Merry Merry,
What a crazy holiday season. We have been lost in a befuddling fog. It’s sort of the black icing on the leather cake for a tough year. But I won’t go into all the elements right now. It’s not bad, just tough. I’ll hold off for the state of the Bikernet Union address nearer to the 1st. We need to kick back now, celebrate and enjoy the Holidays.
Let’s hit the news, then maybe I can get to work on the 1928 Shovelhead with Rivera primary drive. Somehow we are going to dial that puppy in, get it registered and ready to ride.

AUSTRALIAN CLUBS DRAWN TO MIXED MARTIAL ARTS SCENE–International motorcycle clubs are said to be ‘infiltrating’ the multi-billion-dollar mixed martial arts business, which at the weekend held its annual Australian headline event on the Gold Coast.
Mixed martial arts, which includes the US-based Ultimate Fighting Championship and the local Cage Fighting Championship, is among the fastest growing sports in the world, but remains relatively unregulated in Australia.
Australia’s first UFC bout, in Sydney’s Acer Arena in 2010, broke all records for ticket and merchandise sales.
Police in Canada have allegedly warned their Australian counterparts that motorcycle clubs are seeking a slice of the lucrative trade.
The NSW government is reviewing its legislation governing the sport, with the explicit intention of driving out the influence of organised crime.
“It’s certainly become more and more obvious that there are members of outlaw motorcycle gangs involved in the combat sports field, both in terms of combatants and promoters and trainers,” NSW police acting organised crime director Arthur Katsogiannis said. “You’ve got these international links, which has led to international networks between gangs, for transporting their drugs, other commodities and firearms.”
Police sources said bikers had been involved, both as fighters and promoters, in bouts held at Sydney’s Penrith Panthers club, as well as using the sport to boost their influence within the illicit steroid trade.
Australian Crime Commission figures show authorities made more than 5500 seizures of steroids and growth hormones in 2010-11, more than double the year before and the highest in a decade.
One alleged biker ‘source’ said club members were turning to the combat sports industry partly because of the money on offer, but also because the police crackdown on the clubs’ traditional activities was proving effective.
“It’s working. The late-night knocks on the door, being pulled up constantly for parole checks, it’s driving them out,” said the source. “They see that they can make money here without the constant attention.”
Bikers have long been linked to traditional combat sports such as boxing; in 2006, a kickboxing event on the Gold Coast descended into a brawl between members of the Hells Angels and Finks clubs.
Mixed martial arts is the most recent, booming sector of the industry, with the UFC alone valued at more than $3 billion and commanding a worldwide television audience in the hundreds of millions.
Saturday’s UFC event, held at the Gold Coast Convention Centre and featuring Australian-born fighter George Sotiropoulos among its headline acts, was broadcast live in the US.

HOT ROD HAMSTER DEAL OF THE WEEK–
’49 Ford 8BA Flathead Motor & Trans
Date: 2012-12-20, 2:15PM
Good COMPLETE 8BA Ford flathead motor and 3/spd transmission.
EVERYTHING is there, on the motor except the air cleaner. Motor ran and ran good when it was removed from ’51 Ford. Although it has been sitting (on a stand) for a couple of years.
Asking $1200 for both. I believe that’s a fair price for both items. And I think I still have the clutch & pressure plates as well.
As a matter of fact I KNOW I do
Any questions please feel free to call me (Jim) at 760 433 5931

WHY I LOVE OLDER WOMEN–
She walked up and tied her old mule to the hitch rail. As she stood there, brushing some of the dust from her face and clothes, a young gunslinger stepped out of the saloon with a gun in one hand and a bottle of whiskey in the other.
The young gunslinger looked at the old woman and laughed, saying, “Hey old woman, have you ever danced?”
The old woman looked up at the gunslinger and said, “No, I never did dance… Never really wanted to.”
A crowd had gathered as the gunslinger grinned and said, “Well, you old bag, you’re gonna dance now,” and started shooting at the old woman’s feet.
The old woman prospector – not wanting to get her toe blown off – started hopping around.
Everybody was laughing.
The young gunslinger heard the sounds too, and he turned around very slowly. The silence was almost deafening.
The crowd watched as the young gunman stared at the old woman and the large gaping holes of those twin barrels.
The barrels of the shotgun never wavered in the old woman’s hands, as she quietly said, “Son, have you ever licked a mule’s butt?”
The gunslinger swallowed hard and said, “No mam… But… I’ve always wanted to.”
There are a few lessons for us all here:
1 – Never be arrogant.
2 – Don’t waste ammunition.
3 – Whiskey makes you think you’re smarter than you are.
4 – Always, always make sure you know who has the power.
5 – Don’t mess with old women; they didn’t get old by being stupid…
I just love a story with a happy ending, don’t you?

India Ride Team Used Cardo scala rider G9 to Aid Communication in Tough Terrain –
World’s Most Advanced Wireless Bluetooth Motorcycle Communication System
PITTSBURGH, PA – Cardo Systems, Inc., the world’s market leader in wireless Bluetooth communications for motorcycle helmets, today announced it sponsored the recently completed “The India Ride” (www.theindiaride.com), an ambitious 14,000 kilometer, 54-day motorcycle journey around India. The India Ride was completed by Ryan and Colin Pyle, two brothers who previously completed the Middle Kingdom Ride, a Guinness Book of World Records circumnavigation of China.
Through their epic journey the brothers used the Cardo scala rider G9 to communicate with each other and their support and filming team. The product is the most advanced motorcycle helmet communication system that enables clear and reliable wireless, bike-to-bike intercom communication.
Operating at a range of up to one mile, the scala rider G9 enabled both riders to relay important information, which proved to be especially vital while they were traversing difficult and dangerous terrain. Cardo had previously also sponsored the Middle Kingdom ride of brothers Ryan and Colin, who used Cardo’s scala rider® communication system on their grueling adventure ride around China.
“The scala rider absolutely enhanced our trip and allowed us to communicate and ride with four eyes instead of just two,” said Ryan Pyle. The India Ride team encountered harsh conditions during the journey including injuries, landslides, harrowing road hazards, construction, and altitudes above 16,000 feet. The entire journey was recorded by professional videographers, and will be presented on television in the third or fourth quarter of 2013.
Many of the device’s functions can be managed by voice commands, allowing riders such as Ryan and Colin to keep all of their attention focused on the road.
The scala rider G9 is now available at select distributors, retail outlets, and specialty shops. For more information, please visit www.cardosystems.com.

Spike sat down in the camping chair in his garage and opened another beer. ZZ Top blasted from the stereo. Those days when he couldn’t ride just sitting out there with his bike made him feel a little better. He thought about his best friend, Al, and Spike had been friends for way more years than he could ever begin to remember.
They lived a hell of a lot and been fortunate enough to do a lot of stuff that a lot of people only dream of. He saw it in the eyes of the guys they blasted past every summer, guys driving mini vans loaded with kids. Guys that had wet dreams about riding a Harley cross-country to places like Santa Rosa, Deadwood, Manitou Springs, Cheyenne and Devil’s Tower. He loved the look on the faces of the little boys in their parent’s car as he rolled past, always taking time to give them a thumbs up!!
“Damn it’s cold,” Al said, no, he hollered it! “Whoo, shit, I can’t feel my fingers again,” as he fumbled to get the gas cap on. His mind began to wander as a picture began to slowly form in his mind….a bottle of Jose Cuervo…..an ice cold bottle of Bud Light…a brand new 1980 FXE…a fine set of knockers attached to a beautiful really, really tall woman with fire engine red hair!! “Wait a second,”Al thought as his mind slowly drifted back to reality, “That’s it…Spike!” Yea! I haven’t seen my hombre in forever!” “Yea, whoo whoo, I am gonna go see Spike” Al could feel it as he headed south on I25…a new adventure.
Spike slammed an ice cold shot of Jose and washed it down with a big swallow of beer. He was feeling pretty good and only one thing could have improved on the moment, that was if his oldest and bestest bro and fellow Ol’ Desperado was there. They called themselves the “Two Ol’ Desperadoes”, not because they had been in jail or did anything very illegal. Spike had shown his mother a picture of the two of them in South Dakota a few years earlier and she said they looked like a couple of old desperadoes and the name stuck!
He needed to ride and Al was the best to ride with! They didn’t always get where they wanted to go and they sure as hell didn’t do it very efficiently, but DAMN, they sure had fun!! The more he thought about it the more excited he got. Spike grabbed up the phone and punched in Al’s number, but all he got was “Hola Amigo”. He didn’t bother with the rest of the message. Next he dialed Al’s home number. He had to stop Paula in the middle of her heavy breathing, a little joke between the two, Spike loved that but he had more important things on his mind tonight.

BIKERNET UNIVERSITY ENGLISH DEPARTMENT RELAXING HOLIDAY WORD OF THE DAY–
douce doos, adjective:
Sedate; modest; quiet.
— Hilary Mantel, Wolf Hall
— Edited by Gardner Dozois, The Year’s Best Science Fiction: Nineteenth Annual Collection

BIKERNET MEDICAL CENTER HOLIDAY STRESS ALERTS–
The holidays can bring joy, comfort and peace – but for some, it can also bring unhealthy stress. Use the Sunday Weekend Tips throughout this month for simple ways to de-stress that everyone can use, courtesy of Dr. Weil’s website SpontaneousHappiness.com.
As we age, getting quality sleep may become more dream than reality. If you are having trouble sleeping, consider mantram, the practice of repeating over and over in the mind certain syllables, words or phrases that help unify consciousness and counteract negative mental states.
It is especially helpful for people with restless minds, whose turbulent thoughts keep them from relaxing, concentrating and falling asleep. The repetition of a verbal formula is a way of focusing the thinking mind and counteracting the damage done to both mind and body by thoughts that produce anxiety, agitation and unhappiness.
You can practice mantram anywhere – it is a totally portable technique, requires no training or equipment, and can be used in any circumstance, so long as you don’t practice it while doing something that otherwise requires your undivided attention, like driving. Try experimenting with it – choose a word, sound or phrase that is pleasing to you, and repeat it. If your mind wanders, simply focus back on the word. You will be amazed at the results.

THE BATTLE FOR GUN RIGHTS IS HERE AND WE NEED YOUR HELP–
NRA initially withheld comment about the horrible crime that took place in Newtown, Connecticut last week, out of respect for the families of the crime’s victims and other residents of that community, and while law enforcement officials there conducted their investigation. However, President Obama and a usual cast of characters, in keeping with their longstanding practice of not letting any crisis go to waste, quickly used the tragedy to push their gun ban agenda.??
Obama took to the national airwaves to plead his case for additional gun control laws, and appointed longtime gun control supporter Vice-President Joe Biden to head a task force to formalize the president’s gun control plans by no later than January.??The administration’s efforts are being aided and abetted by their anti-Second Amendment allies in Congress, particularly Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-N.Y.), Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.), and Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA).
As we previously reported, Sen. Feinstein’s crusade to ban more guns preceded the Newtown shootings. As early last month, Feinstein started to refine her most recent “assault weapons” bill that “would ban pistol grips and ‘high-capacity’ magazines.”
Though the public has not seen the final wording of her impending legislation, there is no question what the zealous senator would do, if she could. After getting her first “assault weapon” and “large” magazine ban imposed in 1994, she told a reporter, “If I could have gotten 51 votes in the Senate of the United States for an outright ban, picking up every one of them – Mr. and Mrs. America, turn them all in – I would have done it.”??
And, if you think the latest gun control debate will be limited solely to legislation to ban semi-autos and “large capacity” magazines, think again. Calls have already been renewed to subject all private sales of firearms to background checks, even among family members and friends, and to end mail-order sales of ammunition.??We knew that this fight was coming. But it’s now crystal clear that this latest round is on an expedited track and the corresponding rhetoric has been amped up exponentially.
NRA OFFERS COMMON SENSE SOLUTIONS– Today, NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre, along with NRA President David Keene, and Asa Hutchison (former Congressman, U.S. Attorney, Director of the Drug Enforcement Agency, and Undersecretary of the Department of Homeland Security) held a press conference in Washington, D.C. to outline some of NRA’s suggestions to increase safety at schools.
She replies, “I’m not sure if it’s in yet.”
The man said, “That’s the one. I’ll take a copy.”

MRF

The check was cashed, so I know they received my order. I assume that their shipping warehouse is overworked and inventory is becoming depleted because of the unique items they offer at great prices. They do not take phone orders. Don’t bother ordering the free flashlight. You have to visit their store for that.
Good luck. Hope you find something you need.
By the way, they also have great parking lot sales. They are held in April, June, September, and November. The April sale is held on 28, 29, and 30th. The rest are on the 31st of the month. I haven’t put those dates on my schedule yet, but I’m looking forward to going to one real soon.
Be sure to clip the coupons.

CRAZY HOLIDAYS—First we have the end of the world, the shooting in Connecticut, politics, Sandy, and numerous other upheavals. I’m sure I’m not alone, but we keep smiling and moving ahead. For some moving ahead is the only option. It keeps you focused on tomorrow and not today. It keeps you centered on all the good to come, and not current obstacles. Finally, it keeps your mind open and keenly aware of new information and new opportunities.
I try to support the MRF and the Red Cross. The MRF is our connection to Washington and motorcycling. And the Red Cross is on the spot during any disaster. I was once on the Board of Directors of the American Red Cross in Ventura, California. They dealt with lots of flooding and earthquake preparedness. I’ve been working with the MRF to form an Industry Council. The MRF and motorcycle rights is having a tough time with memberships. If you can help them out–terrific. We hope to help all of our sponsors become members in 2013.
So what’s coming up on Bikernet? We are working on a new Girl of Bikernet, a feature on probably the finest Crocker in the world, and maybe a collection of Crockers. We are working on several techs with Rivera-Primo including the Shovelhead belt drive I’m working on now. Rogue is working on a tech with Zippers and so is Steve Bauman. I’m working on a Evo Crane Cams tech, and a midnight rider story from the ‘70s and I’m getting close. I’m also working on a dresser tie-down tech with Eric Bennett, and a new bike and girl feature from Petter Linney. You’ll love these bikes.
We have lots more to report as we roll toward the end of the year. What a year 2013 will be. Plenty of surprises. And don’t hesitate to contact us for any reason, for an editorial suggestion, to a tech question. We will get back to you. Now, take a break, and enjoy the holidays.
Ride forever,
–Bandit
