A QUIET, SORTA, BIKERNET SUNDAY POST for July 10, 2016

Hey,

This is a strange one. I try to reflect on something going on in our lives or within the industry. This time I’m on the fence.

Actually, Commander Edge is on his way here, riding cross-country with his son to the Bikernet Headquarters. They will park their bikes in the headquarters and fly to Hawaii.

I have tremendous respect for Edge, a retired Army intelligence officer who is the mastermind behind the Smoke Out, in North Carolina. He is also a highly involved Catholic, so he’s a man of varied insights.

I’ll be curious of his take on the Dallas shootings. It points us in so many directions. In a sense the cops mowed down bikers recently in Waco, Texas, and now a citizen mows down cops in Dallas, during a protest against police violence. Wow.

What to make of it all? Let’s hit the news.

THE REDHEADED CODE–

Heard this saying the other day and thought about you! LOL

A Rusty Roof, Damp Cellar refers to a girl with red hair.

If a house has a rusty roof, it is common for the cellar to be wet or damp. Hence, if a girl has a head of red hair, it is assumed that her genitalia will be marginally moist at the least.

TATTOOS IN THE MILITARY–

SOUTH CHINA SEA (July 5, 2016) Aviation Boatswain’s Mate (Handling) 3rd Class (AW/SW) Sarah Atiyyat, from Edison, New Jersey, poses for a photo in the hangar bay of the Navy’s only forward-deployed aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76).

Atiyyat is one of many Sailors who has dedicated time and skin to the artwork of tattoos. According to the Pew Research Center, more than 35 percent of American adults between 18 and 25 years old have at least one tattoo. “Tattoos do not define our work ethic,” said Atiyyat. “It’s a beautiful form of art and one of the few ways of expressing ourselves in the military.”

Ronald Reagan, the Carrier Strike Group Five (CSG 5) flagship, is on patrol in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of responsibility supporting security and stability in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region. (U.S. Navy photo by Mass Communication Specialist 3rd Class Ryan McFarlane/Released)

“Why Being There Matters”

On our planet, more than 70 percent of which is covered by water, being there means having the ability to act from the sea.

The Navy is uniquely positioned to be there; the world’s oceans give the Navy the power to protect America’s interests anywhere, and at any time.

Your Navy protects and defends America on the world’s oceans. Navy ships, submarines, aircraft and, most importantly, tens of thousands of America’s finest young men and women are deployed around the world doing just that. They are there now. They will be there when we are sleeping tonight. They will be there every Saturday, Sunday and holiday this year. They are there around the clock, far from our shores, defending America at all times.

Thank you very much for your support of the men and women in U.S. Navy, deployed around the clock and ready to protect and defend America on the world’s oceans.

QUICK, OPEN THE BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRARY ON SUNDAY–

The little boy had been looking out of the window. He turned to his mother and asked,”If big dogs have baby dogs, and big cats have baby cats, why don’t big planes have baby planes?”

The mother couldn’t think of an answer. She told her son to ask the flight attendant.

The boy went down the aisle and asked the flight attendant, “If big dogs have baby dogs, and big cats have baby cats, why don’t big planes have baby planes?”

The busy flight attendant smiled and asked the boy, “Did your mother tell you to ask me that?”

The boy replied, “Yes, she did.

“Well”, said the flight attendant, “you tell your mother that there are no baby planes, because Southwest always pulls out on time. Have your mother explain that to you.”

BANDIT SUPPORTS 5-BALL LEATHERS—
A couple of old friends came to me at a show and asked if they could change their leather name to 5-Ball Racing Leathers. We’ve been rolling ever since.

I get a kick out of this line. It’s something real and biker folks get excited when they smell leather. Yes, out shit is made overseas, but the designs are all USA, all the new shit we add to them including our media pockets in the back are all USA designed, and the team overseas is cool. They build quality garment and we enjoy working with them and sharing the savings with you.

There’s one more thing. We have a lot of design flexibility and Jeremiah works with local clubs and organization to design big special orders of vests just for them. Don’t hesitate to reach out for something different or custom.

MOTORCYCLE RIDERS FOUNDATION MEMBERSHIP DRIVE–
In ABATE of North Idaho. we have an “at large” category and its called “state” affiliation and they are “full members with all rights and patches of assigned members.

This includes all members who choose not to or who geographically unable to attach to or attend chapter activities. (They may choose just to pay dues and make a financial contribution but not get involved.) They are included in all communications are are represented by the executive Board of the ABATE. Often times those individuals do not participate in the efforts of the organization, for whatever reason, beyond their financial contribution to motorcyclist’s rights.

We are grateful for any of their efforts no matter how benign. Any issues of those members are brought up for discussion at the state meetings by a state officer rather than a “chapter” officer who is on the BOD.

As an example, I am a member of ICMS of which all members are “at large” and I am 450 miles away unable to attend activities physically but am able to stay current electronically.

MEANWHILE IN CONNECTICUT–
Many years ago, CMT/ABATE established an At-Large Charter for those who wished to be members but did not want to “attach” to any local charter.

On our membership application, anyone can sign up with any charter they choose, not necessarily the one nearest to their home address. If someone signs up from out of state or out of the country, usually they will sign up with the charter of the person who has asked them to join. If no charter is indicated, they will be assigned to “At-Large”.

We now have an initiative for people to get one year free membership when they attend a CMT/ABATE event. They get a newsletter by email, and if they want a CMT/ABATE vest patch or anything other than a membership card, they pay for it. They are assigned to the charter nearest their home address.

So, this is beginning to muddy the waters, and because we have had charters to fold, those members have gone into the At-Large category and there are starting to be too many individuals who are not attached to any local group at all, and we are missing out on their participation. There is an At-Large Director, but the duties of that person are not very stringent, so it is up to that individual to work the list or not.

Anyway, the questions are:
What considerations does your SMRO make for out of state/out-of-country members?
Do you have an “At-Large” or similar category for individuals who are not near a local group or do not wish to be included in a local group? If so, how do you integrate those people into the organization and its activities and efforts?

BIKERNET UNIVERSITY WEEKEND VOCABULARY LESSON—

VELLEITY: vuh-LEE-i-tee

noun
1. a mere wish, unaccompanied by an effort to obtain it.

2. volition in its weakest form.

Quotes
I wanted to believe Ed was free of contradictions, I wanted to believe in his massive stolidity as in a state towards which I could slumber halfheartedly should the velleity arise.
— Michael Brodsky, Detour, 2003

Origin of velleity

Velleity came to English from the New Latin velleitas, which ultimately finds its roots in the Latin velle meaning “to wish.” It entered English in the early 1600s.

THE BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRARY IS STILL OPEN–

A rancher dies and leaves everything to his wife. She was a very good-looking woman and determined to keep the ranch, but knew very little about ranching, so she decided to place an ad in the newspaper for a ranch hand.

Two cowboys applied for the job. One was gay and the other a drunk. She thought long and hard about it, and when no one else applied she decided to hire the gay guy, figuring it would be safer to have him around the house than the drunk.

He proved to be a hard worker who put in long hours every day and knew a lot about ranching.

For weeks, the two of them worked, and the ranch was doing very well. Then one day, the rancher’s widow said to the hired hand, “You have done a really good job, and the ranch looks great. You should go into town and kick up your heels.” The hired hand readily agreed and went into town one Saturday night.

One o’clock came, however, and he didn’t return. Two o’clock and no hired hand.

Finally he returned a round two-thirty, and upon entering the room, he found the rancher’s widow sitting by the fireplace with a glass of wine, waiting for him. She quietly called him over to her..

“Unbutton my blouse and take it off,” she said. Trembling, he did as she directed.

“Now take off my boots.”

He did as she asked, ever so slowly..

“Now take off my socks.”

He removed each gently and placed them neatly by her boots.

“Now take off my skirt.”

He slowly unbuttoned it, constantly watching her eyes in the fire light.

“Now take off my bra..”

Again, with trembling hands, he did as he was told and dropped it to the floor.

Then she looked at him and said, “If you ever wear my clothes into town again, you’re fired.”

THE KAWASAKI NEBRASKA STORY–
Oh, Nebraska!

Kawasaki’s wide-eyed performance is legendary, but an equally important form of innovation was the Lincoln, Nebraska assembly plant that opened in 1974. The plant was groundbreaking on several fronts, primarily as the first assembly plant in America for a Japanese motorcycle manufacturer. In subsequent decades, several other Japanese automotive and motorcycle manufacturers would follow Kawasaki’s lead.

The reasons for the creation of the Lincoln plant were both complex and important. First, in 1971 a devaluation of the US dollar substantially raised the prices of Japanese products. Second, a 10% import tariff meant to protect American products would likewise boost the price of Japanese imports.

Third, Kawasaki needed to expand production capacity to meet growing retail demand. Finally, Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. (KHI) wanted to shorten the supply line between Kawasaki Motors Corp., U.S.A. (KMC) and its dealers. Clearly, the Nebraska facility would be a win-win for everyone. But first it would have to get built.

Envisioned by KMC President Yoji “George” Hamawaki, plans for a facility in Nebraska were set into motion, with a large industrial building and many acres of adjacent land. Production finally commenced on the morning of January 22, 1975, and the first vehicle off the assembly line was a royal blue KZ400 parallel twin motorcycle. Gifted to Nebraska governor James Exon, it represented both the first Kawasaki vehicle and the first Japanese vehicle produced in the United States. The KZ400 was also distinguished as the first belt-drive production bike.

Kawasaki Motors Manufacturing Corp., U.S.A. (KMM) was incorporated in 1981 and assumed control of the Lincoln facility. Since then, KMM has expanded the scope of its operations not only with respect to Kawasaki powersports products, but robotic equipment assembly and rail car assembly as well.

Known informally as the Kawasaki Production System, a “just-in-time” manufacturing process brings components together exactly when needed to maximize efficiency, reducing delays and overstock in the process.

How successful is KMM after nearly four decades? Very. Since its inception in 1974, the KMM plant has grown from 286,000 sq. ft. to almost 2.1 million sq. ft. today – a sevenfold increase – while employing over 1,900 workers. And that’s how they do it in Nebraska.

SOME THOUGHTS REGARDING THIS WEEK–
Wow,

It’s the government who started the war in Iraq

It’s the government who started the war in Afghanistan.

It’s the government who hires and trains cops who kill innocent kids.

It’s the government who passed mandatory health care.

It’s the government who can’t pass tort reform.

It’s the government who started the war on drugs.

It’s the government who started the TSA.

It’s the government who started the Fed and then doesn’t listen to them

It’s the government who starts agencies and then can’t control them.

It’s the government, initially designed to protect our freedoms, and now they ignore them and want to start more agencies to take more freedoms away. The game is broken. They’ve learned how to twist the program. The parties don’t represent the people. They represent their party.

The weapons need to be taken away from the government, both figuratively and actually. The real death toll was the responsibility of the government. We don’t need more gun laws, we need to fix the government.

I’m an Iraqi vet with two tours in Iraq and I saw your trike and wondered how much they cost? I have nerve issues and traumatic brain injury, so my pheriphal vision is messed up and can’t ride a two wheels.

Do you offer financing if they are expensive?

2. Older Slang. a decisive reply, argument, etc.
Quotes
And every second or two there’d come a glare that lit up the whitecaps for half a mile around, and you’d see the islands looking dusty through the rain, and the trees thrashing around in the wind; then comes a h-whack!–bum! bum! bumble-umble-um-bum-bum-bum-bum–and the thunder would go rumbling and grumbling away, and quit–and then rip comes another flash and another sockdolager.

There is a huge rock near a gravel pit on Hwy. 25 in rural Iowa.

For generations, kids have painted slogans, names, and obscenities on this rock, changing its character many times.

It’s quite an impressive sight.

KING DEAL OF THE WEEKEND–
I’ve attached some pictures of the bike, take a look and please let me know ASAP if you are still interested.

It belonged to my husband. He died in Afghanistan when a military helicopter was shot down. Richard was an addicted biker and babied it very carefully. It’s hard for me to let it go but the family convinced me that this is the only way I can pass this huge loss…I’m trying to get away of all the things that remembers me of him…

it’s very hard but this is the life…a b***h…I’m trying to accept this situation and to get over it.

I’m in Honolulu, Hawaii due to my job (I’m an Air Force MSgt. too) and I have the bike here with me. My husband left it here before leaving in Afghanistan so all the maintenance could be performed on time.

I can deliver it to your shipping address (I’ll pay for the shipping and insurance fees) and I’ll agree to let you test and inspect it for 5 days just to be sure. In these 5 days you’ll test the conditions of the bike. If something won’t be like you expected to be you can return it without any expense.

All the paperwork will come with the bike.

I’ll deliver it through our Air Force affiliated shipping company so the costs will be ok for me+they will take care of everything (title transfer, insurance, paperwork, etc…). Also a refund policy will be included so, as I’ve said, you’ll have the possibility to return it if you consider so but I really don’t think this will happen because the bike is in great shape.

The bike was listed also on eBay Classifieds Ads so the sale/payment will go through eBay. In this way both of us will have the required assurance that the deal will take place well. Once you’ll agree with the purchase I’ll receive the payment for it.
If you agree with these terms please reply me with your full name, shipping address and your phone# so that I can forward them to eBay and have the transaction started. They will send you a complete list with instructions/invoice.

–Harriet

P.S. the price of $2900 was offered by a pawn shop over here so I’ve said what the heck let’s someone else takes advantage of my decision to sell it, not a dealer.

Editor’s note: Don’t do anything without the proper paperwork up front. This could be a scam.

SO WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT?—
Don’t ask me, and don’t ask me how to fix it.

Saddlemen seat tech is coming. I heard from Tom Seymour today. Hard working guys.

The government needs to adjust their thinking. We are all being pushed too hard. I’m looking down the barrel of my final building inspection this coming week.

I heard from the VA and they denied me everything I requested. So, I need to go back at them again. It’s all nuts, backwards and the control freaks are winning. Plus, California changed their rule. I can’t register my Indian without 7,500 miles on it. That’s a good thing. I’ll get the hell out of dodge and ride to Sturgis in a couple of weeks. By the time I get back, I’ll be ready for the DMV.

I still don’t get it. Don’t we pay these folks with our taxes? Where’s the Freedom?

Hang on for the next report. It’s never dull.

Ride Free Forever,

–Bandit
