MORE GIRLS CANTINA SUNDAY POST for September 4, 2016

Hey,

I had a strange experience yesterday. I went to a shop in Long Beach to discuss my grandson’s Dyna and the owner’s project FXR. The FXR will be amazing and you will see the first teaser tech next week.

This is California and the owner can no longer buy performance parts from many companies. He is forced to go the black market route. I don’t want to be specific, because someone evil may be reading this.

This problem may hit the whole country shortly and the auto industry will feel the same pain. I tried to work with SEMA years ago and they turned me down. See the first comment from the boss of the MRF. It scares the shit outta me. I looked into a shop run by very good folks for a long time and thought, “It might not be here next year.”

Let’s hit the news. I’ll deliver more reports next week.

A QUESTION FOR THE BOSS OF THE MOTORCYCLE RIDERS FOUNDATION–
You mentioned a fine for hitting a motorcyclists. I noticed in the AMA news two piece from different states. One state called for a $300 fine for injuring or killing a pedestrian or motorcyclist. The other state called for life in prison. I grew up thinking that if I hit anyone while driving I would be accused of manslaughter or attempted manslaughter.

What’s the deal? Is it different in every state?

The question of the day: Can we, or anyone stand up to the EPA? Are we
living through another McCarthy era?

–Bandit

Right of way violations are handled drastically differently state to state, we encourage enhanced ROW violation penalties and work with each
SMRO according to their thoughts on it.

Right now EPA is hiding behind what they say is just following direction by Congress, but those of us in the game clearly understand this Obama led, could get worse after the election, sadly unless Congress can be encouraged to cut their purse strings.

I expect their over-reach to continue and become even more aggressive, the Harley fine for tuner install was coming, a top official at EPA said not long ago a goal of
theirs was to bring a major motorcycle manufacturer down, now we all
know this is not about emissions but controlling sound

EPA funding definitely on our upcoming 2017 agenda.

IRON ORDER NEWS, Video Proves State Attorney’s Report Based On Lies–
The Iron Order Motorcycle Club has been involved in a laundry list of confrontations around the country with other motorcycle clubs that have resulted in violence or death. The Iron Order intentionally provokes conflicts with traditional motorcycle clubs hiding behind the cloak of LEO members and connections with law enforcement. Because of this connection, Iron Order members have not been held accountable for any of the violence or killings that they have been involved in.

One of the most blatant examples involves the murder of Zachariah Tipton on the evening of June 26, 2014 in Jacksonville Beach, Florida. This story disappeared from the mainstream when Florida State Attorney Angela Corey refused to charge Iron Order prospect Kristopher Stone after he shot and killed Black Pistons patch holder Zachariah Tipton in Jacksonville Beach.

Corey outrageously ruled the killing was justifiable homicide even though the Iron Order member shot the unarmed Black Pistons motorcycle club member in the right temple while only a few feet apart. The Summary of Facts in the State Attorney’s Review concluding the killing was justifiable is fraught with inaccuracies and blatant misrepresentations. Video evidence is even manipulated to validate these fraudulent claims.

Although the chance of Zachariah receiving justice posthumously is small, the truth deserves to be heard in hopes that the next person murdered by the Iron Order will not go unpunished. This is the first part in a Motorcycle Profiling Project series analyzing the glaring discrepancies between the State Attorney’s review and uncut video footage. Zachariah Tipton was murdered by a prospect of the Iron Order.

Unraveling the State Attorney’s discriminatory and biased review should make it obvious to anyone with their eyes open that this was an unjustified homicide at the hands of the law enforcement friendly Iron Order.

The Short Story

According to the State Attorney’s review, on June 26, 2014, at Nippers Beach Grill located in Jacksonville Beach, an altercation between two members of the Black Pistons Motorcycle Club (Zachariah Tipton and an unidentified member) and Iron Order prospective member Kristopher Stone. During the altercation, Stone shot and killed Tipton.

The State Attorney Frames The Black Pistons As Heartless Gangsters Based On A Fabricated Lie.

The State Attorney contends that Black Piston members fled the scene after Zachariah was shot and no Black Pistons attempted to render aid.

Depicting Black Piston members fleeing the scene and making no attempt to render aid is an attempt to make the Black Pistons look heartless and sociopathic. This inaccurate framing of the incident paints a prejudicial picture of the Black Pistons implying that they have no honor, that they left one of their own behind because a crime was committed. AND IT’S ALL A LIE.

And doesn’t such a glaring lie bring into question every statement of fact or the general competence and/ or motivations of the State Attorney and the Jacksonville Beach PD? Logic says that it does. One lie always leads to another…

And in the case of Zachariah Tipton, this is just the tip of the iceberg…

To be continued…

Harley-Davidson SUPPORTS INTERMOT Customized–
Harley-Davidson has stepped up to the plate for INTERMOT this year. The company has massively increased the size of its usual booth and added a second one in the INTERMOT Customized Hall (Hall 10) adjacent to the AMD World Championship of Custom Bike Building.

Their mission is to showcase their ‘Dark Custom’ program as a specific “sub-brand” dedicated to the “riders who are looking for the unique ‘Reduced to the Max’ stripped down contemporary look of a platform that is built for customizing,” according to Daniel Becker, the Marketing Project Manager for the Dark Custom program at Harley-Davidson GmbH.

Versatility of their ‘Dark Custom’ Street, Sportster and Dyna platforms (adjacent to the AMD World Championship of Custom Bike Building in Hall 10) will showcase dealer customized examples from this year’s ‘Custom Kings’ contest as well as the “Reduced to the Max” stock platforms

The 240 sq m (2,580 sq ft) booth will showcase all seven models of Harley’s current ‘Dark Custom’ line-up – the 750 Street, 883 Iron, ‘48’ and new Roadster Sportsters, plus the ‘Dark Custom’ Street Bob, Fat Bob and recently launched Low Rider S Dynas.

Additionally, the booth will showcase examples from this year’s ‘Custom Kings’ dealer competition in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

This year’s chosen platform for the contest was the Sportster Iron, with a customizing budget set at around € 4.000,00 (US$4,500,) half of which had to be spent on product from Harley’s own ‘Dark Custom’ P&A offer, the other half could either be factory P&A or aftermarket parts and accessories.

“The booth design process has been fun,” says Daniel. “Because our range is so broad, it isn’t often that we are able to dedicate such a large space to a specific platform, to a specific look and feel. I guess “shabby chic” might be one way of describing the look we are presenting – personally I prefer to think of it simply as just plain “cool”.

Something that is on the cutting-edge of current consumer taste, especially among the new generation of riders that we are attracting – riders who will be an important part of the industry’s future, and riders who have a very new series of attitudes to the motorcycle ownership and riding experience.

“With our ‘Dark Customs’ we think we are “with them” when it comes to meeting those expectations and able to provide the kind of versatile yet contemporary design ethos they are looking for.

“If our sales in Europe are anything to go by, we do appear to be right in the “sweet spot” with the ‘Dark Customs’, and the results our dealers have achieved in this year’s ‘Custom Kings’ competition show that our dealers understand what riders are looking for.”

VANCE & HINES RaceShop Components–

RaceShop Components program kicked-off with valves and spring kits for Twin Cam engines.

The Santa Fe Springs, California, and Indianapolis based manufacturer has since released more additions to the range – a range that sees the market-leading exhaust manufacturer leveraging founder Byron Hines’ and Terry Vance’s race credentials and expertise to produce a line of components for street bikes that owes its pedigree to their decades of success on the drag strip.

“Our high performance products are manufactured with state-of-the-art equipment, utilizing stringent quality control procedures to significantly improve all components for prolonged durability and reliability,” says VP of Sales & Marketing John Potts.

“Whether building a street performance engine or a drag motor, Vance & Hines engine components are drop-in upgrades providing needed stability while reducing premature wear. All components are made to exacting tolerances ensuring maximized performance.”

The additions include these high performance “Bolt-In” camshafts for 2006 – 2016 Dyna, 2007 – 2016 Softail and 2007 – 2016 Touring models. Designed with a silent ramp profile, which is said to eliminate valvetrain noise, they ship with high performance inner cam bearings and a Cometic gasket set.

Their high performance pushrods are made from hardened and tempered 4130 Chromoly. They are designed for high-stress and extreme spring pressures (7/16″ x 0.095″ single taper 5/16″ x 24 TPI) and feature “witness markings” for quick install and precise adjustment.

Vance & Hines high performance ‘Beehive’ style spring kits are designed with “the latest advancements in valve spring technology. Our springs are nano-peened, polished and 100% inspected through load testing.

“They exceed stringent quality standards, offering superior valve stability at high rpm range, are the premium choice for your performance upgrade and “drop-in” ready. No machining of heads is required.”
The retainers are made from 4140 Chromoly steel that has been heat-treated and processed to maintain high strength and lightweight design; the keepers are type FMOD7 with 7-degree lock angle, have triple radius groove and standard install height.

Equipped with Chromoly spring bases, the kit comes with Viton seals designed for maximum retention of elastic properties along with “excellent resistance to fluids, heat and aging.” Fitment is for 2005-2016 Twin Cams, 2004-2016 XL Sportsters and 2009-2013 XR Sportsters.

RaceShop forged 2618 aluminum high performance pistons feature Moly coated piston skirts, high-strength, lightweight Chromoly wrist pin, and phosphate coating to reduce micro-welding and pin galling. Forced pin oiling prevents scuffing at start-up and precision-machined ring grooves prevent ring flutter and positive ring seal. The kit includes two pistons, wrist pin, ring set and pin locks.

They are available as Big Bore 107” pistons for 2007-2016 Dynas and 2007-2016 Touring and Softail models; 1999-2006 Dyna and Touring models and 2000-2006 Softails equipped with 4-3/8? flywheels.

Their high performance hydraulic lifters are described as having a tighter inner diameter grind for substantial lower leak down; they feature direct lubrication to axle and roller needle bearings and allow the use of higher spring pressure and increased rpm capability. Available for 1999-2016 Twin Cams, 2000-2016 XL and 2009-2013 XR Sportsters.

RaceShop high performance chrome coated valves are precision CNC-machined from a stainless one piece forging for higher strength and durability. The high grade allows the design to withstand high heat and maintain roundness. They feature a micro-polished stem for smoother finish and less friction, resulting in improved performance and multi-angle back cuts for enhanced flow.

They have a 7mm stem, and Vance & Hines say these are the first to market to introduce a V-twin hollow stem; intake valve is 1.900” and 2.000”, and they are an estimated 4 grams lighter than OE valves, making them ideal for higher revving engines, according to the company. An Inconel 1.630” exhaust valve is also available for extreme exhaust temperatures.

These high performance valve and spring sets include two valves with springs, retainers, spring bases, keepers and Viton valve seals. Available for 2005 – 2016 Twin Cams.

Vance & Hines has also introduced a range of high performance, fully synthetic lubricants. Their 5W30 primary lubricant is designed to maximize clutch performance and reduce wear while providing smooth operation; their 75W140 transmission fluid is said to be non-corrosive, able to handle severe load and provide maximum protection for gears.

MORE EPA ATTACKS–

Hosed again? The EPA is reviving the 4-gallon minimum fuel-purchase policy
Contact your senators and representative!

Take Action!

We thought we had put this issue to bed in 2012. But it appears that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is still subjecting motorcyclists to a 4-gallon minimum fuel purchase at blender pumps that dispense both E10 and E15.

As part of its E15 Misfueling Mitigation Program, the EPA is allowing retailers to sell fuel with 10 percent ethanol from the same pump used for blends of 15 percent ethanol. This creates a problem for motorcyclists, who could wind up with as much as a quart of E15 in their tanks even if they select the proper grade of fuel.

And the ethanol lobby is promoting this approach.

In its “E15 & Flex Fuel Retailer Roadmap” for fuel retailers, a pro-ethanol group offers this advice:

“E15 can be sold on the same hose with gasoline (E0 to E10) using this configuration: Require a minimum purchase of four gallons and apply a label stating ‘Minimum Fueling Volume 4 Gallons. Dispensing Less May Violate Federal Law.’” (P. 80, emphasis added).

The AMA spotted this minimum-purchase policy in 2012 and, with the voices of thousands of motorcyclists, made enough noise that the EPA backed away from it. You can read about that battle here.

Since the average fuel tank for motorcycles holds less than 4 gallons, riders are unable to buy the required minimum of 4 gallons. And, even motorcycles with larger tanks could end up with a blend with more than 10 percent ethanol. Or, end up fueling what you think is safe fuel and end up with something much worse! Check out what some motorists experienced in Oklahoma recently.

We thought common sense prevailed at the EPA when on Dec. 17, 2012, the agency informed the AMA it had reversed its decision to require the 4-gallon minimum purchase.

After the AMA read the pro-ethanol group’s “roadmap,” we immediately sent a letter to the EPA and contacted the EPA public relations office for clarification. The agency has not yet responded to our letter. But the media inquiry prompted a response.

According to an EPA spokesperson:

Dispensing E10 in volumes less than 4 gallons from a pump that supplies E10 only is absolutely NOT a violation.

The excerpted portion you highlighted should refer only to the less than 1% of gas stations that have gasoline pumps that that dispense BOTH E10 and E15 from a single hose or nozzle.

The 4 gallon fueling minimum for E10 is only required for these “co-dispensing pumps” and is there to protect consumers. The 4 gallon minimum ensures that engines, that are not allowed to use E15 (like those in motorcycles) do not inadvertently get too much ethanol in the tank. To comply with EPA regulations, most stations with co-dispensing pumps simply put up a sign that says the co-dispensing pump may only be used for passenger vehicles and separately offer a dedicated E10 pump for motorcycles and other engines that cannot use E15.

Motorcyclists or other types of vehicles and engines that require E10 in volumes of less than 4 gallons should not have a problem finding E10 in any volume they need.

Apparently, common sense comes only in fleeting moments—and, once again, motorcyclists end up getting hosed from an ill-conceived program created by unelected Washington bureaucrats.

Congress and the EPA are not protecting you. Ethanol producers and their lobbyists don’t care about the danger of inadvertently misfueling your motorcycle with E15. And confusing labels at the pump don’t get the message across.

The key takeaway for motorcyclists is this: If you pull up to a fuel pump that offers E10 and E15, play it safe and look for the legally required pump that only dispenses E10. If you have an older or vintage bike, you need E0 – fuel with no ethanol.

As motorcyclists, we have to watch out for each other and get the word out: E15 fuel is unsafe and we’ve got to keep it out of our tanks.

Please send a prewritten comment to your senators and representative by clicking on the “Take Action” link.

Now more than ever, it is crucial that you and your riding friends become members of the AMA to help protect our riding freedoms. More members mean more clout against the opponents of motorcycling. That support will help fight for your rights – on the road, trail, racetrack, and in the halls of government. If you are a motorcycle rider, join the AMA at www.americanmotorcyclist.com/membership/join.

AUSTRALIAN CLUB REPORTS–
More draconian laws on Aussie bikers.

In the Australian state of Queensland police will be able to keep using the anti-biker VLAD laws for another two years, Police Minister Bill Byrne has revealed. Key aspects of the Labor government’s new organized crime laws covering bikers publicly associating and clubhouses will not come into force until 2018,
Byrne told a media conference at Gold Coast police headquarters today.

He said there would be a two-year “transitional period” to allow new consorting and clubhouse laws to become “fully operational and effective”. Byrne said existing clubhouses would remain closed but admitted new ones could open in the meantime.

Byrne said current anti-association laws would be replaced by consorting laws similar to those in NSW, which had survived a High Court challenge. The laws will make it an offence for a person who has received at least one warning to consort on two occasions with two others who have convictions for serious indictable offences.

Byrne said the consorting laws would not apply to juveniles. Existing blanket bans on clubhouses will be scrapped and replaced by new “restricted premises” laws. Police will need evidence of unlawful or disorderly conduct and a court order to close down clubhouses. “Clubhouses that are currently closed will remain closed,’’ Byrne said. “It’s possible someone may try and stand up a (new) clubhouse but it will be a very, very small window of opportunity before the full effects of this bill will be brought to bear.’’

Under the new laws, courts would also be able to issue motorcycle groups with fortification removal orders to stop them fortifying their clubhouses to stymie police access. He said police would be able to issue public safety orders to prevent bikers gatherings. The orders would prevent people from going to an area, premises or event if they were considered a serious risk to public safety.

Byrne said police could issue the orders for up to seven days, with longer orders imposed only by courts. “Appeal rights will exist for any orders over 72 hours,’’ he said. The ban on club colours will be extended from only licensed premises, to ALL public places and will include ‘biker paraphernalia’ as well as clothing. Byrne said the ban would not include club tattoos, and penalties for wearing club colours or ‘paraphernalia’ in licensed premises would be reduced in line with the Liquor Act.

Mandatory sentencing for serious organized crime is being retained but maximum extra jail terms slashed from 25 years to seven years. Byrne said courts would also be able to issue organized crime control orders to convicted criminals for future criminal activity.

The previous tattoo industry laws preventing ‘criminals’ from being involved in tattoo parlors are also being retained by the Labor Government. Byrne said any suggestion that bikers would be given a “free ride” under the new laws were “completely and utterly false.”

BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRARY OPEN ON SUNDAYS–
A guy is driving in rural Alabama and he sees a sign in front of a tired old house with lots of deferred maintenance: ‘Talking Dog For Sale ‘

He knocks and the owner appears and tells him the dog is in the backyard.

The guy goes into the backyard and sees a nice looking Labrador retriever sitting there.

‘You talk?’ he asks.

‘Yep,’ the Lab replies.

After the guy recovers from the shock of hearing a dog talk, he says ‘So, what’s your story?’

The Lab looks up and says, ‘Well, I discovered that I could talk when I was pretty young. I wanted to help the government, so… I told the CIA.

In no time at all they had me jetting from country to country, sitting in rooms with spies and world leaders, because no one figured a dog would be eavesdropping.’

‘I was one of their most valuable spies for eight years running…

But the jetting around really tired me out, and I knew I wasn’t getting any younger so I decided to settle down. I signed up for a job at the airport to do some undercover security, wandering near suspicious characters and listening in.

I uncovered some incredible dealings and was awarded a batch of medals.’

‘I got married, had a mess of puppies, and now I’m just retired.’

Image removed by sender. image

The guy is amazed. He goes back in and asks the owner what he wants for the dog.

‘Ten dollars,’ the guy says.

‘Ten dollars? That dog is amazing! Why on earth are you selling him so cheap?’

‘Because he lies more than Hillary……… He’s never been out of the back yard!!’

INTERNATIONAL GUN NUT REPORT–
Recent UN Arms Trade Treaty Conference Marks Dangerous Shift in U.S. Policy

August 22 marked the opening date of the week-long Second Conference of States Parties to the Arms Trade Treaty in Geneva, Switzerland. It also marked a clear shift in U.S. strategy for dealing with this international gun control effort.

Historically, UN meetings open with flowery remarks welcoming States Parties and others in attendance to the beginning of a week of discussions. This year that was not the case. The “good will message” everyone expected was instead an all-out attack on the U.S.

Rather than fulfill her obligation of providing a message of good will, Mexico’s Secretary of Foreign Affairs H.E. Claudia Ruiz Massieu used her statement to inform the 109 states, 12 organizations, and 58 NGO’s in attendance that Mexico’s crime problems are the direct result of firearms illegally crossing their northern border.

Seemingly taking her que from Barack Obama’s erroneous assertion that it is “easier for you to buy a handgun and clips than it is for you to buy a fresh vegetable,” Massieu boldly proclaimed that in America “it is easier to acquire a firearm than a liter of milk or a box of cereal.” Massieu continued to capitalize on her moment in the spotlight by praising “the tenacious and sincere efforts of President Barrack Obama to establish administrative measures to strengthen controls on the possession and sale of weapons” and calling on the U.S. Congress to “ban the sale of assault weapons.”

As Massieu continued with the “good will,” other nations in the room stared at the U.S. delegation in anticipation of their response, especially to Mexico’s assertion that “70%” of the firearms used to commit crimes in Mexico are “related to a buyer or distributor in the United States.” Regrettably, the eight person U.S. delegation sat idly by in what can only be viewed as a shift in policy towards the Arms Trade Treaty.

Had the U.S. been unaware of the potential for such an attack, one might have attributed that the failure to adequately respond was a result of jet lag, but sources have confirmed to NRA that this was not the case. While it remains unclear if a copy of the speech was provided to the U.S. delegation, it has been confirmed that Mexico notified the U.S. that Massieu would be addressing U.S. firearms policies in her remarks.

Even more concerning is the tone this inaction set for the remainder of the meeting. The previously unwavering U.S. delegation conceded through silence that Mexico had their facts and figures correct; a premise not lost on many of the delegations in attendance, who were overheard stating just that.

Moreover, American gun owners’ fears were confirmed. Previously, the U.S. attended ATT meetings as the proverbial adult in the room, ensuring treaty negotiations did not devolve any further. Conversely, at this latest meeting, the U.S. offered support and assurances that the country would ratify the ATT at the first available opportunity.

Of further significance is the U.S. delegation’s refusal to recognize a precedent-setting moment in the discussions. During debate over the ATT’s Voluntary Trust Fund, a bank of voluntary contributions with the purported purpose of assisting “requesting States Parties requiring international assistance to implement th[e] [ATT],” the U.S. agreed and supported a newly-developed reading of the language. This interpretation would allow the Voluntary Trust’s funds to be distributed to not only States Parties, but also to nations who have not yet ratified, let alone signed the ATT.

While seemingly insignificant, this radical reading of the ATT’s text established a dangerous precedent. Many have argued that gun owners’ fears over the ATT are exaggerated, making note of Article 20’s limitation on amendments to the treaty for the first six years after the ATT has entered force. However, as this new interpretation of the ATT’s clear and unambiguous language demonstrated, the need for formal amendments is moot. There is no need to wait six years to amend language that says “up” when it can be interpreted to read “down.”

The U.S. delegation should work to rectify its recent missteps at the next general meeting on the ATT, The Third Conference of States Parties to the Arms Trade Treaty.

INDIAN MOTORCYCLE PROUDLY SPONSORS SANTA ROSA SHORT TRACK DOUBLE HEADER AND SUPERHOOLIGAN RACING ON SEPTEMBER 24

MINNEAPOLIS — Indian Motorcycle, America’s first motorcycle company, today announced it is sponsoring the Pro/Am Hooligan and RSD SuperHooligan races during an action-packed AMA Finale weekend in Santa Rosa, California on Sept 24.

In all, nine classes will compete in a day of handlebar-to-handlebar action beginning at 4:30 pm PDT at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds in the Chris Beck Arena. Participating in the SuperHooligan race class will be Roland Sands as well as various special guests.

Roland and his team from Roland Sands Design (RSD) will be racing their custom Indian® Scout® Sixty dirt track racers, which made their racing debut at the “Superprestigio of the Americas” in Las Vegas in 2015.

The RSD SuperHooligan class will be part of the schedule at the Santa Rosa half-mile track, with tickets and more information about the full weekend of activity available at http://santarosamile.com/. Tickets for Saturday’s shenanigans are available at https://www.showclix.com/events/22716. Racers interested in signing up for the SuperHooligan class can register here.

“Over the last year we’ve stepped up to the plate as a key sponsor of RSD SuperHooligan events across the country to grow this action-packed, entertaining and uniquely accessible sport,” said Reid Wilson, Director of Marketing for Indian Motorcycle. “The popularity of the SuperHooligan class and the ease with which our Scout and Scout Sixty models can be transformed into highly competitive racers has helped fuel our involvement.

We look forward to a full weekend of entertainment, fun and awesome racing, knowing that the SuperHooligan class will clearly be one of the highlights.”

NEXT WEEK WILL ROCK—
Twice yesterday someone commented on how fast the year peeled by. It’s almost October.

Next week, a couple of Vietnam Veterans including myself are being interviewed at the Bikernet Headquarters by Ian Cross for a PBS documentary on changing times. Hang on.

I’ll scramble on a tech for Evos Forever with Ray’s cross-country Softail rebuilt by Dr. Willie. I will also kick off a series of techs from Bennett’s Performance on his ultimate Moto FXR build.

And somewhere at the crack of dawn I will scribble notes about my ride home on my 5-Ball 2014 Indian. Maybe I shouldn’t write the Indian story. They couldn’t help Vicki Sanfelipo with her Cannonball support effort and coverage of the Cannonball on Bikernet. She is basically riding the Red Cross support bike behind the riders to be there immediately if there is a problem. Why the hell wouldn’t they support her?

We have two features coming, one from Michael Lichter and another Moto FXR shot by Peter Linney.

Ray wheeler is at the Colorado mile as I write this. “My bike is not happy with the tune,” Ray said. “I did a 124 mph pass and that’s it. I’m headed toward the coast.”

We will bring you more reports on his S&S Twin Cam monster in the near future.

We will kick ass this week.

Ride Free forever!
