Countdown To 2014 Indian Chief Launch

We published this post earlier this year, but here is again as a refresher, for those of you who may have been stuck under a beer vending machine after trying to tip it over have missed all the hub-hub. Yes, Indian is staging a huge return to building original American machines and is ready to present the new 2014 to the world during the Sturgis Rally in a few days time.

I will be there for Bikernet and will file a report as soon as it's possible. Stay tuned, and the meantime, here's a look at the mighty engine that's powering the new Indian Chiefs. Enjoy. —Ben Lamboeuf

Indian Motorcycle's all-new air-cooled pushrod V-twin engine is a whopping 111 cubic inches. If its looks harken back to Indian's famed past, make not mistake, it's a modern-day powerhouse. Stay tuned for an in-depth report about this new engine on Bikernet. Don't miss the video at the end of the post.

There are three camshafts on this traditional pushrod-style engine, The center cam actuates both intake valves while the outer cams manage exhaust for the front and rear cylinders.

This year, Bikernet will be following Indian Motorcycle to bring you up-to-the-minute news. Indian has decided to reveal the engine first, and this is clearly a big deal by itself… We look forward to showing you what's coming next.

We think that the folks at Indian have 'nailed' the blend of old and new with this impressive motor. It's as if production never stopped and you're looking at a natural evolution of a 1940s Indian V-twin.
