Here’s the Sturgis Rider Live Girls at the Sacramento Easyriders show this weekend with Scott Long. ER hits Charlotte next weekend.

Hey,

Was just thinking that as Bikernet grows over the years, readers will be able to go back 10 years and check the first bike feature we launched, a news without images, or an ancient tech tip. It’s all still there on a daily basis.

I’ll get right to the news today, ’cause I need to dive back into the shop and ready the Assalt Weapan for a trailer ride to Performance Machine on Tuesday, where it will be picked up by Keyboard Shipping and hauled to Cincinnati for the V-Twin Dealer show. It’ll never look so good. It may never shine like this again. Who knows? The bike will be featured in the Accurate Engineering booth.

Speaking of Shows, they’re everywhere, as you will see as you scroll through this blast of info and good news. We wouldn’t have it any other way:

BIKERNET THURSDAY NEWS REVIEW– Just a quick note to say how great the news was this week. I can’t put my finger on exactly what it is but there was more personality in this week’s post than in the past. Good mix of industry news, humor, and love of the biker lifestyle. Thanks for the articles about veterans and the optimist’s creed too.

BTW thanks for telling everyone about what nest of assholes Wal-Mart is! I tell everyone I know that I don’t shop at Wal-Mart or Sams Clubs because they sell nothing but chinese shit and then they fuck their workers with low pay and shitty benefits. Chris Callen, who I met at Bonneville and admire for his drive and determination, showed the kind of real patriotism we need. He could have sold out his fellow Americans and lined his pockets but instead he stood with his fellow Americans against those pricks.

On the plastic bag story, a friend of mine is converting his restaurant take out containers to products made from corn gluten from the midwest instead of plastic made in china. Just think how much impact we each can have if we seek out and buy American products. We just might help our working people make a living again here at home instead of some corporate assholes shipping jobs to china and getting rich on their backs. One reason I love the V-Twin industry is that it’s mostly made in America and that keeps our money here feeding our brothers and sisters.

Peace

BIKERNET CORRECTION– I have been trying to hunt down a 2007 Black Street Glide, NOT A ROAD GLIDE, with no luck. I have called a million Harley shops in the states, so I guess I will try for a 2008 Black Street Glide. I don’t need no security systems or those new brakes, was wondering do you have any connections, over there in getting a deal. I would have it shipped to San Deigo to put on Pasha to ship over for $450.00.

HARLEY-DAVIDSON MOTORCLOTHES SKYLINE HELMET DESIGNED ESPECIALLY FOR WOMEN– MILWAUKEE (January 18, 2008) – Women riders love nothing more than starting up a Harley-Davidson, strapping on a helmet and hitting the open road. But to fully enjoy this kind of freedom, a woman requires a proper-fitting helmet designed to fit comfortably on her head – not on a man’s. Now, in an industry first, Harley-Davidson MotorClothes introduces the Skyline helmet series designed expressly for women, offering a customized fit that she can control.

Helmet

For years, Harley-Davidson MotorClothes has been a leader in designing riding gear made to fit and function on a women’s body, offering everything from jackets to eyewear. The helmet, however, was long assumed to be a unisex item until research revealed that women had other ergonomic needs.

How the Skyline Caters to Women

“We started hosting helmet seminars at dealerships, and women told us they often have to fit the helmet over more hair than man, which can leave the helmet sitting too high on the head, resulting in poor fit,” says Matt Thompson, Harley-Davidson Category Manager of Riding Gear, Leathers and Outerwear. “We determined that a woman’s helmet needs to be more adjustable both front-to-back and side-to-side.”

The result is the new Skyline helmet series. It features: a shell and liner that is 10 mm deeper than the standard helmet dimensions, allowing it to fit more comfortably on a women’s forehead and the back of her head, an interchangeable inner liner side panel keeps the helmet from being too loose on the sides. The panels, sold separately, simply slide and snap into the helmet liner in place of the side panels that come with the helmet, it’s available in seven different thickness sizes which can be fitted with thin pieces of foam for a customized fit, and an anti-static comfort liner to reduce “helmet hair” that often results after removing a helmet, and a “pony tail notch” to provide extra room through a special cut-out section in the back.

BUILDERS BRKFST BANNER 08

BUILDERS BREAKFAST HELPS SERIOUSLY ILL CHILDREN FORGET WHAT THEY HAVE FOR A WHILE, ONE CHILD AT A TIME– Boggy Creek named beneficiary of Builders Breakfast event scheduled for March 4th, 2008 at Destination Daytona during Bike Week.

Minneapolis, MN – (January, 2008) -Boggy Creek has one mission, to help children forget what they have for awhile. The participating Builders at the 2008 Builders Breakfast are going to help them do that, one breakfast at a time. “With the help of this years sponsor’s, we are sure to raise more money than last year for Boggy Creek. Boggy Creek is making life a little easier for special kids in Florida. As a father myself, I can’t imagine what these kids endure daily. We need lots of people to come and have a bite to eat with us at Destination Daytona so one more child can forget what they have for a little bit longer” said 2008 Host, Russell Mitchell of Exile Cycles.

Camp Boggy Creek, a year-round camp for children ages 7-16 who have chronic or life threatening illnesses, is located on 232 acres in Eustis, FL. The Camp allows children whose lives have been a series of medical procedures and hospital stays to enjoy a camp experience as just a “kid.” There is no charge to attend Camp Boggy Creek and it is solely supported by contributions and donations from individuals, corporations and foundations. Since its opening in June 1996, Camp Boggy Creek has served over 32,000 seriously ill children and their families with the help of a core group of 5,500 faithful volunteers and support of corporations, foundations and individuals each year. Baker Drivetrain and the Builders Breakfast will be releasing more information about an all new promotion very soon. “In 2007 we dabbled with the Builders Breakfast events at both Daytona and Sturgis. Everyone at Baker knew 2008 would be the year we jumped in with both feet. These events are the heart and soul of this industry” said Bert Baker, Founder Baker Drivetrain.

The Builders Breakfast Daytona event has dozens of builders already confirmed including our 2008 host Russell Mitchell. Join the most recognized Builders for a casual breakfast and lively auction at Bruce Rossmeyer’s Destination Daytona. Expect to see amazing auction items signed by all attending Builders! Also at the Daytona event, artist Adam Croft of Last Ride Leather will donate another hand made Builders Breakfast motorcycle seat (see photo). This item was the first to go at last years Sturgis event! New for 2008 is an alliance with S&S. S&S will provide an S&S /MAC Tools toolbox and toolkit for the live auction. You can be sure this toolbox will be the hot item of the morning. “S&S is proud to associate with a group that goes the extra mile to support those in need” explained Bret Smith, President S&S Cycles.

The 2nd Annual Builders Breakfast Daytona will take place during bike week Tuesday, March 4th 2008 at Destination Daytona. Tickets are for sale online at: www.brucerossmeyer.com. Choose Daytona Harley-Davidson button to be connected to site.

BIKERNET TECH QUESTION OF THE WEEK– hey saw the article, thanks for posting it, got a few questions for you…. I’m going to put 14″ or 16″ sky bars with 1″ risers on the night train when I get it. Now I would need +10″ cables and wires right… where in the hell can I get them J&P cycles and Dennis Kirk only go to 6+, and also do you happen to have any old bars and risers lying around would you?

Looking at about march for the new bike, and I plan on writing you a few techs over the winter of ’08 I’m going to put a new rear fender on it, bars, led run stop and sig lights, re-wiring the bars, moving the high beam switch to the right heal of my boot. The plan is to only have 3 switches on the bars: horn, right turn and left, internal throttle, putting the ignition switch on the top motor-mount, making my own foot pegs all kinds of shit is floating around in my head for that bike. so hopefully if all the cards play out right I’ll have it soon and can get to makin’ it mine… well later for now

–Rookie

Response from J&P– Remember what is +6 for one model bike may be standard for another model. Generally 16-inch apes require +6 cables. ’96 and later throttle and idle cables interchange between models. ’87 and later clutch cables interchange.

2. Avoid cutting yourself when slicing vegetables by getting someone else to hold while you chop.

3. Avoid arguments with the Mrs. about lifting the toilet seat by using the sink.

4. For high blood pressure sufferers: simply cut yourself and bleed for a few minutes, thus reducing the pressure in your veins. Remember to use a timer.

5. A mouse trap, placed on top of your alarm clock, will prevent you from rolling over and going back to sleep after you hit the snooze button.

6. If you have a bad cough , take a large dose of laxatives, then you’ll be afraid to cough.

LEGENDAIRBANNER

LEGENT AIR RIDE AFFORDABLE– ’07 pricing makes an Air Ride better than ever . . . Good news out of Legend Air / Independent Cycle. Make that great news. Those Legend Air Ride Suspension Systems, all of them, the systems for the Softails, the Dynas the FLs and the V-Rods have new price tags for the new season. The Air Ride that set the standard for comfort, ride, handling, adjustability and quality is now more affordable than ever. Riders who were on the fence, guys who knew they wanted a Legend but just couldn’t swing the purchase will be shopping with brand-new eyes.

And the only thing that’s gone down here is the price. Everything else, for all the systems, is exactly as it’s always been. In fact, it’s better than ever. The systems are easier than ever to install now and the switching and controls have been streamlined for ease of use. And there are applications across the board. There are systems for all the Softails, Dynas, FLs and V-Rods.

Everything’s made in the USA and it all comes with a one-year warranty. And everything’s included. There’s an air compressor, the air-suspension units themselves and they’re offered with chrome plate or black anodized finishes, the handlebar-mount “on the fly” control switch is included and there’s a choice of black or chrome there and a solenoid valve is part of the package, as well.

Everything is CNC machined from the best 6061-T6 billet aluminum and 303 stainless steel and it all mounts quickly and easily with full installation. All the electrical connections are direct plug-ins now, too. No soldering or ugly wire connecters required and that includes the new and simple-to-use control unit that mounts right on the handlebar.

A Legend Air Ride Suspension can transform the look, ride, handling and load-carrying capacity of any Harley. You’ve known that all along. So have all those customers who’ve wanted one but held off because of price. That obstacle’s now gone. This season anyone wanting a Legend Air Ride can get one, and Drag Specialties has them all, ready and waiting.

V-FORCE CUSTOMS TO UNVEIL ITS FIRST CUSTOM BIKE AT BRUCE ROSSMEYER’S DISTINATION DAYTONA, BIKE WEEK 2008– Company plans to give away bike to one lucky winner after year-long inaugural rally tour.

Rock Tavern, New York – 12 January 2008 Vinnie DiMartino and Cody Connelly, founders of V-Force Customs, will introduce their first custom bike since leaving the popular television series, American Chopper, when they appear at Daytona bike week February 29, 2008.

DiMartino and Connelly will begin a year-long 12-rally tour when they join Rob Hassay’s ProTour on February 2nd in Cincinnati, Ohio at the V-Twin Expo. “This gives Vinnie and me our first chance to get away from the shop but more importantly it allows us to visit with everyone and personally thank and shake their hands, ” Connelly said. “Then we’ve got to rush back to the shop to get the bike finished for Daytona,” DiMartino added. At each event people can register to win this inaugural bike, which will then be awarded to one lucky winner at Daytona bike week, 2009.

Company spokesperson, Jeff Bartucci, president of BikerDATA.com said, “V-Force Customs began its new venture in the fall of 2007 with the goal of building one of a kind motorcycles that will fulfill their customers’ dreams and be passed down from generation to generation.” Bartucci added, “When you couple the high industry regard these guys enjoy with the sponsorships they’ve acquired and then add in their incredible skills, we’re expecting 2008 to be an awesome year for V-Force Customs.”

Early sponsors of V Force Customs and/or the inaugural bike build include: R&R Cycles, Racing Innovations, RacePro Motorsports, Dupont, Rivera – Primo, Wilwood Engineering, Nub Graphix, LoJack Motorcycle Recovery Systems, NGK, UPS, Bruce Rossmeyer’s Destination Daytona, Renegade Wheels, Direct-Lift, BikerPics.org, Team Synergy Coatings, Born to Ride Magazine, Liquid HorsePower (Manhattan Oil), Tail Gunner Exhaust, Shock Doctor, The Biker Guide Magazine, Ocean Waves Sunglasses, Ray C. GYNECOLOGIST’S ASSISTANT JOB APPLICANT– A young man goes into the Job Center in Jacksonville, Florida, and sees card advertising for a Gynecologist’s Assistant. Interested he goes to learn more.

“Can you give me some more details about this?” he asks the guy behind the desk.

The Job Center man sorts through his files and replies, “Oh yes here it is.”

“The job entails you getting the lady patients ready for the gynecologist. You have to help them out of their underwear, lie them down and carefully wash their genital regions. You then apply shaving foam and gently shave off all their pubic hair then rub in soothing oils so that they’re ready for the gynecologist’s examination.

There’s an annual salary of $45,000, but you’re going to have to go to Oxford, Mississippi. That’s about 620 miles from here.”

UV SURFACE COATINGS AVAILABLE IN SAN PEDRO, CA– I don’t know if this is something that you do to your bikes; but in case you don’t and might be interested, I wanted to introduce our company.

We are UV Surface, LLC and are located in San Pedro, CA. Most of the work we do is with local municipalities coating signage and plastic LED covers; but we also do art pieces and last year did a custom Harley for Jay-Bird that was the cover and featured in June’s Biker magazine. Besides being able to coat raw steel, the coating offers fantastic longevity to paint, especially the gas tank.

If this is something that might be of interest to you, please give myself or my partner Mark Landers a call.

Of course, anytime you’re slinging tools, in the shop one one thing leads to another. We’ll see what happens next. Jeremiah’s in the shop shooting sparks. I better get moving.

Here’s another teaser of our Bikernet Metric logo.

Here’s the deal for next week. I have a wild tech on dog bites coming, a new custom builder in Florida, named Dissel, another feature from the KISS crew and we are going to attempt to launch our Bikernet Metric.com site again. Hang on. We also have a new Coast to Coast legislative news show for you and Ralph Randolf’s board tracker. Hang on.

Ride Forever,
