CHOP AND GRIND BIKERNET WEEKLY NEWS for February 4, 2016

Hey,

This is a rough one. Today, I’m bouncing between business deals, family issues, plans for Superbowl weekend, our effort to help the custom motorcycle market stay free, and our Bonneville racing efforts.

Buck Lovell called. He’s trying for a job at the Sturgis Museum. I told him I would write a letter of reference. Buck has been in the industry for 40 years, knows everyone, and is a cancer survivor. If you would like to write a letter of reference, send it to the Sturgis Museum. Here’s an address: darla@sturgismuseum.com

Okay, so let’s jump into the news. Shortly we will have reports from Save the Salt in Bonneville. We are making progress on so many front. Keep your fingers crossed.

QUICK, OPEN THE BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRARY–
A little old lady went to the grocery store to buy cat food. She picked up three cans and took them to the check out counter.

The girl at the cash register said, “I’m sorry, but we cannot sell you cat food without proof that you have a cat. A lot of old people buy cat food to eat, and the management wants proof that you are buying the cat food for your cat.”

The little old lady went home, picked up her cat and brought it back to the store. They sold her the cat food. The next day, she tried to buy two cans of dog food.

Again, the cashier said, “I’m sorry, but we cannot sell you dog food without proof that you have a dog. A lot of old people buy dog food to eat, but the management wants proof that you are buying the dog food for your dog.”

So she went home and brought in her dog. She then was able to buy the dog food. The next day she brought in a box with a hole in the lid. The little old lady asked the cashier to stick her finger in the hole. The cashier said, “No, you might have a snake in there.”

The little old lady assured her that there was nothing in the box that would harm her. So the cashier put her finger into the box and quickly pulled it out. She said to the little old lady, “That smells like shit.”

The little old lady said, “It is. I want to buy a roll of toilet paper.”

STEVE HUFF HISTORY, Land Speed Records, and Awards–

First to 200 MPH!!!

Read about Destination Harley-Davidson’s and Steve Huff’s journey to become the first push rod motor originally produced by Harley-Davidson Motor Company to break 200 MPH in a chassis created by Harley-Davidson Motor Company. Destination Harley-Davidson’s 2007 Buell XBRR is the only 1350 cc push rod motor of any kind and in any documented open air motorcycle land speed record class to exceed 200 MPH.

Runway Racing LLC 202.8 MPH

After 10 years of heading to Bonneville and El Mirage and setting Land Speed Records, Steve Huff piloted Destination Harley-Davidson’s 2007 Buell XBRR over 200 mph!!! Huff did this on Destination Harley-Davidson’s XBRR by adding NO2 to an already awesome set-up created by Destination Harley-Davidson and Steve Huff of Huff Motorsports.

This is a documented run in the books with Runway Racing LLC. This was accomplished on a 1.3 Mile course at Mojave Air and Spaceport in Mojave, CA. Next, Huff and Destination Harley-Davidson will see what this set-up can do on a 5 mile course at Bonneville while attempting to set an AMA 1350APS-PG and FIM World Records.

Then we’ll go for an SCTA record at El Mirage. Perhaps after we set a bunch of records over 200MPH we’ll officially be documented as a 200MPH Club member! We’ll keep you posted!!! Click the link below to see Destination Harley-Davidson’s XBRR in action and to hear Steve Huff describe the experience and the journey in his post run interview:

APS-PG 1350 SCTA 183.068MPH 1.3 Mile Dry Lake Record

June 22nd, 2014 Mojave, CA

This record was set in 2014 at the Mojave Magnum event. The record is an APS-PG 1350cc SCTA record with a special distinction of having been set on a 1.5 mile course!

APS-PG 1350 SCTA 184.464 MPH
August 2013 Bonneville Nationals, Inc.
This record is a strengthening of our other SCTA records at Bonneville. This is really fast for a push-rod motor running on pump gas!!!

APS-PG 1350 SCTA 181.397 MPH
Speed Week August 10-16, 2013
Destination Harley-Davidson currently owns the fastest1350cc push rod motor running on pump gas anywhere at anytime. We set this record in partnership with Steve Huff from Huff Motorsports at the SCTA-BNI Speed Week on 8/13/2013 at 181.397 mph. All Southern California Timing Association records can be seen HERE. Reviewing the records you can see that no other push rod motor has run faster on pump gas. The only push rod motors that have run faster ran on NO2.

APS-PG 1350 AMA 176.51 MPH
Bub Speed Trials August 24-29, 2013
We returned to Bonneville with the intention of strengthening our SCTA record above and setting a fuel record. We actually set the SCTA record at 184.64 mph before the record was disqualified while in tech inspection for a fuel run. Unfortunately, the conditions didn’t allow us to exceed our SCTA record, but we were able to ad the AMA record at 176.51mph.

APS-PG 1350 SCTA 177.998 MPH – (Exceeded this record above)
Annual World of Speed September 8-11, 2012
APS = Special Construction Partial Streamlining PG = Pushrod Engine Gasoline
This record is a special record. Only 2 Harley-Davidson powered 1350cc push rod motors have gone faster on the Bonneville Salt Flats according to the SCTA rule book updated after the 2012 season.

The first is a nitro-methane burning Sportster with no fairing that was bored and stroked to 1350cc called Shirlee’s Folly. Shirlee’s Folly ran 199.954 in the A-PF (Special Construction Pushrod Fuel).

The second is another APS bike running nitro (PF) called Red October that ran at 197.199. Our bike ran 177.998 on pump gas and we really didn’t have any kind of streamliner kit on the bike. We only had the carbon fiber body kit that our Buell XBRR came with. We could have run in the A-PG class, but the APS record had a lot more significance because of who held the old record.

The A-PG 1350 record, for your reference, stands at 169.975. However, we wanted to tackle a 30 year old record that was the higher of our two options.

APS-PF 1350 AMA 172.731MPH
August 30th, 2012
APS = Special Construction Partial Streamlining PF = Pushrod Engine Fuel

MPS-PP 1350 AMA 152.545MPH
September 5th, 2008
MPS = Modified Partial Streamlining PP = Production Pushrod

M-PP AMA 140.109MPH
September 5th, 2008
M = Modified PP = Production Pushrod

APS-PG 1350 Bonneville Nationals Performance Award 178.658MPH
August 11th-17th, 2012
APS = Special Construction Partial

Streamlining PG = Pushrod Engine Gasoline
This is another special piece of recognition. This isn’t a record, but it is a highly coveted Performance Award. Performance Awards are given out to people that do extraordinary things in the eyes of the BNI (Bonneville Nationals Inc.). While trying to earn the APS-PG record at the top of the page, Steve Huff made several attempts over several days. The number of attempts that Steve Huff and our XBRR were able to handle were so impressive to the folks running Bonneville Speed Week, that they handed Steve one of these rare pieces of recognition. As you can tell by the dates, Steve had to head back to the salt one month later to finally nail down the record. The speed referenced on the Performance Award is a speed Steve achieved on the down run of one of his record attempts.

BRASS BALLS CYCLES COOLEST COIN GAS CAP–
Inspired by the Challenge Coin cap we designed for our Navy charity bike. We thought it would be cool to design a Brass Balls Cycles Challenge Coin fuel cap. As as it turns out… It is.. Very cool.

Made in Oklahoma City, USA. This cap is machined from aircraft grade 6061 billet aluminum. It comes with a Viton O-ring, which is impervious to todays modern fuels and won’t brake down and risk damaging your paint.

The aluminum cap is brushed and black anodized. We also offer clear anodized and polished in our store.

The coin is sculpted in a 3-D high relief and is amazing. It is made of nickel, polished & antiqued, then hand painted. It is finished with a fuel resistant coating. The Brass Balls Cycles coins are proudly minted in the US by the Northwest Territorial Mint.

OPEN LETTER FROM THE CHEROKEE–
Dear Friends in the Sport;
Please find attached within the email below a link to a Vimeo Website to watch the “Pate Swap Meet / Cherokee Antique Motorcycle Swap Meet and Cherokee Concours D’Pate Bike Show Video” that I tried to download from my minds eye to its current format below recently. Please understand I know nothing about video’s or movie making.

May I introduce at this time Mr. Jim Connors from Georgetown TX whom is a retired individual films high definition video and produces theme videos mainly as a passionate hobby. I met Jim several months ago at a “Cars and Coffee” gathering for classic car enthusiasts on a Saturday morning on the Historic Downtown Square in Georgetown TX.

I offered him a ride in my 1930 HD with sidecar so he could video the vintage car show from sidecar viewing level for his client the City of Georgetown. Thus the “Gearhead Friendship” began. Jim is extremely talented and has a remarkable amount of professional filming equipment as well as an entire editing studio built in his private home.

Before you view this video please let me point out a few things.

1) None of the video drone footage or still photos used in this video were professionally shot by Jim. The drone footage was provided to me by Pate Management. The still photos inserted were taken by various individuals with cell phones and/or whatever camera they happened to have at last years inaugural Cherokee Event. Given the fact that all we had to work with was what was given to me after last years event, I hope you all agree that the finished product is in fact quite good!

2) I tried to start the video out advertising the Pate Swap Meet (now in its 44th year) thus the drone views of endless rows of transportation and car related footage. Then I tried to transition to our Vintage Motorcycle Swap Meet and finally the Bike Show.

In 2016 I have made pre-arrangements for Mr. Connors to be in attendance at Pate for a couple of days with his own cameras and equipment so that the next still photography and video footage is all done by himself in very high definition format. The ability to make future new video(s) will be far easier to accomplish after this years event and the finished product will be far superior to this one. Trust me… I have seen his other productions and they are far better than this one is.

ALL NEW18-foot ShockStrap Ratchet Safety Strap Now Available!–
ShockStrap is proud to introduce their new 18-foot ShockStrap Ratchet Safety Strap with an industry leading 2-year warranty. They incorporated a Safety Strap on one side of the ShockStrap which is there for two reasons:

1) if a catastrophic accident happened and the ShockStrap breaks, the Safety Strap will keep the tie down tight and in place.

2) Safety Strap also acts as a limiter so you won’t over-tighten and stress everything you are trying to secure. The commercial grade ratchet has an outside release for ease of use even with gloves on. It is bolted on so you can replace it in the future and keep your investment working.

ShockStrap is made from our own formula and is not affected by most chemicals, sunlight, oil, salt water, fungus and moisture. The strength of our product is to make everything work together so that the ShockStrap maintains constant pressure on the strap when hitting bumps or having side pressure applied to it. You won’t be pulling over every 50 miles to retighten ShockStraps…EVER!

Polyester webbing is used because it has superior attributes, it stretches less, is more resistant to rot and mildew, and has a higher strength rating and a softer feel in your hands. The 2-inch Polyester webbing has a heavy duty ratchet, a 5000lb breaking strength and the overall Ratchet Safety Strap has a 1533 lb. working load limit.

We doubled the hooks and added yellow zinc chromate finish, which offers better weather resistance and durability compared to standard chrome plating. Next to each hook there is an integrated soft loop. This lets you use the soft loop when the hook won’t fit so that you can wrap it around an axle or handlebar and pull it tight against the hook.

ShockStrap Ratchet Safety Strap Features Include:

• Industry Leading 2-year warranty
• Ratchet Safety Strap is rated over 4600 lbs. breaking strength
• Safety Strap around one side of the ShockStraps
• Commercial grade ratchet with outside release that is field replaceable
• 2” Polyester webbing rated at 5000 lbs. breaking strength
• Integrated Soft Ties near both ends
• Double Steel Hooks
• DOT approved-Working Load Limit of 1533 lbs.

Available in black only in 9’, 18’ and 32’ lengths for your BIG Toys! –To order call: 888-334-3456 or shop online at www.shockstrap.com or email sales@shockstrap.com.

2016 CLEVELAND WINNERS–
Ultimate Builder Custom Bike Show

Last year Cleveland got a pounding and the Polar Vortex had just begun to extend its icy fingers down from the Great White North. This year the weather was a balmy 60 degrees and the vortex is remembered like yesterday’s news.

Lines snaked outside the entrance into the International Motorcycle Show at the IX Center in Cleveland. The quality of the custom builds were stellar this year. It’s unfortunate that there is only 1 winner in each of the four classes as there were so many deserving motorcycles.

Dell Battle won the Hot Bike Editor’s Award for his 1991 Sportster named 72 Style Sporty. Court House Custom won the Street Chopper Magazine Editor’s Choice award.

Jesse Srpan took the SHO DOG award and received a solo bag from The Leatherworks for his work representing his company at the International Motorcycle Show.

J&P Cycles Ultimate Builder FreeStyle Class

Whenever Jeremy Cupp from LC Fabrications rolls a bike into a competition, you know he will be standing someplace on the podium. Cupp entered his bike Seven into the open class that allows for any type of drive train and any 2 or 3 wheel motorcycle as defined by the DMV. The Grottoes, Virginia native took top honors and rolled out of Cleveland with a check for $2,000 and a champion anvil ring from Speakeasy Original. We will be seeing him in Chicago at the US Championship competing for King of the Builder and a $10,000 payday.

Cupp used a Ducati topend, a Buell Blast case and a Triumph gearbox to create his own custom mill. He fabricated the frame, oil, gas tank, rear fender and engine shield. He also fabricated just about everything else but the tires and spokes. The bike got its name “Seven” because Cupp said that it’s the seventh proper motorcycle to roll out of the LC Fabrications garage.

1 – # 250 – Jeremy Cupp, LC Fabrications – 2015 Custom named Seven

2 – # 775 – Wayne Burgess – 2010 Shovelhead named Spitball Magoo

J&P Cycles Ultimate Builder MOD Harley Class

The MOD Harley class requires Harley-Davidson engine cases and frame. The neck may be cut to rake or stretch the frame.

The black and red paint on Dell Battle’s latest custom bike, 72 Style Sporty, really pops. The 1991 Sportster features tall billet wheels, custom exhaust, intake, custom tank, controls and swing arm. Air ride front and back allows the bike to look aggressive while at rest.

At the awards ceremony Dell jumped up on stage for his photo op and his $1,000 payday. Dell is heading to Chicago for the US Championship and the KING of the Builders award.

1 – # 925 – Dell Battle, Danerous Dezigns – 1991 Sportster named 72 Style Sporty

2 – # 150 – Demetrius Clarke, John Speed & Custom – 2007 Harley

J&P Cycles Ultimate Builder MOD Retro Class

MOD Retro is an open class for any build with a motorcycle based drive train1984 or older. It requires an OEM driveline with stock, modified or aftermarket frame.

Ed Kubiez worked with Jeese Basset at The GasBox to create an exceptional custom build of a 1965 BSA. The bike features 6” stretch and 4” lowered custom frame with Invader wheels and a rear perimeter brake system. Kustomtech handles the controls and a Hurst shift lever guides the shifting. Updates include a sectioned Superglide tank and late model dual carb heads.

1 – # 175 – Ed Kubiez, The GasBox – 1965 BSA

2 – # 100 – Austin Andrella, Austin Martin Originals – 1969 Triumph named Ole 69’er

Ed Kubiez’s next event is the US Championship in Chicago.

INDIAN MOTORCYCLE DISPLAYS THE ‘SPIRIT OF STURGIS’–
Klock Werks Kustom Cycles’ tribute heralds the Indian Motorcycle Scout owned by Sturgis Rally founder J.C. “Pappy” Hoel

Indian Motorcycle, America’s first motorcycle company, is proud to present the “Spirit of Sturgis”, a custom Indian Scout built by Klock Werks Kustom Cycles of Mitchell, S.D., as a modern day interpretation of the Indian Scout owned by J.C. “Pappy” Hoel, founder of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.

Klock Werks based the “Spirit of Sturgis” motorcycle on an original painting, titled “Pappy”, created by renowned artist David Uhl using a well-known photograph of Hoel and his #56 Scout in front of Hoel’s Indian dealership in Sturgis, S.D. Hoel opened the retail location and formed the Jackpine Gypsies in 1936. Two years later, the Jackpine Gypsies held the first rally known as the Black Hills Classic that has now become the largest and most iconic motorcycle rally in the world.

Up front on the “Spirit of Sturgis” Klock Werks utilized a modern front fender with classic braces, a newly designed number plate holder surrounding a D.O.T. headlight, a Klassic handlebar style with Motogadget bar-end turn signals, and Klock Werks’ new mid controls.

Out back, there’s a Klock Werks Outrider bobbed fender with number plates and fender pad color-matched to the seat, and a Vance & Hones Grenade exhaust that has been Cerakoted black and complements the black spoke wheels sourced from the Indian Motorcycle Accessories catalog.

Finally, a red and cream paint scheme by TExEfx was topped with reproduction tank decals and patina on the number plates to further supply an authentic look.

The “Spirit of Sturgis” is owned by Mark Marshall, a friend of Indian Motorcycle Sturgis proprietor Bruce Eide, who proudly owns the “Pappy” painting. The bike will be introduced Feb. 5 at the Progressive® International Motorcycle Shows® tour stop in Minneapolis and will go on to be displayed together with the “Pappy” painting at Indian Motorcycle Sturgis.

“The ‘Spirit of Sturgis’ is an exciting, modern Scout version of the 1936 original,” said builder Brian Klock. “Mark approached me and told me he was purchasing a Scout and wanted it to look like the bike in the ‘Pappy’ painting. The goal wasn’t to make it look super old, but to be more of an acknowledgment of Pappy and his commitment to motorcycling. I think it turned out great because it’s an absolutely ride-able custom but also tells a great story.”

“I have painted hundreds of pieces from this era and I believe the ‘Pappy’ work epitomizes the aesthetic of the era,” artist David Uhl said about his rendering used as a basis for the bike build. “This piece has an inherent understated narrative that speaks volumes about our unique American heritage. The entire background – his bike, the dealership, the rack on the wall – sums up the true spirit of Sturgis.”

“When we opened Indian Motorcycle Sturgis in 2014, we knew the ‘Pappy’ Hoel legacy would require the very best we could deliver,” added retailer Bruce Eide. “We think Pappy would be very proud to know that these many years later, his vision still inspires us.”

“We have seen many Indian Scout motorcycles customized recently,” commented Reid Wilson, Marketing Manager for Indian Motorcycle. “The ‘Spirit of Sturgis’ is another great example of what can be done to create a legendary custom out of an Indian Motorcycle.”

WHEN YOU CAN’T GIVE UP, WRITE–
A Brief Manifesto.

I have a bitch and a project that could save the custom motorcycle aftermarket and place freedom at the forefront of our nation once more.

Sounds ominous but it’s not, then again it is a tough alteration to current government thinking. I believe our industry could be at the forefront.

Why can’t we prove that Freedom always needs to be a consideration. Why can’t we prove that all the custom motorcycles in the country will never have any significant impact on the environment and agencies need to leave us alone.

If we were successful, this could place Freedom at the forefront in many applications from hot rods, to go carts, to speed boats.

Could this become a priority in 2016?

Great! I would also consider adding that the inherent freedom in people that work with their hands is at risk at the same time since 65% or the motorcycle industry is the mom and pop shop.

Many of the manufacturers who serve it are from the small manufacturing segment and need the support of those who would discourage government agencies from marginalizing their ability to make and offering the custom market and make a living to boot.

From the Editor

America was built on innovation, from the ingenious audacity to govern ourselves, to the industrial revolution, the space program, advancements in Silicon Valley and everything in-between – it’s what we do. We lead, we invent, we do what others think impossible.

So when you compare the size of the custom motorcycle market to car driving or manufacturing, our segment is insignificant. Yet we out-strip larger concerns in creativity, artistic sensibilities, hand-crafting and the kinds of grassroots skill sets that build and foster community and cultural progress. Still, government has made custom motorcycling the test bed for every onerous regulation, with environmental concerns as the excuse for this un-due attention.

Listen, I’m an environmentalist. I believe in appropriate stewardship of precious resources. That’s why I’m in favor of placing emphasis on the major producers of pollution and carbon emissions, the giants with coal-burning facilities and those millions of vehicles on the road whose combined emissions far outweigh the entire motorcycle market. Innovation in these segments would have massive impact.

Let the renegade run free! Give creative capabilities free reign to lead and innovate. As small as we are in terms of environmental impact, motorcycling is rife with authentic ideas, ability and the brilliant spark that could ignite the next big idea. If government must place restrictions, go to the volume segments, the ones doing the most damage every day we debate the issue. Our organizations: the MIC, the MRF, the AMA need to promote custom biking’s contributions and defend us as the innovators. It’s the freedom to discover, the hands-on mindset to figure out solutions, that made America what it is. Those qualities still exist in the custom motorcycle world and they absolutely must have the freedom to persist.

Here’s our progress report. We sent it to the MRF first. They are directly connected in Washington, although their lobbyist, Jeff Hennie retired last year and hit the open road. Only one board member was kind enough to respond. We also reached out to the NCOM, through Bill Bish. No report just yet. I’m also working with our 5-Ball Racing Partner Bob Kay, who is working closely with the MIC. He hopes to slip it under the door. We’ll keep you posted.

There must be the desire for Freedom somewhere?

LAW ENFORCEMENT MOTORCYCLE CLUB KEY TO VICTOR MENDOZA BIKER BRAWL DEATH?

By Michael Roberts

A photo from the scene of this weekend’s brawl involving two motorcycle clubs, with an inset photo showing a gun in the hand of the man on the left.

Motorcycle Profiling Project

The fallout continues from the biker brawl at the Colorado Motorcycle Expo on January 30 — a melee that killed a man now identified by the Denver coroner’s office as Victor Mendoza, 46, and injured several others.

Mendoza is said to have been a member of a motorcycle club known as the Mongols, which tangled with another MC, the Iron Order, at the event.

Both the Mongols and the Iron Order were dubbed Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs, or OMGs, in a 2014 study that stressed motorcycle club recruitment of present and past law enforcement officers and individuals associated with the military — and indeed, the Colorado Department of Corrections has confirmed that one of its employees was involved in the Denver incident.

Now, an organization called the National Council of Clubs has issued a press release and accompanying photos via the Motorcycle Profiling Project that appear to show an Iron Order member with a gun — although an Iron Order attorney has branded both the shot and the statement “outright fabrications.”

Here’s a closer look at the photo above, without the inset gun image. According to 7News, Mendoza can also be seen in this shot; he’s described as a bearded man wearing sunglasses at the bottom of the staircase.

UNCLE MONKEY ON PALS–
As bikers it is surprising how many people we know. From Bubba to Booboo, from Sidecar Randy to Triumph Terry we are the first ones to extend our hand of friendship because you just never know. New friends mean new destinations, new roads and routes to be ridden.

There are new stories to be heard, old stories to be shared. Under counters and dark garage corners we find the parts we need, the parts we want – find someone to take away our own. On the road our phones are full of names and contacts in case we need a hand. If we don’t know anyone someone else does to get us back on the road, to get us out of the rain.

Sadly, it is impossible to know everyone even in your own home town. New people buy new bikes. Others dust off a machine that hasn’t seen the light of day in years. There are those who satellite around the outside the circle of friends dipping in once and awhile to say hi, or to share a beer.

Maybe you are the type to be the first one there – last one to leave while others show up late and are gone before their dust settles. We know people for years as Pappy or Princess Her never learning their real names leaving us scratching our head when someone asks if we know John Thompson or Eleanor Brown. We just know a different version of the person than they do.

So one way or another, we will eventually get to know everyone, everywhere. We just might not recognize the name.

PIRELLI RACING ACTION–
Pirelli Riders Head to Glendale for First Time on Monster Energy Supercross Schedule

The Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, heads east to Glendale, Arizona and University of Phoenix Stadium this Saturday, February 6, for round 5 of 17. This weekend is the first stop outside of sunny Southern California since the season began just one month ago.

Leading the charge for Pirelli riders is Justin Brayton, the seasoned veteran who has finished inside the 450SX Class top-10 during the first four rounds. He has experienced previous success in the “Grand Canyon State”, which saw him take his SCORPION MX tires to a second place finish and narrowly miss out on victory in 2014 when the series stopped in Phoenix.

Brayton’s BTO Sports/WPS/KTM teammate, Davi Millsaps, is looking to get himself back in the mix after a couple of bobbles kept him from reaching his potential this past weekend in Oakland. He is a former podium finisher in the 450SX Class at Phoenix in 2013, where he was credited with a third place finish. Expect for him to find his groove again this weekend.

The closing laps of last weekend’s 450SX Main Event witnessed a scary crash for Autotrader/Monster Energy/Yamaha’s Weston Peick. Fortunately, he escaped injury and will be back on the starting gate in Glendale where he is seeking redemption. JGRMX teammate Phil Nicoletti aims to continue his string of Main Event appearances, placing his #34 Yamaha in each Main Event he has contested as he fills in for the injured Justin Barcia.

TPJ Racing is coming off of a successful weekend, which included multiple riders in the Main Events as Nick Schmidt qualified in the 450SX class and Killian Auberson in the 250SX Class. It marked Auberson’s first Main Event this season. Fellow privateer riders Teddy Parks and Alex Ray continue progressing towards their Main Event goals.

Motorcycle Superstore Suzuki’s Kyle Cunningham is carrying momentum from three consecutive top-10 finishes in the 250SX Class. He currently sits inside the top-10 in the Western Regional 250SX Class point standings, but will be looking to improve as he perfects his starting technique. MAD Racing/Dirt Candy Graphics/Suzuki fill-in rider Luke Clout will be out indefinitely as he recovers from a broken femur suffered in Oakland. Best wishes sent to the friendly Australian on a speedy recovery.

Supercross action from University of Phoenix Stadium gets underway on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at 6:00p.m. PT and can be viewed on FS1. Check local listings for channel information.

AMAZING BearTek Gloves, the Smartest Glove Available, Launches Indiegogo Campaign– For Their Next Generation Glove

Added features expand customization of the wearable technology for outdoor enthusiasts and offer a developer’s kit to control your world

BearTek Gloves, the smart gloves that wirelessly control phones, music, GoPro cameras, and have the potential to control the world by simply tapping your fingers together, announced today that it is launching a crowd funding campaign via Indiegogo to offer the next generation of smart gloves to the public. The company plans to raise $40,000 on Indiegogo to further the development of their revolutionary wearable technology.

The Crowdfunding campaign takes place within a 45-day period starting February 4, 2016, ending in mid-March. The chosen platform is the American-based, yet globally exposed, Indiegogo where funding for all campaigns can be made from public rewards-based donations.

BearTek Gloves are completely unique in the exploding wearable technology space. The gloves are specifically designed for outdoor enthusiasts to make their adventures safer, more enjoyable and uninterrupted by seamlessly integrating Bluetooth capabilities into a premium glove.

Since the launch of BearTek Gloves in 2013, customers have embraced the wearable technology as a part of their everyday lives and the company is continually innovating their gloves to meet customers’ needs. BearTek Generation I used the tagline “Hidden Inside this Glove is a Revolution.”

The mantra around BearTek Generation II gloves is “Control Your World” which means there are more options to customize the gloves and the technology based on the user’s preferences, lifestyle and application needs.

Among new designs and capabilities, Generation II gloves will include a liner option that can be used under other gloves when users want BearTek functionality, but still want to slip on other gloves. The liner option will also be appropriate as a cool weather glove for running and other general purposes. BearTek is expanding their line of high quality glove designs for snow sports, motor sports, hunting, equestrian and cycling activities as well as in the work place.

The company has also announced an impressive new customized control that aligns the brand with the new technology in the Generation II BearTek Gloves, the new BearTek App. The App makes it easy to control and customize the gloves by adjusting the settings to their individual devices.

If that wasn’t enough, BearTek will also offer a developer’s kit in Generation II so others can modify the glove to control any App or any device imaginable. BearTek’s long-term vision is that every glove will be “Powered by BearTek” as they continue to work with other brands to incorporate their technology into their gloves. The Indiegogo campaign will release the names of their first few licensees that will be “Powered by BearTek.”

THE AUSTRALIAN CLUB REPORT–
Approach by motorcycle club allegedly sparks Aussie prison violence

New South Wales media are reporting that an un-named motorcycle club is targeting Tongans in a recruitment drive within the state’s jails, allegedly sparking a war among rival Pacific Islander groups.

The reports claim senior bikers (from the un-named club) have approached the Tongans, known for their size and toughness, because the two groups already have close ties within the state’s prisons.

But the move has caused simmering tensions between Tongan and Samoan prison gangs to boil over, with officers at the maximum security Goulburn Correctional Centre allegedly firing live bullets and tear gas to break up a brawl between five inmates on Tuesday morning.

Another fight erupted in the afternoon between the rival groups, with one inmate taken to hospital with serious injuries. Un-named ‘sources’ have been cited saying the fight was sparked by the two Pacific Islander gangs.

Prison ‘sources’ say the gang problem inside jails is rising, with prison staff concerned about the increasing number of inmates being recruited while serving time. Muslim inmates are also being recruited by senior Middle Eastern crime gangs, including Brothers For Life street gang.

Public Service Association Corrections Branch chairman Steve McMahon said the motorcycle club’s recent recruiting attempts along with overcrowding has escalated violence in the prisons.

“We believe the outlaw motorcycle gangs are recruiting among certain ethnic groups and that’s contributing to some of the violence,” Mr McMahon said.

“It’s about the way they’ve formed up into gangs and about who has the control.”

Mr McMahon said the government needed to “take the gang situation more seriously”.

“We don’t believe the department are doing enough in relation to addressing the presence of gangs in the prison system,” he said.

“We’d like them to take it seriously and actually put all the programs in place to deal with it or investigate and share with us what credible evidence that support their notion that gangs are not a problem.”

According to prisons authorities, motorcycle clubs still control the bulk of the prison drug trade, with allegations the Hells Angels are running Long Bay Jail, the Comancheros and Bandidos control Lithgow, and the Rebels are strong in Goulburn. Brothers For Life allegedly maintain a ‘violent’ presence at every prison in NSW.

Adding to the mix, longstanding white supremacist prison gang W2K (Willing To Kill) also still has a strong representation within the jail system, with one member, armed robber Aaron John Errington, starting a brawl at Parklea jail earlier this month.

The other inmates became aggressive when officers tried to restrain Errington after he reportedly spat on a guard.

Corrective Services Commissioner Peter Severin said: “We do take gangs seriously. There are gangs in our system as there are gangs in other correctional systems.”

SLAMTAIL YOUR 2016 SOFTAIL–
Victoria, Australia – Let it be known that Slamtail, the world’s only hydraulically actuated lowering system for Softails, can be installed on the all 2016 Harley Softail models.

Whether you purchase the recently released CVO Pro Street Breakout or the new for 2016 Fat Boy S and Slim S you can rest assure that the Slamtail will fit your ride.
Thanks to Ken Rutherford’s forward thinking engineering and a simple design, the Slamtail will even fit those models that come from the factory already lowered like the Fat Boy Lo and Deluxe.

In fact when put on factory “lowered” models the Slamtail will actually give you more clearance when in the up position than the bike had stock. This kit perfectly integrates with the Softail look and when it is installed it is virtually invisible from the outside.

Since the stock OEM shocks are reused and the fact that Softail frames have not dramatically changed since the Twin Cam B engine was introduced, the Slamtail will fit any Softail dating back to the frame redesign in model year 2000. That means it doesn’t matter whether you own a discontinued model like the blacked out Night Train, chromed out Custom, retro Springer, straightforward Standard, or the stretched tank Deuce, you can still set up your ride with the Slamtail.

Slamtail is a high quality product with a unique design. It is easy to install, retains the OEM ride quality and can be ridden at any height. The closed loop hydraulic operation will never leak and offers owners reliable, quiet, linear operation when raising or lowering your Softail.

It is guaranteed to fit the hundreds of thousands of stock frame Twin Cam powered Softails produced since 2000. In other words Slamtail will seamlessly integrate with all OEM variants including: 88, 96, 103 & 110-inch engines; Five and Six-speed transmissions; with or without ABS, carbon canister, or OEM exhaust flapper valve. In addition since the original spring/shock units are reused, easy access to the stock transmission drain plug is retained.

It seems like the aftermarket hasn’t produced any new, innovative and exciting products for Softail models in recent years. Well thanks to Slamtail, we now have one that ticks all the boxes, and the icing on the cake, is the key-fob remote control!

To upgrade you Softail contact Slamtail. Email Ken Rutherford at Ken@Slamtail.com or check them out at www.Slamtail.com. While visiting the website there be sure to check out the videos of the Slamtail in action.

BIKERNET LEGISLATION OF THE WEEK–

My name is John Cox, and I want our legislators to wear the logos of their top campaign donors when they are the Floor of the Assembly and the Senate. The ballot initiative is that simple.

Have you ever seen a NASCAR driver decked out in the logos of his sponsors? Everyone knows who writes his checks, who pays his bills, and what corporations he is paid to support.

Our politicians are paid to do the same thing. They legislate on behalf of their sponsors. They testify in defense of special interests. They pass laws that damage our state and sell out California’s citizens.

I have spent my life fighting corruption, and I think it’s about time we said, “Enough is enough!” This is the first step. We need to make the bribery and graft that is so pervasive in our state a red letter issue that can’t be ignored.

If you would like to know more, visit our website: www.CaliforniaIsNotForSale.com

And most importantly, if you think corruption needs to be brought to light in California, download and sign our petition today. And get as many of your friends and family to sign it as well!

QUICK, KEEP THE BIKENET BAD JOKE LIBRARY OPEN–
One day God and Adam were walking the garden. God told Adam it was time to populate the earth. He told Adam, “Adam, you can start by kissing Eve.” Adam replied, “God, what is a kiss?” God told Adam, and Adam went and took Eve behind the bush and kissed her.

A little while later, Adam came back out with a big smile and exclaimed “Wow, Lord! That was great!! What next?” God declared, “Adam, I now want you to caress Eve.”

Adam asks, “Lord what is caress?” God explained it to Adam and he again took her behind the bush. A little while later, he came out and declared, “Lord that was even better than a kiss! What next?”

God replied, “Here is what gets the deed done. I now want you to take Eve and make love to her.”

Adam asked “Lord, what is make love?” God explained it; Adam took Eve behind the bush — and a few seconds later, came out, asking, “Lord, what is a headache?”

INTERESTING—
Humans being have done some very bad shit, on the other hand we create many amazing and talented revelations. But one thing is certain. Most of us never give up.

Here’s something from the mountain: Through all objective vicissitudes, we must never lose sight of growth and progress as our purpose in life.

–Venerable Master Hsing Yun

Interesting but there’s more, which I find very interesting and I faced an example today. I have a drug and emotionally troubled relative. He sent me an e-mail last night and I could have polished my baseball bat and gone to war. But I thought about some teachings that seem to keep me centered. It’s called the eight-fold path and it’s simple.

I swear it changes from time to time, but here’s the notion: Right view, right thought, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right direction. If you start to get pissed off, think what’s the right view in this situation. Sorta brings you into focus. I need all I can get to keep me focused.

Have a helluva weekend and don’t drink and ride after the game.

Ride Free forever,
