BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRARY OPENS FOR THE NEWS–

When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24hours in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and the 2Beers.  A professor stood before his philosophy class andhad some items in front of him.  When the class began, hewordlessly picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar andproceeded to fill it with golf balls.  He then asked thestudents if the jar was full.  They agreed that itwas.  The professor then picked up a box of pebbles andpoured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly.  Thepebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full.  Theyagreed it was.  The professor next picked up a box of sandand poured it into the jar.  Of course, the sand filled upeverything else.  He asked once more if the jar wasfull..  The students responded with a unanimous ‘yes.’ The professor then produced two Beers from under the table and pouredthe entire contents into the jar effectively filling the empty spacebetween the sand.  The students laughed…

‘Now,’said the professor as the laughter subsided, ‘I want you to recognizethat this jar represents your life.  The golf balls are theimportant things—your family, your children, your health, yourfriends and your favorite passions—and if everything else was lostand only they remained, your life would still be full.  Thepebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your houseand your car..  The sand is everything else—the smallstuff.  ‘If you put the sand into the jar first,’ hecontinued, ‘there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life.  If you spend all your time andenergy on the small stuff you will never have room for the thingsthat are important to you.  Pay attention to the things thatare critical to your happiness.  Spend time with yourchildren.  Spend time with your parents.  Visitwith grandparents.  Take your spouse out to dinner. Play another 18 holes of golf.  There will always be time toclean the house, fix the disposal or deal with things from yourjob.  Take care of the golf balls first—the things thatreally matter.  Set your priorities.  The rest isjust sand.  One of the students raised her hand and inquiredwhat the Beer represented.  The professor smiled and said,’I’m glad you asked.’  The Beer just shows you that nomatter how full your life may seem, there’s always room for a coupleof Beers with a friend.

BIKERNET NEEDS THIS IN WALLET SIZE–

Palm Beach, FL – The Find It Now GPS theft recovery team received notice of a stolen 2017 Honda TRX250X ATV. Using the FIN GPS security device installed at the time of purchase from Broward Motorsports in Palm Beach, FL, along with state-of-the-art software and tracking tools, a FIN theft recovery expert was able to quickly obtain the location of the stolen ATV.

FIN worked closely with Palm Beach police to provide specific coordinates of the stolen quad. After careful surveillance, police attempted recovery at a residence only 3 miles from the theft location. The thief was ultimately arrested for not only the theft of the ATV, but also on the possession of illegal drugs and firearms. The teenage owner and mother were pleasantly surprised to have the ATV recovered with no damage.

BIKERNET TOOL OF THE WEEK– ® No. 5516 XL Sprocket Nut Socket

This short socket is designed specifically for Sportster models to remove, install, and properly tighten the final drive sprocket/pulley nut. Although the much longer Big Twin socket will fit the nut, the mainshaft on XL models does not extend through the main drive gear for the guidance collar to ensure correct alignment. This 1/2” drive shorter socket is easier and safer to handle, providing full contact to the nut. JIMS No. 5516 features JIMS® lifetime tool warranty, is proudly made in the USA with a suggested retail price of $71.00.  For use on all 1991-present Sportster and Buell models. (Except 1125R). For more info, contact sales@jimsusa.com, visit www.jimsusa.com, or call (805) 482-6913.  Check out the video on our new You Tube page, JIMS USA

BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRARY OPEN EVEN WHEN THE BOSS IS AWAY–

Today, a friend’s wife said to him, “Honey, get off your rear and fix that gutter downspout – And, I want it done before the end of the day!”

Well, as you all know, at my age, my friend, and most of our friends, are retired and do have the time to address such ‘Honey do’s’.

So, he invited some of his neighborhood buddies over to help with the project.

One is a sheet metal fabricator.

One brought his welder.

One brought beer and Nachos.

One brought a grill and burgers.

Took us about 6 hours, and 30-40 beers, but we got it done just as we finished off the last of the beer and burgers.

As usual, the wife is still not happy!

I can’t understand it, cause all us guys love it!

Personally, I cannot wait for rain.

Nothing better than a cup of coffee or Jack and one of your books. Tell the redhead I see her influence in the writing. Who new he was a cross of 007 and Bourne. I like the touch of Russian gangsters. Keep up the great work.

AN EPIPHANY IN STURGIS FROM THE EYES OF A WOMEN OVER 40–

So there were so many things going into this rally. Excited and pincher for time I trailered. Yes I have road my own for so many years but I so wanted to be here. Some of the craziest things happen to me that were just sad and hysterical I decided it would at least give the reader a better look into the maturing female motorcyclists.

It started with guys making fun of the female with a pink bike being towed by a Challenger. Until they walked up and realized it wasn’t just any Challenger it was a Scatpack Shaker with a 6.4. What became funny is the comments, “What does he say about you taking his car?” Priceless was the look when I said, “It’s mine. I special ordered this baby and waited 5+ months for it!” Even more so the comments and looks as I drove to my destination. Even meeting a fellow owner of a Scatpack Shaker coming into South Dakota, what a small world since less than 1000 of them.

What I found more and more was the mature women motorcyclist standing on her own. Many of us never fit it, hence the reason we ride. To the newly single women in the grocery store diaper isle putting on reading glasses to find condoms and read about them after they had been exchanged for a younger model. To the comments as I continued, “Why wasn’t I warned? I’m riding and I’m itching like crazy and I’m like what is on my face at 80 miles an hour? I look in the mirror to see my cheeks behind my f@$king ear lobes! What the hell.”  To the vendor shaking her head, ”they really should put a tag in those spandex that give an age limit!”

So over an over I found mature women coming to Sturgis alone, with friends or family but with life changing events that had occurred throughout the years and as I have found peace in those Black Hills before I once again sought out their comfort. Where life changing things manifest in the seat of my Harley Davidson. Where only the hills can hear grief and embrace the pain that life can hand out. To reconcile loss of friends, family, children, marriages and jobs. To cry, to laugh, to ponder in the silence of everything but the roar of those pips and shout or scream things that only these Hills hear and give something that only these hills can give to you. In all the years of coming to Sturgis, this one has manifested itself into an epiphany for so many of female friends my age in the Black Hills! Being able to formulate the language of letting go of a child, a husband, a loved one a dear friend being found in the silence of the hills and the Roar of an engine and the kiss of the wind and the sun on your face! As the grief of great loss is tossed to the wind, and the hugs of friends seen maybe once a year, the return? It fills the soul with hope, love and the courage to step beyond the pain life can sometimes hand a person and heal the heart with laughter, love and memories of a lifetime!

Pirelli Riders Return to Action This Weekend at Unadilla for Pro Motocross

ROME, Ga. (August 11, 2016) – The Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship is set to return to racing this weekend in New Berlin, New York for the 10th round of the season at the legendary Unadilla Motocross Park. The star-studded field will be fully rested as they return from a two-week break and prepare for the final three rounds of the rigorous and grueling summer schedule. Located in beautiful upstate New York, riders are often greeted with some of the best weather of the season, however, thunderstorms are a high possibility throughout the day. Pirelli will be prepared for all conditions with its wide-range SCORPION™MX tire lineup, including the MX32™, all-new MX32™ PRO and MX Soft 410.

Autotrader/Monster Energy/Yamaha’s Justin Barcia is a New York native and sure to be one of the most popular riders as thousands of energetic fans cheer him on when he hits the track on Saturday. The past several races have witnessed a spark in his riding, including several moto podiums and a bump to fourth place in the overall standings. “Bam Bam” thrives off of energy and it would not be a surprise to see him lead the 40-rider 450 Class field into the first turn this weekend.

Much like his teammate Barcia, Phil Nicoletti was born and raised in New York, making him one of the fan favorites each time he competes at the hilly circuit. He seems to gel with the familiar soil and has recorded some of his career-best finishes at Unadilla. Weston Peick compliments his fellow JGRMX teammates well and has been on an absolute tear as of lately, which includes a fourth place overall finish at the last round in Washougal.

Rookie sensation Benny Bloss continues to impress and show signs of improvements with each gate drop. The BTO Sports/WPS/KTM rider has gone from beginning the season battling for top-15 finishes to knocking on the door for his first-ever top five. Veterans Andrew Short and Justin Brayton are the perfect balance to the BTO Sports team and both riders have been consistently putting in solid top-10 finishes. Short had a slow start to the season while recovering from injuries, but he’s proven he still has what it takes to hang with the front-runners.

The Privateer Journey Racing (TPJ) team is the heart and soul of American motocross and Pirelli extends their support far beyond the factory race team transporters. TPJ fields several talented riders in both, the 250 and 450 class, all who are given the opportunity to race on the same tires used by the Autotrader/Monster Energy/Yamaha and BTO Sports/WPS/KTM teams thanks to Pirelli’s “we sell what we race, we race what we sell” motto.

Leading the way in the highly competitive 250 Class will be the Motorcycle Superstore Suzuki team that has claimed several strong finishes with Texan Kyle Cunningham and Jimmy Albertson. Luke Clout remains the lone rider for the MAD Racing/Dirt Candy Graphics/Suzuki squad and is looking forward to racing at Unadilla for the first time in his career.

The opening motos from the Unadilla National kick off on Saturday, August 13, 2016 at 1pm ET and can be viewed on MAV TV, while second motos can be viewed on promotocross.com at 3pm ET. Check local listings for channel information.

BIKERNET WENT DOWN TO GEORGIA — CHARLIE DANIELS RELEASES NEW ALBUM ‘NIGHT HAWK’ AUGUST 26

2016 Inductee to The Country Music Hall of Fame Shows No Signs of Slowing Down Amidst Induction, Museum Exhibit and 80th Birthday Celebrations

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (August 11, 2016) – Charlie Daniels has never fit into any certain label, purposely creating a sound and blend of music all his own. The new album, Night Hawk, stays true to that tradition with Daniels putting a unique spin on cowboy songs both well known and uncovered from through the years. The album will be available on August 26 at www.CharlieDaniels.com, FYE, and wherever music is sold.

Night Hawk will be available for presale on August 15 here where the first 100 autographed copies sold will also be hand numbered by Charlie Daniels himself.

“Most of our concepts about cowboys, and all things western, are mostly derived from movies and TV. Well, the truth of the matter is, the real cowboys are not glow in the dark characters who go around fighting rustlers and cleaning out saloons with their fists. The actual working cowboy is a hard working, different breed who spend endless hours in the saddle and as Louis L’Amour said, they ‘ride for the brand.’ Night Hawk is a tribute to the working cowboy and his way of life,” said Charlie Daniels.

Night Hawk is a reflection of stories from the trail told by cowboys around the campfire through the years. Many of the songs, introduced in an acoustic style, are obscure songs with deep meaningful lyrics, while some are classics presented in a new way.

NIGHT HAWK TRACK LISTING:
1.     Big Balls In Cowtown
2.     Billy The Kid
3.     Night Hawk
4.     Stay All Night (Stay A Little Longer)
5.     Goodnight Loving Trail
6.     (Ghost) Riders in the Sky: A Cowboy Legend
7.     Running With The Crowd
8.     Old Chisholm Trail
9.     Can’t Beat The Damned Ole Machine
10.   Yippie Ki Yea

The album comes in the midst of one of the most important years of Charlie Daniels’ career. In early 2016 it was announced that he would become the newest inductee to the Country Music Hall of Fame, along with Randy Travis and Fred Foster. The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum curtailed that with the announcement of an exhibit in his honor, called Million Mile Reflections, set to open September 23. Adding to the fun, Kid Rock, Chris Stapleton, Travis Tritt, Larry the Cable Guy and more will join Charlie in celebration at his 80th Birthday Volunteer Jam on November 30 at Bridgestone Arena. Tickets for the much anticipated event can be purchased HERE.

BIKERNET STURGIS REPORT — Fashion forward at 2016 Sturgis rally means corsets or no clothes at all

The biker fashion statement has always been made with denim, leather and metal — sometimes spiced up by fishnet and lace.

The fashion scene in Sturgis this year is no different. Many riders still favor jeans and a cotton T-shirt, the can’t miss attire at the rally.

And yet, trends do trundle forward.

Noticeable mainly among the belles of the biker scene, the hot 2016 rally look features old-school garments like corsets, but also the can’t-stop-staring body paint approach that makes naked people look like they are wearing clothes, animal skins or American flags.

After a day of trolling for trends at the 2016 rally, here is a glance at what’s hot to wear in Sturgis this year.

Corsets come back

On Tuesday morning, Andra Stark got cinched into her new corset on Main Street. The garment that tightens the midriff, colored black-purple-gold brocade with front metal hooks, hugged her figure in a slimming way. It also showed off the tattoos on her chest and on the length her arms.

Stark, 35, of Texas, describes her new purchase as “sexy” and “fun.” Back home in Houston, she has a black leather corset and a white one she wore at her wedding in 2011.

Corsets with metal closures in front, like Stark’s, have been best-sellers at Biker’s Den, a clothing store on Main Street in Sturgis. This is the first time the Daytona Beach, Fla.-based retailer has sold the design at the Sturgis rally.

Their popularity might be due to the relative ease of putting them on and taking them off, says store personnel Aisha Jabouir. The original corsets, which the store also sells in Sturgis, has lacings both in the front and back that require more effort, she explains.

A body as art

David Caballero shares the theory to explain a higher-than-average request for U.S. flags this year in his body-painting business.

Most of Caballero’s customers are women, and almost all of them want a “chest piece” or a “corset,” he said. This means they leave his shop, just off Main Street, wearing nothing but body paint and breast pasties.

At the last rally, a lot of women asked for the Confederate flag, said Caballero. But this year the U.S. flag has stolen the spotlight.

Scant clothing draws eyes

Many heads along Sturgis’ Main Street have turned at the sight of women in tiny black bikinis, or chaps over nothing but underwear, or paint in lieu of an actual clothed top.

“Women here like to show their bodies more,” said Rita Farhat, co-owner of Biker’s Den.

She said Sturgis shoppers particularly like designs that showcase their chests, such as shirts with custom-made slits in front.

T-shirts still cool

At Tom’s T’s, a Sturgis business that sells official rally apparel, the best-selling shirt is the “black official.” It simply means a black T-shirt bearing the official rally logo, which incorporates a bald eagle’s head, two bikers, several bison and eagle feathers under the words “Black Hills Motor Classic.”

Since her husband created the official T-shirt three decades ago, the store has sold a bunch at each rally, shop owner Vicki Monahan said. She hasn’t kept track of exactly how many pieces are sold every year.

Other vendors say their most sought T-shirts are those representing Sturgis and South Dakota. For instance, a motorcycle against the backdrop of Mount Rushmore, a skeleton version of Wild Bill Hickok on a horse and Main Street Sturgis filled with bikers.

A vest, leather boots and a head band complete the look.

The patches prove it

Patches bearing skeletons, the bald eagle, the Harley-Davidson shield, Native American symbols and the U.S. flag have always been popular at Teo Schizas’ Sturgis rally store.

Schizas hardly had time to talk Tuesday morning as he sewed patch after patch on biker vests, as his customers waited in line.

As expected, this year he has sold a lot of patches bearing the words “Sturgis 2016.” Rallygoers commemorate their attendance this way, said the entrepreneur from Indianapolis, Ind.

But he has noticed that Stars and Stripes have been especially popular this year. He pointed to three designs that have stood out: an almost black-and-white rendering of the flag, a bright-colored version with singed borders and the flag in the shape of a skull.

“It’s possibly the election” that is fueling the trend, Schizas’ says.

MOTORCYCLES AS ART- SKIN & BONES —
One of the first must see events on my annual trek to the Sturgis Rally, is the Motorcycles As Art event put on by Michael Lichter at the Russ Brown Events Center located near the East Gate of the Buffalo Chip

This years theme, Skin and Bones, drew inspiration from the world of Tattoos, with a dedication to the well known New Jersey Tattoo artist tragically killed at the Smokeout Event in 2015.  Richie Pan (short for Panarra) was memorialized, along with his motorcycle on center display, as well as some of his artwork lining the walls of the Event Center

BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRARY KEEPS THE JOKE GOING–

After landing my new job as a Walmart Greeter –  a good find for many retirees, I lasted less than a day .

About two hours into my first day on the job a very loud, unattractive, mean-acting trailer-trash babe walked into the store with her two kids, yelling obscenities at them all the way through the entrance.

As I had been instructed, I said, pleasantly, “Good morning and welcome to Walmart.”  I then said, “Nice children you have there…Are they twins?”

The woman stopped yelling long enough to say, “No, they ain’t effin twins. The oldest one’s 9, and the other one’s 7, why the hell would you think they’re twins? Are you blind, or just effin stupid?”

I replied, “I’m neither blind nor stupid, Madam. I just couldn’t believe someone laid you twice…Have a good day and thank you for shopping at Walmart.”

My supervisor said I probably wasn’t cut out for this line of work…

STURGIS SHORTCUT REPORT —New unpaved road to Sturgis, Fort Meade Way, gets mixed reviews

Sharon Baumberger is trying to take the high road concerning her disdain for the new Fort Meade Way.

She’s one of many who have a front-row seat — either as a resident or as a motorist — to the new stretch of gravel road that connects Interstate 90 to the south side of Sturgis.

The short road was controversial when it was planned, and when it was approved and built over the past year. It’s seen as a backdoor way into the rally and large campgrounds like the Buffalo Chip, but it also runs through land that for years was only ranches and quiet homesteads.

“We have to be adults about it, even though we’re frustrated,” said Baumberger, who is on the resident side of the equation.

“We don’t care for the noise, but we’re tolerating it,” she said Monday afternoon.

Baumberger and her husband, Rod, have lived along the route of the new Fort Meade Way for decades. They’ve hosted biker friends during the rally for years, but the speeding traffic on the new direct route to the Buffalo Chip campground and Highway 34 has them seeing red.

“We’ve offered law enforcement the second approach to our place, but they haven’t taken us up on it,” she said. “There’s lots and lots and lots of vehicles and most of them are speeding.”

In a span of about 30 minutes Sunday, about half the vehicles heading north on Fort Meade Way tripped the automatic radar speed display above the posted 25 mph limit.

Baumberger said the speed display had been placed further down the hill to the south of their place, but then once vehicles passed the sign they would speed up.

“Most are at least 10 over, and that’s a minimum,” she said.

The South Dakota Department of Transportation put vehicle-counters across the road on Fort Meade Way. It shows that since Tuesday, Aug. 2, a total of 12,997 vehicles have used the new road. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, most of those were northbound vehicles.

On Sunday, Susan and Brent Kallhoff took the bypass road from the Lamphere Ranch campground as they were headed to Rapid City.

“I’m OK with it,” Brent said as he pulled the bike to a stop at the road’s intersection with Pleasant Valley Road. “It would be nice if it were paved, but it’s better than going through downtown Sturgis to get to Rapid City.”

Backers of the road said it would reduce traffic on streets in downtown Sturgis, and alleviate traffic that is forced to go from I-90, through downtown, and then to the east where some big campgrounds reside.

Lee Davis of New York, who also drove the road Sunday, said he felt duped by publicity that characterized the road as a biker scenic byway.“It needs to be paved,” he said.

Buffalo Chip owner Rod Woodruff said he has heard nothing but positive comments on the new road.

“We are getting compliment after compliment on how great the new road is and the convenience,” he said.

Fort Meade Way has been hailed by some as a quicker, alternative route around Sturgis.

They also have said that it would be a perfect route for emergency vehicles to get to points east of Sturgis in a timely manner.

“We were sitting out front of the house after the accident at Buffalo Chip last night (a stage accident that injured four people), and we saw no emergency vehicles on this road,” Baumberger said. “And they said it still took 20 minutes to get someone out there.”

The controversial bypass road east of Sturgis opened to the public at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, June 7.

The 5.6-mile road stretches from I-90 Exit 37 on the south, where it intersects with Pleasant Valley Road, to just south of the Buffalo Chip Campground on the north.

Meade County commissioners who approved the road have taken a verbal bashing during the process of constructing the road. Initially, they planned to float a tax-increment financing district to fund the new road, but county residents gathered enough signatures to send it to a vote.

In March 2015, Meade County voters soundly defeated the proposal 2,493 to 853.

Some, like Woodruff, championed building the road for more than 30 years.

The speed limit is 45 mph, but 25 mph on the south end, formerly known as Cardinal Place, near the Baumbergers.

“It used to be that if there was a motorcycle that went down this road it was coming to our house because we’re the last house on the road,” she said. “Our biker friends who have been coming back for 16 years now are just appalled at the noise.”

BIKERNET UNIVERSITY LUNCH LADY WORD OF THE DAY —

Fletcherize: FLECH-uh-rahyz
verb
1.
to chew (food) slowly and thoroughly.

Quotes
… don’t choke down your food. Eat slowly. Fletcherize–chew your food, you know. I know you’re nearly famished, but you must gradually accustom yourself to a proper diet.
— L. Frank Baum, Aunt Jane’s Nieces Out West, 1914

Origin of Fletcherize
Fletcherize is the verb form of Fletcherism, “the practice of chewing food until it is reduced to a finely divided, liquefied mass.” The method gets its name from U.S. nutritionist Horace Fletcher. Both the verb and noun entered English in the early 1900s.

BOB FLECKENSTEIN R.I.P.
Sent by Chuck Basney
It is with great sorrow I let you know that we have lost one of the finest motorcycle and all around engine builders there was. Bobby Fleckenstein passed away at 85 years of age. He bought most of Shel Thuets Indian Scouts and revamped the engine of FDB 381 that many riders rode and did well on in the 60’s. Bobby was one of my best friends and i will miss him so very much. He was the Balancing Manager for Edelbrock and Vick’s right hand man. He made many famous engines run very fast. He did the balancing on the “Miss Budweiser” Hydroplane back in the days when it used an Allison aircraft engine for power. He also did the balancing on the Novi Indianapolis cars. He considered everyone his friend and always had a big smile on his face. RIP my friend. I love you and will see you on the other side. BDL’s New Ball Bearing Pressure Plates offer Noticeable Benefits–

BDL recently released a pair of new pressure plates that noticeably improve positive feel at the lever. Additionally the redesigned plates ensure a flawless release onto the clutch pack and enhanced lock-up. BPP-600 is an upgrade for 1990-up open belt drive kits using the standard cable system and the BPP-600-Hyd model fits 2014-up drives with the stock hydraulic clutch. Both of these are adaptable to BDL’s 1990 – Up belt drive kits that use the standard BPP-100A or BPP-100-HYD pressure plates. Upgraded plates require the use of a new diaphragm spring and (2) additional ESB-750 shoulder bolts. If you don’t think you need the entire kit BDL offers the plates, spring and collar individually. For complete details visit one of the knowledgeable BDL dealers worldwide or check them out on line at beltdrives.com.
