STURGIS WRAP UP SUNDAY POST – BATTISTINI PARTS, PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES, HARLEY PARTS, BONNEVILLE UPDATES, WOMEN AND MORE…

lead

Many Apologies,

I’m behind and scrambling for Bonneville. I’m behind on Bikernet content. I usually try to post a feature daily. Then I hit it to the shop to work on the bike. It’s coming together rapidly, but never fast enough. The engine should be here Monday, along with the D&D pipe kit. But I jumped off track.

Petergirl

Friday I was going to post a Trollworks bike feature, the Grudge bike. I interviewed the Trolls but was yanked away from the job on a part-hunting mission. The next morning I wrote the stellar feature about Dorothy, the Troll mom, then discovered I was missing the CD of shots. I reached out to Peter Linney, the magnificent photographer. “I thought I sent that CD,” Peter said and hung up on me. Five minutes later I received the above shot and a promise that the images would be in my hands on Tuesday.

Then I discovered a Granduer clutch tech tip from Ken Conte and asked Sin Wu if she could code the images. “Sure baby,” she said.

Last night I asked again and she said, “I fucked off. I’ll get to them first thing in the morning.”

It’s noon and I asked once more. She looked sorta exasperated this time and said, “Right away!” We’ll see. Time will tell and shit will smell. Let’s hit the news and I’ll report in. No matter what, another feature aside from the Sunday Post will be posted today. I gotta catch up.

TWO WHEELERS STURGIS WRAP UP– As the week winds down the effects of sensory overload are expressed on the faces that blanket the street. Rock and Roll music, freshly tatoo skin, ridin in the Black Hills, scantly clad ladies and more liquid refreshments than are humanly possible in a week of fun.

There may have been reports of fewer bikers this year but all who did make the ride to the Hills were happy they did.

The town has now returned back to where we started. The cowboy and his horse workin the ranch and the biker and his iron pony ridin’ the open highway lookin’ for the next adventure.

Local rancher Gene with his grandson Austin, and biker Gary are pictured on Main Street in Sturgis . Austin is hoping this makes the front page because he isn’t old enough to join the Cantina YET!

BIKERNET NEWS CRAMMED INTO ONE PAGE THIS WEEK– I just wanna say thanx for giving us po folk the whole news this week. I used to be able to afford it but with gas prices and a rack of other shit dragging a brother down held me back. It is always nice when you get the unexpected. It is very much appreciated. I never complain about shit I can’t afford or am not able to do, I just go with the flow.

One day soon I’ll be able to afford to get into the cantina, because it is damn worth it. I also understand the cash and other resources, including the time it takes to deliver the product y’all deliver. It is the absolute best! I was able to purchase a Bikernet.com t-shirt when I was in Gettysburg this year. I had to customize the shirt though, I cut the sleeves off.

Well sir, I am getting a lil’ long winded in what was supposed to be just a note of thanx. Good luck on the salt and pray for the miners out there. We are big on mining here in West Virginia.

I remain the Original Gangster.

TEXAS BIKER BAND ROCKS MUSIC WORLD WITH TRIBUTE TO ELVIS– (Houston, Texas) Commemorating the 30th Anniversary of Elvis’ death, Texas’ #1 Biker Rally Band, Mean Gene Kelton & The Die Hards have recorded a new Jambone Records CD,”Going Back To Memphis: A Biker Band Tribute To Elvis” at the legendary Sun Studio in Memphis, Tennessee.

Since the early nineties, Mean Gene Kelton & The Die Hards’ high-energy Texas Blues and southern-fried rock ‘n roll have made them one of the top biker bands, performing at major rallies, dealerships and swap meets across the country along with David Allan Coe, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Marshall Tucker Band, Ten Years After, Canned Heat, Bad Company, Mark Farner (Grand Funk) and others. They have earned many awards and garnered seven # 1 songs on Bluesrock charts.

In 2003, the band was recruited to perform at the former Elvis Presley’s Club on Beale Street in Memphis, Tennessee. After seeing the audience’s overwhelming response to Kelton’s own interpretations of Elvis songs, Graceland insisted that Kelton perform 90% Elvis songs in his nightly show. The tourists loved the versions, and the reps from Elvis Presley Fan Clubs gave the band “two thumbs up!” With 2007 commemorating the 30th anniversary of Elvis’ death, and Graceland Harley-Davidson unveiling the official “Elvis Harley” during Elvis week in Memphis, it is only natural that Mean Gene Kelton & The Die Hards be the ultimate band to record the ultimate Biker Band Tribute to Elvis. “Recording at Sun Studio in Memphis was a dream come true! We were treated like movie stars. We stood in the same spot where Elvis, Carl Perkins, Roy Orbison, Jerry Lee Lewis and Johnny Cash once stood.”

“We set up our gear and performed all thirteen songs, live and raw, just like we’d play them at a bike rally,” says Kelton. “I refused to use click tracks or scratch vocal tracks. We did very minimal over-dubbing. I wanted to capture the band’s live, raw, unpolished feel and unbridled enthusiasm for this project. It kicked a**!”

Kelton is donating a special royalty from the sale of each CD to two separate charities, one being B.A.C.A.,(Bikers Against Child Abuse). “I truly believe in their cause,” says Kelton. “Little children shouldn’t have to live in fear and they need someone who will look out for them the way BACA does.”

“We are also donating a royalty to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Memphis. When I told my Mother we were donating a royalty to St. Jude’s,” says Kelton, “her voice cracked as she reminded me that we lived in Memphis when I was eight years old and almost died of pneumonia. St. Jude’s saved my life and did not charge her a dime! I am very proud to have reached a point in my life and career where I can give back something to these great organizations so they can help other families the way we were helped.”

“Going Back To Memphis” showcases Kelton’s own, unique houserockin’ Texas blues and southern rock interpretations of songs previously recorded by Elvis, including Jailhouse Rock, Polk Salad Annie, Hound Dog, Heartbreak Hotel, Steamroller and others. The title track, “Going back To Memphis” is a Kelton original about the second coming of Elvis that hit #1 on internet Rockabilly Charts.

HEAR FREE MUSIC SAMPLES AT http://www.genekelton.com “Elvis’ music is all about having fun”, says Kelton. “We want people to forget about their troubles, crank up the volume, jump up and dance and just have fun listening to the CD.”

CD RELEASE PARTY IN MEMPHIS There will be a lot of fun to be had at the wild and crazy CD release party planned for Friday, August 17th, 2007, at Coyote Ugly on Beale Street in Memphis, Tennessee. Other CD release parties are planned for Biker friendly locations in Texas and across the country shortly thereafter.

ELECTRICS BLUES– From Got a ’71 Sportster Basket I picked up for my kid. It has an old AMERICAN REGULATOR ( name on side). It’s the round one that mounts to the end of the generator, has a red, green, black wire. Wondering where wires go and how to polerize it.

–HEFTY
Hefty60@aol.com

Okay, the old round regulator is probably the same one made now by Cycle Electric Inc. Drag Specialties P/N DS-325483. Not 100% sure but a good bet.

Stock wiring on the Sportster Generator is: “F” Green (GN), “A” Tan (TN). Stock Regulator wiring is: “F” Green (GN), “GEN” Tan (TN), “BAT” Orange (O)

Flashing the field coils (Correct Polarity) on the Stock Reg. is done by-momentarily touching a jumper wire between “Bat” terminal and “Gen” terminal on Regulator after all wires are properly connected, and before starting engine. This is for stock H-D Generator and stock H-D Regulator !!!

On this non OEM regulator you need to get hold of the manuf., Cycle Electric Inc. for the wiring to be sure. Cuz, I don’t know for sure!!

Hope this helps and doesn’t cornfuse.

HARDBIKES MIGHT SURVIVE YET– Hermitage, PA, July 27, 2007 –(PR.com)– Knievel Custom Cycles, LLC and Hardbikes, LLC announced today that a strategic alliance has been entered into between the two companies. Under this agreement Hardbikes will become the exclusive motorcycle manufacturer for the Knievel Cycles brand.

Knievel Custom Cycles, which started operations in 2005 currently produces one-off customs at a facility in Northern New Jersey. Knievel Custom Cycles was originally created by Kaptain Robbie Knievel and a few close friends. Robbie, a motorcycle daredevil who started performing at age 8 presently holds 20 world records and is awaiting induction into the Motorcycle Hall of Fame on August 7, 2007 in Sturgis S.D. In early 2007, Knievel Cycles welcomed the participation of Robbie’s father Evel Knievel who is the original motorcycle daredevil.

Evel Knievel has been a household name since the late 1960s and his feats were so famous that four of the 20 most-watched Wide-World of Sports events are his performances with one being the largest draw ever. As a pioneer in the dare devil industry, Evel was enshrined in the Smithsonian Institute in Washington DC.

Hardbikes with its team of motorcycle and manufacturing veterans will build every custom motorcycle to a customer’s specification. “The intent of Knievel Cycles is to produce the best American Made custom motorcycle for the money. Top quality parts and accessories with consistent reliability”-Evel Knievel. AMES STRAW POLL PRESIDENTIAL RACE COVERED BY BIKERNET CORRESPONDENT–I am in Ames and attended the straw poll. It was awesome! It was apparent that the winners spent Big Money to get the votes they got. I hope that this is not how the decision is made on who is going to be the next President of the United States. If motorcycle people will get involved that does not have to be the case.

I personally think Tommy Thompson did well even though he was not in the top 3 Money was a big factor And I personally am not happy with ABATE of Iowa. They were not noticeable and were reported attending some charitable event in the area. DUH!

I have always been under the impression that ABATE was a Motorcycle Rights Organization. Even if ABATE chose to support another candidate, which I do not have a problem with, their presence would have let everyone know motorcyclist were a strong influence in government.

The motorcycles riding in to the straw poll led by Tommy Thompson was very impressive and did get a lot of attention, though it could have been more.

Tommy Thompson had said prior to the Straw Poll that if he did not do as well as he expected that he would drop out. I hope that does not happen and that people contact him and ask him to consider staying in the race and offer whatever assistance they can.

I have always asked people to register to vote and when they did to wear something that showed they ride; this also applies when voting or campaigning for a candidate.

I and others will continue to work for Motorcycle Rights and we could get more done if we have people in office that understand our situation.

It is time for Those Who Ride and Want To Decide to Do So by Getting Involved. I mean doing more than joining a organization and complaining about laws at the local bar.

ASSALT WEAPAN SPELLING CONTROVERSY– I like Assalt Weapan the best, but that’s just me. Wish I could do Sturgis just once. Maybe in another lifetime…….Hope you get a charge out of this, My grandson (who is six) loves your Shrunken FXR. He had me print it out on the magic printer (no wires) and frame it and then put it in his bedroom. That’s what he wants when he gets old enough to ride his own.

He loves to ride and stop at Hooters for lunch. It’s always his idea, but I don’t put up much of a fight (heh heh).

Good luck with the assembly of the Assalt Weapan. Here’s prayin’ all the parts get there and you get it buttoned up in time.

HAMSTERS USA DONATE $100,000– SPEARFISH — The international motorcycle group Hamsters USA raised $100,000 for Children’s Care in Rapid City with a silent and live auction and other activities at their annual meeting and dinner this week.

Hamsters spokesman Grady Pfeiffer says the group is known for their big hearts when it comes to children. “Hamsters have always stepped up to the plate for kids needing a hand,” he said. “This is a great cause, and every dollar we raised goes directly to the kids.”

Funds raised will provide physical, occupational, and speech therapies, plus special educational and psychological services to children in Western South Dakota and parts of Wyoming and Nebraska through Children’s Care of Rapid City.

Three Stooges

NINE THINGS I HATE ABOUT EVERYONE– 1. People who point at their wrist while asking for the time…. I know where my watch is pal, where the hell is yours? Do I point at my crotch when I ask where the toilet is?

2. People who are willing to get off their ass to search the entire room for the T.V. remote because they refuse to walk to the T.V. and change the channel manually.

3. When people say “Oh you just want to have your cake and eat it too”. Damn right! What good is cake if you can’t eat it?

4. When people say “it’s always the last place you look.” Of course it is. Why the hell would you keep looking after you’ve found it? Do people do this? Who and where are they? Gonna Kick their asses!

5. When people say while watching a film “did you see that?” No Fuck head, I paid $12 to come to the cinema and stare at the damn floor.

6. People who ask “Can I ask you a question?” …. Didn’t really give me a choice there, did ya sunshine?

7. When something is ‘new and improved!’ Which is it? If it’s new, then there has never been anything before it. If it’s an improvement, then there must have been something before it, couldn’t be new.

8. When people say “life is short.” What the hell?? Life is the longest damn thing anyone ever does!! What can you do that’s longer?

9. When you are waiting for the bus and someone asks “Has the bus come yet?” If the bus came would I be standing here, dumbass?

BIKERNET SUNDAY NOTION FOR THE DAY– Someone who teaches at a middle school in Safety Harbor, Florida, forwarded the following letter. The letter was sent to the principal’s office after the school had sponsored a luncheon for the elderly? An old lady received a new radio at the lunch as a door prize and was writing to say thank you. This story is a credit to all humankind.

Dear Safety Harbor Middle School :

God bless you for the beautiful radio I won at your recent senior citizens luncheon. I am 84 years old and l live at the Safety Harbor Assisted Home for the Aged. All of my family has passed away. I am all alone and I want to thank you for your kindness to an old forgotten lady. My roommate is 95 and has always had her own radio, but before I received one, she would never let me listen to hers, even when she was napping.

The other day her radio fell off the night stand and broke into a lot of pieces. It was awful and she was in tears. She asked if she could listen to mine, and I told her to kiss my ass.

Thank you for that opportunity.

Sincerely,

Edna

BIKERNET COVERS BRIDGE COLLAPSE– As investigators and engineers examine the I-35 bridge in Minnesota for clues about what caused it to collapse, officials in Washington have a moral obligation to conduct a similar review. We can honor the victims by asking: Are there structural flaws in our political system that allow tragedies like this to occur?

Unfortunately, this discussion has, so far, produced little more than partisan recriminations and knee-jerk demands for increased spending and gas taxes. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) was right to call the bridge collapse a “wake-up call” but it was intellectually dishonest for him to add that since 9/11 we’ve taken our eye off the ball.

Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) also brought more heat than light to the debate by slamming President Bush’s threat to veto infrastructure bills that bust the budget. “The lack of investment in infrastructure is frightening,” Murray fumed, “This is what [Bush] is threatening to veto — investment in infrastructure for [roads] we go to work on every day.” No area better illustrates Congress? misplaced priorities than pork-barrel spending. The Federal Highway Administration declared the bridge “structurally deficient” in 1990 and directly warned Minnesota officials.

We won?t know what caused the bridge in Minnesota to collapse for perhaps several weeks but the American people already know enough about the structural flaws in our political system to make changes. For instance, we know that substandard road conditions take the lives of more than 13,000 Americans every year, according to the American Society of Civil Engineers.

What this means is that every year we lose four times as many Americans on our roads as we did on September 11. Every dollar that funds a low-priority bike path or transportation museum is a dollar that isn’t available for an urgent repair that might save someone’s son or daughter, or husband or wife. While no single public official or political party can be held responsible for such tragedies, everyone who tolerates business as usual shares responsibility.

I served in the House of Representatives from 1995 to 2001 and wish I would have taken more dramatic steps to raise this issue.

BATTISTINIS FRONT FENDER MOUNTS FOR FLT– Style comes full circle in the simplicity of this new design. Battistinis Custom Cycles has tackled the problem of using the OEM FLT front fender in conjunction with the popular 21″ x 3.5″ wheel conversion. Ingenious, yet simple, these fender brackets install by first removing the OEM fender mount and rivets. Using the 5 rivet holes on each side, they bolt directly to your fender with fasteners included with the kit. The result is the use of your OEM front fender which has been raised and moved back to sit perfectly over the large 21″ front wheel. Separate kits are available for 23″ front wheel conversions also. Available in chrome finish, or the unique black anodizing which is applied before final machining to offer a bold, two-tone look. Style and innovation. From Battistinis, of course.

THE PEVEY QUARTERLY COMMENTARY– Caught up on some reading at Bikernet – it looks like you really have the build on the run now. Too bad you’re going through a lot of last minute rushing around that I had hoped to help you avoid so many months ago, but to say things have not gone according to plan for either of us would be a huge fuThe bike is looking absolutely great! The powdercoat work is beautiful, and I’ve got my fingers crossed for you that the paintwork makes it back on time. I’ve shot that heavy bass boat flake before and it’s a workout. On top of keeping it mixed and keeping the gun unclogged while shooting it and trying to lay it out evenly, it requires a boatload of wetsanding and re-clearing with more flake mixed in… multiple coats to get it laid out looking deep. I have tons of respect for the guys that make a living spraying custom work and doing it right. Tell you the truth, I really miss it.

Anyway… it’s still absolutely killing me that I can’t get out there to help you finish the build and get the bike on The Salt. It’s pretty much a done deal now that I can’t make the trip, though I hate to admit it. No dough, no go – it’s that simple. I had high hopes, man… high hopes for this trip. Fuck.

I trust that your last few parts will show and you’ll be on The Salt 09.02, breathing down the neck of the 200 club. No doubt. Good luck to you. As always, let me know if there is anything I can to do help out, last minute.

Once you get back and get caught up with the website, we need to talk. I’ll be anxious to hear first hand how things went in Bonneville, and there are a couple ideas for the site I’d like to run by you. Stay in touch.

THE END–Gotta get back to the shop, after I launch that tech. Where’s those image codes? I usually handle images myself, but once in a while I reach out.

Wait till you see the front fender for the Assalt Weapan. The Engine was scheduled to arrive Friday, but never showed. Palm Springs Harley-Davidson went into full alert last Thursday to find the last Harley-Davidson Dyna Glide front-end component. It should be in my hands next week. If I’m rolling dicey sevens, the bike will be up and running by Friday.

Watch for another report toward the end of next week. In the meantime, have a beer and say a blessing to the Code of the West that all the bros and broettes make it home safe.

Ride Forever,
