Adams also was planning to kill a former drug unit supervisor. A judge agreed today that Adams and his wife, Robyn, should be held without bond. Prosecutors said both defendants had made threats against an informant and others in the case. Federal authorities say Adams ran a marijuana grow-house operation that supplied distributors in Tallahassee and dealt illegal prescription drugs. They also say Adams provided weapons to an informant who is a convicted felon. The U.S Attorney’s Office reports the couple faces up to life in prison, if convicted. –from Rogue COUNCILWOMAN NAUGLE FEARS THE PARADE OF CHROME IS AND ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN– Thousands of people lined the streets of Gettysburg earlier this month for Bike Week?s Parade of Chime, a yearly ritual that features a seven-mile line of motorcycles filing down Steinwehr Avenue, Baltimore Street and Lincoln Square. The event is burgeoning in popularity and attendance ? and that worries some town leaders. ?I know it brings out thousands of people, but I was glad when it was over,? Councilwoman Susan Naugle said during a recent Public Safety Committee meeting. ?I think it?s an accident waiting to happen.? The parade customarily begins at the All-Star Sports Complex, along Business 15 in Cumberland Township, and proceeds into the heart of Gettysburg Borough, circles Lincoln Square, and then heads back out to the Sports Complex. ?The speed is way in excess of the speed that?s allowed south on Baltimore Street,? Councilwoman Naugle said regarding the posted 25-mph zone. ?We have children sitting out there. It only takes one person who is not an experienced rider for a serious accident to happen in our borough.? The nine-member Borough Council is largely divided about Bike Week, an event that ? aside from the Parade of Chrome ? is largely held in neighboring townships. Battlefield Harley-Davidson, along York Road just east of Gettysburg, hosts the event, while the All-Star Events Complex and Gateway Gettysburg, near the Route 15/30 interchange in Straban Township, are co-venues. ?Thousands of people come to our town during the Parade of Chrome,? Councilwoman Caroline Smith, who traditionally rides with Battlefield-Harley Davidson owner David LeVan in the parade, said during a recent board meeting. ?The energy is vibrant, and there?s a buzz in the air.? The event is generally considered an economic boon to the area?s hospitality businesses. But critics link the mega-event to several unfavorable stereotypes: they contend that biker behavior is disorderly, that the event is uncleanly, and that noise is excessive. ?The noise is going to be loud, and sometimes deafening,? said Councilman Michael J. Birkner. ?What we face as this event grows in popularity scares me.? Harley-Davidson Motor Company, which is cognizant of the noise concerns, has launched a public awareness campaign encouraging bikers to throttle down. ?I do think that there is a perception problem, that these people are unruly,? said Councilwoman Alice Estrada, who watched the Parade of Chrome in downtown Gettysburg. ?I was on the square (during the parade), and I did not observe any of that.? The seventh annual Bike Week ? which launched Thursday, July 10 and concluded Sunday, July 13 ? was largely trouble free. Gettysburg Police Department reported that they were dispatched to just 10 incidents that were ?reasonably associated? with the event. The most significant infraction, GPD Chief Joe Dougherty said, was a disorderly conduct citation issued to a drunken biker for barking at a dog. The streets, Councilwoman Smith added, were cleanly too. Battlefield Harley Davidson placed 50 trash receptacles throughout town during the four-day event. Still, Councilwoman Naugle believes that officials should closely monitor the Parade of Chrome, before an unfortunate mishap lands the municipality in legal trouble. ?We just need to take a close look at the whole parade, before someone gets hurt,? she said. Aside from the annual Civil War re-enactment, which was held in early July, Bike Week is arguably the area?s most highly attended special event. Doc Robinson, from Heavy Duty Magazine is riding in on a Victory Vision, switching to a Harley and may ride with Billy to Stugis. If it wasn’t for Edge from the Smoke Out Fame we wouldn’t have the Brouhaha Sturgis show. Seth Doulton, the man behind the Hollister event and our Bike Show Leader, is hauling the Salt Shaker to Mike Lichter’s Exhibit at Thunder Road. Without Mike Lichter motorcycle photography in Easyriders would not exist. I’m fucking with you, but they’ve all helped Sturgis come together for Bikernet. I joke around about the Bikernet University, or Bikernet studies, because I firmly believe building and riding custom bikes is all about havin’ a blast. But we work on some serious shit from time to time to keep this sport alive and free. Our Bikernet Independent noise study is a serious attempt to take the spin off noise regulations and we continue to work that element. We are now working with a couple of Universities in California and Texas to research emission efforts, categorize their levels and put a cost on regulation. The Bikernet staff believes that the government needs to evaluate their efforts and focus on global warming milestones that will make the biggest difference and allow freedom to reign having little or no impact on emission levels. If you can help, don’t hesitate to drop us a note. It’s damn important to put this study together quickly, before we’re all buried with bullshit regs. So we joke around at Bikernet and keep it light, but we have also always supported our freedoms whenever possible.
