Illinois State University is including free motorcycle safety courses among its summer and fall class offerings.
The school announced Thursday the basic, intermediate and experienced rider courses will be administered in partnership with the Illinois Department of Transportation.
The school says the classes are offered in an attempt to reduce the severity and frequency of motorcycle accidents. Immediate openings are available for classes held in Normal, Springfield, Decatur, Canton, Galesburg, East Peoria, LaSalle and East Moline.
Illinois residents who are 16 years old or older and have a valid driver's license or permit are eligible to register. Interested participants must sign up online.
The program provides motorcycles and helmets for participants in basic and intermediate courses. Participants in the experienced rider courses must provide their own motorcycle.
