Incredible,
David Mann Chopperfest is happening right now in Ventura, and the Moon Eyes Christmas Party was rocking Irwindale yesterday.

My sorta granddaughter, Gen, sat on Santa’s lap yesterday and the boat parade rocked Long Beach last night. Next year will be Bikernet’s 20th year on the planet and I can’t seem to get a handle on it. I’m nervous. I’m searching for ways to improve.

I was supposed to be in the hospital having my left hip replaced right now, but they called and held me off, after much preparation. During my time in bed my plan is to finish the second Chance book. I need quiet time.
With my hip replaced I plan to ride my Indian to Sturgis and back this year. I can’t wait. I’m either going to ride with local Dyna-Glide mad men, or Dr. Hamster on his 1998 FLH.
Our team has expanded with Rogue and the Redhead. And although I’m always searching for ways to improve Bikernet or anything we do, I’ve discovered a solid fact. We hang in there, so we must do something right. I’ve worked with lots of contributors and guys in the industry who have bounced from magazine to magazine, business to business, but they can always rely on Bikernet.
We keep plugging along. Let’s hit the news.
REPORT FROM EUROPE– I just got back from an extended time away and I’m trying to re-coup. Started at the EICMA show then hung out with some of the MAG company folks until Custombike in Bad Salzuflen, Germany.
I’ll tell you, THAT is the show! Super well attended, in it’s 11th year, promoted by a magazine publisher no less. Amazing! Custombike, the magazine, is edited by a young woman whose stated goals for the editorial approach sounded like the things I always said when I talked about IronWorks. Too bad I can’t read German…

EASYRIDERS HISTORY CHALLENGE– Do you recall why Harley-Davidson pulled their advertisement from Easyriders that one month back in the ‘70s or perhaps early ‘80s? I believe Lou’s response was a black, empty page, with Lou writing that H-D pulled their ad for a specific reason. Does this ring a bell? Do you know the reason? Would you ask around the office for me.
I’m curious as to the reason and what issue of Easyriders this was.
I remember H-D got so much flack for pulling the ad that the following issue H-D had two or three ads in Easyriders.
–John Kimzey
Here was my initial response. Let me know if you find the issue:
You’re testing my memory. But it seems that when we went topless, they dropped us. The dealers said that was bullshit and brought the ads back. I’m not sure the timing. Do you have a set of mags? Let me see what I can find.
–Bandit
Nancy:
It may have had something to do with AMF buying Harley and not liking the “lifestyle” of Easyriders. I remember dad being angry because Dad felt that Easyriders brought the resurgence of Harley’s popularity back. I was there at the time doing the paste up.
I don’t remember what it said.
I was working there, at the Ranch, late 70’s
late 77, 78, 79 best I can narrow it down.
My recollection was that we were waiting for the ad to arrive and left a space for it in the layout – and the pulled it at the last possible second. No way to re-design anything.
–Louis Kimzey
I don’t know what issue your talking about. I think the dispute was Harley wanted a helmet on a rider in an ad and Lou said, “No helmets.” I can’t recall the approximate year.
–Nancy Kimzey
Lots of different opinions. If you find the issue, we’ll get to the bottom of this. I believe it was in the early ‘70s.–Bandit

GHSA NEWS LETTER DISCOVERED IN THE ALLEY– This is the current electronic newsletter that just arrived.
Administrative burdens on SHSOs are lessened by: Formalizing the development of an electronic
Highway Safety Plan submission process;
Amending Maintenance of Effort (MOE) requirements; And Revising the number of days for NHTSA review of HSP and Section 405 grant applications. Adjustments to the distracted
driving, graduated drivers licensing and ignition interlock incentive grants will make the programs less prescriptive and allow more states to qualify for funds.
A new incentive grant is created to address pedestrian and bicyclist safety. Drugged driving is prioritized by: Allowing Section 405(d) impaired driving countermeasure funds to be used for both alcohol and drug-impaired driving prevention activities; and Requiring the NHTSA Administrator to work with GHSA and other stakeholders to find ways to increase public awareness about the dangers of drugged driving.
In addition, the FAST Act requires that U.S. DOT publish which states applied for each Section 405 incentive grant, whether or not they qualified, and which criteria non-qualifying states failed to meet. This will help states determine what changes are necessary to qualify for grants in future years. While the new law is very positive for SHSOs, some provisions are concerning.
For example, it eliminates the ability for the Highway Safety Improvement
Program (HSIP) to be used for non-infrastructure related safety
projects and public education activities. It also requires states
to use Section 402 funds to produce a biennial survey of automated
enforcement programs in their state, even though they
cannot use these same funds to implement such programs. The
FAST Act also prohibits the use of federal funds for motorcycle
helmet checkpoints.
GHSA looks forward to working
with NHTSA and other federal, state and local partners to implement the FAST Act and congratulates Congress and the
Administration on this important accomplishment.

WEEKEND GUN NUT REPORT SPONSORED BY NINO 925– Action Needed! Urge Your U.S. Rep to Vote Against Any Anti-Gun Amendments.
In the wake of last week’s horrific shooting in San Bernardino, California, President Obama and the usual cast of anti-gun politicians were — again — quick to exploit an act of terrorism to push for more gun control.
NRA members need to call their U.S. Representatives today at 202-224-3121 and urge them to vote NO on any and all anti-gun amendments!
The president suggested the NRA was somehow to blame for the tragedy, and when addressing the nation over the weekend, he predictably called for new gun laws.
This time, the president is pushing for a law that would prohibit the sale of firearms to anybody on a secret government black list. A list so secretive that nobody knows how you get on the list or how you get off the list – completely disregarding one of the pillars of our Constitution – due process. And worst of all, he did it under the guise of “national security.”
As Congress nears the end of the legislative session, it continues to seek an agreement on a government funding bill. However, anti-gun members of congress are attempting to use this as an opportunity to attach gun control legislation to this funding bill.
We reported on just such an attempt last week, as a group of anti-gun U.S. Senators schemed to bring several gun control measures to the Senate floor, setting up a dramatic showdown over Second Amendment rights. Fortunately, reason prevailed and all of the anti-gun amendments were defeated.
With Obama and his anti-gun cronies seemingly more determined to go after our Second Amendment than stopping terrorism, it’s time your voice is heard.
As NRA-ILA Executive Director Chris Cox noted in a recent USA Today op-ed, the NRA is calling on the president to stop exploiting tragedies to push his failed political agenda. Your legislators need to hear the same message.
NRA members need to call their U.S. Representatives today at 202-224-3121 and urge them to vote NO on any and all anti-gun amendments that may be attached to the omnibus funding bill or any other legislation that may come to the floor. Tell them to fight terrorism, not our gun rights!

BIKERNET RESTAURANT REVIEW– Chick-Fil-A Customer Stunned By What He Finds On Unattended Table… He Was Speechless
Chick-fil-A, the same fast-food outlet that constantly gets accused by liberals of being evil, has once again proved the opposite to the world.
This time it did so by unveiling an amazing Veterans Day tribute that left Georgia resident Eric Comfort in complete shock.
According to a Facebook post he published on Monday, when he walked into a local Chick-fil-A, Comfort discovered a “Missing Man Table” that contained a single rose, a Bible and a folded American flag, as well as a plaque within which was the following explanation:
“This table is reserved to honor our missing comrades in arms. The tablecloth is white — symbolizing the purity of their motives when answering the call of duty. The single red rose, displayed in a vase, reminds us of the life of each of the missing and their loved ones and friends of these Americans who keep the faith, awaiting answers. The vase is tied with a red ribbon, symbol of our continued determination to account for our missing. A pinch of salt symbolizes the tears endured by those missing and their families who seek answers. The Bible represents the strength gained through faith to sustain those lost from our country, founded as one nation under God. The glass is inverted — to symbolize their inability to share this evening’s toast. The chair is empty — they are missing.”
After the story went viral, the store manager, Alex Korchan, explained to WSB that his team members had set up the table because they “wanted to honor veterans.”
Furthermore, he revealed that he planned to offer free meals to all veterans and their family members this Veterans Day between the hours of 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Korchan also put up a poster so that customers could write in the names of loved ones who they have lost.
“We’ve had a lot of people who have come in and seen it and been touched by it,” Korchan continued. “It’s been special to see.”

THE WEEKEND AUSTRALIAN REPORT– THE WEEKEND AUSTRALIAN REPORT–Aussie bikers promise Queenland government a costly legal battle in fight over VLAD repeal
Friday, 11 December 2015
Queensland’s bikers are threatening further expensive legal challenges to the state’s controversial anti-biker/anti-association laws as they lobby the Government for their repeal.
It comes as Queensland police detail the low level of convictions despite widening application of the laws — and lawyers and even the state’s anti-corruption body express concerns about them.
A submission by Queenslands peak biker organization the United Motorcycle Council of Queensland (UMCQ) to the “taskforce” set up by the Palaszczuk Government to review the suite of tough anti-biker laws introduced in 2013 by the former Newman LNP administration, says the legislation is “vulnerable for further challenges in various courts”.
“Given the determination of the UMCQ and its members to see the end of this legislation it will continue to be litigated until there are final determinations by superior courts. This will inevitably result in considerable expense to ultimately club members and to the State of Queensland.”
The UMCQ helped fund a High Court challenge to some aspects of the laws last year, brought on behalf of a Hells Angels member.
The High Court found the applicant had no standing because he had not been charged under the laws.
But its findings have made it harder for police to prosecute people under the anti-association provisions of the laws.
The UMCQ claims 100 people have been charged but none convicted under the anti-association laws, which make it illegal for three or more members of a “declared criminal organization” to meet in public.
UMCQ spokesman Mick Kosenko says bikers had spent about $1 million fighting the laws, including about $100,000 by the so-called “Yandina Five”, a group of men charged after meeting in a pub on the Sunshine Coast.
He said he and “about 2,000 others in the same boat” had no choice but to fight the laws because of the effect on their livelihoods.
The laws also target bikers who work in the tattoo, towing and security industries with special licensing conditions.
“If these laws stay my life’s ruined,” Mr Kosenko, who runs a tattoo business, said.
In separate submissions to the taskforce, Queensland Police (QPS) calls for the laws to be kept in place, stating that members of “outlaw motorcycle criminal gangs” are 25 times more likely to commit crime than the general population.
But the QPS says it “acknowledges the concerns raised by some stakeholders in relation to examining opportunities to temper the robust nature of the legislation”.
The QPS reveals that 100 people have been charged under the Vicious Lawless Associate Disestablishment (VLAD) Act, of which just 20 were members of “outlaw motorcycle criminal gangs” and a further 11 were “associates”.
The VLAD provides for mandatory additional sentences of 15 years for a wide range of offences committed by members of criminal organizations, or 25 years if it can be proved they are an “office bearer” of the organization.
In its submission, the Queensland Bar Association attacks the VLAD laws.
“Mandatory sentencing increases police and prosecutorial discretion, which, because it is largely invisible and unreviewable, leads to potential for abuse and injustice,” the body writes.
And a submission to the taskforce by the Queensland Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC), which has investigated a range of biker-related crime over the past 10 years, compares the VLAD sentencing regime with “draconian” anti-graft RICO laws in the United States.
“Similarly, the approach under the VLAD legislation, where a condign sentence well in excess of what the substantive offence would attract is imposed because the person is a participant in a criminal organization may be considered unduly harsh,” the CCC says.
But police praise the deterrent effect and intelligence value of VLAD, which allows for leniency if suspects provide statements implicating others.
“The QPS considers this incentive to cooperate results in a breaking down of the code of silence and opens up opportunities to dismantle criminal networks,” the QPS tells the taskforce.
Despite this, the police documents detail only eight examples where people had provided statements.
There has been one conviction under VLAD since it was introduced in 2013, of a drug trafficker with no connections to bikers.
Before it won minority government in January, Labor promised to repeal the anti-association aspects of the laws.
The taskforce, led by former Supreme Court judge Alan Wilson, is due to report in March.
Mr Kosenko said there needed to be careful management of the fall-out from any repeal of the laws.
He noted previous grandstanding by some clubs on the Gold Coast, warning: “Imagine if they drop the laws, you’re going to get people like the Bandidos jumping up and down, and you know, it’s going to be crazy.”
“There’s got to be a big liaison between us and the police and the Government … a big sit down, and say, ‘how are we going to sort this mess out?’.”
I say they list all the government corruption over the last 20 years, and then turn these laws on the source.–Bandit
