THE GENEVIEVE SCHMIDT SHIFT–I’ve been riding motorcycles on the street for 20 years. This August I’m trying something different and venturing off road on a dual-sport ride in Colorado to raise money for a breast cancer charity and a gynecological cancers charity – something I’m passionate about. I’m very excited to be doing this because I’ve never done a charity ride of this magnitude. I’m spreading my proverbial life experience wings — and I’m hoping you can help me make it happen.
I have to raise $2,000 to participate in this ride – and I’m half way to my goal as I write this email. Every little bit helps and that’s why I’m reaching out to you. I’m asking for a donation of just $10 or $15. You can donate by credit card or check – it’s very easy and can be done by visiting www.firstgiving.com/genevieveschmitt.
Thanks for letting me into your day by reading this. I sincerely appreciate what you can do for me to help me reach my goal.
A full report on my ride with both video and photos can be found on my Web site, http://www.WomenRidersNow.com

BIKERNET FAMILY COUNSELING SEMINAR– It is important for men to remember that, as women grow older, it becomes harder for them to maintain the same quality of housekeeping as when they were younger. When you notice this, try not to yell at them. Some are oversensitive, and there’s nothing worse than an oversensitive woman.
My name is Bob. Let me relate how I handled the situation with my wife, Debbie. When I took “early retirement” last year, it became necessary for Debbie to get a full-time job along with her part time job, both for extra income and for the health benefits that we needed. Shortly after she started working, I noticed she was beginning to show her age.
I usually get home from the golf course about the same time she gets home from work. Although she knows how hungry I am, she almost always says she has to rest for half an hour or so before she starts dinner. I don’t yell at her. Instead, I tell her to take her time and just wake me when she gets dinner on the table. I generally have lunch in the Men’s Grill at the club so eating out is not reasonable. I’m ready for some home cooked grub when I hit that door.
She used to do the dishes as soon as we finished eating. But now it’s not unusual for them to sit on the table for several hours after dinner. I do what I can by diplomatically reminding her several times each evening that they won’t clean themselves. I know she really appreciates this, as it does seem to motivate her to get them done before she goes to bed.
Another symptom of aging is complaining, I think. For example she will say that it is difficult for her to find time to pay the monthly bills during her lunch hour. But, boys, we take ’em for better or worse, so I just smile and offer encouragement. I tell her to stretch it out over two or even three days. That way she won’t have to rush so much. I also remind her that missing lunch completely now and then wouldn’t hurt her any (if you know what I mean). I like to think tact is one of my strong points.
When doing simple jobs, she seems to think she needs more rest periods. She had to take a break when she was only half finished mowing the yard. I try not to make a scene. I’m a fair man. I tell her to fix herself a nice, big, cold glass of freshly squeezed lemonade and just sit for a while. And, as long as she is making one for herself, she may as well make one for me too.
I know that I probably look like a saint in the way I support Debbie. I’m not saying that showing this much consideration is easy. Many men will find it difficult. Some will find it impossible! Nobody knows better than I do how frustrating women get as they get older. However, guys, even if you just use a little more tact and less criticism of your aging wife because of this article, I will consider that writing it was well worthwhile. After all, we are put on this earth to help each other.
Signed,
— Bob

D&D EXHAUST PUTS COLOR IN YOUR LIFE & ON YOUR BAGGER–Do you feel that you are living in a Black & White world? Is everything just a little drab? Do you need a little excitement, Bunkie?
If you said yes to any of these questions then you should be thinking D&D Performance Exhaust. D&D build exhaust pipes that not only look good but will plaster a grin on your face with the added horsepower and torque.
Doug Lineback wrote in at D&D and said, ?Got my Fat Cat on my birthday last week for my 2009 Road Glide. Note how the pipe really sets the bike off. This is the 3rd FatCat pipe on the last three bikes we have owned!?
But Wait There?s More ? D&D?s BOSS Fat Cat kit includes a D&D 2 into 1pipe along with a Zipper’s air cleaner? it produces a whopping 15% increase in HP, 15% increase in Torque.
At idle, the motorbike exhaust is deep and boomy and full of character… just the way you want it. And once you crack the throttle the sweet basso-profundo notes just keep on getting better. — GET MORE DETAILS AT D&D Bagger Central.

SHOWBIKE 2009 RICHIE H. FROM FL– I was born in Freeport, Long Island, New York and at the age of 12 saw my first motorcycle club, Hell’s Angels ride by and that’s all it took, I was hooked! Shortly after I started building bicycles with engines in them, and one after another I built them bigger, better, faster.
By the time I was 20, I had saved enough money to buy my first motorcycle, a 1961 Harley-Davidson Panhead, paid $2000.00 for it. Over the years I had rebuilt the engine, transmission, rewired and refined every part on that bike.
The only things I did not do was paint and chrome as I sent these out to be done. I moved to Florida in 1999 (too cold in N.Y.) and decided to make it a show bike. The awards and trophies I’ve won over the year’s makes the experience and building time all worth it. It’s become a part of me, and my life.
I’m retired now and the enjoyment I get from people looking at the workmanship and detail in this machine is just amazing.
Now a bit about this bike-82′ stroker(3.5×4.25)Truit&Osbourn flywheels, S&S heavyduty rods and KeithBlack 9.5to1 Pistons. Exhust’s are 1.75″ Gooseneck drag pipes (no baffel’s). Andrews B cam, chromemoly pushrods by S&S, and solid lifters.
PanHeads are ported and polished by me, valves are Black Diamond with Sifton spring’s and retainer’s.The polished carb is a vintage S&S Super B (early 1970’s). The oil pump is also polished and HV by S&S and it all run’s thru a 05 Buell oil cooler mounted on the left front.
This is not just a showbike, I ride 10K a year and there is nothing more than I rather do than ride and show. I would like to thank everyone for the time and help they have given.

Woman-owned Houston Kawasaki Store Awarded Multi-million Military Contract–When Shannon Tracy, the owner of UV Country Kawasaki in Houston, found out that the United States Special Operations Command was searching for a tough new tactical vehicle, she made a bid to provide the SOCOM with a large number of Kawasaki Teryx RUVs.
Having provided units to the military in June 2008, Tracyfigured the Teryx was an excellent choice for the military’s requirements for something tough, lightweight, quick and agile.
The military decided on the 2009 Teryx after conducting extensive research and numerous evaluations of everything from regular utility vehicles to expensive custom fabricated equipment.
Tracy’s efforts have paid off.Following the final round of evaluations, SOCOM awarded a contract worth up to $28,390,453 to UV Country. The woman-owned-small-business is scheduled to deliver up to 1,625 units over a five-year period under what’s called an indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract. This type of contract provides for an indefinite quantity of supplies or services during a fixed period of time.

TORIAN LEATHER AND BIKERNET TESTIMONIAL LETTER–Just wanted to drop you a line and thank you for turning me on to Torian Leathers. I saw the ad on Bikernet and was interested in buying a Leather Workshirt. I called and left a message. Jeff called me back a few days later. We ended up jaw jacking for about twenty minutes.
I told him I’ve known you for over thirty years and he said he had just spent a time on the phone with you that day. Jeff and I both have Armenian backrounds so he told me an interesting story. It seems that a few years back Jeff went to the Sacramento Mile bike races. He worked a deal to get in the pits by trading a Hot Wheels #98 Agajanian car for a pit pass. The guy he traded with is my cousin, Chris Agajanian! We got a good laugh on that one.
I’m looking forward to getting my new leather from Jeff. He wants me to send him a picture of me on my scoot wearing his jacket when I get it. Cool. I also have spoken to Chris Kallas, I bought a print of a nice Panhead chopper from him. We got to talking and I mentioned that you had run a picture of my scoot from the Grand National Show, and he said, “You mean the orange one with the goldleaf flames?”
I was blown away. I also found a magnifying glass size picture of me and my bro’s on MCart at one of the first MMA toy runs from Griffith Park to Pasadena, you were probably there too.
Oh, before I split I also wanted to thank you for spilling your guts about how our hearts (and bodies) change when we get up to and past the big “six-0”. We are blessed to still be vertical and speaking semi-coherently at this age. The young guys need to hear it so they can hopefully save some for later.
I’m enjoying the Motorcycle and Hot Rod/Custom stuff as much if not more now than when we lived our lives at 100MPH non-stop. Remember, “Old age and treachery overcome youth and enthusiasm every time!” Back in the neighborhood we called them the old vatos, the veteranos, now we are them. Thanks for Bikernet and for being my brother,
God Bless you,
–ROSS

KTM Withdraws from Dakar Rally–KTM says it will no longer be represented at the Dakar rally, as of late held in South America, either with an official factory team or a KTM-supported team following the organizing body’s decision to allow only bikes with a maximum displacement of 450cc.
The Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO), organizers of the “South American Dakar” made the decision today, June 4. The new rule goes into effect for the next race, in January 2010.
While professionals and past champions who planned to ride larger machines will be allowed only on the smaller bikes in 2010, the ASO says amateurs planning to ride larger machines will be forced to use a “bridle” to limit performance “to the level of the 450cc.”
Here’s what else the ASO has to say: “For several years, more and more of the top bikers have won specials or finished in the leading ten overall positions using under 450cc bikes. Financially more accessible and more reliable than the older bikes of the previous generations and now more adapted to the demands of off-road rallies, the 450cc still have a deficit in performance that prevent them from reaching even higher ambitions. This difference will be totally erased for the 2011 Dakar, during which only bikes with engines under 450cc will be accepted.”
KTM has enjoyed eight consecutive victories in the world-renowned rally event. A KTM communiqu? suggests the ASO’s change to the rules was designed to end the dominance of KTM and came without any advance warning.
“Every sport regulation needs changes and adjustments to new developments to retain an interest in it, but this also requires the appropriate lead times,” says KTM Motor Sport Advisor Heinz Kinigadner. “We have the entire material for the 690 Rally motorcycles for our factory team as well as that for 50 customers’ motorcycles in our storage facility ready to be constructed in June. Riders’ contracts have been finalized and all the team members have been engaged.”
Following the decision for the deployment of 450cc motorcycles, which KTM calls “unthinkably unsuitable” for use in long distance rallies, the OEM says it can no longer economically justify a commitment to be engaged in the Dakar in the future.
“The financial consequences that results from this decision are enormous,” Kinigadner says. “Quite apart from this, we are shocked by the organizer’s lack of loyalty above all, because of the huge efforts we made following the cancellation of the Dakar in 2008 by contributing to the new edition ? even during a period of extreme economic crisis.”
KTM riders Marc Coma and Cyril Despres finished the rally in first and second places, respectively, at the 2009 South American Dakar.

Proner & Proner File Suit Against N.Y.S. Police for Illegally Stopping Bikers– NEW YORK, NY ? (Marketwire) ? 06/08/09 ? Proner & Proner, Attorneys at law, have filed a Federal class action lawsuit in the Federal Court for the Northern District of New York against the New York State Police as well as New York State and county authorities to stop them from conducting motorcycle-only roadblocks near popular motorcycle events.
Last year the New York State Police and county sheriffs stopped every motorcycle en route to twelve different events for “safety checks.” With the riding season starting, the New York State Police expect to conduct up to fifteen motorcycle-only roadblocks throughout the state this year. The events targeted include Americade in Lake George, the largest motorcycle event in the Northeast.
Mitchell Proner, an active motorcyclist and personal injury attorney, is initiating the lawsuit on behalf of all motorcyclists. Mr. Proner said that the New York State Police “uses the pretense of safety inspections to delay and harass motorcyclists without any reasonable belief that any laws are being broken.” Although courts have upheld DWI checkpoints as generally permissible, “These motorcycle roadblock stops are lengthy and do not address any legitimate safety concerns,” according to Mr. Proner.

QUOTE FROM BIKERNET MBA PROGRAM– A man owned a small chopper shop, The Department of Labor claimed he was not paying proper wages to his staff and sent a representative out to interview him.
I need a list of your employees and how much you pay them,’ demanded the rep.
‘Well, replied the owner, ‘there’s my wrench hand who’s been with me for 3 years, I pay him $400 a week plus free room and board. The cook/receptionist has been here for 8 years, and I pay her $250 per week plus free room and board. Then there’s the half-wit. He works about 18 hours every day and does about 90% of all the work around here. He makes about $50 per week, pays his own room and board, and I buy him a bottle of whiskey every Saturday night. He also sleeps with my wife the cook/receptionist occasionally.
That’s the guy I want to talk to…the half-wit, says the agent.
That would be me, replied the shop owner.
