From his beginnings in Jackson, Tennessee, 80 miles from Beale Street, the birthplace of rock ‘n’ roll, Brown began making his mark on the world at an early age. Brown left high school at 16 to pursue his dream of tattoo artistry. As an apprentice at Precision Ink, a newly opened tattoo studio in his hometown, Brown was close friends with the shop owner and was invited to his first tattoo convention in New Orleans.
After seeing expert artists from across the country at this convention, Brown knew exactly what he wanted to do the rest of his life. He wanted to become a tattoo artist.
After nineteen years of experience and accumulating 40 awards, “Downtown” Matt Brown works for his mentor, Gill Montie “The Drill,” at one of the most famous tattoo shops on earth, Tattoo Mania. He specializes in black and gray, horror and custom art and has been featured in many tattoo magazines.
“Downtown” Matt Brown will be at Sickies Garage’s tattoo studio next to the Sturgis Saloon Company in Sturgis, SD. For more information, go to www.sturgissalooncompany.com
