INTERMOT Cologne 2008– In 2008, INTERMOT Cologne (8th to 12th October) will offer the German and international trade even more services to ensure that planning a visit to the fair will be efficient, painstaking and in linewith the trade visitors’ needs. In addition tothe Dealer Card, a special admission ticket for trade visitors which offers numerous benefits, the new “Matchmaking” online service enables buyers from around the world to arrange their trade fairvisits in line with their specific needs during therun-up to the fair – and at the same time engage in a dialogue with exhibitors to request meeting appointments, product price quotes and information about product ranges.
An Internet-based communication platform, Matchmaking makes it possible for trade dealers to establish contact with INTERMOT Cologne 2008 exhibitors even before the trade fair officially opens. Thistool can be used to submit questions to theexhibitors – to one exhibitor, to a selected list of companies or to all suppliers in a specific product group. This is a great advantage, and particularly for major trade fairs like INTERMOTCologne, where more than 1,100 suppliers present thebreadth – and above all the depth – of the product range of the motorised two-wheel vehicles sector.
In 2006, for example, 506 exhibitors from 33 countries presented products from theparts/accessories segment; 299 companies from 25 countriesexhibited products in the clothing/riding equipment segment; and 254 companies from 22 countries exhibited motorised vehicles. With Matchmaking, trade dealers can quickly and easily gatherinformation about companies and their product lines. Theexhibitors then respond by e-mail, allowing trade dealers to make appointments for meetings in a targeted manner, even before the event. And it all can be done comfortably and conveniently at home orin the office, so trade visitors are assured ofmaximum efficiency when planning their visits.

D&D EXHAUST QUESTION OF THE WEEK– Q: What is your best performing pipe? A: The 2 into 1 Boarzilla and Fat Cat exhaust systems are our best performing exhaust pipes for Softails, Dynas, Sportsters and Dressers. The Boarzilla is specifically designed with a larger diameter pipe for performance motors that have been built and live on steroids.
Q: How do your exhaust systems compare with other aftermarket pipes? A: We know you want flawless chrome. That is why each one of our pipes are delivered with show-quality chrome. Also, we know you want performance. Our senior management team spends more time in the Dyno room than it does in the back office. This ensures that you get the best looking product and the best performing product available today.
IT’S GRAND NATIONAL ROADSTER SHOW TIME–No drinks or relaxing. I need to hit the showers and the wicked LA freeway system to Pomona in the rain showers. It’s grizzly out there, for It Never Rains In Southern California, bullshit. This show handles the judging more professionally than I’ve ever seen at any bike show. The judges have a check off sheet to categorize each entrant.
The owners don’t pick their class, the judge handles that. Then judging is handled very specifically, and each bike is “Judged.” That means I must fill out a lengthly form on each bike that’s shared with the owner, although he doesn’t see the actual score. It’s a lengthly involved process, but there’s no bullshit involved and the owner get to see the judge’s comments.
When we started the Easyriders Judged Class, I designed a judging form and coached the judges each show on criteria and judging procedure. All the judges need to be on the same page or the scores flounder out of whack. This show is handled much the same way, plus everything is documented.
There you have it. A Buell brake tech is in the works, our Bikernet Metric.com features are flying in and I’ll be around for the Sunday Post. First of next week I’ll finish the S&S Gear drive installation article and Humble will wrap up the feature on Dissel’s bike. Hang on. There’s never a dull moment around here.
