Hey,
Hang on. I took a subscription to the Wall Street Journal. I’ve never liked papers. I read the Week Magazine cover to cover. I watch C-span for what’s happening. I don’t watch any news programs except the BBC and it seems to be dying.
My mother recently passed and she had a small stock portfolio. My brother and sister immediately cashed out their portions, but that allowed me to hand pick what I wanted to hold onto. I sorta wanted to honor my mom’s hard work as a seamstress to maintain this portfolio, for over 60 years. I couldn’t just scrap it. She also plotted her stocks weekly. I’m working on a program to follow the stock market. Haven’t come to a conclusion yet. I’d rather work on a motorcycle or weld.
I’m about to have a mural painted on the side of the Bikernet Temple of Doom. I watched a documentary the other night about a Nazi Temple of Doom. Life is nuts. On one hand we have folks so bored they go to their city council meetings and bitch about loud motorcycles.
On the other hand the media is fascinated about Nazis constantly, who killed millions, and the fights around the planet don’t seem to be slowing down, yet we have folks who want to take guns away, like we don’t need them. I’m lost.
Fortunately, I have my own Bikernet Security Baracks, plenty of guns, motorcycles, whiskey and a redhead at my side. And now, with a little stock portfolio, I’m golden. Let’s hit the news.

Women always say some snide little comments when they catch their guy looking at a cute girl. Bill’s wife caught him last week. She said, “You look like a kid in a candy store!”
Thank God Bill is witty. He came right back with, “Yeah, well, I’m married now so, I’m a kid with diabetes in a candy store.”

I don’t know if he smelled my scent, but he’d followed my tracks down the driveway to the mailbox, which I’d gone out to check before work. That’s when a passing truck hit him.
My wife called me at work, and I raced to meet them at the vet. Gunnar was crying, and his nose was bleeding. I’d never heard him cry before, and it just about broke my heart.”
On that cold winter day in a rural Wisconsin vet clinic, Jason Parker made a decision that altered the course of his life. His black lab had a spinal injury, and the vet offered euthanasia. Instead, Jason chose to fight for Gunnar.
“The next day we took him home, and I slept with him that night on the floor. In the morning, I got up to find Gunnar awake but not moving. I called a vet friend of mine, and she told me to go to the university vet clinic ASAP.”
Jason is a volunteer firefighter, so he knows how to stabilize patients with spinal injuries. He and his wife, Stephanie, strapped up Gunnar and hit the icy roads for the two-hour drive west to the University of Minnesota.
That’s where they discovered Gunnar’s two broken vertebrae. His lower body was paralyzed, and his chance of recovery was only 50/50. Again, they offered to put Gunnar down. Again, Jason refused.
“The problem with traumatic injury, especially for an animal, is you’re never prepared for it?—?mentally or financially. It pretty much drained us.”
Jason and Stephanie laid out their credit cards for the over $6,000 in surgery bills that day, and then again for Gunnar’s second surgery for slipped pins and the months of physical therapy that followed. But Gunnar’s hind legs still didn’t move—and with immobility came pressure sores. Something needed to be done.
Jason started researching paraplegic dogs and discovered canine wheelchairs?—?at a hefty price of $600, which after all the bills they just couldn’t afford. That’s when friends stepped up and chipped in for the cart. The day Gunnar got his wheels, he took off rolling?—?mobile again at last.
Inspired by his friends’ kindness, Jason decided then and there that one day he’d pay it forward.
Jason turned to Stephanie and said, “This is where it’s gonna start.” Jason found a used cart online and sent it to the shelter?—?addressed to Hope herself.
Soon after, Jason set up a GoFundMe to collect donations for his new organization. He wanted to help other animals regain mobility and freedom. Gunnar’s Wheels was born.
Seven months later, Gunnar’s Wheels has sent over 100 free loaner carts to animals in 30 states and three countries—and Jason can still recount every animal’s name and story by heart.
Animals are free to use their carts until they recover or pass on, at which point Gunnar’s Wheels arranges for the loaner cart to go to a new recipient.
Thanks to their GoFundMe donations, Gunnar’s Wheels hasn’t had to turn away a single animal yet.
Gunnar’s Wheels has become a family affair. Jason wakes up at 5am to respond to emails before heading to work. He’s partnered with three canine wheelchair manufacturers to help cut costs, and his sister reaches out to universities and vet clinics to find spare carts. Stephanie recently filed their 501(c)(3) forms and helped Gunnar’s Wheels become a registered nonprofit.
“I hope that Gunnar’s Wheels will live on. If everyone who’s ever loved an animal just gave $1, we could fund this thing into the next generation,” says Jason. “I’m hoping my kids will run this after I’m gone.”
Jason still holds down a full-time job as a car parts salesman and helps out as a volunteer firefighter. As a first-responder in rural Wisconsin, Jason often sees a lot of high-speed freeway accidents, where he helps operate the Jaws of Life. Gunnar’s Wheels has helped him cope.
“You can get hard as a volunteer firefighter. You see so much tragedy you almost lose your feelings. Since Gunnar’s accident, I’ve really softened up. His injury, while tragic, was a blessing for me personally and I think for animals all over.
“I want people to realize that handicapped animals have options. We don’t have to give up on them. So many times vets asked me if I wanted to put Gunnar down. If I had, all of this never would’ve happened.”
Jason still makes an effort to talk to every animal owner on the phone before he sends out a cart: “I give them advice on taking care of paraplegic animals. I want owners to know I’m there for them. I try to let them know, ‘Don’t worry. Help is on the way.’”
Learn how you can support Gunnar’s Wheels.

GREENHOUSE GASES —
Animal agriculture is responsible for 18 percent of greenhouse gas emissions, more than the combined exhaust from all transportation.
Transportation exhaust is responsible for 13% of all greenhouse gas emissions.
Greenhouse gas emissions from this sector primarily involve fossil fuels burned for road, rail, air, and marine transportation.

COMMENT FROM BIKERNET CONTRIBUTOR– I saw my story in the Bikernet Weekly News, thanks. You folks there are the bomb.
I told you I don’t always expect to have an article published but when you do, it takes me back to the old days of our biker freedoms.

THE EASTER GUN NUT REPORT– California Legislature Back to Work and Anti-Gun Bills Scheduled to be Heard this Week
The Legislature returns from Spring Recess on Monday, April 17, with more anti-gun hearings coming this week in their respective Senate Committees on SB 464 and SB 497 and possible floor votes in the Assembly on AB 7 and AB 424. Click the take action button below to contact your legislator and urge them to oppose SB 464, SB 497, AB 7 and AB 424!
SB 464 is expected to be heard on Monday, April 17, by the Senate Appropriations Committee at 10 AM in room 4203. SB 464 would change the storage and security requirements of all firearms in the inventory of a licensed firearms dealer. California already has some of the strictest laws in the country regarding how dealers must store and secure firearms. This bill simply places more costs and mandates on law-abiding business owners.
SB 497 is expected to be heard on Tuesday, April 18, by the Senate Public Safety Committee at 9:30 AM in room 4203. SB 497 would expand the existing one handgun a month law to include ALL guns. Governor Brown vetoed similar legislation in 2016. Governor Brown states in his 2016 veto message, “Given California’s stringent laws restricting gun ownership, I do not believe this additional restriction is needed.”
It is obvious this legislation is another attempt to place more costs and barriers to those exercising their rights and does nothing to address the criminal misuse of firearms or firearm trafficking. Criminals who generally acquire their firearms through illicit means will continue to ignore California’s stringent laws including limitations on the number of firearms that can be acquired within a 30 day time period.
On Wednesday, April 5, anti-gun bills, Assembly Bill 7 and Assembly Bill 424, both passed the Assembly Appropriations Committee and are now eligible for third reading and the final vote by the full Assembly.
Assembly Bill 7 would further extend California’s ban on the open carry of an unloaded firearm while in or upon a public place or public street within a prohibited area located within the unincorporated area of a county.
This legislation is not about stopping or reducing firearm crime, it is about stereotyping law-abiding gun owners who are openly carrying an UNLOADED firearm as a criminal. California has some of the most stringent laws regarding the ownership and possession of a firearm. A person who is openly carrying a firearm must still comply with all other California laws regarding firearm ownership, possession, and transport of firearms or risk losing their firearms and imprisonment for simple technical violations of the law.
Assembly Bill 424 would remove the authority of a school district superintendent, his or her designee, or equivalent school authority to provide written permission for a person to possess a firearm within a school zone.
This is not the first attack on law-abiding citizens lawfully carrying their firearms in school zones. In 2015, AB 707 was signed into law which prohibited concealed carry permit holders from carrying and possession on K-12 and university grounds without written permission from the school authority.
Supporters of the bill left the discretion to the school authorities on who could possess firearms on campus because they felt the school authorities were in the best position to exercise that discretion. The question is – what have school authorities done to deserve to have this important decision-making power taken away from them? To our knowledge, there have been no incidents with persons lawfully carrying on school campuses.
It is obvious that AB 424 is not about making our schools safer, instead this is only about continuing the assault on the Second Amendment and law-abiding gun owners in the Golden State.

NEWS FROM THE STREETS–
Activist groups waging war on urban auto use under the guise of pedestrian and bicyclist advocacy have found a new hook for their campaign: the “level of service” measure used by traffic planners to describe how efficiently a road works.
Traffic engineers use manuals to compare the hourly volume on a road or through an intersection with its theoretical capacity to determine how many lanes are needed. The resulting measure is called “level of service” or LOS.
“Level of service” is sometimes described by the six letter grades “A” through “F.” This is a shorthand way of describing how much freedom of movement a car driver has on the road or through an intersection. Level “A” is completely unimpeded as to speed choice and lane-changing. At Level “C” a driver faces only slight restriction on movements. “D” is at the threshold of congestion, where only the slightest disruption will bring flow to a stop. “E” is stop-and-go movement, and “F” is totally clogged with long stops.
Level “C” is the planners’ target, for economic reasons. An urban road that operates at Level “A” all the time is ideal for motorists but probably overbuilt; “C” is felt to represent the best value for the money. One other variable that must be understood is how many hours a year the road operates below “C.” Often, 30 hours a year was the standard for “recreational” routes carrying vacation traffic. That is, one hour of congestion on 15 Friday and Sunday evenings in each direction. For commuter routes, the standard is 200 hours or, say, half an hour each morning and evening on 200 of 250 work days a year.
It is judged wasteful to build capacity to reduce congestion below these limits.
Now the anti-car left is waging war on LOS, as they do with the 85th-percentile speed. You will hear booing at public meetings from doctrinaire anti-car activists if you mention either phrase. They maintain that achieving Level “C” on city streets is unrealistic, and cities should settle for Level “F,” with evil cars ceding the right of way to all other users of the road.
LOS is a valid measure for the value of improvements to congested routes, or filling gaps in the road network. Time lost to delay is still crucially important to people. And levels of service can be calculated for autos, transit, pedestrians and bicycles.
When anti-car activists urge local officials to abandon highway level of service as a measure, be prepared to demand that motorists get appropriate value for their road-user fees.

Bob was sitting on the plane at Cleveland waiting to fly to Chicago, when a guy took the seat beside him. The guy was an emotional wreck, pale, hands shaking in fear.
“What’s the matter, afraid of flying?” Bob asked.
“No, it’s not that. I’ve been transferred to Chicago. The people are crazy there, right? Lots of shootings, gangs, race riots, drugs, poor schools, and the highest crime rate in the USA.”
Bob replied, “I’ve lived in Chicago all my life. It’s not as bad as the media says. Find a nice home, go to work, mind your own business, and enroll your kids in a nice private school. I’ve worked there for 14 years and never had the slightest trouble.”
The guy relaxed and stopped shaking and said, “Oh, thank you. I’ve been worried to death, but if you’ve lived and worked there all those years and say it’s OK, I’ll take your word for it. What do you do for a living?”

SPEAKING OF CHICAGO–
By Steven Dahlman
13-Apr-17 – The City of Chicago will install equipment to listen for noisy motorcycles along Lake Shore Drive if a bill approved by the Illinois House of Representatives is passed by the Senate.
HB2361 would allow the city to install a noise monitoring system, like one at O’Hare International Airport, to analyze vehicle noise 24 hours a day along Lake Shore Drive.
See the special report on Bikernet:
I don’t think this new ordinance has as much to do with sound levels, as it does with collecting fines for altered exhausts–ie., removing mufflers, aftermarket pipes, etc.
The existing noise ordinance is enforced by calling the State Police. With the focus on enforcing “modified exhausts” it becomes a local issue that Chicago PD can enforce locally–and easily; visually look (or just poke a stick in the exhaust pipe) to check if it has a muffler. Chicago also introduced a “muffler ordinance” during the last City Council meeting to raise the modified muffler fine from $100 to $1,000!
Just follow the money….

MORE ON NOISE NAZIS–
As you might imagine, we’re interested because what happens in other parts of the country are closely watched and eventually attempted here by those who want their rights enforced at the expense of others.
These “noise nazis” are becoming more coordinated across the country and while their active numbers are still tiny, they’re gaining observers.
Ironically, I think the majority of their “observers” are those they oppose, such as we, but there are still a growing number of followers.

All,
A.B.A.T.E. of Illinois is aware of this, has been in discussion with our legislators concerning it, and will continue to ensure this does not become something negative for motorcyclists. As written, this is NOT a motorcycle specific noise bill. It is a bill to monitor ALL NOISE on Lake Shore Drive in Chicago. The following will provide you with the text as introduced, the current section of the applicable law, and the language to be added by this bill to 625 ILCS 5/11-208.

MORE FROM THE GUN NUT FREEDOM COALITION– Bloomberg Reemerges to Shower Cash on Antigun Causes
SUPPORT NRA-ILA
In 2014, Billionaire Michael Bloomberg pledged $50 million to “take on the NRA.”
Three years later, America’s embrace of Second Amendment rights is as strong as ever, and pro-gun sentiments dominate both chambers of Congress, the White House, and the bulk of state legislatures and governor’s mansions.
A Politico Article published on Monday, however, reports the former New York City mayor is poised to throw bad money after good with another $25 million infusion of cash to help elect anti-gun politicians in the 2018 election cycle and fight passage of a federal concealed carry reciprocity bill.
Politico’s inaccurate description of what such a bill would do aptly illustrates how media mogul Bloomberg hopes to use the antigun press to promote his phony gun control message. “That measure,” the article claims, “would effectively loosen gun laws significantly by holding gun owners to the laws of their own state when carrying their weapons in other states, no matter how different the laws are in, for example, Texas versus New York.”
In fact, the pending concealed carry reciprocity bills would not change any state law. They would simply mean that if a Texan (to use Politico’s example) who was lawfully licensed in the Lone Star State were to travel to New York, his Texas license would have to be recognized as valid.
But the real issue for Bloomberg is not federalism or even public safety. Rather, as his Everytown’s John Feinblatt told Politico, it’s the fear that a national reciprocity law would “normalize carrying guns in public.”
News flash, Mr. Feinblatt. That ship has sailed.
America has already embraced the idea of carrying concealed handguns in public for self-defense as a matter of right. It’s the law in 42 U.S. states, and the trend since 1987 has been for states to increase the freedom to carry within their own borders and broaden recognition of nonresident permits.
You might even say the bearing of arms for self-defense was officially “normalized” with the ratification of the Second Amendment on Dec. 15, 1791.
Places like New York City are the true outliers. A more accurate description of what Bloomberg hopes to accomplish is to “normalize” New York City values across the rest of America.
But whatever can be said of the Big Apple, it does not represent the country at large. And Bloomberg’s unfamiliarity with – and contempt for – the rest of the country beyond his island habitat is precisely why he continues to fail in his bid to influence public opinion.
Yet however cartoonishly and maniacally controlling Bloomberg comes across to ordinary Americans, he is still a very, very wealthy man.
And money talks loudly in politics.
So we shouldn’t dismiss the threat of his ego or his riches when it comes to our rights.
Michael Bloomberg is one man with many billions. And we, the people of the NRA, are many millions with one goal: the protection of the right to keep and bear arms.
One vote at a time, one membership at a time, we must continue to secure our liberties and make sure Mr. Big City Bloomberg has nothing more to show for his efforts than tax write-offs and fawning editorials from the New York Times.
QUICK, HOLD THE BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRARY WIDE OPEN– As I was coming home and worrying about all the stuff going on in my life, my family’s lives, my friends lives, and what’s happening in Washington, Moscow, Ukraine, the Middle East, Hillary Clinton’s scandals, Jeb, Trump, Fox News, the downgrading of our military, the terrorists infiltrating our border, the illegals, the refugees, and how our country is rapidly losing its sanity and its Christianity, I saw a yard sign that said: NEED HELP? Next week I will bring you the first episode of the story of the King’s Chopper built by the masters of the Biker Build-Off series a few years back, including: Billy Lane, Cory Ness, and many of the great builders.
My grandson, Frankie brought a muralist to the Headquarters yesterday, Jules, of Jules Muck.com. She was working on a mural in downtown Long Beach. She’s cute and was full of insight on our mural effort. Can’t wait to get rolling.
Then Tom Seymour from Saddlemen stopped by and we hauled ass to Brat Style and studied Go’s bikes and paint by Deny 528. Amazing.
I worked on the sculpture most of yesterday and made progress. Jules also gave me some guidance. I’m trying goddammit.
Ride Free Forever,
