Sunday lead

Happy Fathers’ Day Goddamnit,

My son still doesn’t speak to me. Something about selling his mother into white slavery, dealing drugs for a living for 35 years out of the family whorehouse. I don’t know what upset him, but we’ve got news to cover, girls to chase, bikes to build and adventures comin’ up. Hang on:

YOUNG MAN, WILLING AND ABLE– I am looking for a unique and fun way to support my family. I am willing to sell advertising space on the sides of my shaved head. I would be willing to attend any functions that we agree upon. I know Golden Palace has paid for head advertisements, but that was for a short period of time and then the person let their hair grow back.

I have been shaving my head for 6 years, and do not plan to let it grow back. I am also willing to travel and attend events of your choosing. I have pictures of the tattoos that are currently on my head. (one is a checkered flag going into flames) I have just welcomed my 4th child, (and one stepchild) and I am looking for a better way to give them all a better future, and thought this would be something fun, interesting, and defiantly different to do to support them all! I am also a BIG MOTORCYCLE!!

BIKERNET RELIGIOUS CORRESPONDENT REPORTS ON AL-ZARQAWI– After his death, Al-Zarqawi went to heaven. There, he was greeted by George Washington, who proceeded to slap him across his face and yell at him, “How dare you try to destroy the nation I helped conceive!”

Patrick Henry approached and punched Al-Zarqawi in the nose and shouted, “You wanted to end our liberties but you failed.”

James Madison entered, kicked Al-Zarqawi in the groin and said, “This is why I allowed our government to provide for the common defense!”

Thomas Jefferson came in and proceeded to beat Al-Zarqawi many times with a long cane and said, “it was evil men like you that provided me the inspiration to pen the Declaration of Independence!”

These beatings and thrashings continued as John Rudolph, James Monroe and 66 other early Americans came in and unleashed their anger on the Muslim terrorist leader.

As Al-Zarqawi lay bleeding and writhing in unbearable pain, an Angel appeared. Al-Zarqawi wept and said to the Angel, “This is not what you promised me!

“The Angel replied, “I told you there would be 72 VIRGINIANS waiting for you in heaven. What did you think I said?”

SKUNK DOTS BIKER NEWS LOSES JINGLES– For those of you that do not know, Skunk Dots Biker News is owned by Jennifer Tingay and her husband Jingles ( Orville Mitchell). Last week Jingles had to have a leg amputated. Due to complications resulting from the surgery, Jingles passed away last night.

I spoke to Jennifer by phone a few minutes ago and she said Jingles will be at Aldine Funeral Chapel 9504 Airline Highway in Houston. Funeral services will be mid week.

For ten years now the couple has struggled to keep Texas’ Original Biker News afloat even selling their two motorcycles a few years ago to stay in business. Jennifer & Jingles have helped many, many biker benefits by running free ads and stories basically doing what they could to help bikers in need or down on their luck. At this time it is Jennifer who needs help and support from all of us. Besides dealing with the cost of the funeral she needs help getting her son home for the funeral from California. So we are asking each of you to contribute what you can afford.

Please make your check out to Jennifer Tingay & mail your contribution to;

NY DMV COMMISSIONER CALLS TO INATTENTIVE DRIVERS– It’s a new public service announcement which should help motorcyclists be seen.

Newly appointed New York DMV Commissioner Nancy Naples appears on the sidewalk after a nasty, and quite graphic, car/motorcycle ROW violation, telling viewers, “Motorcycle accidents aren’t accidents at all, too many are crashes caused by inattentive drivers who just pull into oncoming traffic with little more than a glance. QUESTION ABOUT HALEBOB SWINGARM MODIFICATION– The halebob swingarm is advertised to a) Take tyres up to 250 – this is not so as the belt will not fit between the frame and the tyre.
b) Use the original belt. The oiriginal belt for a 2001 deuce is 135 teeth – – this is far too long for the halebob. It needs a 130 belt.
Those differences have cost me about $500 so far. Does anyone know any different.

GIRL OF BIKERNET TEXAS CORRESPONDENT CHECKS IN–I have several young ladies interested in doing some GOB work once we can work out all the details. Mainly them showing up.

I think Jen & Trouble (shamrock bike) would make a good GOB, but we are trying to get Greg (STREET CHOPPER) to respond about it for Street Chopper, I am also trying to get some feedback from him on this 69 BSA I found at the ROT. I have not shot it yet, but it is very clean. Check out the pipes. It may not be what he’s after, but thought I would ask first since it is impossible to get any type of reply from anyone at the Horse! Three times (since late ’04) I have sent that one brown bike they wanted and three times I have not heard shit. Are they really that unorganized?

Back at Camp Pflugerville for the weekend, I am suppose to shoot some images of a restored Triumph that is being submitted it to the motorcycle museum for consideration for entry, looks like that will be later this month though.

Hey, shoot the Triumph for Bikernet. You’re problem with the mags is mention two competing mags in the same paragraph. It’s against the code of the west.–Bandit

AMERICAN MOTORCYCLE ASSOCIATION REQUEST– Has your health care insurance been denied? If so, then let the AMA know. Earlier this year hundreds of workers at the American Coal Company mine in Galatia, Illinois, were denied health-care coverage for motorcycle-related injuries.

At American Coal, if a worker is injured riding a legally licensed motorcycle on the street, there’s no medical coverage. Even if the injury is caused by another driver, the rider could lose. He’d be entirely dependent on the other driver’s insurance coverage. And these days, medical bills can quickly overwhelm minimum-coverage policies-if the other driver even has insurance.

The AMA is backing measures in Congress to bar employers from discriminating against motorcyclists and ATV riders in the health-care arena. We need your help in this fight.

We need to know if your employer-provided health insurance refuses to cover ATV-related injuries. You don’t know? Now is the time to find out, before you get in a crash. Check your policies for “exclusions” that may say motorcycle-related injuries aren’t covered. Or ask your plan administrator.

And if you find that you are not covered on your machine by your medical plan, let us know. We need to know the name and address of the company, the name of the health plan. And if you were hurt and the medical plan wouldn’t cover the costs, we need to know the details. We need concrete examples to take to Congress to show lawmakers that health discrimination against motorcyclists is happening, is crippling financially, and is intolerable.

You can e-mail the information to Legal Affairs Editor Bill Kresnak at bkresnak@ama-cycle.org or mail the info to him at AMA, 13515 Yarmouth Dr., Pickerington, OH 43147.

STEELERS QUARTERBACK BEN ROETHLISBERGER’S CRASH– HARRISBURG — Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger’s motorcycle crash yesterday sparked debate among football fans and bikers alike about whether a helmet law would have diminished the Super Bowl star’s injuries.

It did not, however, reignite debate in the state Legislature, which in 2003 repealed a 35-year-old helmet requirement.

“These types of accidents happen every day across Pennsylvania and the U.S.,” said Sen. Jay Costa, D-Forest Hills. “Although this was a high-profile celebrity, I don’t think it will push the Legislature to repeal the existing law that makes helmet use optional. I don’t think we will revisit the issue.”

Current state law allows bikers over 21 to ride bareheaded if they have at least two years riding experience or have taken a rider education course.

The Alliance of Bikers Aimed Toward Education wants to keep it that way.

“It’s about freedom of choice,” said Jeff Harris, president of the group’s Beaver County chapter.

“Helmets are a piece of safety equipment that, under the right circumstances, can protect you,” he said. “There’s been talk about whether helmets might contribute to neck injuries, but there hasn’t been a conclusive study.”

Mr. Harris, of Freedom, bikes year-round but wears a helmet only on the coldest winter days.

“It’s comfy then, but on a hot summer day or even a nice day like today I don’t even bring it,” he said.

Gov. Ed Rendell believes adult bikers like Mr. Harris should have that choice.

“Deciding not to wear a helmet is a poor choice, but it’s your choice nonetheless,” said Mr. Rendell’s spokeswoman, Kate Philips. “The governor believes in personal freedom.”

— By Tracie Mauriello, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Actually there have been studies that prove that helmets hinder safe riding, giver riders a false sense of security and enhance neck injuries.–Bandit

A FOUL-MOUTHED COLLABORATION– The pipes you have come to swear by are even more accessible to V-twin enthusiasts. Doug Keim Creative Cycles’ (DKCC) incredibly popular L.M.F. (Loud Mother *ucker) and M.M.F.s (Muzzled Mother *uckers) exhaust pipes can now be fitted to Bourget motorcycles. The L.M.F. is down and dirty loud featuring stepped headpipes merging into a huge outlet. But if you’re looking to avoid unwanted (and expensive) attention from law enforcement, the M.F.F. gives you the same wicked external appearance as the L.M.F. with a non-removable steel baffle.

These pipes are made of heavy-gauge steel for durable strength and to reduce chances of discoloration if chromed. That means they can take whatever your bike dishes out-be it a Bourget, any H-D big twin model and most custom applications including right-side drive models, as long as the bike has forward controls.

Doug Keim Creative Cycles’ L.M.F. and M.M.F.s are available in raw finish, but full finish is available as a custom order.

MICHIGAN HOUSE PASSES HELMET REPEAL– Mich. House Passes Controversial Motorcycle Helmet Repeal Bill Today http://www.insurancejournal.com/news/midwest/2006/06/07/69237.htm June 7, 2006 With hundreds of motorcycle riders outside the Capitol, the Michigan state House today passed a controversial repeal of a mandate for riders to wear helmets.

The legislation passed by a 66-37 vote and is awaiting the signature of Gov. Jennifer Granholm. Insurance Journal contacted the Governor’s office and her spokesperson Liz Boyd said that “the Governor supports the current helmet law and does not support the repeal.” Boyd would not comment further and did not say whether the Governor will, in fact, veto the bill.

Several previous efforts at overturning the law requiring all motorcyclists to wear a helmet have failed. The Michigan mandate has been in place for 37 years.

Essentially the bill would allow riders 21 and older to go without helmets if they have been licensed to operate a motorcycle for at least two years or have taken a safety course. An additional requirement would mandate that riders carry at least $10,000 in personal injury protection insurance.

Those supporting the legislation such as ABATE say motorcyclists should have the freedom to ride without a helmet. At least 30 other states, including some in the Midwest, give adults the option to not wear a helmet. Organizations that oppose the legislation see the issue from a different perspective, saying not wearing helmets lead to more deaths and injuries, which will lead to higher medical bills and insurance rates.

AVON TYRES QUESTION OF THE WEEK– What’s the best way to reduce cupping (scalloping) on your front tire?

Cupping is a natural result of braking. When a rider brakes (and most bikes are designed to use the front more than the rear brake for effective braking) that depresses the leading edge of the tire. Each time the time is depressed, it shoves the rubber backwards. After many revolutions it is possible to see the cupping effect. And once you have cupping it’s not a fun ride as your bike bounces around with the uneven tread surface of the tire.

slide one

Three things a rider can do to help reduce this effect; 1) tire pressure is critical – check your pressure every time you ride and make sure you have an accurate gauge.
2) consult the tire manufacturer to ensure you have the correct tire pressure for your riding conditions
3) choose a tread design that is resistant to cupping – generally a tire with more minimal grooving but that still disperses water effectively. The more grooves in a tire the more the blocks of rubber move around whereas a big block of rubber does not.
Avon’s Venom front tires are very resistant to cupping due to their bigger blocks of rubber.

THE ART OF FRONT FORK DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY– INTRODUCING THE GAMBLER GIRDER “G2”– The one component that completes your custom bike and sets it apart from the rest is the style of the front forks. The choices of style are basically a “springer” or a tube type front fork. That is, UNTIL NOW?

We at Gambler Motorcycle Company are proud to introduce “THE GAMBLER ‘G2’? GIRDER”

The girder style front suspension that is not only timeless in design and beauty but technologically superior in ride and handling as well. The “STATE OF THE ART” G2 utilizes the latest progressive, coil over “gas cell” shock technology with “velocity sensitive” hydraulically damped shock absorbers, much like current exotic sports car front suspension. Manufactured from the finest “Aviation Grade” 4130 Chromoly Steel, the ‘G2’ is engineered and designed with the latest cad/cam “aerospace” technology and equipment. “Old School” or “New School”, the Gambler ‘G2’ girder completes your custom bike with the ultimate ride and style.

Set your custom bike apart from the rest and ride the best! Ride the ‘G2’ Gambler Girder; Custom ordered in any length and for all American, Metric, V-twin custom motorcycles.

MAGNETS IN EXHAUST SYSTEMS SNAKEOIL–Ain’t it funny how some brands of snake oil just never go completely away? The magnets trip has been around from at least the ’50s, though I haven’t seen anyone trying to sell that bag of lies in quite awhile.

I think if anything like this were true, all the big guy’s would be selling it in their cars. More power and less emissions would let them sell those big SUV’s without the penalties they currently have to pay for both the high emissions and bad mileage.

Smells a bit to me.

Enough of this bullshit. Let’s party.
