Arlen Ness, Deacon and Billy Lane at Chopper Only Show in Hawaii–for the Horse.
We’re in the middle of labor day, and I’ve tied myself down to deadlines for a couple of magazines, HORSE and Hard Core Choppers. The Beach Ride Bike, lifting weights and waiting for sex is eating at additional valuable moments. I’m burnin’ daylight. It’s been kaos central around here, and maybe there a mysterious centrifuge floating around Mars. Kids have been acting crazy.
I’ve got to run at the Post quick, we’re throwing a barbecue this afternoon. A wild assortment of characters will be on hand. A new bottle of Jack is perched in the cupboard beside the Quervo Gold for margaritas. What will it be? Let’s get to the news, then I’ll mention the missing sexual aspect before I hide under a rock:

SONS OF LIBERTY RIDERS E-NEWS
Update on Janklow accident: Just thought those on this list might be interested in this. Highway Patrol Superintendent Dan Mosteller says troopers didn’t do anything different in their investigation of a fatal traffic accident near Trent that involved Congressman Bill Janklow.
Mosteller says the patrol investigates accidents as carefully as it can to be fair to everyone involved. But he acknowledges there’s been more interest by the media and public in this case.
The following statement was issued by the family of Randy Scott, the Minnesota man killed in a car-motorcycle collision with Representative Bill Janklow:
The family and relatives of Randy Scott would like to say “Thank You” to Pastor Mumme and all our friends and neighbors for the tremendous support that has been shown to us during the past few days.
It was a terrible tragedy that took Randy’s life, and he will be missed by many. The thoughts and prayers of our family are with everyone involved in this tragedy. On ! Wednesday we laid Randy to rest. We now hold on to the wonderful memories we have of him.
Family members have visited in person with authorities from the State of South Dakota, and at this time we believe the investigation is proceeding in a professional and orderly manner.
We also want to thank those members of the media that have not interfered with the family during this very difficult time.
Randy Scott touched the lives of many people, and his uplifting spirit will live on through all of them.”
Three times in 1993, the former governor was involved in accidents after which he told officers he had seen another vehicle and was trying to avoid hitting it when a collision occurred, accident reports show.
? On Nov. 24, 1993, Janklow’s vehicle collided with a Sioux Falls city bus driven by Betty Stoner. He told law enforcement officers he had pulled forward “to avoid being struck by a phantom vehicle that was coming in his direction and appeared to be out of control,” according to the report. The report went on to say the “unidentified phantom vehicle” then continued south on the wrong side of the street, failing to stop.
? On Dec. 27, 1993, the former governor was involved in an accident in the 1000 block of Minnesota Avenue. His vehicle collided with one driven by Clark Fairchild. Janklow said he was trying to avoid being struck by a blue Bronco that had entered the turning lane and appeared ready to hit his car. Fairchild told police he didn’t see a blue Bronco.
? On Jan. 23, 1993, on County Road 146 near Sioux Falls, Janklow ! said he drove his 1992 Chevrolet into the left driving lane to avoid hitting a small animal. He collided with a vehicle driven by James Vander Karr, who was taken to the hospital for treatment of cuts on his head.
? In 1992, in Sioux Falls, Janklow was involved in an accident where his car collided with one driven by Amy Howell. He told officers that Howell failed to use her turn signal, but other witnesses at the scene disagreed with that.
Janklow was cited for following too close.
JANKLOW NEWS FLASH–FLANDREAU, South Dakota (AP) — U.S. Rep. Bill Janklow was charged Friday with second-degree manslaughter in the death of a motorcyclist earlier this month.
Janklow was driving an estimated 70 to 75 mph when his Cadillac went through a stop sign at a rural intersection, according to a Highway Patrol accident report.
The motorcycle hit the side of the congressman’s car, and the rider, Randolph E. Scott, 55, of Hardwick, Minnesota, was killed.
Moody County State’s Attorney Bill Ellingson said the facts of the case establish probable cause for second-degree manslaughter. He also filed three misdemeanor charges: failure to stop at a stop sign, speeding and reckless driving.
If convicted of second-degree manslaughter, Janklow could face up to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
A reckless driving conviction carries a maximum sentence of a year in jail and a $1,000 fine, and the other two charges could bring up to 30 days in jail and $200 fines.
Janklow, who is recovering from injuries he sustained in the crash, was not immediately available for comment Friday.
The Republican is one of South Dakota’s most powerful politicians. He was elected to the state’s only U.S. House seat last year and previously served 16 years as governor and four years as state attorney general.

A More In-Your-Face take on this EPA shit
Sen. Campbell and others who think of the EPA legislation concerning motorcycles as an issue of clean air, really need to wake up.
My name is Stan Alt and I went to Washington DC to talk with the EPA, some Senators, Congressmen and others. I did this at the request of the MRF because I am the founder of the ISA ( Independent Shop Association) which consists of 48 independent motorcycle shops in Wisconsin. Plus, I had owned and operated an independent motorcycle shop myself for a number of years.
To keep it short and simple — I told them the same thing I’m telling you… If you change the emissions on cars and trucks by 1/100th of a percent, the reduction of fuel emissions generated would be greater than eliminating all the motorcycles.
So what’s really up, and why does Harley-Davidson put out a report encouraging this change in emission standards? Maybe it’s a lot simpler than you think. Money!
The results of this EPA move would:
1.) Make it, if not impossible then nearly impossible for the small independent builder to build motorcycles.
2.) It would severely limit engine modifications, there-by affecting aftermarket parts suppliers like CCI, Drag Specialties and so on.
3.) Restrict service on motorcycles to those few shops that can afford the equipment needed to maintain the emission standards, primarily franchise dealers.
4.) It would prevent personal modifications by the owner, even something as simple as changing cams and exhaust systems.
Now, why would H-D be all for this? My opinion is that it gets rid of the expense that comes from competition. If you look back, there were only a few models available to the motorcycle purchaser, then with the sixties came the chopper and the creative individualities of there owners. What resulted was a boom in aftermarket parts suppliers and service which H-D was forced to compete with. You remember the Eagle Iron parts that started showing up on the franchisers shelves, don’t you?
If the law goes into effect there would be no need to provide modification or upgrade kits that are now available from the franchise dealer. Why? Because the law would prohibit it. As the customized motorcycle disappears so does the expense to produce a product year after year to compete with it. The manufacturer could also decrease the number of models knowing that the buyer, if he/she desires to ride, will have to buy one of their models, as no one can affordably build something different for them.
Now back to Sen. Campbell and others who think they are doing a great service by proposing a delay as the answer. My hope is that they will fight to oppose the legislation. If cleaner air is what is needed why not go after the vehicles, cars and trucks, that create 99.99% of it. Fazing in an era of pollution laws like the ones proposed will result only in the fazing out of creativity, individuality and a whole lifestyle and industry that I really like.
As a side note: I imagine it won’t take long for law enforcement to get the exhaust emissions machines for each squad car that would cause the removal from operation on streets and highways of any 2006 and newer motorcycle who’s exhaust noise is louder then the clacking of the cams in it’s engine.
Thanks for the time you took to read this.

Sept. 5-7 Ride To Freedom, Harrisburg, PA
For those thinking about riding to Harrisburg, PA Friday, September 5th to be with ABATE of PA on Saturday, September 6th at 1:00 to help and ‘be there’ for the historic ceremonial signing of their ‘adult choice’ bill at PA’s State Capital, here’s some updates:
1.) The ride is GROWING. Lots of interest coming in. MMA’s website (www.mma-of-ma.com) is updated with our route (thanks Vince and Andy). Major staging location Charlton Rest area on Mass Pike (I-90), departing there at 9:00 a.m. FRIDAY, September 5th. Several people are planning on working the prior Monday, Labor Day weekend to take that Friday off to ride with us. We’ll be coming from Massachusetts, through CT, NY into PA. Since we don’t have a ‘choice’ (yet) in NY, no ‘stops in NY’ – but we’ll stop at Exit 1 on I-84 to put our helmets on for 72.5 miles until we stop at about 12:30 at Exit 11 in PA. NY riders, feel free to join in anywhere along this Route or stops.
2.) Two camping cabins left at the Jonestown KOA. Some campsites left. Need to ‘advance reserve’ sites BY AUGUST 20th. Then we have to cancel unbaked reserved sites to get our $$ back. Contact me with your intentions. Don’t need check in hand, your commitment is good enough.
Again, four people can stay at each site two nights for less than $25 per person. Bring your own tents, sleeping bags, shower shoes, etc. Local county ABATE of PA chapter plans to ‘welcome’ and meet with us Friday night, then lead us to Harrisburg Saturday, leaving at 11:00 for the ‘good seats’ in Harrisburg. Maybe a Party at the Campgrounds Saturday night, in support of BIKE PAC, . . . PA’s political action committee for rider’s issues.
3.) Bill L. from CMA advises me hotels in the area are filling up. Besides our event, some football game going on. He’s booked a room at the Econo Lodge a few miles from the campsite in Altoona, PA, but says only two rooms left there. He searched Orbit.com for Altoona, PA, several hotels in the area.
4.) We are going, rain or shine. A few riders who can’t ride will join us in their cars/trucks to be there. That is kool. Likewise, a few other riding couples are sharing, bike and car/truck, to make the trip. May be extra storage room in their vehicles.
5.) This is a MAJOR event for riders in the Northeast. Through ABATE of PA and BIKE PAC, they WON. Massachusetts, Vermont, NY, NJ, MD, VA and WVA, who’s gonna be next? Let’s learn from them and ABATE of FL, and get ‘it done’ in our States too! But September 5-7 is the TIME to BE in PA.
6.) Again, check out www.mma-of-ma.com for more info.
7.) Or, More details about the Gettysburg Ride http://www.abatepa.org/abate/legislation/press/lobby- readshaw.htm

A Cowboy Story
A modern day cowboy spent many days crossing the desert without water. His horse died of thirst.
He crawled through the sand, certain that he breathed his last, when all of a sudden, he saw an object sticking out of the sand several yards ahead of him.
He crawled to the object, pulled it out of the sand, and discovered what looked to be an old brief case.
He opened it and out popped a genie. But no ordinary genie.
She was wearing an Internal Revenue Service ID badge and a dull gray dress. There was a calculator in her pocketbook. She had a pencil tucked behind one ear.
“Well, cowboy,” says the genie… “You know how I work. You have three wishes.”
“I’m not falling for this,” says the man. “I’m not going to trust an IRS auditor genie.”
“What do you have to lose? You’ve got no transportation, and it looks like you’re a goner anyway!”
The man thinks about this for a minute, and decides that the genie is right.
“OK, I wish I were in a lush oasis with plenty of food and drink.”
***POOF***
The cowboy finds himself in the most beautiful oasis he has ever seen. And he is surrounded with jugs of wine and platters of delicacies.
“OK, cowpoke, what’s your second wish.”
“My second wish is that I were rich beyond my wildest dreams.”
***POOF***
The man finds himself surrounded by treasure chests filled with rare gold, coins and precious gems.
“OK, cowpuncher, you have just one more wish. Better make it a good one!”
After thinking for a few minutes, the man says.. “I wish that no matter where I go, beautiful women will want and need me.”
***POOF***
He is turned into a tampon.

HARLEY 100th MILWAUKEE– Wednesday August 27th 2003
Things are really starting to happen here in Milwaukee. More and More motorcycles arriving daily and there is so much to do many times you have to choose between two or more that you wanted to see just because they are happening in different parts of town at the same time.
I got a Harley 100th Anniversary Celebration Event Map from Cindy Erato and was off to have some fun with Berry Wardlaw and Jon of Acccurate Engineering, Dothan Alabama.
We went out to Harley Owners Group party at Washington County Fair Park on route 45. It was a nice ride and though there were a lot of bikes it was very manageable and no delays. As we exited the highway all you could see were fields Full of Harley Davidson?s. It was a sight to behold.
The party at this location was for HOG members only. Getting in the event area was a quick showing of your card. There was entertainment through out the day on the pavilion stage and was also shown on big viewing screens around the park.

On premise was H-D Stores, HOG & Company, Vendor Mall, Cyber Caf?. The beer was only $3.00, Water $1.50 and the food was good and also fairly priced.
Now I want to know if Harley can do this why can?t the other events around the country.
There were 2 drill teams which included Indianapolis Police, and the Seattle Cossacks. If you have never seen them in action you should.
The big hit though was the concert Jeff Beck rocked the joint and he was followed by B.B.King. It was fabulous!
When the event was over we were able to leave quickly and on the way back to where we are staying it was wall to wall motorcycles, all moving right along at a good pace but orderly.
Well time to close this as another party awaits.
This Is Going To Be The Party Of The Century. Boy am I Glad I Can Be Part Of It.

LIGHTWEIGHT BIKE LIFT STANDS UP FOR STORAGE
If your excuse for not owning a professional MOTORCYCLE LIFT is excessive size, high price, or lack of space in your garage, your excuse is no longer valid. Kendon, the STAND UP motorcycle trailer company now offers a lightweight bike lift that out performs most of the heavy, clumsy lifts currently available. Kendon’s ALL NEW bike lift has the same stability factor as the big heavy lifts, yet is portable, and easy to transport. It also “stands up” and stows in the corner of your garage for space saving efficiency.
Features include: Manual or optional air operation, 1,000 pound weight capacity, easy roll casters, integrated wheel chock locks onto front wheel when bike is loaded, with wheel jack to lift front or rear wheel for wheel/tire access, and a full 32 inches of working lift height. Optional tool trays, and other features make this a bargain at any price.
This FULL FEATURE lift is extremely compact when folded and stores in vertical (“stand up”) position (76-inch standing height with a 24 X 24-inch foot print) for convenience.

Mo’ On Milwaukee For The 100th Happening Now
Twelve-hour days are the norm for Washington County sheriff’s deputies these days as thousands of Harley-Davidson aficionados roll into county fairgrounds for the Club H.O.G. event and hundreds more camp out in Slinger, officials said.
The cost of extra staffing will run into the tens of thousands of dollars in overtime, Sheriff Brian Rahn said. Part of that – for security and support services to the Harley Owners Group annual rally – will be billed to Harley-Davidson.
“But other costs will be absorbed by the department,” he said. “Things like increased road patrols throughout the county, that type of thing.”
Rahn said his deputies were put on notice early that days off would be unlikely during the four-day event that started Wednesday at Washington County Fair Park in the Town of Polk.
“We didn’t cancel any of the vacations that were scheduled, but people weren’t allowed to take time off during this week,” he said. “Days off were canceled, and everybody is working 12-hour days.”
Every available deputy has been called into service, including detectives who jumped out of plainclothes and into brown uniforms to direct traffic.
Lt. John Buck, the head of the department’s detective bureau, was on duty from 7:30 a.m. Wednesday until 9 p.m. – a much longer day then usual, he admits.

“It was a long day, but you have all these people waving, saying, ‘Thanks, have a nice day,’ and there were a bunch of riders who were just as tired as we were, but they were giving us a wave and making our day better,” he said.
Rahn spent several hours with flashlight in hand directing motorcycle traffic out of the fairgrounds.
“We were given an estimate of 30,870 people attending (Wednesday) night, but if you were standing there directing traffic, you’d have sworn the estimate was off by 100,000,” he said.
The H.O.G. event features entertainment, food and Harley accessories of all makes through Saturday. The event is open to only members of the Harley Owners Group.

Nancy Justman, the director of the Fair Park, said she had no idea how many people attended the event Wednesday. She also said that some of the costs would be billed back to Harley but said she would have to wait for a bill from the Sheriff’s Department.
Residents of the county who are also H.O.G. members will notice a different feel to the fairgrounds. Black carpeting runs the length of the Poultry Barn, and leather sofas and chairs, high-end coffee tables and computers dot areas usually reserved for livestock.
The Sheriff’s Department also has been hired to provide overnight security at the 700-biker encampment at the former Washington County fairgrounds in Slinger. The campground organizers are paying the department $2,000 for the overnight service.
Rahn said it would be hard to guess what the final cost to his department during the Harley anniversary will amount to.
“We’re running 20 people on the road instead of the usual six to seven,” he said. “While a number are tied up in traffic control, we still have tripled the amount of people we have out there.”
Safety is the first priority, he said, and that was the need for extra patrols.
“It’s not like we could look at this like the fair, where we know what we needed last year and we could make changes,” he said. “Everyone has done a great job of improvising, adjusting to the situations that have been presented.”
The H.O.G. event will end Saturday. Rahn encouraged motorists to avoid the Highway 45 and PV exit as well as Highway P between Highways 60 and NN. Traffic through those intersections is controlled to allow for easy access to and exit from the grounds, and all non-local traffic will be turned away, he said.

Badlands Comes To The Cantina
With the cooperation of Michael Lichter and Billy Tinney, we are publishing chapters of “Badlands” in Bandit’s Cantina. This book is devoted to the true founders of the club lifestyle. Each story will afford readers a glimpse into the history of various 1%er clubs all over the country. The first chapter is dedicated to Terry The Tramp, the long time president of the Vago. The man who helped build this club from it’s Southern California roots.

Okay, that’s it–It’s noon and the girls are already calling for Bloody Marys. It’s been a week of interruptions. I need a night alone with a particular brunette and her new girlfriend.
There’s nothing like the touch of a woman and it’s tough on a man to be surrounded by women all week and can’t snag some time alone for touch. I may need a margarita to calm my jangled nerves.
I should have ridden to Durango this weekend. I grab a modicum of relief from booze, but won’t let the bottle get the best of me. The adventure of the open road helps my jones for women, and there’s always that sense that somewhere down the highway tenderness awaits.
It’s time to fire up the barbecue.
