I’m burnt. I was standing in the fog and sun in Ventura all day at the annual Ventura Antique Races and Show. This event has been around for 15 years. We hauled my ’48 EL and our ’39 WLDR to the event to show support. Did we win a trophy? Oh Hell no. Don Whalen, the Bikernet Antique guru was on hand with over a half dozen rare bikes belonging to Rich Bunch, Carla Bunch and Whalen. They took all the trophies. We’ll have a full report in a couple of weeks.
That’s why the news is late, goddamnit. Let’s hit it:

A Book From The Past
I came across this book while trying to make some room in the garage. I thought I would share a picture with you. Why a book such as this might be in my possession I cannot say, copyright is from 1970. I remember one of my favorite chapters was Chapter 4 Games.
Here is one of the lines that has stuck with me through the years, “The intellectual level of the games which will be most fun for you when stoned depends on how stoned you are. If you are very very stoned, you might have trouble playing ‘Find Your Foot’ or ‘Peek-a-Boo’.” This seems like good advice to know at the time should you have wished to play one of these games.
The 4th page is very informative also…”Warning! This is not a good book to hollow out and hide pot in.”

Birth Control
After having their 11th child, a Stillwater, Oklahoma couple decided 11 was enough, as they could not afford a larger bed. So the husband went to his veterinarian and told him that he and his cousin didn’t want to have any more children.
The doctor told him that there was a procedure called a vasectomy that could fix the problem but that it was expensive. A less costly alternative, said the doctor, was to go home, get a cherry bomb (fireworks are legal on the Oklahoma State Campus), light it, put it in an empty beer can, then hold the can up to his ear and count to 10.
The redneck said to the doctor, “I may not be the smartest man in the world, but I don’t see how putting a cherry bomb in a beer can next to my ear is going to help me.”
“Trust me, ” said the doctor.
So the man went home, lit a cherry bomb and put it in a beer can. He held the can up to his ear and began to count:
“1”
“2”
“3”
“4”
“5”
At which point he paused, placed the beer can between his legs, and resumed counting on his other hand.
This procedure also works in Kentucky, Mississippi, West Virginia, Arkansas and parts of Texas.

Reader’s Show Case Contestant
Here’s is a couple shots of my bike. It is a Donnie Smith XTR frame, 5-inch stretch, 38 degree rake. It has 100-inch Revtech power plant, inverted front end, of course done in my favorite cooler flat black.
You wouldn’t happen to know anyone who has used a Donnie Smith frame before have you? I am having trouble figuring out how the passenger pegs mount up.
let me know what you think.
–Doughboy
Man, I thought this was a Reader’s Showcase entry. You know you can post your own feature on Bikernet. Regarding the rear pegs, all framed don’t come with passenger peg mounts. Take a look around. You can weld tabs in several different configurations.

First Big Bear Show Rocks

THE HISTORICAL ORIGIN OF “THE FINGER”
This is not meant to be crude. It is strictly for your edification and enjoyment. Before the Battle of Agincourt in 1415, the French, anticipating victory over the English, proposed to cut off the middle finger of all captured English soldiers. Without the middle finger, it would be impossible to draw the renowned English longbow and therefore be incapable of fighting in the future.
This famous weapon was made of the native English Yew tree, and the act of drawing the longbow was known as “plucking the yew.” Much to the bewilderment of the French, the English won a major upset and began mocking the French by waving their middle fingers at the defeated French, saying, “See, we can still pluck yew! PLUCK YEW!”
Over the years, some ‘folk etymologies’ have grown up around this symbolic gesture. Since ‘pluck yew’ is rather difficult to say (like “pleasant mother pheasant plucker”, which is who you had to go to for the feathers used on the arrows for the longbow), the difficult consonant cluster at the beginning has gradually changed to a labiodental fricative ‘F’, and thus the words often used in conjunction with the one-finger-salute are mistakenly thought to have something to do with an intimate encounter. It is also because of the pheasant feathers on the arrows that the symbolic gesture is known as “giving the bird.”
Are you not thrilled that you have someone out there that will send you educational stuff like this?

Wrong Question
A man took his wife to the State Fair and one of the exhibits is that of breeding bulls.
They went up to the first pen and there was a sign that said, “This bull mated 50 times last year.”
The wife poked her husband in the ribs and said, “He mated 50 times last year.”
They walked a little further and saw another pen with a sign that said, “This bull mated 120 times last year.”
The wife hit her husband and said, “That’s more than twice a week! You could learn a lot from him.”
They walked further and a third pen had a bull with a sign saying, “This bull mated 365 times last year.”
The wife got really excited and said, “That’s once a day. You could REALLY learn something from this one.”
The husband looked at her and said, “Go up and ask him if it was with the same cow.”

Motorcycle World–England
Here are some pics from the Motorcycle World 2003 held at Beaulieu, England this week end.
There was even an awsome V-Rod trike if you had a cool $45,000 to spare. But as you will see we brits take our partying seriously with one bike carrying the essential supply of beer.
Ride Safe, Ride Free
–The Ferryman

That’s it–I’m fried. I’m gonna kick back and have a jack. I just received a shot of the 1928 Shovel that was built by Rick Fairless, at the formerly Dallas Easyriders. Now it’s Rick’s Strokers Of Dallas. Next week we’ll put together a tech on the exhaust system. The bike is up and running.

We are also hammering on the Custom Chrome 100-inch Goliath. It’s coming together fast. Here’s the concept illustration. This bike is being built to support the Beach Ride for the Exceptional Children’s foundation, on September 7th. Don’t miss it.

I’ve got to knock off before I tumble onto the hardwood floor. Have a helluva week. We’ll have lots to report after the Hawaiian show.
Ride Forever,
