94.1 KMPS Welcomes:JAKE OWENWith Special GuestsBACKFIRE BAND– JAKE OWEN to ?YEE HAW? the Napavine Amphitheater and its been a long time coming. My dad had always wanted to be a professional golfer, and he could have been, but life andresponsibilities prevented him from pursuing that dream. He told me that if this was my dream, and if itwere my gift, them I should go for it, and that I had their blessing.?

Two days later, Owen packed his clothes, some furnishings, his two guitars and a notebook full of songsinto his Forerunner and headed north. ?I didn?t know anyone in Nashville, but I knew I needed to go to theplace where it happens. I found an apartment in Bellevue, about 10 miles from town.

That first week, Ibasically stayed in my apartment writing songs.?When he finally made his first visit to Music Row, it wasn?t to a record label, or a publisher, or amanagement office. It was to open a bank account, a deposit that ultimately reaped immeasurableinterest and dividends. ?When Becky (the bank employee) asked me what I did for a living, I told her I wasa singer/songwriter.

She said she would like to hear my music sometime; luckily, I just happened to havea CD,? he says with a laugh. The following day, he got a phone call from Warner-Chappell Music, expressing interest in his material. Though that arrangement did not ultimately work out, Owen felt thathis decision to pursue a career in Nashville has been validated. A chance meeting over lunch withproducer Jimmy Ritchey (Clay Walker, Mark Chesnutt and Jimmy was raised in Centralia WA) confirmedit.

?We just hit it off right away,? he says. ?We became friends first. But he was very supportive. For thenext 18 months, we basically hung out, writing songs. I hardly even went out of my apartment. I wrote asong with Jimmy and Chuck Jones called Ghost that we thought Kenny Chesney was going to record. Hedidn?t, but that sort of put me on the RCA radar. Jimmy got me together with Renee Bell, Senior VicePresident for SonyBMG Nashville and she signed me.? Less than two years after moving to Nashville, the24-year-old former golfer had a recording deal and basically brought a finished album to the table.

HINES RIDES HARLEY-DAVIDSON TO NHRA FINALS AT SONOMA–Krawiec and Hines Face Off in Semi-Final Round; Hines Builds Series Points Lead

SONOMA, CALIF. (July 27, 2008) ? Screamin? Eagle/Vance & Hines rider Andrew Hines advanced to the final round of Pro Stock Motorcycle eliminations at the Fram/Autolite NHRA Nationals at Infineon Raceway. In his fourth final-round appearance of the season, Hines lost to Rocklin Motorsports Buell rider Matt Guidera, but added to his overall lead in NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series season points. Screamin? Eagle/Vance & Hines rider Eddie Krawiec advanced to the semi-final round before losing to Hines.

Aboard a Harley-Davidson V-Rod motorcycle, Hines qualified in the sixth position for the Sunday Pro Stock Motorcycle elimination rounds with a time of 7.033 seconds. Krawiec qualified his Screamin? Eagle V-Rod seventh at 7.036 seconds. Karen Stoffer rode the Geico Suzuki to the top qualifying spot with a 6.962 pass.

Hines opened eliminations with a red-light win against Hector Arana in the first round, and a victory in round two over his closest rival in season points, NitroFish Buell rider Matt Smith, who had a mechanical problem during his run.

Krawiec defeated Team Tigue Suzuki rider Craig Treble in the first round, and won in round two when the motorcycle ridden by Chris Rivas broke at the starting line. In the round three race between the Screamin? Eagle/Vance & Hines teammates, Hines left the line with a reaction time of just 0.006 on his way to a pass of 7.055 to beat the 0.039/7.097 run posted by Krawiec.

In the final, Hines lost at the light with a 0.050/7.026 run to the 0.018/7.054 pass by Guidera, who crossed the line with a .0045-second margin of victory.

?I really cut it close at the start against Eddie, so maybe that was on my mind and I watched the yellow just a little too long in the final,? said Hines. ?But all the way down the track I thought that I would catch Guidera, especially after the 7.125 run he?d made in the semi-finals. But he beat me by about the thickness of my front tire.?

Beating Smith in the second round was a highlight of the day for Hines.

?I thought it would be tough to beat Smith,? said Hines. ?That win not only helped us in the points, it let us run some rounds back-to-back today and really work on our tune-up. I think we?ll be racing with real momentum in the second half of the season.?

Krawiec raced to the semi-final round of eliminations for the third consecutive NHRA race weekend.

?It?s good to be consistent, because we keep scoring points,? said Krawiec. ?I guess I dropped back one position to sixth in the points, but we gained ground on the teams ahead of us, and now there are less than 20 points between sixth and fourth. We?ll have a real opportunity to move up before the U.S. Nationals at Indy.?

After nine rounds in the 2008 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, Hines leads the Pro Stock Motorcycle class with 762 points. Smith is 76 points back in second place with 686 points, followed by Chip Ellis with 644 points, Rivas with 569, Guidera with 563 and Krawiec in sixth place with 554. NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycles will race next August 7-10 at the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals at Brainerd International Raceway, Brainerd, Minn.

BUELL launch 1125CR–BUELL has debuted its 2009 model range with the launch of the 1125CR. It is described by the East Troy, Wisconsin company as “a modern interpretation of ‘caf? racer’ styling” and utilizes the Buell Helicon 1125 liquid-cooled V-Twin engine. It is one of nine models from Buell covering sports, Streetfighter and adventure bikes.

“Part superbike and part Streetfighter, the 1125CR is my vision of a 21st century caf? racer,” said Erik Buell, Chairman and Chief Technical Officer of Buell Motorcycle Company. “It’s got Clubman style bars and a fly screen instead of a fairing. Then we geared it down to optimize acceleration. With a class-leading weight-to-horsepower ratio, the 1125CR takes Streetfighter performance to a new level.”

The second bike in the sportbike range is the 1125R, which uses the same Helicon engine as the 1125CR. For 2009 it is available in new body and wheel colors and with tinted windscreens.

Completing the sport range is the Firebolt XB12R, with a new blacked-out frame, swingarm, powertrain, forks and other components. It also features new high-performance Pirelli Diablo Corsa III tires for ’09.In the Streetfighter range the XB Lightning XB12Ss and XB12Scg are powered by the Thunderstorm 1203 engine and gain Buell ZTL2 front brake with four-pad, eight-piston caliper, a design that debuted on the 1125R in 2008. The XB9SX has its seat lowered by 1.3in to 30.1in.

Making up the adventure sportbike line-up are the Ulysses XB12XT, Ulysses XB12X, and Ulysses Police XB12XP. The latter is a ‘special duty’ motorcycle intended for government agencies and private security firms. It is supplied with a special wiring harness for easy installation of an ‘Emergency Response Kit’, which includes special compact, hard-shell top and side cases, a siren and LED police pursuit lamps.

Buell Blast completes the 2009 range and is powered by a 34hp, 492cc single-cylinder engine. For 2009, the Blast is offered in new Sunfire Yellow and Midnight Black, both with Stardust Silver wheels.www.harley-davidson.com
