Hey,
What?s the deal. We seem to run from one event to the next. Just back from Hawaii?s Choppers only show, and we?re about to launch The Girls Of Bikernet.com and attend the LA Calendar show in Long Beach, sponsored by Bikernet.com (next weekend). Builders are flying bikes into Los Angeles from Hawaii for the event.
On top of all that?s happening I?m working until 2:00 in the morning to finish my Sturgis Shovel, for Sturgis and the LA Calendar Show. It?s crazy. I?ve got show fever. I won?t compete, but I would like that crazy looking bastard to be there. Not to just be there, but to ride it there with Roger from Hawaii?s Kustom Fab. He?s bringing his show winning Tiki bike. I?m sure it will blow SoCal builders away.
Then there?s Livia, the Girls of Bikernet spokeswoman and model coordinator, with official GOB photographer/site designer hanging out at the headquarters. I?ll report more on them at the end. Let?s hit the news:

G’day all. Well I am still in Kansas and I have been having some fun. Here are some Aussie thoughts…the roads here are long and straight and boring, and it is often windy, and I mean windy with a capital W. Everyone here has some kind of windshield on their bikes, after a day spent riding an unfaired trail bike on the highways I can see why. I thought my head had been blown off a couple of times. This is a helmet free state and I reckon about half the riders dont have lids. Which is cool, I like helmets but I like freedom of choice also.
I am wearing a helmet here for a very good reason…sunburn. I thought my tanned Aussie skin would be immune to sunburn in the USA but that is not the case at all. I got burnt really bad by the hot dry winds the first 100 mile ride I took. The helmet I brought to Kansas is freaking the locals out big time. A full face, camoflague colored motocross helmet with reflective black, insectoid like goggles. I am sure they think the Predator is riding around their small town. A State Trooper just stopped at an intersection, looked at me and shook his head.
I have found that American drivers are so much more courteous towards bikes than drivers in Sydney. They often wave me thru the right of way at intersections even though they do not have to stop. Having said that I have seen people driving on the interstates do the dumbest things. A guy with his family in a sedan just swereved right in front of a huge red pick up at 65mph…to pull into a rest stop on side of road. The pick up did not even have time to brake and missed the back of the sedan by inches. Most of the dumb things I see tend to be on the major highways, I think the cause is the same as in Australia. The roads are so boring, just dead straight for hundreds of miles, there is little to keep the driver’s attention occupied and the speed limit for the roads and the driving conditions is ridiculously low. A lot of us in Oz believe that if we were allowed to drive much faster on the interstates we would concentrate more and not get so brain dead! (That’s my excuse for speeding officer.)
Having said that I have been having tremendous fun on my mate’s son 250 trail bike. There are many dirt roads in this farming area and it rained a few days ago. Give me an off road bike and dirt/sand/muddy roads to hooligan along and I am a happy camper. (I will wash the bike before I give it back Chris, honest.) Almost all the bikes out here in country Kansas are cruisers or big tourers. I think I have only seen 3 sports bikes since I have been here. And that’s understandable, seeing as how there are hardly any curves or corners in the roads.
It was only a few days ago I finally found a bike I could A; afford, and B; feel comfotable on. The Harleys were too expensive. I looked at and rode a couple of older model Goldwings, but man, they are so huge and cumbersome. Could not see myself blasting around the mountains and canyons of the Northwest on one of those. The girls loved the amount of gear a Goldwing is capable of carrying. Hmmm…perhaps something one has to be more frugal in the packing dept with?
I finally found a Honda Shadow Cruiser 600, late model with hardly any miles, at just the right price. It’s light, comfortable and easily capable of carrying (a small amount of luggage dear)two people at the legal speed limits. I am touring the USA, not racing around. A big engine and a high top speed was not on my list of priorities.
So I am all set to head out towards Colorado and points Southwest and Northwest in the next ten days or so. I have a few rides lined up around here first. That will give me time to sort the bike for luggage options and any other adjustments I may make. Thank God it came with a windshield, now I wont have to tie myself to the bike while I ride it around here. That’s about it for now.
I will probably manage to find an Internet hook up in some places as we ride around so I will try to update now and again. Final destination is the Sturgis Rally. Looking forward to that, the icing on the cake. If any of you see a black Honda Shadow Cruiser (probably way overloaded with luggage) with a Bikernet sticker and some Aussie Flag stickers on it, wander over and say G’day.
See you on the road.
Cheers.

Stealth Bike Works held our Grand Opening yesterday. We had a real good turn out. There was food and music and door prizes. The best part of the day for me was when I over heard two guys talking and one said to the other, “This place is not like the dealerships, you will see some real bikers here today!”
That made my day and let me know we are on the right track! I will send pics with the Thursday news.

A friend of mine that owns a Harley dealership in the Midwest, is receiving approximately 40 big twins, they are in assorted models and colors. The pricing I’m told will be about $2,000 off of list price. These are all new bikes and available on first come, first serve basis.
He has asked me not to give the name of the dealership and that all inquiries come through me. Anyone interested should contact me directly for availability and dealer location.

Just wanted to pass this on to you…I have posted on several group sites. I have been checking out your site for several years. Ride ON!
From September 24 to October 1, 2005, 28 young breast cancer survivors, including myself, will embark on the adventure of a lifetime, riding motorcycles up the coast of California from Los Angeles to San Francisco in Changing Gears, a unique high-profile advocacy, community building and fundraising event created for and by young women living with breast cancer.
We will be riding the second leg of an amazing international motorcycle relay, with other young survivors from around the world taking part in one week rides in the United Kingdom, United States and Australia over three months. Changing Gears ? The Global Run, is organized by Amazon Heart, who run programs for young survivors in partnership with leading breast cancer agencies around the world.
Over the course of a week, we will raise awareness of the diverse needs of young women living with breast cancer, challenge media stereotypes, raise funds and continue along our own personal path of growth and healing by building a supportive community with fellow survivors. It truly is the adventure of a lifetime and I can?t wait!
I have set for myself an even greater challenge, as I will be one of 4 ladies riding my own bike in the event. This bike is very special to me, as it was Uncle Floyds. Uncle Floyd was the one that got me started riding two wheels over 30 years ago. We lost Uncle Floyd to brain cancer in 2003. He wanted me to keep the bike going and ride in his honor. What better way to honor Floyd and his brave fight with cancer than riding his bike during the Changing Gears ride. I know he will be with me in Spirit as I ride all the way down to LA and during the ride itself. I should have over 3500 miles in the wind round trip!
My personal fund raising goal is to raise $5,000 which will benefit programs for young women diagnosed with breast cancer provided by Amazon Heart and its partner organizations in the United States. I invite you to join me by doing either of the following:

A brother of mine has a handicapped son, but he bends over backwards to entertain and keep his son active. Recently he considered some way to launch his son into the wind.
?I ordered the side car for Johnathan today, should have it in about 4 to 6 weeks. All black with the wire wheel not the mag that is pictured,? said Bob T. ?John is really excited about it. I also picked up the reverse gear. I am going to put in a mild cam , to help with the extra weight. This should be alot of fun for all of us.?

Rooke, Mitchell, Pontarelli, Sands, Bergeron, and Stafford America’s Top Custom Bike Builders confirmed for Iron & Lace Calendar Builders Seminars at the LA Calendar Motorcycle Show Weekend July 16-17th
Los Angeles, CA – There’s an impressive lineup of America’s top celebrity custom bike builders confirmed to be exhibiting the hottest new bikes and conducting free Iron & Lace Calendar Builders Seminars at the big Los Angeles Calendar Motorcycle Show Weekend sponsored by Bikernet.com, on July 16-17th. In fact, many of these top name builders made their first ever pubic appearance as builders at the LA Calendar Show, and garnered world wide recognition of their leading edge bikes in the FastDates.com produced Iron & Lace Calendar photographed by Show producer Jim Gianatsis.
The builder lineup for this year’s Show and Seminars includes two Best of Show winners, and many of the hottest bike building stars on TV shows like American Thunder, Biker Build Off and Build or Bust. Featured in Seminars both days will be 3-time LA Calendar Show winner Jesse Rooke who premiered his first ever custom bike “Single Sided” at the Show just three years ago, and has proven himself to be one of the most exciting and original custom bike builders in the world.
Then there’s Russell Mitchell of Exile Cycles, the former and still sexy British male model who’s former wife was a FastDates.com Calendar model, and whose basic black ” No Bull” street rods have garnered a cult following and are owned by Hollywood stars like George Clooney. Russell’s “No Bull” Builder Seminars last year drew a standing room only crowd and the Builders Seminar Midway has been expanded this year to accommodate the swelling ranks of Russell’s fans.
Then there’s Harold “The Ponz” Ponzerelli of HD Performance, the gruff burly bearded builder who also scored a Best of Show and has had his bikes featured inside and on the cover of the Iron & Lace Calendar for a decade. The Ponz’s candy coated choppers have been featured in movies like Biker Boyz, and reside in the million dollar toy collections of Hollywood Stars and Middle Eastern Royal Monarchs.
Other Seminar instructors include Rolland Sands from Performance Machine, tile sponsor of the Calendar Bike Show and the FastDates.com Calendars, who has become a noted builder in his own right. Together with Mitch Bergeron and Mike Stafford of MGS Customs.
No other motorcycle show in America offers fans the exclusive opportunity to sit in on seminars with their favorite celebrity builders and to ask the questions they want to ask. The Iron & Lace Calendar Builder Seminars are just one of the unique features of the Los Angeles Calendar Motorcycle Show, the biggest custom & performance streetbike show in America. The 2005 Show has expanded its hours and size to accommodate its continued growth, and this year has sold out again with 185 major builders, manufacturers and product venders. Motorcycle riders 13th annual commuting Ride to Work day is Wednesday, July 21st. Participation in the yearly demonstration is estimated to triple the number of riders on the road, and help reveal to the public that motorcyclists come from all walks of life, work in all occupations, and range in age from teenagers to grandparents. Motorcycle clubs and organizations worldwide actively encourage members to ride their cycles to work on this day.
Each week day in the United States, more than eighty million cars and light trucks commute on American roads, but only about 200,000 of the over six million registered cycles are regularly used for such daily transportation. Adding more motorcycles to the mix can help make urban parking easier and traffic flow better, according to Ride to Work, a non-profit advocacy organization. Studies have also shown that urban motorcyclists reach their destinations faster than those using automobiles, and that most motorcycles consume less resources per mile than typical automobiles.
“Riding to work on this day shows the positive value of motorcycling for transportation. For many people, riding is a socially responsible form of personal mobility that saves energy, helps the environment and provides a broad range of other public benefits,” stated Andy Goldfine, this year’s event organizer.
On Wednesday’s 13th annual Ride to Work Day, motorcyclists worldwide seek: ? Employer recognition and support for motorcycling ? Public and government awareness of the positive value of motorcycling.

The Swedish Police had this vehicle/bike “cleaned out” on completion of their investigations and put it back together to show what can happen in a motorcycle accident.
The Honda rider was traveling at such “very high speed”, his reaction time was not sufficient enough to avoid this accident. Swedish Police estimate a speed of ~250 KM/h before the bike hit the slow moving car side on at an intersection. At that speed, they predicted that the riders reaction time once the vehicle came into view wasn’t sufficient enough for him to even apply the brakes.
The car had two passengers and the bike and rider were found INSIDE the car. The Volkswagen actually flipped over from the force of impact and landed 10 feet from where the collision took place.
All three involved (two in car and rider) were killed instantly.
This graphic demonstration was placed at the Stockholm Motorcycle Fair by the Swedish Police and Road safety Department. The sign above the display also noted that the rider had only recently obtained his license.

You may want to give some thought to running some of my rockers you know. They are set up to run at a 40 degree rake with a final trail of 4.5 inches and feel good on the road. They are intended to go on a Pauchco Springer so I don’t know how they fit up on a vintage VL unit, but I can always send out a set so you can see if they will fit. It is a mad house here Holly is moving into her new shop next door and the Paint shop is coming together. and I am running mad with work here at the Devil’s playground, ain?t life grand!

Anaheim Hills, California- V-Twin Marketing, the well known Adv/ Marketing/ Public Relations Agency in which specializes in the V-Twin Industry, has recently hired an individual whose passion, and now work, unite. Richard Allen Raus III (Ricky Raus) is currently attending Fullerton College and majoring in Advertising and Marketing; a field he thought suitable for himself and his career as he began school last fall. ?He is fresh to the business portion of this market, but not to the market itself,? states President of V-Twin Marketing, Rick Raus. ?This young man has lived and breathed this industry all his life; I brought him up that way. ?The only problem that I see possibly occurring is deciphering the difference between my work and social life being as how events that I would normally attend for personal entertainment I now attend as ?business obligations? and people whose work I?ve respected and loved I now have the honor of dealing with! Very few people are as lucky as me as to have a job that they can say they love and look forward to doing. For this reason, I see this Industry as the one that I?ll be in for the rest of my life,? concludes Ricky, the new addition to V-Twin Marketing.
Ricky was hired as an Account Executive for V-Twin Marketing who currently handles Weld Racing, Hellbound Steel Motorcycles, TP Engineering, KC Creations/Big Inch Bikes and Powertye Manufacturing. ALBANY, Ga. ? Police Cpl. Robert Ponder used to wear his uniform proudly in restaurants on his lunch break. But that changed over the last two years when at least 16 of his fellow Albany officers were dismissed or suspended ? some charged with or convicted of crimes.
The charges ranged from theft to having sex with a 14-year-old girl. One was convicted of stealing the wallet of a man seriously injured in a motorcycle accident. Another pleaded guilty to offering money to an undercover officer for sex. And yet another was accused of stealing Social Security numbers, using them to open cell phone accounts and running up $5,000 in bills.
The biggest blow came last September when Cpl. Andrew Hayslip, who had a history of domestic violence, drove his patrol car to his son?s preschool and shot the 4-year-old boy to death, wounded the boy?s mother and killed himself. He did it while in uniform.
Horrified, the city days later forced Police Chief Bobby Johnson into retirement two months early. So now, Ponder gets his meals at drive-through windows and eats in his cruiser. That way he does not have to hear the all wise cracks about the department?s problems. ?The first thing they ask is, since the mid- 1990s ?What?s wrong with y?all??? he said.
?We?re not all bad guys,? said the 35-year-old officer, who has considered resigning out of frustration. ?Sometimes the negative publicity puts you in a hole.?
Officials in this southern Georgia city of 76,000 hope the worst is over. They have announced plans for an independent probe of the 192-officer department to help re store public trust. ?I see this as a cleansing process,? said Mayor Willie Adams. ?It?s good we identified these problems and are getting them out of the way.?
Still unknown is how many officers may be charged as a result of a Georgia Bureau of Investigation probe launched in May. The agency is looking into allegations that some Albany officers worked part-time jobs during their police shifts. The Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council said it has investigated 70 Albany officers since 1986, most of them since the mid-1990s

I NEED TO GRAB A HANDFUL OF WRENCHES–and get to work. Livia and Sam will shoot bikes around southern California, including Johnny Chop, Rowland Sands and maybe even West Coast Choppers while Livia interviews potential Girls of Bikernet models.
The notion is that the Girls of Bikernet will interview and train models for events. Sam and Livia will travel around the country capturing the best looking girls and bikes in the world. Each girl will have class and be able to work crowds and sign posters at events. In other words we?ll make sure they?re good people.
If you?re in the neighborhood for the LA Calendar Show, stop by the booth. If you?re rolling out to Sturgis, don?t miss the Full Throttle activities. We?ll be there almost every day. In the meantime, I need to grab dem wrenches and get my ass in gear.
Hopefully we?ll have a barbeque and margarita time this afternoon.
Ride Forever,
Bandit
