Sturgis Postcard – Indian Scout First Ride

Hi everyone, A quick quip from Sturgis. I had loads of fun riding the new Indian Scout yesterday. 558 pounds dripping wet, straight torque curve, 100 hp, nimble and quick for under $11.000. Aside from the heritage of a revered name, Indian has clearly left the nostalgia behind to focus on the present with this bike. There’s gonna be haters of course, but riding is believing. I will tell you more when I return, with a complete report on my first impressions. Hit this banner to find out more about the Scout. Advertisement

Oh, Oh, Look What Happens to Gasohol!

Part Two – Gasohol…Good or Bad? I wasn’t sure how much would happen in the 30 days since I wrote the last article ‘Gasohol…Good or Bad?’. I originally thought I might wait another month, but after all I have seen in the last 30 days, I knew I had to inform you as soon as possible. On the trip down to Daytona Bikeweek I tested the fuel at every gas station I filled up at. I stopped 3 times for fuel and all the pumps had stickers claiming up to 10% Ethanol. Two of the stations had fuel that was at the 10% Ethanol line and one had only 5% ethanol. READ more….

Bikers To Have Enhanced Verizon Network Support At Sturgis Rally

Verizon Wireless has boosted its data network capacity eight times for the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.  Because of the influx of more than 750,000 people expected for the event, Verizon has boosted its network by increasing its deployment of mobile cell sites from two in 2013 to five and adding more 4G LTE data capacity with the addition of its newest XLTE network technology. XLTE utilizes Verizon’s AWS (Advanced Wireless Services) spectrum, which allows Verizon to deliver significantly increased capacity over its high-speed 4G LTE network.  This means more customers in high-traffic locations can access the company’s most advanced technology at the same time to send photos, download videos, surf the Internet and use other popular applications on their smartphones, tablets and other devices during times of peak usage. Joining the “hogs” in the area, are Verizon’s COWS and COLTS – temporary cell sites, known as Cell on Wheels (COWS) or Cell on Light Truck (COLT).  For 2014 Verizon has added three COWS near Jim’s Salvage Yard, north of downtown Sturgis and near the Buffalo Chip Campground and a COLT near the Glencoe Campground.  In addition, a small cell was added to the Sturgis Community Center Building.  In addition to these temporary sites, Verizon added additional capacity to existing cell sites in the Sturgis area.
