeds going directly to the museum so they can get relocated. It’s sad to know all the exhibits that are not seen simply because there’s no room for the displays. This is the history of motorcycles and the people who have contributed to “motorcyclism” as Charlie Brechtel puts it.

Charlie is the moving force and main instigator on this project.

THERE YOU HAVE IT– WILD BROS RACING–
This morning at 8:40 am in Loring, Maine.

Tomorrow we will publish our own 5-Ball Factory Racer feature on Bikernet. It was written, shot and published by Doc Robinson, in Heavy Duty magazine in Australia. And I spoke to Branscombe Richmond last week. Real soon you”mailto:info@answerforcancertour.com>

I”m scrambling back from the shop and TIG welding like a mad dog. I’m learning and writing notes for next week. We have Bill’s Coast to Coast Legislative news to post, Scooter Tramp Scotty reached out to us with another roaming episode, and another chunk of fiction is waiting in the wings.
