Hey,
Half the world of Biking is fired up and on their way to the Badlands. Sixteen mad outlaws from Australia landed at LAX (Los Angeles International Airport) on Thursday and stormed aboard the Bikernet Shuttle bus heading toward Wilmington.

You’ve seen “bad” in America, but never anything like the menacing, Kangaroo eating criminals from down under. Some of the riders stole rentals from Eagle Riders and others stormed the Harley-Davidson fleet center demanding bikes. When Allan hid in the head, they came at us at Bikernet. Snake was too drunk and afraid to even speak. He handed them keys to the ’03 King and ’04 Sportster and ran to the bar.
We tried to give them directions to Big Bear Choppers, but they refused. “We ride on the left,” Doc said, from Heavy Duty Magazine. “We don’t need your stinkin’ directions.” They blasted out of the Bikernet International Galactic headquarter hell bent to meet the Aussie who owns Big Bear and begin their incessant complaints about unruly, uneducated Americans. As it turned out they rode for over 7 hours and peeled through three tanks of gas, nearly 500 miles and never got out of town. “We figured our rate of speed was 12.5 mph,” Glenn said staring at his feet and chewing on a chunk of seat leather. “We might ask for directions next time.”
We figured they’re leaving for Sturgis tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. and will reach the Badlands in October about time for Halloween and the first snowfall. Let’s hit the news:

STURGIS RUN AND THE DENVER QUESTION–Thursday while sittin’ around the firehouse waitin’ on the next alarm to come in, I called a few buds who are ridin’ to Sturgis with me. I was tryin to figure out how to go around Denver, due to the new unfair noise law), so I called my sister inlaw who lives in Hilands ranch, which is out side of Denver and asked her to email me a map to go around.
After I got the email, I said the hell with it and called the Denver PD. I talked to a real nice cop who told me they don’t even have any decibel readers, so it will be hard to write tickets for loud pipes. He also said if we are just ridin’ through and not screwin’ around downtown rackin our pipes, we should be fine.
So hopefully whoever is riding through Denver, on their way to Sturgis, should not have a problem……

“COLOR-FULL” EXHIBIT OPENS AT THE STURGIS MOTORCYCLE MUSEUM–Ever wonder about the American invention of motorcycle clubs? The exhibit features four clubs: the Antique Motorcycle Club of America, Boozefighters Motorcycle Club, Wind & Fire Motorcycle Club and Yonkers Motorcycle Club, the oldest club in the world.
Lonnie Isam, Jr., motorcycle memorabilia collector and motorcycle restorer, has generously placed a portion of his collection of “colors”, the patches worn by club members, on loan for this exhibit. This is a rare opportunity for the public to study the “colors” from a wide variety of clubs.
Pepper Massey, Interim Rally Director for the City of Sturgis, developed and installed the exhibit. Her hope is that visitors will come away with an understanding of how motorcycle clubs came to be labeled “biker gangs”.
Admission to the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame is $5 for adults, $4 for those 65+ and is free for children 12 and under. Regular museum hours are 9-5 Monday through Friday and 10-4 Saturday and Sunday. Special Rally hours from 8-8 begin Thursday, August 2nd and continue through August 11th. Further information about the museum can be found at www.sturgismuseum.com.

THE BOOZEFIGHTER CONTROVERSY– Everyone should be aware that information on Wikipedia is not always accurate. It is put there by anyone who want to write something. They then control the content, if you correct their errors the “owner” can just remove it. So be careful.
Certain MC information is grossly inaccurate and makes claims to being one of the oldest active clubs…bla bla bla. Anyone who has been around know that this “club” is a new organization formed in 1995 as a for profit business. It is not the original club formed in 1946. In fact the original members and “founder” hated the new club for being a business trying to make money off his name and not treating him or the members right.
Want to hear what Wino Willie had to say about the new club? Drop into winoscrew.com and listen to him tell you his self.
You can try to hide the truth, but you can’t hide it all.

ISLAND BIKERNET CELEBRATION– Didn’t know if you were running out to Sturgis soon, or starting back to concentrate on the Assault Weapon Project. But wanted to congratulate you on highest readership honor. I know it is the only way I pick-up info on what’s going on the industry.
I attached a photo from the Big Island Show, from Left to right, Ellsworth, Nui, Shannon, & Roger. By the way Shannon won top honors @ the show for his bike he built called “Easy Money.”

TULSA GETS ON THE ANTI-NOISE BANDWAGON–I took this from a website I belong to. It was written by a guy who goes by the name of “Tiger Mike.” It’s part of a monthly report (I assume) that he writes for a newsletter for OK bikers.
Tulsa ratchets up the assault on Loud Pipes, especially in the Brookside area. Remember my recent warning about a certain lawyer campaigning against motorcyclists in general, and particularly loud exhaust systems in the Tulsa area, who had the ear of the District 9 Councilman last month: Apparently, the stakes have been raised, given the most recent communication included here–check out this alarm from several sources in Northeast
Oklahoma, including Tulsa’s Joe Sewell: “Mayor Kathy Taylor, in an apparent reaction to Brookside resident pressure, has created a special task force within the Tulsa Police Department. The direction assigned to this unit is to cite any and all motorcyclists in or around the Brookside area.
All bikes are to be cited for “loud mufflers.” A uniformed official was quoted as saying ” the Mayor has tasked us with ticketing any and all motorcycles for loud mufflers, no matter the type of bike, and regardless if the mufflers are stock [OEM] or not.” He went on to state that the new police task force is incremental to normal TPD patrol units and is comprised solely of officers assigned “overtime” on their scheduled days off for this purpose and this purpose only. This is an obvious attempt to rid the Brookside area of all motorcycles, especially after dark and on weekends.
The officer went on to say “I would recommend all bikes steer clear of this area until this blows over or the local businesses put pressure back on the Mayor’s office to rescind this direction.” I guess we’ll just have to spend our money in another areas of this beleaguered city!”

You may want to share the Bikernet Independent Noise Study with the city council. Let them know that the first biker who is maimed or killed due to this discrimination against riders will cause a major lawsuit against the city. Bikernet Independent Noise Study __

BRUCE ON BIKERS RIGHTS, THE CELL PHONE KILLERS– HANG UP AND DRIVE! (Online Ammo for an Awareness War) The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (“NHTSA”) has just released Traffic Safety Facts document DOT HS 810791. Here is the introduction:
“A preview of results from the 2006 Annual Assessment of Motor Vehicle Traffic Crash Fatalities and Injuries shows that the number of people killed in the United States in motor vehicle traffic crashes declined from 43,510 in 2005 to 42,642, the lowest level in five years. This decline is the largest in terms of both number and percentage since 1992. The preview Data … shows the decline in fatalities occurred for passenger car occupants, light-truck occupants, and nonmotorists (pedestrian and pedalcyclists). However, motorcycle rider fatalities continued their nine-year increase, reaching 4,810 in 2006. Motorcycle rider fatalities now account for 11 percent of total fatalities, exceeding the number of pedestrian fatalities for the first time since NHTSA began collecting fatal motor vehicle crash data in 1975.”[1]
One reason motorcycle injuries and deaths continue to increase is that more people are riding motorcycles, and many new and “returning” riders are paying a high price for their excesses: excessive speed … excessive sauce … and excessive stupidity. That’s unfortunate, but it’s also Natural Selection… ….and although these latest statistics provide fresh fuel for the lid law lobbies, as veteran motorcycle training instructor John Sowers notes, “…going 80 miles/hr and being drunk and running into a tree won’t save you if you were wearing three helmets.”
We must not allow the negative publicity associated with the excesses of the ignorant to overshadow the fact that for experienced and responsible riders, the most significant cause of motorcycle injuries and fatalities continues to be the negligence and inattentional blindness of careless, clueless, distracted and impaired cagers. Quoting Motorcycle-Accidents-Lawyers-Attorneys.com:
The most common reason given by the motorist involved in these accidents is that they ‘didn’t see’ the motorcycle. These types of accidents account for approximately 50 percent of ALL motorcycle accidents! Recent scientific studies focusing on a phenomenon known as ‘inattentional blindness’ may help us understand why car drivers often end up causing accidents with motorcycles they ‘didn’t see.'”[2]
As the mountain of research assimilated by my partner Madd Ray shows, a leading cause of inattentional blindness is the driver distraction and impairment induced by cell phone conversations.[3] In fact, in 2002 The Harvard University Center for Risk Analysis estimated that each year 1.5 million accidents, 560,000 injuries and 2,600 deaths were due to phone use in moving vehicles.[4] And there were only 86 million cell phone service subscribers in the U.S. in 2002.[5] As of May 2007, we now have more than 236 million cell phone subscribers nationwide …almost three times as many … and 73% of them are talking while they’re driving![6]
So, how do we address this pandemic problem? Passing legislation that bans the use of handheld cellular devices while driving is certainly not the answer. Why? Because it is the conversation, and not the device, that creates the distraction. As the Center for Auto Safety’s Executive Director Clarence Ditlow noted in his January 2007 letter to NHTSA’s Nicole Nason:
“Research has consistently shown that operating a motor vehicle while talking on a cell phone–whether hand-held or hands-free–increases the risk of an accident to three to four times the experience of attentive drivers. The general consensus of the scientific community is that there is little, if any, difference in crash rates involving hands-free versus hand-held cell phones. The two-way conversation on a cellular phone, not the task of holding the phone, causes a cognitive distraction. This distraction induces ‘inattention blindness,’ inhibiting drivers’ abilities to detect change in road conditions.”[7]
That means there is one and only one way to effectively address this issue. We all have to…
HANG UP AND DRIVE!
Are you seriously interested in reducing the number of bikers maimed and killed each year by careless and clueless cagers? If so, then one of the best things you can do to mitigate inattentional blindness and make our roadways safer for motorcycling is to persuade as many motorists as you can to “Hang Up and Drive”! Notice that I said “persuade” and not “mandate”. Yes, passing laws to ban the use of cell phones while driving is one way to get drivers to shut up and steer, but it is certainly not the only way. After all, “feel-good” laws that ban only handheld devices … that have limited applicability or negligible penalties … or that are difficult or impossible to enforce … will have little impact. We have enough laws like that on the books already. So, if lobbying for a comprehensive cell phone ban with significant penalty and effective enforcement provisions is not an option …or perhaps not an option for you … campaigning for awareness still is.
Spread this one simple message:
“HANG UP AND DRIVE!”

MARTIN COUNTY STING OPERATION UNVIELED– I have heard information indicating law enforcement may be conducting a planned stop (sting sounds right) on interstate Highway #90 in Martin county. The areas I believe will be affected are interstate highway #90 and entrances and exits from interstate #90 between exit #87 Sherburn and exit #107 Imogene. This includes exit #93 Welcome, exit #99 and #102 Fairmont.
The dates I expect this action to take place are from August 1st to August 5th, 2007. This is a time period I would expect heavy volumes of motorists (read motorcyclists) traveling to Sturgis SD.
I believe the plan is to stop those that exhibit any suspicious behavior or appearance (like riding a motorcycle) for further investigation. If you plan to make the trip to Sturgis on interstate #90 you may want to avoid these exits. I expect you might encounter unnecessary delays due to these planned activities.
Request for Information
