Pre-Bonneville Sunday,
I’m relaxed sorta. I rolled outta the sack at 5:00 a.m. and hauled the master, Berry Wardlaw, of Accurate Engineering, to LAX for his flight home to Alabama. We took the Assalt Weapan to Lifestyle Cycles for a half dozen Dyno passes. What a relief.
I’ll try to explain. We’ve been working around the clock and most nights to 2:00 to finish the bike. I’m stepping into unchartered waters with the nitrous and extensive wiring, but I was plodding along tackling one system after another. What a relief when Berry arrived. Where I’ve been building the entire bike, he’s focused on the Engine, tuning and nitrous for nine months. Every element of that engine has been designed and modified for running nitrous, from the .700 inch piston top thickness, ring lands moved down the piston sides, 2-pounds added to the flywheels, tuning retard system, you name it.

Berry arrived on Thursday and took over the wiring aspect. Friday we had it fired and Saturday we loaded for a LifeStyle Cycles dyno run. Let’s hit the news and I’ll finish my story:

THE BOB T. SALT FLATS WEATHER REPORT– August 25th 2007- Saturday. The current status of the International course is:
0 – 2.5 – Standing water
2.5 – 6.25 – Dry enough to use
6.25 – 6.75- damp patch
6.75 – 10 – Dry enough to use
10+ Unusable.
The salt crust here is too thin, and it is still wet. Even if it dries we may not be able to use this area as there is visible mud and the salt crust is to thin to walk on.
We are also looking at alternative courses now that the salt had dried more. ACCESS ROAD- there is no visible improvement at the access road.

Rodan came to the shop this morning and checked out our machine against the rule book. He’s a SCTA official and experienced Bonneville races and tech inspector. We’re cool, except for one item which I will fix. He mentioned that the salt ain’t bad at all, but they had to roll almost three miles into the briny surface to reach the course.–Bandit

THE CHRIS BLAIS REPORT– Chris Blais may not be a familiar name unless you follow the demanding world of off-road racing. In that environment, Chris’ phenomenal riding ability has placed him at the pinnacle of international competition. All that changed August 5, when he was seriously injured pre-running the Vegas to Reno desert race. –Siebenthaler Creative Services. http://www.siebenthalercreative.com/index.html>siebenthalercreative.com HELMETS DON’T SAVE LOUISIANA MOTORCYCLISTS– It looks like another person has been brainwashed or paid off. The need is Not For Mandatory Schooling But For Better Testing By The State Issuing The License. States that allow schools to issue certificates that can be turned in to state Motor Vehicle Departments for operators licenses are at fault for letting some operators on the road with out the proper skills. The agency issuing the license has the responsibility to make sure the operator is qualified and not take the word of a person or school who are being paid to get them a license. Hopefully the Motorcycle Rights Organizations and the States will take action to change this loophole in the coming legislative session. –ROGUE Despite passing a mandatory helmet law in 2004, motorcycle fatalities in Louisiana are on a record pace and on course for one of the worst totals in the country, Highway Safety Commission executive director James Champagne told attendees at a safety summit in Baton Rouge. The summit, produced by the Louisiana Motorcyclist Safety and Awareness Committee and the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission was convened to decrease the number of motorcycle fatalities and injuries in Louisiana. Achieving that goal is urgent. Champagne told summit attendees that more motorcycle fatalities are projected for this year in Louisiana than in any other year in the state’s history. If the trend continues, we will have not only the state’s worst year, but also one of the worst totals in the country. At the Louisiana summit, safety officials pinpointed reasons for the alarming increase in motorcycle fatalities. One is lack of professional training. Champagne says training should be required before a cycle owner or rider can apply for a license. Ultimately, according to Champagne, almost all the factors that contribute to the problem can be reduced by new legislation, enforcement of existing laws – and mandated education. –from Rogue KIWI SELECTED TO BE 1 OF 50, 50TH ANNIVERSARY S&S BUILDERS– Just want to say hi and to let you know that we have been selected to be 1 of 10 who are producing a bike with S&S x-wedge engine for their 50th. Did you make up a couple of different length reverse megaphone’s?? You can tune doin that. Also the Merge collector length and angle can be used to tune. It would be nice to have a couple of different setups to bring with you. The “Y” Merge collector is a very critical part along with the Megaphone design. –Pablo The pipes start at 1 3/4 for an inch then 1 7/8 for 14 inches, then 2-inch before the collector. Both 35 inches. The collector must be 2 1/8 with an open megaphone. The collector is very smooth.–Bandit S&S P-SERIES ENGINES ARE HERE– Building on the worldwide success of the S&S SH-Series engines, S&S looked a little further into the history of the v-twin engine. What better project for the S&S Product Development team than to build an engine that was in production when George and Marge Smith started S&S? The new P-Series engine reinforces the commitment S&S has made to protecting the legacy of the v-twin past. The S&S P-Series engines are not reproductions of the old, rather, they are built to be ridden many miles and deliver all the power you could want. These new P-Series engines are available in three designs, 1954-’64 (also for 1948-’53 with a tin primary), 1965-’69 applications and, of course, and an alternator/generator version that fits 1970-’99 frame styles. P-Series engine are ready to run in 93ci, 93ci high-compression and 103ci high-compression models. SUNDAY CANTINA ART EXHIBIT–What could be more American than Harleys and apple pie? Hence the title of Scott Jacobs’ current limited edition release “As American as?” On occasion an artist will take the opportunity to pay homage to a mentor or idol and what you are witnessing here is exactly that. Ralph Goings is an internationally acclaimed artist who was instrumental in bringing “Photo-Realism” into the forefront as a major art style beginning back in the early sixties. Goings is someone Scott has always looked up to and he has been a monumental source of inspiration for Jacobs’ work. I have shown you (below) one of Goings’ paintings (DONUTS) along with Scott’s latest so you can see first hand the similarities and nuances of both their techniques. Scott is proud of what he has achieved in his career and would like to share with you his very special “homage to Ralph Goings” titled AS AMERICAN AS Scroll down and enjoy these two magnificent paintings. Here’s what we found out: I was told the difference between the 2006 & 2007 twin cam heads and the earlier twin cam heads is that they are ported and can be bolted right on the earlier model bikes and have it run better with the later heads. Have you heard anthing to this affect. I`m putting one together and thought if this is true I`ll throw a set of the ’07 heads on it. I did find out that the 06/07 heads are made out of a different alloy (to run cooler ) and makes them marder to port, but H-D cast them with larger ports. I guess putting 06/07 heads on earlier TWINCAM you can experience intake sealing issues. –Dennis Intake floors are higher. Exhaust ports bigger. They use a diff. intake mtg. flange. I like the early heads for porting. You can “D” port the early exhaust ports. Raised intake floor creates more velocity, but short side radius needs to be work on. –Pablo Continued On Page 2
