Countdown to Bonneville,
The Salt shaker is all together and ready to rock, but we’re having a timing problem I suspect. It’s kicking back hard. It’s too advanced and I spoke to Wink Eller, BDL Bonneville racer, this morning and he gave me some tips. He also told me the cool jam from the West Coast to Wendover, Nevada. Wink set two new World Records at Speed week and couple of weeks ago.

We’re building a pile of supplies from Amsoil oils to fire extinguishers and nuts and bolts. Between us and the Chop and Grind team, we’ll have a full shop and enough spare parts to build another bike. Rodan came to the headquarters on Friday and inspected the first Sportbike 120-inch Panhead. Biting my nails I watched the SCTA vice president study the John Reed V-Bike from stem to stern. Here’s my list:

Safety wire front axle fasteners.
Make a metal chain guard
Make a primary belt guard
Make another set of salt straight pipes
Make a rider kill switch
Make another dash for only the tack, because of our class.
I think that’s it. I’ll be busy right up until we leave. Let’s hit the news:

SOUTHSIDE RAFFLE ATTEMPT–First I want to say Thank You to ALL who made this possible! OUR SPONSORS! Thank you. So here it is all complete. Hopefully it will make a magazine; it has been a long, hard road. From South Side Kustoms shop burning down in late March to all the delays. But I pushed on and got it done.
As of right now we ONLY HAVE 300 TICKETS SOLD out of 2000. It would be nice to sell them all being the proceeds go to Make A Wish Foundation of WNY and Food Bank of WNY. So please forward this to your friends and family, hopefully we can make a magazine/media with this bike and our story.

Again Thank you to all who sponsored! See www.south-side-kustoms.com for a complete list of sponsors. Please watch for how much we raised and sponsors request for NEXT YEAR’s Charity Bike to Benefit Veterans and Fallen Fireman!

SAN JOSE TO PAY HELLS ANGELS $800,000– SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) – The city of San Jose agreed to pay nearly $800,000 to the Hells Angels motorcycle club to settle claims police needlessly killed three dogs during raids on club members’ homes.
Ninety officers participated in the raids on the club’s San Jose headquarters and nine members’ homes following a 1997 killing at a strip club.
Steve Tausan, a bouncer and Hells Angels member, was later acquitted of murder and none of the bikers whose homes were targeted was ever charged.
In a lawsuit, the club claimed the dogs were killed after police refused to give owners and caretakers a chance to secure the animals.
“We sincerely hope the city will engage in changes to its policy and training to make sure that this doesn’t happen again,” said Karen Snell, one of the club’s lawyers, after the settlement was announced Tuesday.
San Jose City Attorney Rick Doyle said the city was forced to settle because an appeals court ruled shooting the dogs violated constitutional protections against unreasonable search and seizure.
“Given the totality of the circumstances and the court’s decision, it’s a decision we can live with,” Doyle said.
Another jurisdiction, Santa Clara County, Calif., earlier paid about $990,000 to settle claims brought against the sheriff for the raids.

BUBBA AND JUNIOR INVESTIGATION– Bubba and Junior were standing at the base of a flagpole, looking up. A blond lady walked by and asked what they were doing. “We’re supposed to find the height of the flagpole,” said Bubba, “but we don’t have a ladder.”
The woman took a wrench from her purse, loosened a few bolts, and laid the pole down. Then she took a tape measure from her pocket, took a measurement & announced, “Eighteen feet, six inches,” and walked away.
Junior shook his head and laughed. “Ain’t that just like a dumb Blond? We ask for the height, and she gives us the length.”
Bubba and Junior are currently supervising the reconstruction of New Orleans.

Then, you wake up in an old age home feeling better every day. You get kicked out for being too healthy; go collect your pension, then when you start work, you get a gold watch on your first day. You work 40 years until you’re young enough to enjoy your retirement. You drink alcohol, you party, you’re generally promiscuous and you get ready for High School. You go to primary school, you become a kid, you play, you have no responsibilities, you become a baby, and then…You spend your last 9 months floating peacefully in luxury, in spa-like conditions; central heating, room service on tap, larger quarters every day, and then, you finish off as an orgasm. I rest my case. –from Ray Russell PEARCE, HAYWORTH TO ADDRESS BIKERS FOR SECURE BORDERS– (State Capitol, Phoenix) – Rep. Russell Pearce and Congressman J.D. Hayworth will be the keynote speakers at the Bikers for Secure Borders rally on Saturday, August 26, at 8 a.m. at the Childress Auto Mall in Phoenix. Gubernatorial candidate Don Goldwater will also speak at the rally. “This rally will be an event of tremendous significance,” said Rep. Russell Pearce (R-Mesa). “It will be an opportunity for Arizonans to send a clear message to the politicians at the State Capitol and in Washington that we need more border security right now. This issue has been ignored for far too long.” Hundreds of bikers and motorcycle enthusiasts from around the country will attend the rally, including the American Freedom Riders. The event is being emceed by KFYI talk show host Terry Gilberg. Pearce said the rally will be a counterbalance to the demonstrations held by illegal aliens and their supporters during the last several months. The Childress Auto Mall is at 2223 W. Camelback Road. ANNOUNCES NEW NAMES FOR ENGINES– LA CROSSE, WI (August 24, 2006) S&S Cycle announces new names for their well-known engine families. Effective immediately, S&S will be referring to their engines with the following prefixes: SH, V, T, X, and B. “We’re not changing our engines, just the names,” said Brian Conyers, Manager of Communications & Marketing for S&S Cycle. “We know there are several ‘street names’ that have been used, and will continue to be used in the market to identify engines of all types, but now we can officially refer to our engines with specific names that are simple and effective as we continue to provide premium engines and parts, from competition to the street, since 1958.” The SH-Series includes the award-winning shovel engine in its various configurations including generator, alternator, and generator/alternator options. Displacements are currently 80″, 93″, and 103″. The V-Series includes engines formerly known as Sidewinder?, Super Sidewinder, and Super Sidewinder Plus. The S&S V-Series engines are available as an after-market product, compatible as a replacement engine for Harley-Davidson? motorcycles using the Evolution? engine. These popular Proven Performance? engines are available with displacement options of 96″, 107″, 113″, and 124″. The T-Series includes engines utilizing dual cams; the S&S T124 is currently the required engine for the grass-roots S&S 124 Challenge Class in the AHDRA. These high-performance engines are compatible as a replacement engine for Harley-Davidson? motorcycles using the Twin Cam 88? engine. In addition to the T124 (124″ displacement) other models include racing engines in 120″, 133″, and 139″ displacement options. A T-Series version, designed to mount in 1984-1999 single cam models, is also available. The X-Series engines are available in 91″ and 100″ displacement options and are designed to be a performance replacement engine compatible with Harley-Davidson? Sportster? motorcycles. The B-Series engines are similar to the X-Series but designed as an after-market performance engine compatible with Buell? motorcycles. This is the engine that was used to set two new speed records by S&S employee, Jeff Bailey, on June 24th and 25th, 2006, at the ECTA event in North Carolina. S&S also continues the development and production of its racing engines and components, including the billet 160″ Prostock Motorcycle engine which is currently seeing great success in the NHRA. VON DUTCH BADLANDS TESTIMONIAL–I just got back from Sturgis Bike Week filming a special for VH1 Classic called “All Roads Lead to the Chip”. This was my third year doing the show and besides being an awsome opportunity to see and hear some great music at the Legendary Buffallo Chip Campground, it’s an incredible chance for me to spend the week out at Sturgis blasting around the Black Hills of South Dakota on my bike. And blast I did! I had taken delivery of my flat black on black, Von Dutch Cruel World, soft tail this past Spring, but Sturgis was my first real opportunity to air the fucker out. Now I know some of you are calling me a pussy for ordering my bike with a soft tail. Listen, I rode a Von Dutch Flying Dutchman bobber–rigid frame, Donny Smith girder front end with no front brake–all last year, so I earned my stripes…and my damn suspension! I’ve spent hours at a time on my Cruel World with no back fatique what so ever. And it handles like a champ! From Rapid City to Downtown Sturgis, from Deadwood to Mount Everest, I rode this badass machine for hours on end. Its state of the art mechanics ran like clockwork (113 Billeted Patrick Racing Engine, Six Speed Riviera Transmission, Brembo Front and Rear Disc Brakes) and it’s old school, Mondo Springer front end, chopper look (and thunderous sound!) commanded admiration and respect where ever I rode. I ain’t talkin’ about the “ooh, look at the pretty colors!” kind of attention. I’m talkin’ “Damn, look at that bad mutha fuckin’ ride!” And what a ride it is! Hope to see you on the road sometime on your Von Dutch Kustom Cycle. I know I’ll be on mine. Ride to Live, Live to Ride…a Von Dutch Kustom Cycle! Dee Snider 8/06 SONS OF LIBERTE RIDERS REP AWARDED– SoLR’s very own Spotman – for receiving the honorable “Warrior of the Year” award at TEA 2006. This award was presented to Spotman for his never ending and tireless dedication to bikers’ rights in this great nation. Keep up the great job, Spot – I hope we all learn from your most excellent example. SUNDAY CANTINA TECH REQUEST– In the most recent issue of the Horse I noticed a new ad for Biltwell Handlebars to be more specific the Frisco bars, which were particularly eye catching. My problem is that when I contacted the company and inquired about their product I was shocked by the price tag. Being told that the bars sold for 79 dollars has me somewhat concerned. The problem arises with the idea of getting what you pay for. Living with few extra pennies as I am, I do not wish to pay for anything that turns out to be an inferior product but on the other hand can not afford nor wish to pay for a name i.e. Arlen Ness etc. that would damage my checkbook and style of my ride. More or less was just interested if you had any reviews on their products personally or from fellow bikers. Hopefully, you find this a reasonable inquiry and have time to respond. –Mooseman BIKERNET BONNEVILLE SPONSOR PRODUCTS– I haven’t sent anything over in a while figured you were in Sturgis. We have some shots of the green bike done I need to know how many pics you want me to send over for the feature and if you want us to send a written piece or do you take care of that? On to the parts I’ll attach some foot pegs on this e-mail with description. Any feed back on the grips? Foot Pegs– Put your foot on sensational style for your bike with show polished CNC machined foot pegs from Rollin Sixes Choppers. Male mounted foot pegs feature extended length for more comfort. Like having four foot pegs in one, pegs feature interchangeable end caps. Choose from four designs: Maltese-Cross, Ace of Spades, Nautical Star and Dome Style. Custom shifter/Brake Pegs– Our highest standard of quality applies to even our smallest part. Our pegs are extended for more positive shifting, braking and comfort. Our pegs are 3.5 inches long. This is for one individual peg. –Later…Ellis Hey Tim, I like your stuff. The grips are longer than puny stock ones and everything worked. I like the shift peg and brake peg, because they’re also longer than stock for my big ass feet.–Bandit NO MARGARITAS, MARGARITA TIME–I would like nothing more than a double Quervo Gold Cadillac Margarita and and big titted blonde, but we’re scrambling for the flats. I have Mike Lichter and some biker artists over for the evening, I need to figure out that timing, and my list is looming over me. Wink made some terrific suggestions about places to stay along the way to Wendover and how to test my timing. I keep dialing Berry Wardlaw’s cell hoping for a quick Accurate fix, but can’t get through. He’s in Canada working on a new bike manufacturer deal. Hot stuff coming. Wink gave me some notions for testing the timing. I may just try them, clean the shop, throw shit in a pile and pray for the timing answer and the engine thundering to life, like an unleashed locomotive. I’ve got another Girl of Bikernet to post next week from Phoenix. I’ve started my Sturgis Report and will try like hell to launch it before we head north. Rock ‘n’ Roll. Ride Forever, –Bandit
