Hey,
Do you read horoscopes, check your feng shui calendar, or any other sooth-saying window into the future. I don’t generally, but I do try to stay in tune with what’s going on around me. If I notice a particularly negative trend, my survival antennae elevates. I try to catch myself, before I slip into any extreme mode.
This week and last turned into weeks of strange conflicts and corruption. So, say someone stole your partner’s wallet. That’s a bummer, so you torture a couple of guys down the block to twist info from the grimy bastards. I’m kidding. But say that one swell of a negative wave turns into three, maybe four. I attempt to wrap them together, witness a trend and look for guidance. Am I making sense?
So, I’ll be mildly specific without being a snitch. My 93-year-old mom came face to face with a corrupt act within her elderly relatives. We are investigating. I’m working with a community group to further a waterfront in our area, but there’s been a negative twist in the leadership, but I can’t figure out why. Then someone tried to steal my grandson’s motorcycle by bullying his mother and using a cop. I was pulled into this mess, and the mother stood firm. The bike is still in place. The list goes on, including serious conflicts with an LA club and cops.
Could it be Halloween?
A couple more items of this nature surfaced on a broader scale like the club, and I started to see a trend. In some cases I was forced to act, but it’s best to pull back, relax, and take stock of the actions. The bullshit will pass ultimately, and the warm glow of the positive sun will shine once more.
Hang on! The Bikernet Thursday News is sponsored by Cycle Source Magazine and Iron Trader News.
THE CURE FOR A Tough week ahead?
Feeling kinda lousy?
So what are you gonna do about it?
Punch a wall . . . drink heavily . . . take anti-depressants?
How about NATURAL anti-depressants?

A BIKERNET MOMENT OF REFLECTION—
“Time is like a river. You cannot touch the water twice, because the flow that has passed will never pass again. Enjoy every moment of life. As a bagpiper, I play many gigs. Recently I was asked by a funeral director to play at a graveside service for a homeless man. He had no family or friends, so the service was to be at a pauper’s cemetery in the back country.
As I was not familiar with the backwoods, I got lost. I finally arrived an hour late and saw the funeral guy had evidently gone and the hearse was nowhere in sight. There were only the diggers and crew left and they were eating lunch. I felt badly and apologized to the men for being late.
The workers put down their lunches and began to gather around. I played out my heart and soul for this man with no family and friends. I played like I’ve never played before for this homeless man.
And as I played “Amazing Grace”, the workers began to weep. They wept, I wept, we all wept together. When I finished, I packed up my bagpipes and started for my car. Though my head was hung low, my heart was full.
As I opened the door to my car, I heard one of the workers say, “I never seen anything like that before, and I’ve been putting in septic tanks for twenty years.”
FILM EFFORT OF THE WEEK– Brian Darwas releases short film on artist Keith Weesner.
Film maker Brian Darwas currently produces feature length documentaries on Hot Rod and Motorcycle Culture. All of which have gone on to win awards, and have been well received. He’s now changing things up a bit, making a handful short films that anyone can share freely.
“I feel it’s important to our scene that high quality moving images, which can both awe and inspire, are available to anyone at anytime. My goal is to reach the younger generation. The generation of people who grew up on the Internet, and turn to it as a source of new ideas and inspiration. I’d like to instill in them the notion that hot rods, motorcycles, and building stuff by hand is still cool and relevant.” ~ Brian Darwas
When asked why he chose to film Keith Weesner, Brian Darwas had this to say:
“Artists often come and go. Very few have what it takes to make it through the hard living that comes with earning no money while trying to establish yourself. . . and as if constantly creating something new and exciting wasn’t hard enough, you also have to pay your dues and prove to the world that you’re the real thing. That you’re not just somebody who came along to latch on and make a quick buck.
Keith Weesner is just that, the real thing. His love for Hot Rods, Customs, and the general Culture that surrounds it all speaks for itself through his art. The paintings he paints and the cars he builds and drives. He’s been doing this a long time and it shows. He didn’t fade away when the going got tough, and he’s been doing it before it was cool.” ~ Brian Darwas
Each film will run anywhere from two, to five minutes. Once completed, they will be shared freely via the Internet, social media, etc. . . So, please share and help spread the word.

BIKE BUILDING BOOK OF THE WEEK-–
Custom Bike Building ADVANCED is just what the title suggests. This book takes all the building advice presented in Custom Bike Building BASICS, and gives the reader MORE: Information on how to equip your shop. Tips and techniques for welding steel and with your MIG or TIG welder. Sheet metal fabrication forming sequences. Information on making your own handlebars and exhaust pipes. Help with making a leather seat cover that’s truly your own.
What hasn’t changed with this new book is the author – Chris Callen of Cycle Source magazine fame. Which means the book is written for riders working at home and in small shops. You don’t need a big catalog of aftermarket parts, you only need this book, a small set of tools, your own imagination and the drive to see the project through to the end.
Like the Basics book, this one includes three, start-to-finish bike assemblies. And like that earlier book, this one leans toward the earlier Harley-Davidson powerplants – Knuckleheads, Pans, Shovels and Ironhead Sportys – built on a budget by real people with a little grease under their fingernails.

HERE’S AN ON-GOING CONFLICT--Aussie bikers ordered off Stuart farm, their own property.
Rebels motorcycle club members in Townsville in the Australian state of Queensland have been ordered off their Stuart property known as “The Farm” after the land was added to the list of banned places under state anti-biker legislation.
The Rebels motorcycle club building on Ingham Rd was classified as a prescribed place under the Vicious Lawless Association Disestablishment (VLAD) laws last year and shut down.
The Odin’s Warriors clubhouse on Leyland St was also on the first list of 40 banned locations.
But The Farm was not initially on that list, leaving members of the club free to use the property.
Northern Region crime co-ordinator Acting Superintendent Cheryl Scanlon confirmed The Farm was now on the list and detectives went to the property on Saturday and notified members of the club they had to vacate the premises.
It is understood they were given until 5pm yesterday to vacate.
There were no arrests and no charges laid on Saturday.
“Investigations are ongoing and as such, the Queensland Police Service is not in a position to provide any further comment,” Supt Scanlon said.
“Maintaining public order and community safety is paramount to the QPS.
“The QPS has the support and commitment of the Queensland Government and other local, State and
Federal agencies to eliminate the violence and criminal business activities of Criminal Motorcycle Gangs (CMG) throughout Queensland.”
“Any comment we make regards the Rebels would be done through a statement from UMCQ (The United Motorcycle Council of Queensland),” he said.
The UMCQ waged a $1 million challenge against the anti-biker laws in the High Court, but the seven judges reserved its decision on the validity of the laws in September.
There were no signs of disturbance outside The Farm as the clocked ticked over the deadline yesterday.
A single unmarked police car pulled out of the address a few minutes after 5pm.
Later, a Queensland Police Service spokesperson said detectives visited the Stuart property at 5pm and that Rebels members had complied with the legislation.

THE CODE OF THE WEST LESSON FOR THE DAY–“Running away from any problem only increases the distance from the solution. The easiest way to escape from the problem is to solve it.”
–Jerry
QUICK, OPEN THE BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRARY—We need some relief. HEAVEN AND HELL While walking down the street one day a Corrupt Senator was tragically hit by a car and died. His soul arrives in heaven and is met by St. Peter at the entrance.
“Welcome to heaven,” says St. Peter. “Before you settle in, it seems there is a problem. We seldom see a high official around these parts, you see, so we’re not sure what to do with you.”
“No problem, just let me in,” says the Senator..
“Well, I’d like to, but I have orders from the higher ups. What we’ll do is have you spend one day in hell and one in heaven. Then you can choose where to spend eternity.”
“Really? I’ve made up my mind. I want to be in heaven,” says the Senator.
“I’m sorry, but we have our rules.”
And with that, St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to hell. The doors open and he finds himself in the middle of a green golf course. In the distance is a clubhouse and standing in front of it are all his friends and other politicians who had worked with him.
Everyone is very happy and in evening dress. They run to greet him, shake his hand, and reminisce about the good times they had while getting rich at the expense of the people.
They played a friendly game of golf and then dine on lobster, caviar and the finest champagne. Also present is the devil, who really is a very friendly guy who is having a good time dancing and telling jokes. They are all having such a good time that before the Senator realizes it, it is time to go.
Everyone gives him a hearty farewell and waves while the elevator rises… The elevator goes up, up, up and the door reopens in heaven where St. Peter is waiting for him, “Now it’s time to visit heaven..”
So, 24 hours passed with the Senator joining a group of contented souls moving from cloud to cloud, playing the harp and singing. They have a good time and, before he realizes it, the 24 hours have gone by and St. Peter returns. “Well, then,
you’ve spent a day in hell and another in heaven. Now choose your eternity.
” The Senator reflects for a minute, then he answers: “Well, I would never have said it before, I mean heaven has been delightful, but I think I would be better off in hell.”
So St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to hell..
Now the doors of the elevator open and he’s in the middle of a barren land covered with waste and garbage. He sees all his friends, dressed in rags, picking up the trash and putting it in black bags as more trash falls from above. The devil comes over to him and puts his arm around his shoulders. “I don’t understand,” stammers the Senator. “Yesterday I was here and there was a golf course and clubhouse, and we ate lobster and caviar, drank champagne, and danced and had a great time. Now there’s just a wasteland full of garbage and my friends look miserable. What happened?”
The devil smiles at him and says,
“Yesterday we were campaigning … Today, you voted..”
Vote wisely on November 4 2014.

FOUR BUCKET LIST RIDES FROM WOMENS RIDERS NOW–WRN editor Genevieve Schmitt is often asked what are her favorite motorcycle roads. She always mentions these four rides, and recommends you take these journeys before you hang up your motorcycle jacket for the last time.
DHARMA WORDS FOR THE DAY—When our mind overcomes all temptations, every day is a happy day. When illusory thoughts do not arise, every place is a peaceful place. When the mind is still and all thoughts cease, that is true wealth. When selfish desires stop, that is the true field of merit!

SCOOTER TRAMP SCOTTY TO TEST AN S&S TOURING EVO ENGINE—
Here’s a note from Scotty regarding the touring engine install and travel articles throughout 2015:
I enjoy a relatively large following, which is still growing rapidly (kinda makes me crazy at times). Last weekend I met with a film crew in New Orleans that came from California to acquire biographical material for use in an episode of “Everything Is Stories”. I’ve also received numerous calls from Morgon Spurlock. He produced “Supersize Me”, a ton of other documentaries, has a TV show called “30 Days”, and was the host and producer of a CNN show called “Inside Man”. Next month his crew will travel to my location (flattering) to get interview footage for a documentary about freedom in America.
Here’s a link to their site: http://www.imdb.com/company/co0169151/.
The reason for this is simple: Since the spring of 1994 I’ve been living exclusively from only the back of a 1988, 524,000 mile FLHT and since that time have stayed in no one place for more than two months. These exploits cover the whole of the U.S., Canada and Mexico. I produce adventure stories. For many, it would seem that the ability to follow these adventures is a big deal, and so this following continues to grow.
I know Keith Ball from the days he worked with Easyriders mag. I now submit a full length piece to Bikernet monthly. Once run, these articles are archived into a department designated to only my work. This material remains available to readers indefinitely. I also contribute almost constant “what’s-he-doing-now?” material to Bikernet as well. Keith has graciously agreed to run anything I would write about S&S.
HDopenroad.com also publishes my stuff regularly and has agreed to run any S&S material I submit. As for printed magazines, I hold a large monthly column in Cycle Source and will have material in there too.
Addicted only to easy touring, I ride like a grandma and have therefore never been interested in hot-rod engines. But I’ve learned that S&S produces touring engines that will probably out pull, and possibly outlast, the stock Evo.
I’m interested, and wanting to learn if these things really hold up over the long haul, I searched the net and was astonished to find that, although MANY are asking this same question, NO ONE has an actual road tested answer. Amazing! If one of these motors was bolted into my old bagger, and if it held up, they would hear about it very loudly. For I am a true Evo lover.

2015 HARLEY FREEWHEELER TRIKE
http://www.bikernettrikes.com/pages/story_detail.aspx?id=12430
I’m 72 and ride a 1990 FXSTC with Lehman Rogue trike kit. Trikes are fun and probably necessary for old farts. I am happy to see new trikes at a more affordable price. Standard reverse sounds good, also. Bells and whistles are not needed.
I do wish Harley made new trikes more available. Waiting lists are the pits.
Thanx for the good info.

Motorcycle racer VALERIE THOMPSON sets new personal best top speed with 217 mph run at Texas Mile Speed Festival.
7-time land speed record holder and Texas Mile 200 MPH Club member breaks her 2013 Texas Mile top speed of 212 mph.
(Scottsdale, AZ) – October 28, 2014 – Valerie Thompson, seven-time land speed record holder and one of the world’s fastest BMW racers, returned to Beeville Texas October 24 – 26 for this year’s second Texas Mile top speed competition. Thompson broke her personal best top speed of 212 mph, set at the March 2013 Texas Mile, with a blistering run of 217.7 mph on her record-setting CTEK Battery Charger sponsored BMW S 1000 RR.
The Texas Mile is a bi-annual motorsports festival created in 2003 for high-performance vehicle enthusiasts, welcoming a wide variety of racing vehicles, including race cars, modified street cars, land speed racers and motorcycles. Event organizers claim it is the fastest and most challenging 1-mile track in the world. The October event set a new record in number of competitor entries and spectators.
Thompson made seven runs during the three day extravaganza of speed, each over 200 mph, making her one of two females with a best top speed on a motorcycle. This is Thompson’s last motorcycle competition of the year, but will race a land speed racecar with The Maxx2Racing Team at the Mojave Air and Space Port Runway ‘Invitation Only’ event on November 1.
“We’ve enjoyed a successful year thanks to my sponsors and team members. We had to do a complete bike inspection at Go AZ Motorcycles after setting a new record at Bonneville, so we had a real thrash just to make this event. I thank Kerry Alter for his awesome tune ups and my crew chief, Ray Garcia, for making all the right calls at the track,” said a smiling Thompson. “Our goal was to go 215, so I’m delighted by our results. We added Magic Bullet to our fuel which I know really helped our performance,” added Thompson.
This was Thompson’s third time racing at the Texas Mile and according to her, “it just gets better and better.” Thompson’s CTEK Battery Charger sponsored team provided free battery maintenance services for competitors and event attendees throughout the three-day speed festival.

The Great Plains offer a wide open world of flat land paved with grass, farmland and very few trees to obstruct the view. Out here the sky is the dominant force, for it stretches from one endless horizon to the other leaving those on the ground to feel almost as though they’ve become engulfed in its humbling expanse. Billowy clouds often lumber lazily across this, for them, natural domain. At times a person can watch from beneath a clear sky as one, and sometimes more, small self contained storms move slowly in the distance while raining heavily upon the green grasslands below.

Oops, but it is a famous Kenny Boyce designed Pro-Street FXR chassis. Check the axle plate. It’s just missing the traditional V-configuration frame member. This was a very popular custom configuration in the ‘90s. Our frame was modified by Dr. John in Orange county to give it the shrunken look.–Bandit
US Congressman Attempts to Talk With A Little Girl. What She Says Next is Genius!–
A congressman was seated in first class next to a little girl on an airplane. He turned to her and said, “Do you want to talk? Flights go quicker if you strike up a conversation with your fellow passenger.”
The little girl, who had just started to read her book, replied to the total stranger, “What would you want to talk about?”
“Oh, I don’t know,” said the congressman. “How about global warming, universal health care or stimulus packages?” as he smiled smugly.
“OK,” she said. “Those could be interesting topics but let me ask you a question first. A horse, a cow and a deer all eat the same stuff – grass. Yet a deer excretes little pellets, while a cow turns out a flat patty but a horse produces clumps. Why do you suppose that is?”
The legislator, visibly surprised by the little girl’s intelligence, thinks about it and says, “Hmmmm, I have no idea.”
To which the little girl replies, “Do you really feel qualified to discuss global warming, universal health care or the economy when you don’t know crap?”
Then she went back to reading her book.

NAVAL TECHNOLOGY ON THE RISE–If you have any interest in planes, you will really appreciate this! Go Navy!
Just 11 months ago (10Jul13), the US Navy successfully conducted
take-offs and landings from a fairly new nuclear aircraft carrier, the
USS George H.W. Bush (CVN-77), with a new stealth jet called the X-47B.
What is SO different about this plane, is the fact that it is a ‘drone’.
Yes, it is completely unmanned. (Navy pilots, have to be professionally concerned!)
Drones come in all sizes, and the X-47B is likely one of the larger ones.
What is so ironic about all of this is the fact that the enemy cannot detect a plane like this in the first place.
In the unlikely event they get lucky at shooting one down, there will be no human loss of life or captivity. As you view the flight deck crew signaling the plane, they are simply signaling the on-board cameras, which in turn are being manned by staff inside the command intelligence center (CIC) onboard the ship.
Also, check out the short distance this plane needs for a take-off. Impressive indeed.
UNCLE MONKEY STEPS INTO THE POLITICAL ARENA–I’m not sure where we screwed up. The recent attacks on soldiers on Canadian soil have caused lots of reflection and soul searching. It is easy to point the finger of blame on them, those different from us. They are the guilty, the cowards who would disgrace a war memorial.
It is easy to use hatred to fight hatred. It fuels us, fuels wars. But we have to stop and ask why, why is there this hatred. The sad truth is that this war has been simmering long before the recent events, before current and past administrations, stretching back even before we were countries ourselves.
I’ve never been scared or intimidated by those that are different from me. I’ve never felt superior or that an inequality should exist. I have been intrigued by our differences. It is this curiousness that fulfills my life making it a richer life.
Sadly few embrace this the way I do. I have been swept away by the thundering drums of a Pow-wow as indigenous people danced in circles; I’ve seen the beautiful smile on an East Indian bride’s face as she stands before family and friends bathed in red and gold. I’ve visited churches, cathedrals, synagogues and mosques and watched families, brothers and sisters, grandparents, and children come together in spiritual belief. They welcomed me with open arms as I did them.
I have sat in a dimly lit basement as those around me chanted unknown words mourning the death of a person, a soul that would no longer embrace them. I didn’t need to understand the words to understand the greater meaning, the universal meaning behind loss, behind life, behind family, behind friendship, behind community. It hasn’t converted me, made me want to cast away my core beliefs. It has expanded my understanding, my compassion because at the end of the day it is about good food, good drink, loving, laughing, remembering those who are gone, cherishing those that are with us.
It is when you stop listening to the media, stop listening to the politicians, all of which are for sale to the highest bidder, and start asking questions do you see our hands are not as clean as we like to believe, as we proclaim them to be. The west has waged war on the Middle East to discredit, decimate since the Crusades, since before there were weapons of mass destruction, before there was oil to be dependent on. There is no way to right these wrongs, no use proclaiming we were the right. Peace won’t be soon, won’t be easy. It has to start with you.

MOTORCYCLISTS SINGLED OUT AT YOSEMITE–On Oct. 20, the Yosemite National Park proposed a new fee structure for park entrance that would place a disproportionate and unfair financial burden on visiting motorcyclists.
Under the proposal, fees for passenger motor vehicles would increase 50 percent from $20 to $30. Additionally, the entrance fee for hikers, bikers and horseback riders would also increase 50 percent from $10 to $15. But, the entrance fee for motorcyclists would increase 150 percent, from $10 to $25.
Click here, fill out the form at the bottom of the page and click the red submit button to send comments to the NPS asking them not to raise entrance fees for motorcyclists at a faster rate than other visitors.
You can view the NPS’ media release about the fee increase here.
The AMA believes singling out motorcyclists for a disproportionate entrance fee increase is unfair and discriminatory. Instead, we believe that, if the NPS plans to raise entrance fees, the increase for motorcyclists should be no more than 50 percent – in line with the other fee increases.
The American Motorcyclist Association has submitted comments to Yosemite, which you can view here.pdf.
The public is also invited to an open house in the Yosemite Valley Auditorium, located behind the Yosemite Valley Visitor Center, on Wednesday, November 12, from 2 pm to 4 pm.
Once again, please let the NPS know that you do not support the proposed fee increase for motorcyclists by clicking here, filling in the form at the bottom of the page and clicking the “submit” button.

Biker Down: Dumptruck Co-hosts the Benefit for Chopper Dave
This past Saturday on October 25th at Alex’s Bar in Long Beach, CA Dumptruck was co-hosted the Benefit for Chopper Dave of Chopper Daves Casting Co. He was joined with Jeff Holt of Hot Bike/Street Choppers Magazines.
“It was a great time where the term biker was defined by the support that the community so willingly offered in order to help relieve the pressure of medical bills and time off work for one of the custom motorcycle community’s brightest lights and talented fabricators,” said Dumptruck.
Chopper Dave recently survived a morning commute motorcycle accident not far from his shop sustaining multiple fractures requiring numerous surgeries. It was a fantastic turnout full of friendship, cold beer, and a killer set by “Revolution Mother”.
Over $7,000 was raised in the support efforts & 5 Ball Racing Leathers was proud to donate one of their Special Ops vests to the mix of “Killer Raffles & Giveaways” that were on the table. A big shout out to Jeff Holt, Denver Dan, Brawny Built, and Alex’s Tavern amongst countless others for putting this all together.
If you’d like to be a part of the solution you can donate to the cause at http://www.gofundme.com/fdwrh4 .
Chopper Dave is a lover of motorcycles. Along with his photography he also builds some fine motorcycles and casts some neat parts. Many discovered Chopper Dave when they saw him on TV in one episode of the Discovery Channel Motorcycle Mania documentary which chronicled Jesse James’ everyday professional life.
He worked at West Coast Choppers for four years and in October 2005 Dave started his own shop – Chopper Dave Casting Co. He specializes in sand cast aluminum parts and continue to build bikes with a preference for models from the pre WW2 era.

HANG ON FOR THE RESULTS—of this week’s debacle. I shouldn’t put it that way. Everything will work out for the best. That’s my ultimate faith. The right wins out, finds the open, correct path and takes it, or we die trying.
We are about to launch a serious feature on Dar’s Navy Bike for the Rolling Thunder Run Veteran’s Charity. I roughed out my forward for Wanda’s Hummel’s book about the growth of the motorcycle rights movement. It’s an amazing piece about intelligence, drive, and passion for freedom.
And Tomorrow I need to work on my news piece for Cycle Source magazine. I’m basically creating a best-of the Bikernet News Column for Cycle Source. It should be interesting.
Then I will start on a tech for Lucky Devil on one of his recent builds. And I need to speak with Steve Huntsinger about a story around his shop and restorations. Plus, as soon as Biketoberfest dust settles we will begin on a piece about the Typhoon Carbs from Carl’s Speed Shop.
And I’m still trying to get ahold of Pat Patterson from Lead Sled for his feature in the HORSE. I could make something up, or talk about weld beads and his stories in Cycle Source, but hell, that’s against the Code of the West. It’s the writer’s mantra to write something fresh and unique for the next mag.
Have a helluva weekend,
