AFGHAN ATTACK BIKERNET WEEKLY NEWS for October 18th, 2018

Hey,

The last two weeks have been amazing, although my fortune cookie told me to watch out for evil spirits. But maybe that was a Halloween warning.

I scored an abandoned ’72 Ford F250 Pickup and we’re working on it like crazy. It runs like a champ but needed a lot of detailing.

Last Saturday I flew to Carson City, Nevada and picked up my four-year-old project, the Salt Torpedo, a streamlined trike for Bonneville.

I immediately set up the Torpedo in the shop and went to work. We printed out the AMA Bonneville Racing Book and we are going to town on it. It needs to be on the salt next year. Let’s hit the news.

The Bikernet Weekly News is sponsored in part by companies who also dig Freedom including: Cycle Source Magazine, the MRF, Las Vegas Bikefest, Iron Trader News, ChopperTown, BorntoRide.com and the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum. Most recently the Smoke Out and Quick Throttle Magazine came on board.

SON FRANK WORKING WITH KLOCKWERKS—On his dresser fender update. “It’s a Slicer front fender from Klockwerks,” Frank said. “It’s tough and fit perfectly.”

FLORIDA STORM UPDATE–
I was at Berry Wardlaw’s after doing the Barber Vintage Festival with him.
I was scheduled to leave Tuesday but changed it to Monday.

Got I the left lane and turned on radar detector and laser jammer and passed everything but the gas stations.

I got a couple of sprinkles but never had to put rain gear on.

Berry got hit hard. He stayed at his shop and did all the things he could to protect the Accurate Engineering shop tools and bikes.
He has a lot of work ahead of him but he is okay.

Nothing happened at my place, which is on the east coast of Florida.

NMA REPORT: What’s Going on at the DMV?– For years, comedians have made fun of long lines at the DMV (Departments of Motor Vehicles), but you know what…it’s not really funny anymore.

The widespread problem seems to be three-fold.

· Short term: A number of states are now under a tight deadline to implement REAL ID and motorists must apply for one in person.
· Long term: Some state computer systems and software have not kept up with modern times.
· Long term: There aren’t enough funds to either hire or find qualified personnel to fill positions for expanded services.
It’s a huge problem if you have all three issues such as the state of California.

By October 1, 2020, California will need to find a way to issue 23.5 million REAL IDs. That’s close to one million license conversions a month between now and then. Since January, the state has only issued 1.5 million. In the past year, California DMV wait times have risen 46 percent compared to 2017, but the agency reported in early October that it has been making progress by reducing customer-without-appointment wait times from 130 minutes in July to 73 minutes in September.

The underlying problem though is the very old computer system running the driver’s licensing system. The California DMV has had dozens of computer blackouts in the past two years that brought the entire system down for hours at a time.

The governor ordered a performance audit last month and California lawmakers have also gotten involved. During a committee hearing this summer, DMV Director Jean Shiamoto said that they are also having an issue due to the service expansion of issuing a new digital driver’s license.

Shiamoto asked lawmakers for an additional $26 million for more personnel on top of the $60 million budget increase granted last year. Recently, the DMV redesigned its website for easier access and officials are hopeful that drivers can now handle more of their business online.

Earlier this summer, Idaho and Colorado underwent an extensive computer upgrade through the company Gemalto, the largest DMV software vendor in the US. In Idaho, offices were closed for the first two weeks in August to facilitate the upgrade. By the end of August, the upgraded computer systems went down for more than a week, crippling the ability of every local driver’s license office to process everyday transactions in both states.

Idaho county sheriff offices oversee the state’s DMV offices and now they are asking the state to take over that function since these computer problems have been plaguing them for months. Sheriffs say their offices are not equipped to handle such ongoing problems. The Idaho governor has responded by putting a working group together to resolve the issues. Idahoans with expiring driver’s licenses now have until the end of October to renew them.

Minnesota started issuing REAL ID licenses on October 1 and so far no long lines have been reported. However, more than a year ago, a $100-million-plus computer system was rolled out and it is still plagued with problems.

Lawmakers have proposed diverting $5.5 million from the REAL ID budget through February to work on the continuing issues. After February 2019, the work to fix the MNLARS system could cease if lawmakers and the governor do not provide additional funding. A more secure funding plan failed earlier this year.

Hawaii had longer lines this summer because a few years ago the state changed the length of a driver’s license expiration terms, from six to eight years. Two years ago, the DMV had 2,000 renewals per month and this year there are now 12,000 renewals per month. Hawaii introduced appointments and even opened up some offices on Saturday mornings. The department is also finding it difficult to fill positions.

Lines in North Carolina were so bad this summer that the DMV enlisted volunteers from all DOT employees to take on volunteer four-hour shifts. DMV Commissioner Torre Jessup says about 600,000 people have already gone through the REAL ID process with average wait times now twice as long as last year. In August, Jessup said that one of the biggest problems is filling positions. Out of the 552 driver’s licenses examiners, 80 positions remain open. The DMV has 113 DMV offices statewide.

In late August, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) announced that it planned to close 87 DMV offices to allow the agency to move staff and resources to other offices that serve more people. Seventy-eight of the offices set for closure were the only ones in their counties and many customers would have had to drive 50 miles or more for services.

Texas’s Sunset Commission rejected the recommendation to shutter the mainly rural offices. Lt. Governor Dan Patrick also objected to the idea and said that the biggest problem for DPS licensing offices is that a majority of people visit to renew driver’s licenses when that could be an online function. He has encouraged the DPS to develop a more aggressive plan to educate drivers about renewing online and has pledged to make this a high priority in the next legislative session.

The Sunset Committee also sent a recommendation to the legislature to transfer responsibility for the driver’s license program from DPS to the DMV. If approved, that transfer will take place by September 2021.

These problems across multiple states are not readily solved. Before you go to your local DMV office, the NMA recommends that you check the agency’s website and see if you can do your business online, at a kiosk or even at the service counter of your local grocery store or library. If not, then make sure you bring all the required documentation so that you won’t have to make another trip or stand in line more than once.

JJ SOLARI RESPONDS TO VAGO RUNNING FOR OFFICE–Here’s an overland letter to the editor I just mailed to the San Berdoo Sun.

Dear Editor; Hey, I saw the story you ran about the former Vago running for the City Counsel in Upland. Apparently the appointed chief of police of that town, a…..I have it here, hold on…….here it is: the appointed chief of police of Upland, a “Darren Goodman” …..he says he has a problem with this.

The chief of police of Upland, Darren Goodman, an appointed bureaucrat, has a problem with who the rest of us can vote for! Darren Goodman – who will never have to run for office to acquire a lifetime of a whopping salary, pension, health care and having his teeth fixed – he want’s me to know his opinion on who is fit for me to vote for.

Why is an appointed official dictating who is holy and sanctified-enough to run for office? Why is that. Why isn’t the mayor of Upland, assuming there is one, telling this expert in saintliness and candidate-worthiness to spend a little less time talking to reporters and a little more time sitting and waiting quietly for a crime to be committed before he opens his yap about his opinion of the culprit.

Do you suppose Darren uses the same magical insight when determining who he should issue tickets to that he uses on who is morally fit to run for office?……. “The reason I stopped you sir is because I have a feeling that tomorrow you are going to exceed the speed limit in a school zone. So I will give you the ticket now. You see, I am a godlike judge of character and ability and job performance. I am, in fact, an omniscient being, if you will.”

Actually I don’t blame Darren for being ignorant of the right of a citizen to run for office since he is in office due to an appointment. No, I don’t blame him. I blame whoever promoted him. He’s the problem. Thank you.

Sincerely,

–J.J. Solari

VANDERHALL MOTOR WORKS ANNOUNCES LUXURIOUS THREE-WHEELED ROADSTER–Boutique Utah Autocycle Manufacturer Revealed

The New Vanderhall Carmel

Vanderhall Motor Works hosted the first public appearance of its new Carmel three-wheeled roadster in Las Vegas, October 11-14.

The fifth autocycle model Vanderhall has announced since 2016, the Carmel shares similarities with the company’s volume-leader Venice three-wheeled roadster..

However, the Carmel adds doors to ease ingress/egress and additional interior space. The new model will be powered by the aluminum-block GM 1.5L four-cylinder turbocharged engine, rated at 200 horsepower.

This represents almost a 10-percent increase over the current Venice’s 180-HP iron-block 1.4L GM turbocharged I-4. The 1.5L engine is also lighter, giving the new Vanderhall model road-hugging 75/25 weight distribution.

“The new Carmel emphasizes our ongoing commitment to the autocycle segment,” said Vanderhall marketing director Daniel Boyer. “In contrast to other manufacturers in our market, the one and only thing Vanderhall does is manufacture All-American autocycles. We are committed to being the leaders in this segment, and the Carmel is the latest evidence of that dedication.”

The Carmel follows four other significant introductions from Vanderhall, which hand-crafts all its vehicles in Utah. The company’s flagship Laguna autocycle with hand-laid carbon-fiber body was launched in 2016. Last year, the more-affordable composite-bodied Venice appeared. The Venice serves as the foundation for the all-electric Edison2 model and one-seater Speedster – which is scheduled to be in dealerships before year’s end.

For the 2019 model year, the Vanderhall Carmel adds front entry doors and demonstrates the line’s next evolutionary step. In addition to the aluminum-block engine, high-performance 4-piston brakes are standard. Further, provisions for accessory air conditioning and a removable roof have been integrated. Unique 19-inch wheels inside Z-rated tires are another departure from the current models, which run 18s.

The Carmel will be offered in four distinctive colors: Silver Vintage Metallic, Poseidon Blue Metallic, Ruby Metallic, and Pearl White. Other features such as the patented mono-aluminum chassis and ABS composite body carry over from the existing Venice model.

For more information on the Vanderhall line-up or to locate your closest dealer, please visit Vanderhall Motor Works Inc. at vanderhallusa.com.

Californians Under 21: Buy Guns Now!
California Rifle and Pistol Association NRA

Thanks to the infinite wisdom and dedication to disarmament of the California legislature and Governor Jerry Brown, Californians under the age of 21 will soon face yet another infringement on their Second Amendment rights. As of January 1, 2019, 18-, 19- and 20-year-olds will be able to own long guns, they just won’t be able to buy one (or have one transferred to them). Good times.

Anyone between the ages of 18 and 21 in the Golden State can vote. They can get married without permission. They can serve in the military (with real guns!). They can enter into binding contracts. But alcohol and firearms are clearly far too much responsibility to entrust to them. Legally, that is.

So the folks at the California Rifle & Pistol Association have sent out this helpful email blast that highlights a few of the new law’s finer points and exceptions:

California’s Legislative season has officially ended, finally. While many bad anti-gun-owner bills were defeated, Governor Brown did sign several bills that, while these new laws, piled on top of all the old laws, still won’t do anything to make us safer, will restrict the rights of law-abiding citizens.

Among these bills is Senate Bill No. 1100 (“SB 1100”), which raises the minimum age to purchase a “long gun” firearm. This restriction is scheduled to take effect on January 1, 2019.

Gun owners should be aware that the bill only prohibits dealers from selling or transferring firearms to folks under 21. Even if you are under 21 years of age you are not prohibited from owning or possessing a long gun. You just can’t go buy one because the dealer is prohibited from selling it to you.

What’s more, the bill provides for several exceptions, including:

Persons over the age of 18 who possess a valid, unexpired hunting license issued by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife;
Active duty law enforcement who are authorized to carry a firearm in the course and scope of their employment;
Active federal law enforcement who are authorized to carry a firearm in the course and scope of their employment;
Reserve peace officers who are authorized to carry a firearm in the course and scope of their employment; and,
Persons who provide proper identification as an active or honorably discharged member of the United States Armed Forces, the National Guard, the Air National Guard, or the active reserve components of the United States.
Earlier this year, the National Rifle Association filed a federal lawsuit challenging a similar law enacted in the state of Florida. That lawsuit, currently titled NRA v. Bondi, challenges Florida’s law as a violation of the Second Amendment and Equal Protection Clause of the United States Constitution. In addition to NRA serving as lead plaintiff, 19 year-old “Jane Doe” and 19-year old “John Doe,” who’s (sic) actual names have been redacted for their safety and privacy, are also challenging the law.

The NRA v. Bondi lawsuit could end up before the United States Supreme Court. A favorable decision there, or even in the Florida appeals court, would have precedential effect on similar laws — like SB 1100. In the meantime, NRA and CRPA attorneys are analyzing the effects of SB 1100 and are considering filing a lawsuit against California’s restrictions. With the midterm elections and all the other pro-Second Amendment lawsuits that NRA and CRPA are helping to support in California, funding is very tight. You can help aid in these legal efforts by donating to the NRA-ILA and the California Rifle & Pistol Association Foundation.

Undercover cops and reputed Pagan bikers get into wild bar brawl–A wild bar brawl in Pittsburgh between undercover cops and reputed members of the Pagans motorcycle club ended in the arrests of four bikers, according to police.

The fight at Kopy’s Bar on South 12th Street broke out early Friday after a customer outed four narcotics detectives working undercover to investigate complaints of drug dealing, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

“Those guys are cops,” the customer said while pointing at the detectives, prompting the six purported Pagans to stare, Detective Brian Burgunder wrote in a criminal complaint.

Realizing their cover had been blown, one detective approached the bikers and “confirmed to them that we were, in fact, police officers and we were not there to infringe on anyone’s good time,” according to the complaint.

Two of the bikers — some of whom wore Pagans vests — left the bar. The remaining four and the detectives kept an affable atmosphere at first, shaking hands multiple times, until things took a violent turn when Frank Deluca, of Greenfield, began screaming and pushing one of the detectives, police said.

Michael Zokaites, a 6-foot-3, 280-pound man from Shaler, allegedly punched Burgunder and another detective in the head and face before another detective swung back and tackled Zokaites.

Burgunder, according to the complaint, then grabbed Deluca and noticed a gun in his waistband before screaming out that the suspect had a gun. Deluca refused to comply with the detective’s demands and continued kicking and punching inside the bar, where some of the melee was caught on camera by a customer.

“I’m a cop, I’m a cop,” one detective can be heard screaming on the footage while trying to subdue the suspects. “What the f—k is wrong with you?”

At one point, a police sergeant who arrived on the scene broke out his pepper spray, hitting both the bikers and fellow officers. Deluca continued to fight back until he was ultimately subdued with several punches to the face, police said.

A gun was found in Deluca’s waistband, police said. Another man in the group, Erik Hertzrater, 28, of Hampton, also had a gun in his waistband, although both men had permits to carry concealed weapons, according to the complaint.

Bruce Thomas, 61, of Allentown, was also arrested. All four men were charged with aggravated assault, conspiracy and riot, according to the newspaper. No serious injuries were reported. Deluca was hospitalized before being taken to jail with two black eyes and significant bruising to his face, his booking photo shows.

But the executive director of the city’s Citizen Police Review Board said she has some questions about the incident and has opened an inquiry.

“The content of the video I saw raises questions as to the professional conduct of the officers involved,” Elizabeth Pittinger told the Post-Gazette.

DUCATI DETROIT WINS SECOND ANNUAL BARBER CUP PRO CHALLENGE RACE–Ducati is no stranger to victory on the racetrack, and last weekend it was with great enthusiasm that Ducati Detroit took home a win at the AHRMA Barber Cup Pro Challenge in Leeds, Alabama.

Rider Taylor Knapp beat out his fellow competitors on a Ducati Panigale R, the company’s last homologated twin, in the second annual running of the race, which was organized during the Barber Vintage Festival at Barber Motorsports Park. Now in its 14th year, the Barber Vintage Festival took place from October 5-7 and is a leading motorcycle festival hosted by the world-renowned Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum in Alabama.

“The race was good. I didn’t have the best of starts, but was able to keep the lead group within reach. I got around Tommy (Bridewell – British Superbike) on lap three and made my way up to Geoff (May – Moto America/World SBK), “ said Ducati pilot, Taylor Knapp. After I passed Geoff for the lead I tried to put some distance between us, but he came back and passed me on the next lap. I was able to re-pass him on the brakes into T1 and that was the last that I saw of him.

“I’m really happy to get the win for Ducati Detroit on the Panigale R. They’ve been working very hard and gave me a bike capable of winning this race against top level teams and riders, which really speaks volumes about their program. I’m already looking forward to this race again next year!”

“We encourage grassroots racing and particularly when it involves a great dealership like Ducati Detroit,” said Jason Chinnock, Chief Executive Officer of Ducati North America. “Their victory is proof that a production motorcycles put in the ride hands of a capable dealership, team and rider can deliver results in a competitive field. To see Ducati Detroit enter the Barber Cup Pro Challenge and have the team return with a win, is proof positive of Ducati’s racing DNA from our motorcycles to our dealer network.”

Ducati Detroit, an exclusive dealership located in Birmingham, Michigan, as an anchor for the Italian brand in the Midwestern region of the United States. They have been a top sales dealer and consistently delivered a premium experience for their customers in the Midwest since their inception 5 years ago. The showroom is located at 33828 Woodward Avenue in Birmingham and website can be viewed at www.ducatidetroit.com.

Analysis: Trump KO’s ’60 Minutes’ on ‘climate change’ – Trump’s skeptical remarks were ‘scientifically, politically and economically accurate’

The mainstream media once again attempted to challenge President Donald Trump on “climate change,” but Trump emerged unscathed by refuting typical climate claims with accurate and remarkably scientific comments in an October 14, 2018, 60 Minutes interview. (Even the mainstream media acknowledged Trump’s overall interview victory: See: Variety: ’60 Minutes’ Was Outmatched by Trump – ‘He won every segment of the interview’)

A Climate Depot analysis finds that President Trump’s climate remarks were scientifically, politically and economically accurate. Finally, the United States has a president who understands “global warming”! See: Full climate transcript: Trump: Scientists who promote ‘climate’ fears ‘have a very big political agenda’ – [As Variety noted, Trump understands how to battle the mainstream media: Reporter Lesley Stahl asked Trump about “the scientists who say [the effects of climate change are] worse than ever,” but was [she] unprepared to cite one; knowing, now, that the human factor will not work on Trump, a broadcaster should be prepared to cite hard facts in a faceoff with the President.]

President Trump to 60 Minutes: “I think something’s happening. Something’s changing and it’ll change back again,” he said. “I don’t think it’s a hoax. I think there’s probably a difference. But I don’t know that it’s manmade. I will say this: I don’t want to give trillions and trillions of dollars. I don’t want to lose millions and millions of jobs.” … “I’m not denying climate change,” he said in the interview.

Reality Check: President Trump is frankly giving his assessment of man-made climate change and his understanding is in agreement with some very high profile scientists. Trump has been remarkably consistent with his climate views, demanding that the
“The Nobel committee should take the Nobel Prize back from Al Gore”
in the wake of the Climategate revelations in 2010.

Trump is also correct on so-called climate “solutions” costing “trillions and trillions” of dollars. See: ‘GLOBAL WARMING’ ‘SOLUTIONS” COULD COST $122 TRILLION &

NEWS FROM JACK DANIELS–As Jack Daniel’s Master Distiller, Jeff Arnett is responsible for making sure that “every day we make it, we’ll make it the best we can.” And although craftsmanship and a dedication to doing things Jack’s way are very important to us, that doesn’t mean innovation isn’t also important.

Jack Daniel’s has been an innovator since Mr. Jack’s day. He and Lem Motlow were always willing to embrace new ideas from bottle design to new releases. In that same spirit, Jeff Arnett and Assistant Master Distiller Chris Fletcher always have a few special barrels tucked away in our barrelhouses. One of the most interesting parts of being a distiller is the chance to experiment a bit.

For years, only our distillers and tasters have had the chance to sample these special barrels, but we’d like to change that.

This fall, we plan to begin offering a series of small batch, limited edition bottles celebrating our whiskey-makers’ craft here in Tennessee only, including at the White Rabbit Bottle Shop.

We’re calling these releases our Tennessee Tasters’ Selection. A Master Taster will choose each release and their tasting notes will be on the label. Our first release is chosen by Assistant Master Distiller Chris Fletcher from our High Angel’s Share Barrels.

As most Squires know, the angels take their fair share from our barrels especially those stored in the Angel’s Roost, the highest floor of our barrelhouses. In the case of these barrels, the angels’ took a bit more than their usual share, so much so that we’ve gone so far as to put the average barrel weight on the back of each label.

Barrels matured at these higher elevations tend to have more robust flavor expressions, and because these barrels are more concentrated than usual, the result is flavors that are truly unique.

We’ve bottled this expression at 107 proof to highlight the whiskey’s robust character. We hope that you’ll give it a try and share your own tasting notes. Also, be on the watch as we plan to release new Tennessee Tasters’ Selections each year.

If you had purchased $1,000 of shares in Delta Airlines 5 years ago, you would have $49.00 today! If you had purchased $1,000 of shares in AIG 5 years ago, you would have $33.00 today. If you had purchased $1,000 of shares in Lehman Brothers 5 years ago, you would have $0.00 today.

But, if you had purchased $1,000 worth of beer one year ago, drank all the beer, then turned in the aluminum cans for the recycling refund, you would have received $214.00. Based on the above, the best current investment plan is to drink heavily & recycle. It is called the 401-Keg.

And as a bonus…
A recent study found that the average American walks about 900 miles a year. Another study found that on average Americans drink 22 gallons of alcohol a year. That means that the average American gets about 41 miles to the gallon!

More tails wagging as breweries serve up specialty ‘beer’ for dogs–
When Megan and Steve Long’s Rottweiler mix, Rocky, started having digestion problems, the couple needed a way to help him keep his food down.
Megan scoured the internet looking for remedies, but none seemed to do the trick.

“I’m not a crazy dog lady. I just really wanted to prolong my boy’s life,” she said.

Then she stumbled upon a solution she could brew: “beer” for dogs – a nonalcoholic beverage packed with healthy ingredients for pooches. Fastforward almost a year, and Good Boy Dog Beer company sells three different beers throughout Houston in more than 20 dog-friendly restaurants and bars.

And they’re not alone. Across the U.S., dog “breweries” have sprouted up in the past 10 years crafting beverages for dogs that allow owners to share a cold one with their pet while also giving them with a nutritious treat.

Long and her husband were already in the bar and restaurant business in Houston before they first brewed a batch for Rocky. After a few friends asked for some, they saw a business opportunity.
They call it beer “because we use a lot of the same equipment a brewery does. We just skip the fermentation process,” Long said.

Since starting Good Boy Dog Beer in August, the couple has shipped batches
to other states and plans to introduce a fourth beer to the lineup: “Crotch Sniffin’ Ale,” made with unsalted peanuts and almonds, whole grain oats, cinnamon and water.

The brews can be served on their own or poured over food to soften it – that’s how Rocky uses it for digestion help, Long said. The drinks, which sell for $5 a can, are not meant to replace a full meal, she added. Long said dogs have loved it, but for humans, it tastes bland because there’s no salt.

“IPA lot in the yard,” “Session…Squirrel!” and “Mailman Malt Licker” contain various vegetables, meats and spices, but all three also have turmeric – an ingredient Long said is “amazing” for dog digestion. All the brews Good Boy Dog Beer serves feature all-natural ingredients, she said.
“We only use spices that are 100 percent friendly to dogs and have a health benefit,” Long said.

Among the other companies selling dog beer in the United States: Happy Dog Beer Co. in Montana, Pet Winery in Florida and Apollo Peak in Colorado.
Jenny Brown, CEO of Bowser Beer based in Seattle, said the brews aren’t just a fad.

“It’s not just a seasonal or gifty thing,” she said. “A lot of people use it as an everyday food topping.”

Brown, who founded her company in 2007 and soon began making one of the only dog beers that she knew of in the United States, now sells her brew in more than 600 pet stores, restaurants and bars around the country.

She’s looking to expand, too, after she said Bowser Beer doubled its sales last year.
Given how people invest
in their dogs, Brown thinks growth will continue. In 2017, Americans spent almost $70 billion on their pets and $29 billion of that on food, according to the not-for-profit American Pet Products Association. In 2007, overall expenditures were at just $41 billion, according to the trade association.

“The truth is people love doing things with their dogs,” Brown said. “People love including them in everything.
“People love their dogs, and they love to extend what they like on their dogs.”

THE BOTTOM LINE–
Thanks for sending the attached links. It has always amazed me how easy it is to convince seemingly intelligent people that a problem exists when there is no scientific or recorded data to back it up. It’s an old scam, using the Hegelian triad of thesis, antithesis, synthesis to promote an agenda that won’t stand on its’ own merits.

The definition of the triad is, (1) a beginning proposition called a thesis, (2) a negation of that thesis called the antithesis, and (3) a synthesis whereby the two conflicting ideas are reconciled to form a new proposition.

Using this model, someone wanting to promote over-regulation based on global warming rhetoric would first create a problem where none exists, such as attacking motorcycling and small internal combustion engine products as major polluters. That’s the thesis.

The antithesis is to challenge the thesis, but to do so in a way that will lead to the desired solution. In this scenario, the people pushing the global warming agenda grudgingly acknowledge that motorcycles and small internal combustion engines are not major polluters, but insist that they are indeed polluters and should still be considered part of ‘the problem’.

The typical argument here is that while we can’t control how much methane livestock puts into the atmosphere, we can control small contributors such as motorcycles, lawnmowers, etc. and should therefore do so. Meanwhile, this antithesis ignores the data that shows that motorcycles and small internal combustion engines are not truly ‘small’ contributors. Mathematically, they’re virtually non-contributors. Both the thesis and antithesis are based on a lie.

The synthesis is to come up with a seemingly well-reasoned solution to the nonexistent problem, such as pushing for over-regulation that includes ‘small’ contributors. And if you can also give the solution a catchy name, so much the better.

Safety nazis and over-zealous environmentalists have been using this model for years to promote their agendas. At the end of the day, it’s always about controlling the populace through misinformation.

In particular, I thought your conclusion on The Road to Zero (‘the perfect regulatory business model’) was spot on.

DON’T FORGET TO VOTE
Every year, many motorcyclists like you cast their ballot on Election Day, fulfilling the most basic action in a democratic society. Voting is a fundamental process that keeps our system of government working. Through elections, citizens have the ability to decide on who represents them in government, be it a local official, a state or national representative, or the president.

On Election Day, voters will not only be able to select their representatives in government for the next term, but they also often have the ability to decide on measures like bond issues that grant the government permission to borrow money for construction projects and other developments. And sometimes voters cast their ballots on social issues such as allowing same-sex marriage or banning smoking in restaurants and bars.

Reading up on the issues, the candidates, and researching the ballot is also the responsibility of the citizen voter and a responsibility that should not be taken lightly, because it is your voice, with the many others, in unison, that can change the direction of a community, state, nation, and even the world. This is why we have published a VOTE LIKE A MOTORCYCLIST VOTER GUIDE. Each race is broken down and the candidates have answered the five most important questions YOU submitted.

Given the importance of elections in the United States, why would do so many people choose not to vote? Why do some refuse to participate in elections when the officials and issues voted on have such strong influence on nearly every aspect of their lives?

Last election cycle when I received the email from Woody with the results from the candidates I got a little excited. I wanted to see where certain candidates stood and if they made any comments. I was wholeheartedly disappointed. Alot of incumbents did not respond. A big DNR. I felt slighted in a way. I can understand if a presidential candidate does not respond but a local state candidate? Come on people. Take a look at the list. I feel as if the candidate/incumbent just blew me off personally. Yes, I take things like that a little too personal at times and makes me mad. Maybe that’s why some people call me Grumpy. I for one am giving a DNR to those incumbents who did not respond. Do Not Reelect. You can see who responded and who did not this election cycle.

Many argue that their vote really doesn’t count. Some say that they don’t know enough about the issues and think they shouldn’t vote. Others still say that they do not know where or how to vote or how to register. I have done my best to overcome those obstacles for you.

Arizona Motorcycle Voter Project (azmvp.org) has the information on how to register to vote. The VOTE LIKE A MOTORCYCLIST Voter Guide has information about the candidates.

What do you think of these reasons and how would you respond to family or friends that used them? With a government elected by its citizens and that effects every aspect of our lives from schools to health care to homeland security, voting is an important right in our society. By voting, you are making your voice heard and registering your opinion on how you think the government should operate. Enough voices in unison can elect someone to office, reaffirm or even change the course of our government.

Let our voice be heard: #irideivote

Freedom is a team sport.

AUSTRALIAN GUN NUT REPORT–South Australian cops actively rolling out firearm Prohibition orders

Police in the Aussie state of South Australia say around a third of the state’s estimated biker population is now permanently banned from possessing firearms as a result of a major police operation targeting them and other ‘organised criminals’.

The operation – dubbed Embargo – has resulted in dozens of current and former club members, along with other ‘criminals’ being hit with Firearms Prohibition Orders following recent legislative changes. There are now 327 individuals subject to Firearms Prohibition Orders – 102 are specifically claimed to be current and former club members.

Dozens more are expected to be subject to the orders as the operation continues.

Those issued with an FPO are subject to strict conditions, including a ban from being in possession of a gun or ammunition and even being in the presence of another person who is either carrying or has access to a gun.

While the majority of the FPOs have been issued by police against individuals, there have been 94 instances in which the courts have issued orders following the conviction of an offender in a firearms-related crime.

Senior police claim that said since the FPOs were introduced they had contributed to the marked decrease in gun violence between individuals and groups and made public places safer.

“It is an effective preventive policing tool, particularly in times of tensions between groups,’’ said Detective Superintendent Kym Hand.

“The legislation is aimed at public safety. It gives us the ability to preclude people from handling weapons and firearms that they could use to cause harm either to themselves or others. Operation Embargo is almost halfway through the process of considering more than 250 files – with more than 100 of those files still active.

“The project has looked at all the persons involved either as members, ex-members or key associates of those groups.’’

Under the new legislation, any challenge or review is first heard in the SA Civil and Administrative Tribunal and can be escalated to the District Court upon application.

Firearms Branch officer-in-charge Chief Inspector Greg Hutchins said while the orders were policed, this was not done on a random basis or by targeting any individual.

“Given the quite restrictive nature of the orders, it is important that a level of context is applied. It is not done at any time, it is what is reasonable for compliance,” he said.

S&S Twin Cam Gear Drive Set Installed

https://www.bikernet.com/pages/SS_Twin_Cam_Gear_Drive_Set_Installed.aspx

Yeah, I know this about two decades too late, but I (was drunk) and have that low of miles on my bike. So I just now am addressing the cam issue.

I really don’t see why they didn’t just focus on the problem rather than re-creating so many other solutions that cost out the rear end of a monkeys ass to purchase. $550.00 for a set of gears. Really! Is this the NASA space shuttle? They could have paid me all those millions in R&D and still made money.

No! I think even S&S and the others need to make a buck or two on the solution, thus all the distractions of billet plates, bearings, new cams, over priced gears, oil pumps, bubble gum flavored oil, bolts, etc. But My highest respects to S&S, just like HD, those guys sure know how to milk the cow.

The (99-06/even the latters) V-Twin cam problem is the “to small, too thin, too weak, wrong design, wrong material” junk plastic portion and that’s it! A $2.00 piece of plastic if it cost that much!

The bracket works just fine in its concept! Haven’t heard a thing about the metal part of the “thingy” have you? Just the plastic failing! So lets not be lead by the nose in miss-direction of some magic trick as to buy $1700.00 worth of upgrades. Chances are you will pick the wrong cam lobes and end up reworking the top end as well….Another few grand later on.

There is no reason to go all rocket science on it and cast a new plate or machine it out of high grade aircraft aluminum, unless someone just wants the supercharge the motor and credit-card with high performance at the same time. Your spending $500.00-$1700.00 (plus labor) to fix the issue of two $30.00 over priced brackets no bigger than the lifters, or more accurately to replace two $2.00 pieces of poorly thought out and poorly formed shapes of plastic?…. (of whatever fantastical futuristic material its made of).

It does one thing, it presses on the chain as to take the slop out of the chain so it won’t jump a tooth and time. Sure better bearings, high volume oil pumps, and other are nice EXTRAS for the power hungry Motor-heads, but in my book that is cornering the market and an up-selling manipulative monopoly. “Because its the American Heritage”!

More accurately, It’s an Error of Harley- Davidson who wants to pocket their monies and avoid the responsibility of fixing the problem as it will both “Cost them” and “Destroy their Reputations” due to Recalls, parts and labor cost.

–Shade Tree Bob
A small one, TN

I agree with some of your contentions. Twin cams are expensive beasts, unlike the perfect Evo, but we still installed new cams in our Evos to make them breathe and run stronger. Except with an Evo, you can perform the upgrades in your garage for a few bucks.

The new M-8 leaned back toward the Evo configuration, but I would have liked a gear driven cam over the chain. More problems?–Bandit

QUESTION OF THE DAY–
You may have answered this one somewhere but here goes. Could you run a hot rod Panhead from across the Mexican border to a gas station on the USA border on high alcohol mescal in the mid ‘60s?

QUICK, New Bikernet Reader Comment!– 6-Speed Conversion From Rivera Primo

https://www.bikernet.com/pages/6Speed_Conversion_From_Rivera_Primo.aspx

Great kit for a while til the pinion gear starts to loosen the starter shaft support.Stainless steel bolts in an aluminum housing tends to stretch the threads and no matter how much locktite you use and no matter how many times you torque the bolts it loosens till it falls off while you’re riding and it usually gets lost.

Finding one of these is damn near impossible especially if you have the cone shaped one. Calling Rivera-Primo is a lost cause. If you have access to a machine shop then you’re golden but if not plan on NOT riding the bike at all.

You may or may not find it on e-bay but it’s a crap shoot anyway. Talked to Rivera-Primo and the person I talked to said they would ship one out and only charge 60 bucks…the money went out then imagine my surprise when the money was BACK in my account and still no support plate and no call for the reason.

If they aren’t gonna back up their product whats the use? Other than having a nice piece of yard art it’s a good system while it lasts…I recommend heli-coils in the bolt holes…may save having to have your bike trailered and just sitting there.

Bandit & James. I can’t speak for the Rivera Primo that now exists (or not), but I can tell you that when I was with the company the (1071-0001) 4-to-six speed conversion kits (and I am the one responsible for this particular product) never used stainless steel bolts.

All the bolts we used were Grade 5 alloy SHCS with either a Zartan coating or bright zinc coating. Further, it is incumbent upon the rider to pre-maintenance his of her bike prior to riding.

As we all know, some Harley’s tend to vibrate a might bit and this inherently tends to loosen bolts. A wee bit of blue thread locker will normally help to relieve this problem, but pre-maintenance is always recommended.

I sympathize with you on not being able to contact RP, it was once a great little company with great customer service. I started American Prime Manufacturing Inc. to manufacture some of the old product that is not available form RP now, and I modeled this new company after the RP when I was working there; great customer service, quality parts and answering the phone when it rings!

AUSTRALIAN CLUB NEWS–Operation Morpheus targets Rebels MC during Australian National Run

Police have charged seven people and seized cash, drugs and a knife following a week-long operation that targeted the Rebels motorcycle clubs National Run in the state of Victoria.

As part of Operation Morpheus, NSW anti-biker squad Raptor joined their counterparts from Queensland Police Service and Victoria Police to proactively target the Rebels National Run from Sunday, September 30, 2018 to Sunday, October 7, 2018.

Operation Morpheus is a National Anti-Gangs Squad initiative, combining the resources of all Australian state and territory police agencies and key Commonwealth agencies, to detect, deter, and disrupt any illicit activity of motorcycle club members and associates.

During the operation – which began in Queensland and travelled through Moree, Dubbo, Parkes and Albury – seven people were issued court attendance notices for a range of offences, including possess prohibited drug, possess drug equipment, drive while suspended, assault police, and custody of a knife in a public place.

Officers also issued 104 traffic infringement notices and 61 defect notices to club members, and searched 33 people; seizing cash, a knife and prohibited drugs.

Criminal Groups Squad Commander, Detective Superintendent Deborah Wallace, said club members should expect more operations such as this as interstate law enforcement agencies continue to work together.

“We know outlaw motorcycle clubs are not confined to one particular state or criminal activity, and, by working together with our interstate colleagues, it allows us a united front to further disrupt their criminal enterprises,” Det Supt Wallace said.

“As part of our proactive strategies, we had several club members turn back near Moree to return to Queensland. In fact, attendance for this event was significantly lower than previous years.

“We make no apology for conducting these operations. If you are an club member and commit any illegal activities in NSW, you should expect to deal with our Raptor officers.”

Strike Force Raptor was established in 2009 and conducts proactive investigations and intelligence-based, high-impact policing operations to prevent and disrupt conflicts, and dismantle any network engaged in serious organised criminal activity.

THE LIST JUST GREW—I have a list every week. I’m proud to cross shit off as I handle it and move onto the next project.

The list for the truck diminished some this week as I handled various aspects and ordered parts. The Redhead was assigned seat covers. Actually, it only needs the bench seat. The back rest is fine. Let me know if you have any recommendations.

As of tomorrow, I will be all over the Salt Torpedo and working with Atomic Bob on another illustration. We may need a mandrel bender and we have plenty of tubing sources in the area.

We also need a steering box, but I will talk to Speedway motors about dragster steering boxes. I think I will look around the area for a race car shop and try to hang out.

Hang on for our first report next week. I’m also working on a report for the MRF regarding motorcycle legislation thoughts for next year. Plus, we have a historic report coming your way.

In the meantime prepare to vote and ride free forever.
