An accident on the 210 Freeway in Los Angeles injured six people and may have started with the driver of a pickup truck deliberately striking a motorcyclist, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The accident occurred about 7 p.m. Saturday just west of Irwindale Avenue in Irwindale.

According to the CHP’s preliminary investigation, six motorcycles were heading west at 65 mph in the No. 1 lane when a black pickup in the No. 4 lane cut across the freeway, hitting one of the motorcycles. That caused a chain reaction with the other five motorcycles, and at least two of those bikes struck a BMW in the carpool lane.

The CHP said the driver of the pickup may have intentionally struck the motorcycles.

The truck was gone by the time rescue workers arrived. As of Sunday afternoon, the CHP had no license plate number or information on the driver.

Six people were injured in the crash, said Ed Pickett, supervising dispatcher for the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Four of them were taken to hospitals, two in critical condition. The other two had minor injuries.

Anyone with information is asked to call the CHP’s Baldwin Park station at (626) 338-1164.
