ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING Thursday NEWS FOR NOVEMBER 11, 2014

Hey,

I’m surrounded by various groups of folks recently who have varied priorities in their lives. We have kids in their 20s who work hard, go to school, and are dedicated to sports, community, or their church. Others just want a 12-pack, and others are just pissed off and can’t get past it.

Then there are the business owners. Some are wealthy, others are new to the game. It’s interesting, that it’s all about attitude. A guy can own a successful multi-million dollar enterprise and be worried to death about the next quarter profit margins. The next guy can own a small struggling shop, with no product line, and a rent increase, and he doesn’t care. He’s just interested in the next custom he’s building and making it to the next show. He loves the freedom and is having a blast.

Lots of guys have approached me about the new Biker Build-off show. They are scrambling to be apart of the line-up. Others, experienced builders don’t want to be approached by the production company. It was too much work for too little return, and the TV guys are making bank off their hard work and talent. The bank doesn’t come back to the individual builders.

On the other hand, fame is worse than opium. It’s a drug that will drive a man or woman to leave their spouses, sell their homes, abandon their kids, you name it. But at the end of the day, these shows, good or bad, are good for our industry, so hang on and enjoy the ride.

Let’s hit the news:

The Thursday news is sponsored in part by Iron Works and Cycle Source Magazines.

THE CONSTANT BIKERNET SEARCH FOR THE CODE OF THE WEST—Just in from Dr. Feng: The man who is known to be honest, is awarded survival, good jobs, and good friends.

The man who has his ideals, no matter how thoroughly he may be persuaded to desert them by the minions of the devil, survives well, only so long as he is true to those ideals. L Ron Hubbard from Science of Survival

Dr. Feng: Sometimes I use them conversely: if there is an area of my life where I am not surviving well I realize I must be violating one, or some of my ideas. If I can spot it, and change it, then my survival in that area gets rehabilitated. It’s like magic.

THE AMMO CONTROVERSY–
There are numerous alarming reasons why the US government and the military have been buying up all the ammo. Here’s one of them. Obama and the EPA just shut down the last lead smelting plant in the US. They raised the EPA regulations by 10 fold and it would have cost the plant $100 million to comply. You can own all the guns you want, but if you can’t get ammo, you are out of luck.

Remember when Obama promised his minions that he was working on gun control behind the scenes? Welcome to it. Now, all domestic mined lead ore will have to be shipped overseas, refined and then shipped back to the US. Not only will ammo now be even harder to come by, the demand and the process of supply will cause the price to skyrocket even more. And ponder this… there is an excellent chance that Obama will rig the market to where all ammo has to be purchased from the government instituting an ammo registration.

There has not been a peep about this in the major news outlets and it is done. With the US no longer producing lead, all supplies will now have to come from China, Australia or Peru, with the overwhelming emphasis on China.

The EPA had this to say: The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency said the Doe Run Company “made a business decision” to shut down the smelter instead of installing pollution control technologies needed to reduce sulfur dioxide and lead emissions as required by the Clean Air Act.

BIKERNET STAFFER OF THE WEEK–My name is John Gilbert, AKA “Crazy” John, “Krylon” John. I was born in Los Angeles, CA. in 1952 on the celebratory day of the French Revolution. My mom, God rest her soul used to say that I’ve been a little Bastille ever since. I started riding motorcycles in 1964, and Harley-Davidsons in 1970. In the Summer of ’70 with a chopped ’49 Panhead for transportation, I opened up the first Crazy John Custom Paint shop in Davison, Michigan.

Back in CA. my association with Easyriders magazine began in 1972 with the meeting of Keith Ball. In 1999 as the editorial director of Easyriders Inc. Keith hired me to create a custom truck lifestyle magazine in the spirit of Easyriders… I named it Tailgate. After leaving a company rife with idiocy (later they tanked Tailgate ) I joined Keith at Primedia where he was the editorial director of its bike group that included Street Chopper, Hot Bike, and Hot Rod Bikes.

Keith brought me into the company, and onto the staff of Hot Rod Bikes. Since HRB I’ve been the editor of Custom Classic Trucks, American Truck, and have freelanced for over 20 car and motorcycle titles. As of 11/11/13 I’m back on staff as Classic Trucks tech editor. It was David Mann that told me I had the ability to become a writer, and Keith Ball who gave me the chance.

I love contributing to Bikernet because as bikers our view on the world is just a little different than its square citizenry. Our experiences are more varied, and we have a way of looking at things differently. I enjoy being able to connect with a readership that shares this unique perspective.

It’s us against them. I’m sick of today’s world with its ever increasing offended sensitivities, and a proclivity for laws that serve no other purpose than to crush personal freedom. Today I want each and every person reading this to enter an elevator, or other form of public transportation, and let the loudest most horrifically rank fart of their life. After this gaseous exuberance presented on a grand scale in a public domain, look around and count your brethren. Brothers will be laughing, and the weak will cringe.

YOU’RE GONNA LOVE THIS BIKERNET UNIVERSITY ENGLISH DEPARTMENT WORD OF THE DAY–
mufti MUHF-tee, noun:

1. civilian clothes, in contrast with military or other uniforms, or as worn by a person who usually wears a uniform.?2. a Muslim jurist expert in the religious law.?3. (in the Ottoman Empire) a deputy of the chief Muslim legal adviser to the Sultan.?4. (initial capital letter) Grand Mufti.

The men in mufti take the field in Goodbye Mexico, leaving behind the armed warriors and those who couldn’t find where to get mufti.

— Phillip Jennings, Goodbye Mexico, 2007

Zdrastvuyte kak pozhivaete horosho spasibo” Entwistle rattled off in excellent imitation of Russian speech–and indeed he rather resembled a genial Tsarist colonel in mufti.

— Vladimir Nabokov, Pnin, 1957

Mufti came into English in the late 1500s from the Arabic word of the same pronunciation. The word literally meant a person who delivers a judgment. The sense of “civilian clothing” arises from the legal adviser being a civil official who did not wear military garb.

CDC TASK FORCE TO RECOMMEND MANDATORY HELMET LAWS–
The Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF) reports that the rumors are true. A Centers for Disease Control (CDC) task force is set to issue a report calling on all 50 States to enact mandatory helmet law.

The task force, known as the Community Preventative Services Task Force, is a 15 member, non-federal, independent group that utilizes CDC staff and resources to develop “Findings and Rationale Statements“.

These statements make recommendations that run the gamut of topics from asthma control to work place safety. The past recommendations have included motor vehicles, focusing on seat belts, child seats and alcohol use. This is the first time the task force has recommended anything to do with motorcycling. Task force members are appointed by the Director of the CDC and serve a five-year term. All current members are doctors, with one exception.

The report claims that mandatory helmet laws will save lives and money. This is the same tired, lopsided theme used by the CDC in their last report about motorcycle safety.

According to the CDC website the six main safety tips for riders are: always wear a DOT helmet, never drink and ride, don’t let friends drink and ride, avoid tailgating, wear bright colored protective clothing, and don’t ride fast on gravel.

There is not one mention of rider education or licensing. It is not a surprise that the CDC’s answer to motorcycle safety are helmet laws, it is their go-to answer. The new report was drafted by associates of the individuals that issued the last CDC motorcycle safety report. The repetition is to be expected. In conversations with the MRF, the CDC clearly expressed their opinion that rider education does not work. Strangely lacking from the long list of prior recommendations of the task force was distracted driving.

One would think that a group of highly educated individuals may appreciate that education should play a role in motorcycle safety. The motorcycle safety community has proven that rider education works. Over the first 10 years of the New Hampshire State motorcycle safety rider education program, more than 23,000 motorcyclists were trained and since then only one person from the 23,000 has been in a fatal crash.

In addition, the CDC asserts that fatalities have nearly doubled since 2000 while failing to take into account the increase in registered motorcycles. In fact, in 2000 there were 2,862 fatal crashes for 4.9 million registered motorcycles. This means in 2000 .058 percent of all registered motorcycles were involved in a fatal crash. In 2010 there were 4,502 fatalities for 8.4 million registered motorcycles, which puts just .053 percent of registered motorcycles in a fatal crash. A slight decrease in the ratio of registered motorcycles to fatalities with 3.5 million more motorcycles on the road. These are just some of the facts presented from the CDC research that have been presented at all four MRF conferences going back to fall of 2012.

The CDC solution to motorcycle safety is safer crashing. We at the MRF have been urging the government to shift the focus of motorcycle safety to crash avoidance, not safer crashing. The best crash is the one that does not happen.

The task force report will try to convince their reader that states with choice helmet laws experience a higher amount of health care costs. That’s just not true. In 2010, the Kaiser Family Foundation conducted a study of inpatient hospital expenses by state.

Of the 12 most expensive states for daily inpatient hospital expenses, seven had mandatory helmet laws. The 12 least expensive states for daily inpatient hospital expenses, four had mandatory helmet laws. Mandatory helmet laws do not save money.

Members of Congress recently sent a letter at the request of the MRF, asking the CDC to discontinue this sort of research. The letter asks the CDC director to focus on such issues as heart disease and not motorcycle safety. The letter was authored by Mr. Tom Petri (WI) and was publicized and promoted on Capitol Hill by the MRF. The MRF sent numerous releases asking the motorcyclists to help get congressional support. The CDC Director’s response is sure to be weak, but will be reported on.

The MRF learned from CDC staff that the task force report is expected to become public sometime the first week of December. The MRF is working on obtaining an embargoed copy of the report. This is certain to be national news. Even the staff members at the CDC are aware of this and are calling the report “controversial”.

Use the MRF’s latest “Fact or Fiction” piece, which was made public at the most recent Bikers Inside the Beltway event in Washington D.C. in May of 2013 to educate your legislators. The one page document has information about the CDC and the misconception related to the effectiveness of helmet laws. The MRF encourages you to use this information and contact your friends in Congress to let them know this is coming.

You can view the “Fact or Fiction” piece here:Fact or Fiction

Be armed with the facts, its likely that you will be contacted by media reporters, friends and family members asking you why you support helmet law choice. Be informed and vigilant. We need to stand up for our rights. You have to defend yourself because no one else will.

Should you need any documentation or information do not hesitate to contact the MRF D.C. office.

BENNETT’S PERFORMANCE REPORT—Eric and the gang at Speed Merchants ducked the Signal Hill Police road-block to ride to the Unknown event and party last weekend. “It was a great old school time,” Eric said.

He recently dyno’d his S&S 106-inch upgraded twin cam featured on Bikernet, and it reached 112.29 Horsepower with 119 pounds of Torque with the S&S super G installed and tuned. “It hit it’s top numbers with the first combination,” Eric said. “No matter what I did to the jetting or timing, it didn’t improve on the original numbers. The new S&S air cleaner proved itself. With the air cleaner removed the numbers didn’t improve.”

He may try a run with a new Mikuni 48 mm carb for another comparison. We will bring you more dyno reports and a feature in the very near future.

WILD BOOK OF THE WEEK, The Man Who Killed Kennedy: The Case Against LBJ– Legendary political operative and strategist Roger Stone has gathered documents and used his firsthand knowledge to make a compelling case that Lyndon Baines Johnson was not only involved in JFK’s assassination, but was in fact the mastermind. In his new book, The Man Who Killed Kennedy: The Case Against LBJ (Skyhorse Publishing, November 4, 2013), Roger Stone brings to light blockbuster revelations demonstrating that LBJ had the unique motive, means, and opportunity to murder President John F. Kennedy.

Stone analyses Johnson’s personality agreeing with Pulitzer Prize winning biographer Robert Caro that Lyndon Johnson was an “amoral psychopath”. Stone ties LBJ with at least eight political murders before JFK. “LBJ would order a murder like you and I would order a ham sandwich.” says Stone.

No one man benefited more from the assassination than Vice President Johnson. A thirst for power aside, without the presidency, Johnson was to be removed from the 1964 ticket by the Kennedys, and prosecuted and incarcerated due to his involvement the twin scandals of the Senate’s Secretary to the Majority Leader, Bobby Baker and Texas wheeler dealer Billy Sol Estes.

Staring into the abyss, the choice for Lyndon Johnson was clear: to yoke the various entities that had a mutual interest in JFK’s death; This included the CIA, the Mob and Texas Oil who feared JFK’s repeal of the oil depletion allowance. Stone outlines LBJ’s unique history with each. The murder was orchestrated in Johnson’s Texas, where his control of the Dallas Police Department, Dallas County Sheriff’s Office, and the Dallas County District Attorney was absolute.

As an early Congressional overseer of the Central Intelligence Agency along with his ally Sen. Harry F. Byrd, Johnson had his hands deep in the Agency. LBJ had also benefited from huge campaign contributions from the mob. Both would be utilized in the murder of the 35th President, along with Johnson’s personal hit man, Malcolm Wallace, whose fingerprint would be found in the Texas School Book Depository following the assassination and authenticated by Nathan Darby, the most experienced certified latent print examiner in the country. Stone says this fingerprint evidence ties LBJ irrevocably to the murder.

The notable individuals that knew and said Johnson was involved in murderous acts is also well-documented… they include Oswald murderer Jack Ruby, Dexter Scott King, son of Dr. Martin Luther King, as well as LBJ associate Billy Sol Estes, LBJ mistress Madeleine Brown, Texas Governor Allan Shivers, renowned Texas Ranger Clint Peoples, CIA asset E. Howard Hunt and US Senator and 1964 Republican nominee for President Barry Goldwater. The KGB, fearing that they or their puppet state Cuba would be falsely blamed conducted their own investigation and concluded LBJ killed JFK at the same to time French Intelligence would tell Jackie Kennedy LBJ murdered her husband.

Lastly Stone asks us to consider – why did Vice President Johnson hit the floor in his limousine when his car turned into Dealey Plaza and before the first shot was fired? Why was Johnson on the car floor listening to a walkie-talkie?

OPERATION DUSTOFF–
Vietnam Remembered

By Tony Pan

On Friday, November 8, 2013 a very special remembrance took place at the Wisconsin State Capitol. Marking the 50th Anniversary of the start of the Vietnam War, Wisconsin Department of Veteran’s Affairs Secretary John A. Scocos welcomed veterans, dignitaries and guests to the rotunda of the State Capitol during an emotional ceremony.

The huge crowd heard bitter-sweet testimonials and personal stories from veterans who served in Vietnam. Governor Scott Walker said in his keynote speech, “All military veterans are deserving of our utmost respect, but today we specially honor those who served in Vietnam. I am honored to be a part of properly welcoming you home and thanking you for your service.”

Special guest, Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient Gary Wetzel, led the Pledge of Allegiance at the start of this very special program. Guests arriving at the Capitol before the start of the cermonies were treated to a motorcycle parade circling the square for over 20 minutes, led by none other than combat veteran and former Wisconsin State Senator, Dave Zien.

STOLEN MOTORCYCLE RETURNED–73-year-old man reunited with his favorite motorcycle 46 YEARS after it was stolen from his backyard.

By ASHLEY COLLMAN, Mail Online

A 73-year-old man will soon be reunited with his favorite motorcycle after it was stolen from his Omaha, Nebraska backyard 46 years ago. Last week, customs officials in Los Angeles stopped the 1953 Triumph motorcycle on its way to Yokohama, Japan when they ran a report and discovered that it had been stolen on February 4, 1967.

Donald DeVault was 26-years-old when he reported the motorcycle missing, but had long given up hope of ever getting it back. When a customs official contacted him last week, he thought it was a scam at first.

Happy day: 73-year-old Donald DeVault got some good news last week when customs officials called to tell him that they found his stolen motorcycle – after 46 years missing?

Old friend: Devault was 26-years-old when the Triumph motorcycle was stolen from his fenced-in backyard in Omaha, Nebraska. He had owned the bike for less than two years at the time.

‘I didn’t have a clue that I’d ever see that bike again,’ he told the Omaha World-Herald.

‘I’m going to ask her, “Where have you been?” I bet there’s a lot of stories she could tell me. I wish she could talk because a lot’s happened in 46 years,’ he said.

Since the bike was stolen, DeVault has gotten married, had children and bought and sold some 50 other motorcycles.

But DeVault isn’t the only one who’s changed. From the picture sent to him by customs officials, he can tell that the Triumph was repainted and the seat adjusted.

When he owned the motorcycle it was baby blue and had the inscription ‘Li’l Blue B****’ painted on the side.

When he gets the motorcycle back in about two weeks, he plans on putting the inscription back on the bike and adding ’46 years Later’.

DeVault owned the Triumph for less than two years when it was stolen in 1967, but he still made plenty of memories on the bike.

One time he was out for a ride with his girlfriend when the chain broke and injured her thigh. He chuckles when he recalls her getting off the bike and pulling down her pants in the middle of the street to look at the huge bruise.

The Triumph was valued at $300 when it was first reported stolen but over the years it’s appreciated in value to around $9,000 – but DeVault has no intention of selling it. This time around, he’s going to be much more careful with the bike.

‘I really want to protect it this time. I’m sure there’s people out there that would want to take it away,’ he told KETV.

While his two other motorcycles are kept in the garage, DeVault plans on keeping the Triumph in the house and is even considering encasing it in glass in his living room.

Coming home: DeVault currently owns two other motorcycles which he keeps in his garage. But he plans on keeping the Triumph closer – in his house. He even has plans to encase it in glass in his living room.

MOTORCYCLISTS 23 PERCENT BETTER BEHIND THE WHEEL OF A CAR– Finally, a leading insurer’s data shows what we’ve all know for years – we are safer behind the wheel than non-motorcyclist. MOTORCYCLISTS are 23% safer behind the wheel of a car than non-motorcyclists, according to a leading insurer.

Equity Red Star compared car drivers to car users who also have an insured motorcycle, and found the latter 23% less likely on average to make a claim on their car policy.

The firm also adjusted the figures to take into account the different typical ages of car drivers and motorcyclists, and still found the riders to be 21% better behind the wheel. The results showed motorcyclists were 20% less likely to make a bodily injury claim on their car policy.

The insurer examined 200 million policies between 2007 and 2012.

Rob Clark, Equity Red Star’s Head of Retail Motor, said: “A motorcyclist could, behind the wheel of a car, be said to be 23% better.”

Clark presented the data yesterday at a conference organized by the Motorcycle Industry Association to examine evidence that increasing the number of motorcyclists on the road could actually improve safety.

The conference was held in the offices of the Department for Transport in London.

1938 Harley-Davidson WLD Solo Sport Owned by Steve McQueen Up for Grabs–
November brings another bike formerly owned by Steve McQueen under the hammer of auctioneer Mecum. This time we’re looking at a true piece of bike history: an 1938 Harley-Davidson WLD Solo Sport.

The bike shows the original paint from the factory and its odometer shows 21,000 miles (~33,790 km).

One of the coolest things about this bike is that it also comes complete with McQueen’s personal tools which have been found wrapped in a piece of denim cloth in the frame-mounted toolbox.

Just like one would expect, the McQueen ownership is fully documented and the lucky winner of the auction will take home the bike and the original bill of sale from estate sale, odometer statement from estate sale, original auction catalog from estate sale and 1984 Certificate of Authenticity.

Mecum will have this bike (lot S138.1) auctioned on November 23 in Anaheim, California. For more info on the bike, please get in touch with Mecum.

BAGGER WERX SUPPORTS POWERSPORT INSTITUTE–North Randall, Ohio (Cleveland) – Today at the PowerSport Institute Campus, the American V-Twin Program Education Manager, Ron Radeke and Bagger Werx Management reached an agreement for Bagger Werx to provide support to the program during up coming projects in 2014.

“The popularity of the touring models in recent years has had a great and very positive impact on the industry, That being said, we plan to expose PSI students to a substantial amount of work in this realm. As we made this decision for our 2014 plan, we knew we needed to have access to some cool and unique products that our students could use and likely continue to use once in the work force. As we combed the internet and numerous publications including Bikernet Bagger, we came across Bagger Werx and founds tons of very cool products we had not seen before” Said Ron Radeke.

Radeke adds, “We contacted them and they immediately agreed to lend their support. It is a done deal and we are very glad to add them to our impressive list of sponsors / partners in excellence in education.”

Bagger Werx management states, “We are very happy PSI contacted us. We feel that if companies like our don’t take advantage of this chance to participate in programs such as this, we do the industry a terrible injustice. Without support from the industry, at some point, the industry will obviously suffer. To be part of this is very exciting opportunity is a great thing for all of us at Bagger Werx. We look forward to working with the staff and students in the very near future.”

BIKERNET TRIKES NEWS–Three-wheeled car buyers won’t have to take motorcycle test

By TRACY SAMILTON

The state legislature has approved a bill to change Michigan’s motorcycle laws. The change will let Elio (pronounced EE-lee-oh) Motors sell a three-wheeled car in the state, without requiring buyers to take a motorcycle safety test, known as a motorcycle endorsement.

The “Elio” is technically a motorcycle because it has three wheels and weighs less than 1,600 pounds. Nonetheless, it is a car, with car safety features like airbags.

Joel Sheltrown of Elio Motors says Michigan’s old law would have required buyers of the Elio to take a motorcycle safety test – which teaches things like, “the throttle is on the right handlebar” and you should “lean into a curve.”

“Leaning into a curve isn’t going to do you any good on a three-wheeled vehicle because it handles like a car handles,” says Sheltrown, and it’s why, when trying to do a figure eight in the car, “we run over the cones and we hit the white lines.”
Sheltrown says he thinks other states with similar laws will have modified them by the time Elio Motors plans to start production of the Elio in late 2014.

His main concern is the five states that require drivers of three-wheeled vehicles to wear a helmet.

He says those laws must be changed by the time the Elio is for sale, because wearing a helmet in a car obscures the person’s vision and hearing, and the weight of the helmet also has the potential to cause severe neck damage in an accident.

The cars will be built at a former GM plant in Louisiana. Elio Motors says they will cost $6,800 each, and the company anticipates the vehicle will get a five-star safety rating.

The company plans to make the cars affordable for low-income buyers, by letting them pay off the car each time they fill up the gas tank.

A special credit card will charge buyers an extra fee on top of the price of the gas. The theory is, because the car is so fuel-efficient (84 MPG highway, 49 city), drivers won’t even notice the extra fee – since they’ll essentially be paying the same price for gas as they would in a regular vehicle.

BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRARY NOW OPEN–Dinner for Three

A Man and a Woman were having a quiet, romantic dinner in a fine restaurant. They were gazing lovingly at each other and holding hands. The waitress, taking another order at a table a few steps away, suddenly noticed the man slowly sliding down his chair and under the table, but the woman stared straight ahead.

The Waitress watched as the man slid all the way down his chair and out of sight under the table. Still, the Woman stared straight ahead.

The Waitress, thought this behavior was a bit bizarre and risqué. Thinking that it might offend other diners, she went over to the table and, tactfully, began by saying to the woman “Pardon me, Ma’am, but I think your Husband just slid under the table.”

The Woman calmly looked up at her and said, “No, he didn’t. He just walked in the front door.”

UNCLE MONKEY Things change. Its not something that we can stop or even try to stop or hinder. Change drives the world around us, progress, and evolution never stop. Many are disappointed that Harley-Davidson is throwing away decades of tradition and moving away from air-cooled motors. It soon will be the era of the Wethead.

The truth is we have no one but ourselves to blame. The new design evolution is necessary to help improve emissions and keep the motor within the confines of the EPA. Bigger motors produce more exhaust – it is the nature of the beast. Harley would probably be more then happy to have kept building the iconic Knucklehead but we wanted more – more horsepower, more cubic inches, more growl.

We are quick to criticize change and quicker to criticize when something is outdated.
The secret to survival is small changes year after year. Increments of improvements that are necessary to stay alive, to progress, to thrive. It is a difficult concept. Many stick to their guns that if something isn’t broken don’t fix it but that can only get you so far before it is completely worn out.

It is impossible to get back from that point without requiring a complete and utter rebuild, revamping, a fresh sheet of paper, fresh idea, fresh concepts. It can be insurmountable. Harley-Davidson could have easily said the Revolutution-ary V-rod engine was and is the only option but they are making the small changes necessary to stay ahead of the curve. I hope that it is not too late.

The EPA will only get tougher and waiting until the “last minute” to make changes can only mean failure. Harley has had to already start the testing and prototyping the next step with the following step already on the drawing board.

Change will happen whether you like it or not. Either carry the torch or be burned by it.

Hard to believe but it’s true. The thermometer hangin on the shady side of the world headquarters wall hit the 91 degree mark mid afternoon. Claude, the shops talkin parrot was singin a happy tune and crackin his daily ration of nuts and fruit.

Tuesday afternoon visited Mark Susman’s Colorado Custom shop while making my daily rounds. The Crew in the machine shop have finished one bad ass Air Plenum that has re-moveable velocity stacks.

Next we need to locate the sweet spot for the rear foot pegs, drill and mount.

Next on the even shorter list, or is it growing, we’ll modify the positioning of the handlebars for a non-cramped comfortable feel.

Seems the more we accomplish, the more we discover we need to do. The wheels will coming off the CNC machines for detailing, ceramic bearings, new rubber and balancing.

The front carriers mounting the latest Lyndall Racing Brakes composite rotors will get the blacked out treatment. The latest composite rotor for a lightweight Busa rear rim is in the machining process for 60 percent less rotating mass. Should spool up quite easily.

Once these tasks are accomplished we’re trouble shooting the wiring harness connecting the four fuel injectors to the Daytona Twin Tech Computer. This summer on the salt we had a Gremlin hiding somewhere. Possible component failure or? Look out Gremlin, we will find you it’s just a matter of when?

Stay on top, Ride Safe and Fast.

BROUGH SUPERIOR SS100 Re-Introduced At EICMA–Fresh from setting seven records on the Bonneville Salt Flats, the 1000cc V-Twin Sport Classic unveiled at the EICMA show in Milan, Italy was designed not only to set records at Bonneville, but to kick off the 90th anniversary of the most famous model in the company’s history — the Brough Superior SS100.

The Brough Superior SS100 celebrates the company’s 90th Anniversary. The company, founded by George Brough and made famous by “Lawrence Of Arabia” T.E. Lawrence, the born-again brand is the brainchild of Brough Superior CEO Mark Upham. Upham purchased the brand in 2008, with the intention of expanding the Brough’s role in motorcycling history.

The SS100 is built around its specifically designed 88-degree V-Twin displacing 997cc, intended to produce between 100-140hp, depending on ECU settings. The production version has not been set to be released in the U.S. yet, since the new SS100 will only be available in limited numbers. However, Upham stated that the long-term goal for the Brough Superior is to become the new reference in technology, performance and distinction. Superior also wishes to establish a world-wide dealer network.

MADNESS, OR ARE THE STARS OUT OF ALIGNMENT—As you know life is strange. You can get up one morning and the dog is cool, and yapping, the ol’ lady wants to hold hands, and the guy down the street found an old Indian motorcycle patch and gave it to you. Maybe the neighbor who borrowed a lift two years ago returned it (when you thought you might never see it again), and brought a fifth of Jack.

So, a week goes by. You help a couple of brothers get on the road, wash the ol’ lady’s car, and loan out the lift again. You roll over the next morning and the dog bites your hand and knocks over your favorite planter. Your woman runs off with the mailman. Some guys in the industry try to steal another guy’s business, someone starts a competing biz after you helped him with his clients for five years, and someone close tries to put you in a trick bag over a motorcycle. Just makes you want to go back to bed and hope for a new morning.

I try to focus on the positive and ignore the negative. It will work itself out. We feel so damn good about what we are doing around here, we hardly have a minute to breath or think about negative waves. I can’t tell you how positive we feel about helping guys in the media, helping riders ride again, helping companies grow, helping fight bad laws, and helping with Bonneville efforts. It’s a blast. It’s all positive, creative, and moving forward.

We will have several very exciting announcements toward the end of the year, about the next. We are investigating a new product line, which we will launch next year. Next year I will publish my next Chance book, and my first motorcycle screenplay. We will be working closely with the Motorcycle Riders Foundation, Biker Pros, and on our crazy Bonneville plans.

It’s just the way life rolls. Most days are flying high constantly making progress, then there’s a day that comes up snake-eyes. Just gotta keep rolling the dice.

Ride Forever,

–Bandit
