Fall PRE-VEGAS Thursday News

Hey,

This is one of those days where I’m not sure which way to turn. I could build bikes and get my Mudflap girl purring. The Wire plus speedos landed, and fab Kevin helped me with a Mudflap girl shift linkage.

It’s sort of a tribute to a talented builder who is no longer in business. I couldn’t reach Justin at Two-Bit choppers, who made this Bikernet Air Cleaner for me several years ago. Since he was out of the running, I asked Fab Kevin if he could make me a Two-Bit Mudflap Girl shift linkage, and it arrived the other day.

Man, I’m close on this project. And if Frank, my son, would dig up a handful of parts we could be caught up with his bike. I feel like I’m running in a handful of directions today, but the vibe is upbeat. Let’s hit it:

LIFE LESSON FROM THE BIKERNET UNIVERSITY SOCIAL STUDIES CLASS–

A turkey was chatting with a bull.
‘I would love to be able to get to the top of that tree’ sighed the turkey, ‘but I haven’t got the energy.’

‘Well, why don’t you nibble on some of my droppings?’ replied the bull.
They’re packed with nutrients.?

The turkey pecked at a lump of dung, and found it actually gave him enough strength to reach the lowest branch of the tree…

The next day, after eating some more dung, he reached the second branch.

Finally after a fourth night, the turkey was proudly perched at the top of the tree.

He was promptly spotted by a farmer, who shot him out of the tree.

Moral of the story:
Bull Shit might get you to the top, but it won’t keep you there.

THE STORY OF JASON’S NEW RIDE–   “I bought a new bike!” beamed my friend as he stepped through the door. With his grin from ear to ear it would hard to mistake that he had anything but good news. Jason is your classical biker. Long hair and solo – breaking hearts everywhere he goes. He rebuilt his Ironhead Sportster with its rigid frame, coffin tank and girder front end in his living room. This wasn’t years ago like many of us, but last year. Jason is living the lifestyle and loving it. And who can blame him. Jason lives by that code that so many take for granted today. He still is the one broken down on the side of the road trying to breath spark into an old motor. He is the one by the bonfire kicking over a bike that most would dismiss as parts. He is one of the ones who gets it.

Jason flashed me a picture of his new machine on his phone. I expected an old Knuckle or Pan, something that someone had neglected for years in a barn somewhere waiting for the right guy to come along. I was surprised to see a black and white ’06 Softail Deluxe.

As I squinted at the picture I doubled checked to make sure he wasn’t pulling my leg. Sure enough, Jason has broken down and bought all the creature features. He is now spoiled with such things as electric start, suspension, speedometer, front brake, and hand clutch. As usual, for around here, Jason got his bike from Rick at Yorkton Harley-Davidson. Those familiar with Rick and his business know he goes out of his way for his customers and having been more than willing to help Jason with rebuilding the Ironhead, Rick was there again. He gave him a great price (several thousand cheaper than other dealerships) and financing. He also met him half way with the bike, bought Jason and his friend lunch and beers and made sure they were well care for.

So has Jason gone soft like some many of us have? No. I still saw him bobbing around on the Ironhead. He even mentioned about maybe putting some paint on the old girl this winter, and if I know Jason that means pushing the furniture out of the way, throwing some old Navajo blankets down and doing it in the living room.

WIRE PLUS INTRODUCES Power, Lighting Control Modules and Wiring Harnesses for Most Custom Production Bikes–Winfield, KS- Many custom production bikes that were being made in the 90’s –mid-2000’s are now experiencing electrical problems due to a variety of reasons. Bike owners can now go to a one-stop company for all of their electrical needs…Wire Plus. Over the last 16 years, Wire Plus has produced a wide variety of individual power and lighting modules and wiring harnesses at the builders and manufacturers requests. Finding electrical parts is no longer like “looking for a needle in a haystack” for these custom production bikes.

Wire Plus’ sells their power control, lighting control and auto cancel modules separately or as part of a complete kit and can be plugged right into the existing harness with no hassle. Their power modules are submersible waterproof and very compact in size with harnesses that are engineered to be smaller than any other on the market.

The lighting control module controls the operation of the front, rear turn signals, and provides load equalization and auto cancelling. It also operates the rear turn signals as brake lights and running lights with one wire hook-up. Wire Plus’ main focus is on the reliability of everything that they manufacture.

Their pre-assembled wiring harnesses are designed for bikes with and without stock or aftermarket ignitions, electric or kick start and can be used with or without turn signals and a variety of other options. These mid-frame harnesses are for completely rewiring any manufacturers bikes…including older Harleys
These replacement modules and wiring harnesses work on all of the following models…

Because of their geographic versatility, bell peppers are found in many types of traditional cuisine, from Mexican and European to Chinese and Creole dishes. Extraordinarily versatile, bell peppers can be eaten raw as crudités or in a salad; stuffed and baked; sautéed or stir-fried. Purchase bell peppers that are free of blemishes, and always seek out organically grown varieties.

NH RESIDENTS LAUNCH PETITION AGAINST LOUD MOTORCYCLES–
AP New Hampshire residents are petitioning in support of a law that sets standards for motorcycle noise levels. By Roni Reino, Foster’s Daily Democrat Posted Sept. 17, 2011, at 5:22 a.m. DOVER, N.H. — A group of Granite State citizens have initiated a petition in support of reducing motorcycle noise pollution around the state.

The new law, “An Act To Reduce Motorcycle And Noise Pollution,” NH RSA 266:59-a, introduced by Michele Peckham, R-North Hampton, would repeal the current law that allows a maximum of 106 decibels and replace it with the federal Environmental Protection Agency label law that allows a maximum of 80 dB. Maine passed a similar law last spring, using the EPA label as a standard for all motorcycles manufactured after 1982.

“Regular exposure to sound over 100 dB of more than one minute risks permanent hearing loss, according to the National Institute on Deafness of the National Institute of Health,” Mitchell said. “And may be implicated in heart disease and hypertension.”

The act would apply to motorcycles manufactured after January 2013. Enforcement and compliance would be accomplished through the required annual inspection rather than by expensive and time-consuming police checkpoints.

The online petition has so far received more than 120 signatures from both New Hampshire and out-of-state residents.

“As residents of New Hampshire, we are constantly subject to the excessive noise generated from motorcycles and vehicles which have been modified with exhaust systems purely for the purpose of making noise,” reads the petition. “They are a nuisance, a public disturbance and they detract from the overall quality of life in our state.”

Area residents also signed the petition, saying the noise levels are upsetting.

“As part owner of a property on Route 1A, I am disturbed by the constant noise of motorcycles outside my window, day and night, all summer long,” said North Hampton resident Charles Sullivan.

The petition, created by the New Hampshire Citizens Against Loud Motorcycles, can be found at www.ipetitions.com/petition/nhcalm

Noise pollution, noise terrorism, bullshit. How about Noise protection from distracted drivers, or how about noise freedom. We need and want the noise. And a motorcycle passing anyone at 40 mph will only impact their space for a few seconds. Someone stop this world, I want to get off.–Bandit

ZIPPERS AND RED SHIFT CAMS–For over 3 decades, Red Shift Cams have been the choice of high performance engine builders.
Master engine developer and Red Shift camshaft designer Dick Hilferty has always been at the forefront in all forms of racing and performance applications. Today Dick’s designs are manufactured at Zipper’s with the most advanced engineering design processes built into every cam. Zipper’s has always believed that power gains should be achieved by improved dynamics and efficiency, not by compromising valve train component reliability. Let Red Shift create the power that you desire while protecting the investment that you have in your engine and valve train.

The stroked crankshaft in the 96″ engine changes the dynamic from ’06 and earlier model 88″ engines, making correct cam choice crucial to avoid engine damaging detonation with today’s fuel quality. All models require adjustable pushrods and are available in chain or gear drive. Spring work required unless otherwise noted as a bolt-in cam. We recommend new cam bearings and performance tappets with any cam change. These cams can also be used in 2006 FXD engines.

ThunderMax Cams by Red Shift for 07-Up TC
575-HS: Bolt-in cams for 96, 103 and 110 inch engines with stock, unmodified heads. Great bolt-in upgrade for stock 96 or 110″ engines; also works well in 96 to103″ conversions. Lowers engine temperatures, increases torque and horsepower across the board, with emphasis on torque. Made in U.S.A.

GEAR DRIVE – Red Shift 575-HS Cams for ’07-up TC Models 577-HS: The cam to use for 2007-up 103″and up conversion engines with flat-top pistons and stock or ported heads (bolt-in with stock conical springs). Provides smooth power without detonation. Broader timing for lower cranking compression and lower temperatures; great mid-range torque with strong top-end pull.

GEAR DRIVE – Red Shift 577-HS Cams for ’07-up TC Models 657-HS: 107″ and Larger Engines. Max torque grind for ’07up larger displacement engines with heavy payload. Narrower timing increases compression for more low-end grunt. Excellent valve train dynamics for long life. Works well with most bagger exhaust.

GEAR DRIVE – Red Shift 657-HS Cams for ’07-up TC Models 647-HS: 113″ and larger engines. Max power grind for ’07up larger displacement engines. Broader timing for higher compression applications. Great valve train dynamics for long life. Compliments high flow heads, intake and exhaust.

A NOTE FROM THE BIKERNET FAMILY COUNSELING CENTER– I’ve spoke to maybe six guys who are having trouble with their women, stuff that doesn’t make sense. After thoroughly investigating this issue, I have come to the hard insurmountable fact. The answer was right in front of us. The Meteor that has entered our galaxy has upset the female neutrons. The heavenly balance usually surrounding the softer set has teetered off its axis, but soon normality will once again find its rightful place in the heavens, and calm will once again be restored. If not, I’ll meet you in Mexico.

You can thank me with a shot of fine Irish whiskey in the near future. —

THE RIPPER RAFFLE

In 2009, After 21 years of building motorcycles and V-Twin parts at American Made Manufacturing Paul Cavallo forged Spitfire Motorcycles in the smoldering ashes of a Hellbound economy. He built a motorcycle to inaugurate his new endeavor and began a raffle. He called the raffle “Win The Rippers bike” since his name on Chop Cult is “Ripper” and he had built the bike. The raffle took on it’s own life and eventually the bike became know as “The Ripper.” That was over a year ago.

The Ripper will be won on October 2nd 2011 after the announcing of the winner of the Artistry In Iron competition. Every man knows it’s a numbers game and the more tickets you purchase the better your odds. Raffle tickets will be sold in bulk at the show and are available currently on line.

$20.00 = Poster + 1 Raffle Ticket

$50.00 = Poster + 3 Raffle Tickets

$100.00 = Poster + 7 Raffle Tickets and a T-Shirt

Paul is also of the featured Artistry In Iron builders and will be presenting his entry, Rollin’ Bones at the show. There is some innovative construction on this build and you’ll definitely wanna get a peak as to why it’s called Rollin Bones.

Best of luck and hope you win!

THE AUSTRALIAN CONNECTION–This is a simple concept that I have been working on for most of my life. I am delighted to say that I believe I have refined it sufficiently to share it with a select band of friends that may appreciate its elegance and simplicity.

THE HARLEY-DAVIDSON CONNECTION–  I was watching SOA last night, an ad for Harley-Davidson came up. the no cages one that is on the home page and then it said “SONS OF ANARCHY sponsored by HARLEY-DAVIDSON.”

I found that very ironic. H-D has always distanced itself from any form of a motorcycle club(1%) and now they are a sponsor for SOA, the only club they have ever sponsored is the HOG club, if you really can call that a club?

I guess nowadays it is all about the money and I guess old H-D has jumped on the SOA bandwagon. They won’t put an add on BIKERNET but we will sponsor SOA with all of its violence and law breaking activity. Don’t get me wrong I dig all of that stuff!

CARB EMBRACES HOT ROD FREEDOMS–  Hooray we won! We raised such hell they incorporated our bullet points in the new fact sheet for E rod motor certification!!!
Holy cow I am impressed!!! No more vague language! The CARB board did listen to us!! See these new FACT Sheet specifications:

1- they CLARIFIED the difference between a kit car and a hot rod
2-they clarified that the Certified Engine E rods will not be subject to current 500 SVC limits
3-the new E rods motors are subject to current DMV requirements like newly produced cars
4-they clarified Specially constructed vehicles do not include restorations of actual vintage vehicles, for example,
old vehicles rebuilt to their former specifications.
5-they clarified Specially constructed vehicles cannot be built for resale.
6-they clarified ARB’s proposal would not affect currently registered or future hot rods, since hot rods are typically
pre-1955 existing vehicles that were never subject to emission controls.
7- they finally included that DMV, CHP, and BAR all are included in the registering kit cars process

And yes Eddie B has a good point below and Dyno DOn was right, Silence is our enemy.
I feel empowered now! YAY! Hot Rodders rule when they stick together! Anna

To the Faithful
I received this the other day from the ARB and thought I would pass along;
http://www.arb.ca.gov/html/fact_sheets/spcn_vehicles/spcn_vehicles.pdf Certification for Engine Packages for use in Specially Constructed Vehicles (including Kit Cars) the Main ARB article

These are basically a recap of the Sacramento/El Monte Workshop meetings, with some interesting information thrown in. It’s well worth reading. I picked out the “Certification” click pages because I’m not sure what was really happening on this whole thing.

It appears to me, this was a blunder by SEMA & GM. In the Sacto meeting they wanted to horn in on the SB-100 SCV 500 to build kit cars for resale by shops using the GM “E” engine kit and when that failed they went for a CARB E.O. Certification for the “E” kit. This apparently brought about the El Monte Workshop, which turned out to be no more than a reading of the proposal. It wasn’t all for naught though, because many of the hobbyist there got to speak their minds…a good thing.Silence is our enemy!

I believe GM over estimated the sales potential of this kit for many reasons and is now trying to “sell” it anyway they can. SEMA, just should have known better.

Keep the Faith & Spread the Word

REPORT FROM THE LAW OFFICES OF MICHAEL HUPY–  Billy is a fire fighter from New York who lives on Staten Island. I met him through a mutual friend, Stormin’ Norman. Billy was immortalized when a picture of him and two other fire fighters was taken at Ground Zero as they raised a flag over the devastation of that day.

Attached is an interview with Billy 10 years after the events of 9-11. I’m proud to call him friend. A year after that tragic September, Mike Hupy met Billy at a party at my house during the Harley anniversary celebrations. Mike had paid for Billy’s travel expenses along with several other New York fire fighters who came to my party. In all, there were over 100 people in my back yard to honor these brave men.

A year after that, Mike once again invited Billy to Milwaukee to participate in the Harley-Davidson Black ‘n Blue Ball. Billy was introduced and acknowledge by the over 1,000 people in attendance and received a standing ovation that lasted well over one minute.

AGENT ZEBRA SIGNS 1%er MOVIE DEAL–Years ago this bastard wrote a screenplay called 1%er, and just this week he signed a movie deal and drug the French producers to the Bikernet Headquarters for a meeting. The movie is scheduled to be directed by Olivier Dahan, Oscar winning director of La Vie En Rose.

We just recently discussed the term 1%er and how Motorbooks decided to switch the spelling because they follow the Chicago Style Manual, which basically is a guide, not a rule book. They changed any mention of 1%ers in my Terry the Tramp book to One-percenter. They destroyed the iconic brand to support an English text journal. Check it out, when the book hits the stands in a couple of weeks. You can pre-order on Amazon.

Meanwhile the true 1%er brand will live in the film written by James Houck (Agent Zebra), and filming will begin in the near future. Shit, Bandit may grab another cameo roll. You just never know. The bastard gets all the breaks.

Motorcycle Insurance: Know Your Options.

Reading an insurance policy is no fun. This is why we love insurance around the Bikernet Insurance office headquarters, so that you don’t have to.

We come across too many new applications where motorcycle owners have been instructed by their insurance agents to simply add their bikes (via endorsement) to their Personal Auto Policy for “convenience” purposes. Not good for consumers we say. Not good at all. Why?

Adding your 2-3 wheel motorcycle to an insurance contract designed for 4 or more wheels makes no sense. Don’t do it! The typical automobile insurance policy is not designed with your motorcycle in mind. This approach can leave numerous gaps in coverage and have you holding the bag in the event of a claim that is not covered.

ANOTHER BIKERNET GOVERNMENT INVESTIGATION–Livestock producers face ethanol makers over cost of corn WASHINGTON — The flooding and record heat that have combined to shrink this year’s corn crop are feeding new calls from livestock producers to weaken the government’s ethanol mandates.

Producers told the House Agriculture Committee on Wednesday that tightening grain supplies are driving up feed costs further and threatening to push many poultry farms and others out of business.

“We have serious, immediate concerns about the availability and cost of feed ingredients caused by the mandated use of corn-based ethanol,” said Ted Seger, president of Farbest Foods Inc., a turkey producer in Indiana.

More than 20 percent of the chicken industry, as measured by production, has been sold to foreign-owned companies because of bankruptcies in the U.S. industry over the last three years, he said.

The Agriculture Department this week estimated that farmers will harvest 12.5 billion bushels of corn this year, the third-largest crop on record, but that was 3 percent less than the USDA had forecast a month earlier.

With corn supplies tightening, the USDA also estimated usage for feed would be reduced. About 4.7 billion bushels of this year’s crop is expected to be used for livestock feed, down from 5 billion bushels for the 2010 harvest.

The price of corn is the major cost of raising livestock, and producers have been trimming herds and flocks as a result of price increases, boosting retail meat prices.

Steve Meyer, an Iowa economist who advises the livestock industry, warned that a bigger crunch could come if there is a widespread drought and crop failure. A 12-percent drop in corn production, roughly half as large as what happened during a drought in the 1980s, would cut the harvest under 12 billion bushels, said Meyer, who testified on behalf of the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association.

“We’re living on borrowed time from a sometimes-fickle Mother Nature,” he said.

He said Congress should provide for an automatic waiver of the annual ethanol mandates in case of a crop failure.

The ethanol industry argues that the mandates are needed to assure investors that there will be a market for the biofuel and that market speculation has a played a major role in driving up the price of corn.

–USA Today

The Bikernet Scientific team is working with Advanced Algae Australia on a system that may provide all the pure, 100 percent bio-fuels we need without corn, and ultimately fossil fuels may be a thing of the past. Is that good news or what?–Bandit

BIKERNET STAFFER GOES CAMEL SHOOTING–The guys were all at a camel shooting camp. No one wanted to room with Bruce, because he snored so badly. They decided it wasn’t fair to make one of them stay with him the whole time, so they voted to take turns.
Dave was the first guy who shared with Bruce and comes to breakfast the next morning with his hair a mess and his eyes all bloodshot.

They said, “Man, what happened to you? He said, “Bruce snored so loudly, I just sat up and watched him all night.”

The next night it was Greeny’s turn. In the morning, same thing, hair all standing up, eyes all bloodshot.
They said, “Man, what happened to you? You look awful!

He said, ‘Man, that Bruce shakes the roof with his snoring. I watched him all night.”

The third night was Glenn’s turn. Glenn was a tanned, older bloke, a man’s man. The next morning he came to breakfast bright-eyed and bushy-tailed.

“Good morning!” he said.

They couldn’t believe it. They said, “Man, what happened?”
He said, “Well, we got ready for bed. I went and tucked Bruce into bed, patted him on the butt, and kissed him good night. Bruce sat up and watched me all night.” With age comes wisdom.

BIKERNET ENGLISH DEPARTMENT QUIRKY WORD OF THE DAY–
revenant REV-uh-nuhnt, noun:

One who returns after death (as a ghost) or after a long absence.

Lazarus, as a revenant, is often used by the religious romance-writers of the middle ages as a vehicle for their conceptions of the lower world.
— R. C. Trench, Notes on the Miracles of Our Lord

He pale, immobile like a revenant himself, looked sometimes out of the window, sometimes closed his eyes.
— D. H. Lawrence, Women in Love

The folklore of the Irish countryside too, with its hauntings, revenants and changelings… was an integral part of everyday awareness, even in the middle-class world of Yeats’s childhood.
— Terence Brown, The Life of W. B. Yeats

Revenant is from French revenir, “to return,” which is also the source of the word revenue, “that which returns from an investment.”

RM AUCTIONS ANNOUNCES A SIGNIFICANT COLLECTION OF MOTORCYCLES TO BE SOLD AT ITS FORTHCOMING LONDON SALE
LONDON
(19 September, 2011) – RM Auctions is delighted to announce the consignment of a significant single-owner collection of 25 motorcycles for its upcoming London, England sale at Battersea Evolution on the 26th October, 2011.

With a reputation as the world’s most successful auction house specialising in the sale of investment-quality collector cars, RM is fast expanding its expertise into the collector motorcycle market. The consignment of the noted ‘La Collezione Due Ruote’ as a featured attraction at the company’s upcoming Battersea sale is a significant step in enhancing that reputation.

The 25 bikes that make up the collection span a wide variety of marques and eras, from the early days of motorcycling through to modern-era, high-performance machines.

“RM’s track-record in selling investment-grade automobiles is second to none, and it’s now really satisfying that owners of significant motorcycles are increasingly entrusting us to sell their machines at auction,” says Dylan Miles, motorcycle specialist with RM Europe. “This particular collection contains some fabulously rare and desirable bikes, and we anticipate very high levels of interest in the lots being offered.”

Of particular note is a 1973 MV Agusta 750S, resplendent in the traditional red, white and blue MV colours and regarded as one of the fastest and most expensive bikes of its period. Presented in restored condition with ASI Homologation number, this superb machine is estimated to fetch between £40,000 – £48,000. MV’s more recent history is represented by a 2004 MV Agusta F4 1000cc, the ultimate MV Agusta superbike and a modern classic. With only delivery mileage on the clock, it is offered in ‘as new’ condition (Estimate: £9,000 – £11,000).

Amongst the many rare and exotic bikes within the collection, another stand-out lot is the 1946 Stilma Prototype (pictured right), a completely original one-off example produced in Turin. Offered in its original paint and with only 515 kilometres covered, this amazing machine is estimated to achieve £40,000 – £50,000 when it crosses the auction podium.

No collection of bikes is complete without a Ducati, and the c.1975 Ducati 750SS Imola Race Replica is a stunning example. This recently constructed, faithful evocation of the iconic 750SS Imola Racer, offered with its correct fibreglass fairing and silver metal flake finish, represents superb value with an estimate of £20,000 – £26,000. Also expected to attract significant interest from enthusiasts is a rare and powerful 1925 Harley-Davidson 350cc OHV Peashooter, recently restored in the traditional Harley colour of olive green (Estimate: £20,000 – £26,000).

In its entirety, the collection boasts numerous rare machines, other well-known marques represented include Parilla, Harley-Davidson, Indian, Benelli, Honda, Laverda, Moto Guzzi, Zundapp, Fongri-NSU, Maserati, MM and Bimota.

BIKERNET UNION WORKER GOES TO VEGAS–A dedicated Teamsters union worker was attending a convention in Las Vegas and decided to check out the local brothels.

When he entered the first one, he asked the Madam, “Is this a union house?”
“No,'”she replied, “I’m sorry it isn’t.”
“Well, if I pay you $100, what cut do the girls receive?”
“The house takes $80 and the girls receive $20,” she answered.
Offended at such unfair dealings, the union man stomped off down the street in search of a more equitable, hopefully unionized shop. His search continued until finally he reached a brothel where the Madam responded, “Why yes sir, this is a union house. We observe all union rules.”
The man asked, “And, if I pay you $100, what cut do the girls receive?”
“The girls receive $80 and the house takes $20.”
“That’s more like it!” the union man said.
He handed the Madam $100, looked around the room, and pointed to a stunningly attractive green-eyed blonde . . . .
“I’d like her,” he said.
“I’m sure you would, sir,” said the Madam. Then she gestured to a 92-year old woman in the corner, “but Ethel here has 67 years seniority and according to union rules, she’s next.'”
Now you know what’s wrong with the AUTO INDUSTRY, EDUCATION AND GOV’T UNIONS and the seniority system in the House and Senate.

FROM THE BIKERNET MEDICAL CENTER, DR. WEIL’S OFFICE–The Benefits of Magnets?
If you have recurring aches and pains and spend any time surfing the internet, you’ve probably heard about magnet therapy. Magnets have long been promoted as treatment for a wide variety of disorders. Proponents claim magnets can minimize pain, anxiety, cancer, heart disease, snoring, incontinence and just about everything else.
While most of these claims are unproven, and most magnets on the market are unlikely to do any good at all, several studies do suggest that magnets may have something to offer for pain relief:

* A 1997 study at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston showed that 76 percent of patients treated with magnets for severe joint and muscle pain due to post-polio syndrome reported less pain compared to only 19 percent of those who received placebos.
* University of Virginia researchers said participants reported clinically meaningful improvements when using magnet therapy to reduce the intensity of pain from fibromyalgia (researchers also cautioned the overall results of their study were inconclusive).
* A University of Tennessee study showed that 60 percent of women with pelvic pain reported improvements after three weeks of magnet therapy compared to 33 percent of those treated with placebos.
Taken as a whole, studies suggesting that magnets help with pain relief are outnumbered by those that find no benefit.

If you do try magnet therapy, keep in mind that using magnets is not without risk, particularly for those with a pacemaker or other implantable medical device such as a defibrillator, insulin pump or liver infusion pump. In addition, therapeutic magnets are often pricey, there is no evidence that magnet therapy is safe during pregnancy, and there have been anecdotal reports of dizziness, nausea and prolongation of wound healing and bleeding among those wearing magnets.

KENTUCKY DRAG RACE INSTITUTES A NO COLORS POLICY–I have some bad news to report with regards to one of the major biker events here in the state of KY. The All Harley Drags at Beach Bend Park near Bowling Green has decided to institute a NO COLORS policy this year.
The park tried to do this last year and after some negotiations between the KMA, the KY COC, Beach Bend and others the issue was dropped. Just a couple days ago we had received word that this may be the case again and that the park was instituting a ban on club colors at its events.
Richard Houchens who has known the owner of the park for some time went to negotiate on behalf of the KMA/KBA. Even at his strongest urgings NOT to institute this discriminatory policy the park has insisted that it will. When asked if they would seek to enforce this against the Christian Clubs and primarily the CMA the owner said they were not welcome either. If you have a patch on your back of any kind they will refuse entry to the event.

Therefore due to the discriminatory nature of Beach Bend’s policy the KMA/KBA is requesting that ALL bikers spread the word to BOYCOTT BeachBend Park until this discriminatory policy is changed.

The biker community should not in any way support businesses or individuals who act in this manner. This is the first major motorcycle event in the state who has taken such action and as such the KMA will look at the possibility of either legal and/or legislative solutions to end this type of practice in the state. Please join me in this fight against discrimination against the biker community.

See the Bikernet Blog for an update on this policy–they rescinded the No Colors policy.–Snake

‘FELON’ A Painting by Eric & Ian Herrmann
A new Father and Son project!–
It all started with a cute portrait of my Doberman C4, done for my mother. Having been very pleased with the piece, my father and I decided to take it a step further. Why should our dog be painted as an innocent pup when he is much more than that? We had two giclees made (Prints on Canvas) and are now painting in the different personalities of our trouble making K9….
Ian Herrmann

‘Felon’
I started painting on my version of C4 at Sturgis this year. Over my many years at Sturgis I’ve noticed how aggressive the “Authorities” have gotten and decided to place my dog in those uncompromising situations. I made him a biker, of course.
Eric Herrmann

Woof,

I’m C4, a Doberman. I may look different than other dogs, but I try to lead a good life. I’m in my 50’s now, but can still hold my own. As you can tell by my ink, I love my family and country. I served the USA as an Army Ranger, Volunteer Fire & Rescue dog, and lost my dad in 911. I’ve got a great gal named Liberty, a Black Lab, shiniest coat you’ve ever seen. My Human’s a Biker and Racer and I grew up at Tracks and Events all across the country. This was my first year going to Sturgis. Very exciting!

My Human decides to go for a ride and leaves me to watch the trailer. I know, that’s my job, but it was Sturgis. I just got there. I had to get out and see the sights, sniff some butts, tell some tales. I take off and head for ‘Main Street’, whatever that is. I could hear the sounds and smell some kind of Sausage in the air. This would be easy to find. I’m about two blocks away and I think I spot my Human’s Flamed Bagger. I take off and try to catch him. Well the bladder isn’t what it used to be so I pull over at a prime Fire Hydrant to tap one. This car with flashing lights pulls up and Humans with guns and sticks jump out and start charging me. Not one to back down, I held my ground for a while. They just kept coming, out of the bushes, on bicycles, so I decided to bolt. I’ve always been an agile runner with a top speed of 32 mph, so I hoofed it out of there. Through a yard, over a fence, across a street and down the alley, I was dodging people and bikes everywhere. I was feeling like I was 20 again!

Man this Sturgis place was pretty cool. Wham, I hit a wall. Boxed in they finally took me down. Hog tied me with wire ties. So here I sit, lots of time to write. I heard my Human’s voice so I’ll probably be out soon. Don’t know how happy he’s going to be! I still don’t know what I did wrong. This Sturgis place still looks pretty cool, even with all the challenges. I hope I can make it back again. I’ll try to run through those Creeks and Canyons next year. Maybe check out the races or enter in that Hill Climb deal. First trip to Sturgis, memorable, but I’ll be back.

–C4

The original ‘Felon’ painting is available for $6000.00 and measures 24” x 36”. Two different size Giclee’ prints on Canvas are also available from $850.00 to $2500.00.

Ian Herrmann, 22 year old son of Motorsport artist Eric Herrmann is currently working on his version of Secret Service C4. Ian’s artwork is as diverse as his father’s and is currently accepting animal portraits to support his art habit. His work can be found on Facebook at Ian Herrmann or he can be reached through www.EricHerrmannStudios.com
Look for the continuing series of C4 paintings arising from this father and son duel!

NEVER A DULL MOMENT–If you’re thinking about a tranny rebuild, make sure you check the JIMS reman system featured in a tech on the home page right now. I just barely survived the server crash in Columbus, and I’ve worked steady to midnight every night to catch up and return lost content. Whatta fuckin’ nightmare, but I’m close.

Then Erik pops over the other night to film us working on the Mudflap girl bikes for his proposed TV series. He interviewed my son in my office. His partner is the designer of Grip Ace products, and we will feature his Rivera Primo grips on Frank’s bike. It takes him like 17 minutes to wire these into the system. They are sharp and we’re going to learn about them, and so will you in a Bikernet Mudflap Girl build tech. Hang on for that.

Erik works in the movie industry and recently on Machine Gun Preacher. We get to feature the actual Machine Gun Preacher’s bike real soon. And in the next week we will shoot Troy Duffy’s new bike, soon to be unveiled in a Melrose art gallery, next to the tattoo parlor where my son works. Troy wrote and directed a new movie, Boondock Saints. Great name.

Okay, so I plan to bring you a feature on Jim Murillo’s lifestyle and his custom vintage Triumphs, and a Mudflap Girl update before we peel to Vegas for Bikefest. We will bring you reports from the town where mum’s the word.

Ride Forever,

–Bandit
