I hate to discuss politics over custom motorcycles and redheads. It’s not fair, but it’s all over us. I mentioned how the government should be given a project and told to finish it before it causes anymore problems, like fix the Post Office, and don’t come back until it’s done.
I watched a presentation by Greg Smith, a young man who wrote “Why I Left Goldman Sachs.” He explains how our government has no control over the large banks, and what can or should be done. Check it out. It’s written in plain language. And there is a plain language solution, if these bastards would step up and get it done.
So let me get this straight: They can’t balance their budget. They can’t fix the Post Office or the out-of-control banking system, yet they want us to follow their rules.
Okay, so enough of this stuff. I need a new bottle of whiskey and an open road. We are discussing the ride to Paso Robles, California with Marilyn Stemp of IronWorks and Ted Sands of Performance Machine. We plan to stop and see the gang at JIMS.
In the meantime, I’m headed to Mazatlan, Mexico for the largest motorcycle rally of the year. The brothers at Spitfire Motorcycles talked me into it. I’m sure the weekend will flow with Tequila, cervasas, and … Let’s hit the news.

BIKER DRESSED AS EASTER BUNNY PULLED OVER–A motorcycle rider in an Easter Bunny costume was pulled over by a California Highway Patrol officer on Saturday.

A motorcyclist wearing a full Easter Bunny costume was pulled over by the California Highway Patrol early Saturday after officers on routine patrol spotted the costumed man traveling down Interstate 8 without a helmet, NBCLosAngeles.com reported.
CHP Officer Adam Griffiths reportedly radioed: “I’m stopping the Easter Bunny.”
The motorist – who was cruising in a shiny red bike with an old-fashioned sidecar – told Griffiths that he was on his way to an Easter charity event at which he was required to wear a bunny costume, including white gloves and floppy feet.
Griffiths’ partner snapped a photo of the repentant rabbit, which has since circulated widely on social media networks.
Grifiths told the man that the bunny head obstructed his view and put other motorists in danger, according to local reports. But Griffiths ultimately let him off with a verbal warning instead of a citation.
“If you ride a motorcycle, you have to be aware of your total surroundings,” CHP spokesman Brian Pennings told the Los Angeles Times.

NHTSA ALERT, TRIUMPH RECALL–The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that Triumph Motorcycles (Triumph) is recalling 3,799 certain model year 2012-2013 Daytona 675, Street Triple, Speed Triple, and Tiger 800 motorcycles. The recall is because of a manufacturing error that may cause the turn signal stems on the front and rear of the motorcycle to fracture. If the turn signal stems break, the turn signals may not be visible to other vehicles on the road, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.
Triumph will notify owners and dealers will replace the turn signal stems, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Triumph at 1-678-854-2010 for more information. Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236, or go to www.safercar.gov.

When the victims got home, they found that their house had been ransacked and just about everything worth anything had been stolen. The thieves had used the GPS to guide them to the house. They then used the garage remote?control to open the garage door and gain entry to the house. The thieves knew the owners were at the football game, they knew what time the game was scheduled to finish and so they knew how much time they had to clean out the house. It would appear that they had brought a?truck to empty the house of its contents. Something to consider if you have a GPS – don’t put your home address in it… Put a nearby address (like a store or gas station) so you can still find your way home if you need to, but no one else would know where you live if your GPS were stolen.

UNCLE MONKEY FEELS THE PRESSURE–I like to stay one step ahead of the game but at the end of the day I’m still only human. This last week I had my ass handed to me by a mountain of work juggling deadlines here, there and everywhere else. Not only was I burning the candle at both ends I managed to break it into a few extra pieces all rapidly burning like the fuse of a Wilie E. Coyote Acme bomb.
Every week I look forward to stealing a few moments to sit and write this column. It helps me feel connected to the motorcycle that impatiently waits for spring to arrive. Last week as a whirlwind of activity kept me away from the keyboard it also kept my mind away from winding highways, chasing the setting sun, man, machine, and freedom. I was instead consumed with thoughts of drywall, paint chips, and water heaters trying to float my freshly laid laminate flooring away.
I’m not making excuses. We’ve all been there at one time or the other. There is nothing more we would like to do then throw our leg over our steel horse and hit the open road. Blow off some steam to return to the tasks at hand with a clear mind, a settled soul. But sometime our only option is roll up our sleeves and get the job done. It means sometimes we have to forgo the people and things we love, with the hope that it will all pay off in the end, that our love ones will still be there on the other side.
My life is finally getting back to normal. Old Man Winter seems to be retreating. The house is as finished as it is going to get. I hit the gym for the first time in a long time. There are a few motorcycles out on the streets today, but with six foot snow banks and some streets impassable with even my wife’s 4×4, it is only the brave or the stupid who ride. It is only a matter of time before our brief window of summer will be upon us, open highways, open hearts beating to the passionate thump of our exhaust. Soon we will ride.

AUSSIE BIKER BEER BAN–
Northern Territory licensing laws are to be changed permanently so no NT pub can serve bikers wearing colours ever again.
An emergency directive was rushed through to stop the 200 Hells Angels now heading to Darwin from having a beer whilst wearing colours..
It’s reported the emergency ban will only last until April 11 then it expires.
Business Minister David Tollner has recommended the motion for a full time ban to Cabinet and it’s believed it’ll become a permanent rule for all pubs as soon as it passes Parliament.
The move could see young backpackers trying to throw bikers out of pubs.
Liquor Hospitality and Miscellaneous Workers union branch secretary Matthew Gardiner said such laws could cause tension.
“It puts people in confrontational positions for no real reason,” he said. The Hells Angels are on a run to Darwin for a club get-together on April 5.
Kulgera Roadhouse’s Tina Gausden said some had asked about taking off their colours, but they had been polite about it.
“The guys that have come through here have all been very well-mannered and friendly,” she said. Ms Gausden said she had only seen “dribs and drabs” of the rumoured 200-strong contingent at her premises, 21km from the South Australian border, and was wondering where they all were. Operation Sitara Commander Wayne Harris said outlaw motorcycle clubs were a concern as they were involved in extortion, murders, stealing and drugs.
Cmdr Harris said there had been significant trouble interstate between the Hells Angels and other motorcycle clubs.
Cmdr Harris would not specify whether police were worried about trouble with the Finks at Alice Springs.
He said they were not expecting a clash with the Rebels, or with outlaw motorcycle clubs in general, but hundreds of NT Police have been mobilised to blockade the Hells Angels, setting up multiple roadblocks.
BIKERNET JOURNALIST TURNED DOWN AT BRADENTON–It’s a no go at the Bradenton Motor Sports Park. I went to the track and spent about 15 minutes with her trying to explain the advantages of letting us cover their event, but she just didn’t get it. Not a happy person at all.
She acted as if I was trying to take advantage of them in some way. It was crazy. Anyway, she said our letters all went to the owners of the track directly, and she promised she would call them that night. I waited for 2 days and called her phone and left her a really nice message, asking her to call me back but she never has.
Well Bandit, I’m really sorry that we couldn’t get this set up. I was looking forward to shooting the show. Headed back to INDY in the next day or so. I hope something else will work out in the future at Bowling Green, Ky. I am friends with Dallas (the Owner) so we can always cover that show..

MAY/JUNE ISSUE OF IRONWORKS NO APRIL FOOLS’ JOKE–That’s right we’re not joking around in the May/June issue of IronWorks. We have some serious Feature Bikes starting off with “Pala Duro” built by RKB Kustom Speed shop.
This retro looking chopper has special family ties that are more rigid than the frame. You see the bike was originally his brothers. The next bike, “Nex Gen”, comes from Darren Ho out in Hawaii. Darren’s real job may is as a ship worker at Pearl Harbor, but his bike building skills may force a change in paradise.
“One For Charlie” comes from the Shadley Brothers who took a wrecked old Sporty and brought it back to life for one of their friends. This Hot Rod Red beauty sure doesn’t look like it did back in ‘78.
Then we have “Jay’s Bagger”. Jay Burns of Montana turned to his bud Paul Yaffe to transform his ’07 Road Glide into a highway hauler. This bike not only has that special yaffe style and parts, but an eye catching Tangelo Pearl paint job. Can you see me now? Next up is Part 2 of the Carl Morrow “Bad Dog” build. Here’s an expert telling how to do a custom bike build right. Put the speed into the bike, not the build.

Hector Arana Jr. leads the Pro Motorcycle class after the seasons opener in Gainsville, Fl. on a bad ass Buell. Matt Smith qualified number one on a Viper Motorcycle Co. Buell sponsored Buell with 6.804 @197.28. Followed closely by Arana Jr. with a 6.805 @197.36 mph. In the finals Sunday afternoon Arana Jr cut a .038 light against a sleepy .074 by Steve Johnson. Arana had a winning 6.888 @195.65 mph against a 6.909 @193.99 mph.
Our 5-Ball Racing Teams Raycer now has a freshly machined bushing for the custom shifter linkage, we should have a completed smooth as silk system by the weekend. The jet-black anodized Colorado Custom Wheels machined street risers are bolted in place, perfect fit and finish. The handlebar location feels great a few seconds at a time on the lift table. Once we hit the street for real engine hours and seat time we’ll fine-tune all systems. We’ll design and build clip- ons for Land Speed Racing with custom, proper length throttle and clutch cables hand crafted by the Crew at Barnett Clutches and Cables in Ventura, Ca.

SOUTH AUSTRALIAN M/C CLUB NUNBERS ‘ALMOST STATIC’–South Australia’s major motorcycle clubs have all recruited new members in the past year, the latest police figures reveal.
But while the Crime Gangs Task Force figures show the membership of the Hells Angels, Rebels, Finks and Descendants motorcycle clubs have grown, the overall number of club members has remained almost static.
Last February, there were 273 known club members, compared with 274 known members last month ranging across eight individual clubs.
The overall number of members has been maintained despite the extinction of the New Boyz (street gang) and near exit of the Comancheros from SA, which has been offset by recruiting undertaken by the major clubs.
In the past year, the Rebels have added 11 members to now number 46, the Hells Angels has grown by 10 members to 50, the Finks by four members to 56 and the Descendants have recruited another five members, taking its strength to 28 members.
Senior police yesterday said they were closely monitoring the increases in individual club memberships, but believed they were not unusual.
“The situation is constantly fluid. There are decreases and increases with each of them,” Crime Gangs Task Force officer-in-charge Detective Superintendent John DeCandia said.
“But we have not seen interstate people coming over to set up chapters or anything like that.”
He said club numbers had decreased in SA following the introduction of the anti-biker/anti-association legislation in 2008, but had steadily risen since it was knocked out in the Supreme Court, and subsequently, in the High Court in 2011. It remained to be seen what impact any looming use of the legislation may have on numbers.
Police said the fluctuating numbers of club members was not unique to SA, as evidenced by the recent surge in club numbers in Victoria to more than 1200.
“In relation to the Hells Angels, it’s hard to put your finger on why there would be a specific increase in their numbers,” Det. Supt. DeCandia said. While street gangs have been a significant recruiting ground for all clubs, prisons continued to feature prominently. “In many cases individuals chose to become aligned with club members in prison for their own protection,” he said.
Police say SA biker ‘violence’ has been highlighted by the bitter dispute between the Finks and Hells Angels over the past year, which culminated in the murder of panel beater and Finks associate Jason DeIeso, 33, at Pooraka last November.
The Finks have also been subject to a bloody internal power struggle that has seen two incidents become public – one in which an alleged associate was assaulted and then thrown over a cliff at Marino and another in which a senior member was almost killed in a beating at the club’s northside clubrooms.
Following the DeIeso murder police launched Task force Alpha to both investigate his killing and prevent retaliation and further violence between the Finks and Hells Angels.
The task force has so far been responsible for 27 arrests or reports of club members and 38 arrests or reports of associates for various offences. It has also seized 23 firearms and 576 rounds of ammunition, a home-made pipe bomb, ballistic vests, 36 cans of OC spray and five batons.
It has also been responsible for issuing 89 Finks and Hells Angels members and associates with barring orders preventing them from entering licensed premises and numerous public safety orders which prevented the targets from attending various events.
Operation Alpha has been supported by SAPOL’s overall club policing plan, launched in February last year, that places responsibility for policing club members on all officers. It has so far resulted in almost 3500 contacts with club members from traffic stops, interviews and house searches for contraband, with 78 firearms being seized and 260 members arrested or reported for various offences.

Claremont Drops Resolution Supporting Feinstein Gun Ban After Facing Strong Local NRA and CRPA Opposition–
Last month, a group of Claremont residents approached the City Council about drafting a resolution in support of the proposed federal “assault weapon” ban. The City Council placed a proposed resolution on the March 26 City Council Agenda to support the Feinstein Bill, which would ban “assault weapons” and implement stricter federal gun control measures.
The National Rifle Association (NRA) and California Rifle & Pistol Association (CRPA), reached out to local membership and urged constituents to attend the March 26th meeting and oppose this proposed resolution.
In the face of strong opposition from local NRA and CRPA members, the Claremont City Council removed the proposed “assault weapon” resolution from the City Council Agenda. For now at least, the City Council is not taking any further action on the proposed resolution.
With this latest success, the NRA and CRPA continue to defend the gun rights of Californians by fighting for the Second Amendment at the grassroots level. With continued local activism, the NRA and CRPA can continue to defeat ill-conceived proposals that curtail our Second Amendment rights.
And because their testimony makes a lot of common sense.

INCREDIBLE—We made serious progress this week, but next week I need to hit the next Mudflap Girl FXR tech hard. It will cover Centramatic wheel balancers, Digital Dawg keyless ignitions, the paint and rebuilding of my FXR. This bike rides and operates much better than before.
Last night I sped out to Pasadena to have duck and the Chinese House of Duck with a couple of bros. On the way back into town I picked up my Grandson, who sleeps all day, then wants to jump up and rock. I got him back over here and we started to launch him out the door on his Mudflap Girl FXR.
It was almost midnight before he aimed it at the dark streets. He’s 19 and his mom and I were nervous, as she text me, and I watched the FXR idle. Then I spotted sparking from one of the Crane spark plug wires to the head. We shut the bike down and repositioned the boot, my fault, and he finally peeled out.
I stayed by the phone as he peeled across town back to his mom’s house in Whittier. He made it, but we are still dealing with an electrical issue. Tim from Grip Ace, is our master electrical problem chaser. You’ll read the outcome, hopefully next week. Also next week, should launch the Bikernet Assalt Weapon II, our Streamlined Trike, when the frame arrives from Campagna Trikes. Never a dull moment.
