The aspect of the book that questioned was that he took that boat apart piece by piece on every page. Every misguided consideration, leak, mechanical problem and poorly rigged sail was mentioned in the book. Chapter after chapter, page after page pointed out that these people had no business building sailboats. As it turned out after testing for a year or two they launched his model with major modifications from the original and it was a decent craft. It’s amazing after his book was printed that they stayed in business.
As I read it I felt a tinge of comparing building bikes and how there are always problems. I pondered writing styles and I felt at times that either these bastards should be lined up and shot or he was a sniveler. It made me think about how I write techs and reports on projects we build. It also made me think about Bikernet and the hassles we have with advertisers and whether I should write about all the evil, lowlife bullshit that comes down the pike or move on.
It’s a tough one at times when you’re trying to pay the bills and you’ve been jacked around by people you considered to be friends. Okay, so there’s just one of the perplexing problems of life. It actually is a gruesome element we are all faced with on a daily basis. We can piss and moan about everything from the old lady to the mechanic who fuck up your car regularly, or take it in stride, make the most out of it and move ahead. Of course we can always dump the old lady, kill the mechanic and go find a new girl. Yeah that’s it, let’s get to the news.

The human heart creates enough pressure when it pumps out to the body to squirt blood 30 feet (OMG).

Freedom Festival Comes To New Orleans
Annually there’s a Freedom Festival where bikers get together and discuss impending restrictions or new regulations hindering our freedom to ride. It’s also a get together to celebrate the successes of the year and to share the spirit of the open road. Don’t miss it.
Get yourself some ammo for that fight by getting yourself or somebody from your organization to our next NCOM (National Coalition of Motorcyclists) 2002 Convention, in New Orleans, May 9 – 11th. Expect about 1200 biker freedom-fighters from all over the globe, and about 40 of our AIM Attorneys from all over the good ol’ USA. Need more info? Look on the AIM/NCOM website at www.ON-A-BIKE.com, or call the national office at 1-800-ON-A-BIKE.
AIM Reports On Riding In Kenya
In a feature story out of Kenya, they’re discussing the origins of lightening. A very few folks there still think the land is “cursed” once it’s hit by lightening. Fortunately, in Kenya, where a lot MORE people ride, percentage-wise, than here in the U.S., at least their experts are warning riders to STAY OFF their scoots in a thunder storm. REAL GOOD ADVICE.
Harley-Davidson Faces Euro Tariffs
According to Reuters News Service, Harley-Davidson is not worried about the threat of the European Parliament placing stiff tariffs on their motorcycles sent to Europe. They said this in spite of their shares falling in value on the stock market when the news got out. Guess we’ll see.
AIM Attorney Stands For Oregon Bikers
EUGENE, OR: Here’s an update for you on the motorcycle seizure story here in Oregon, as reported in last month’s Gunny’s Sack. Our AIM Attorney for the state (and my boss), Sam Hochberg, has taken on a pro bono (read that as working for free) case to try to stop what we think is a growing problem. In the last Sack, we reported that a non-patch rider leaving a club’s anniversary party was stopped for basically no reason.
The cops took his bike back on February 9th, citing POSSIBLE stolen parts they hadda look at. Well sir, it’s now April as this Sack goes out, and they STILL have the bike. Aren’t their eyeballs SORE from staring at that motorcycle all this time?
Sam’s law firm took it to court in late March. The judge AGREED there was no probable cause to stop the biker, and AGREED the biker proved his bike was properly inspected by DMV and had a proper reconstructed title. But she said the cops could still KEEP the motorcycle!! Indefinitely, it seems.
Sam and his associate, Leah Johnson, are convinced the judge is dead wrong. The plan now is to file a “Writ of Mandamus” with the Oregon Supreme Court, as well as file an appeal in the Court of Appeals.
Sam got us some backup, too: The state’s criminal defense lawyer association, OCDLA, will file an amicus, or “friend of the court” brief for the biker, too. We’ll keep you up to date right here in the Sack as this story develops.

Cantina Code Revealed
One of these days we’re going to etch the Code of the West in stone and post in on the site. The Bored Of Directors of Bikernet voted unamiously to honor the Code of The West in the Cantina and on Bikernet in general. The is code is being hammered out by Nuttboy, Snake and Wrench with my guidance and Renegade’s constant criticism. The code reflects directly on my babbling at the beginning of the Post. We here at Bikernet believe in the Code that dictates that a man stands tall always and there is no time for sniveling and putting others down needlessly. We believe that we only have one life and each day is precious so make the most of it. Plus when we say, “that’s history” we mean it. “There’s no time to lose,” Let’s Ride.
