FREEDOM FOREVER SUNDAY POST for June 26, 2016

Hey,

Born Free rocked the Irvine park in Los Angeles. The traffic was improved, the parking easier, the crowds larger, more FXRs, and more Dynas. And the club guys didn’t wear their colors.

We’ve watched the cultural transformation once more. What was grubby and simple becomes mainstream and industry supported. It’s interesting, cool, and the bikes were amazing. I noticed the same at a show at the H-D museum put together during their Ride-In anniversary show by Jeff Nagar.

All the guys watching the show rode in on stock bikes. It was a dichotomy. Born Free is also changing. Originally, it was bobber riders riding to a bobber show. It’s grown to be all riders including performance Dynas, FXRs and even baggers, coming to a very wild custom show with wild choppers from the ‘60s. Grant and Chris set up an area devoted to FXR riders. Kevin Alsop, just smiled.

The Big Bear Gang is setting up a wheelie lot on Lazelle, in Sturgis this year. Hang on for more reports.

Let’s hit the news:

VICTORY MOTORCYCLES AND S&S CYCLE PARTNER TO INTRODUCE MADE FOR VICTORY PERFORMANCE CAM KIT–

Combined performance parts offer 20% more horsepower and 10% more torque for motorcycles featuring the powerful Freedom 106 engine

Victory Motorcycles teamed with performance specialist S&S Cycle to offer a vast increase in the output of motorcycles powered by the Freedom 106 engine, including the Magnum, Cross Country® and Cross Country Tour, as well as the Cross Roads® and Hard-Ball.

The new Made For Victory S&S Stage 2 Performance Cam Kit (MSRP $549.99 US / $699.99 CAD) is designed to significantly increase performance without sacrificing smooth engine response at lower speeds to deliver the full-bore Victory Motorcycles riding experience.

Designed to be used in conjunction with the Victory Stage 1 Tri-Oval Exhaust or Victory Stage 1 Round Exhaust (required and sold separately), this combined kit generates 20 percent more horsepower and 10 percent more torque than the already potent stock Freedom 106 engine for the Cross Country and Cross Roads models, which is well known for handling horsepower upgrades.

The kit includes front and rear cams, a high-flow air dam specifically designed to significantly increase airflow to the engine, and a calibration download card for the dealer. Currently available in 49 states (still pending CARB approval for sale in California) the kit features a one-year warranty. Dealer installation is required.

A Made For Victory® endorsement signifies factory approval in the use of these products on Victory motorcycles, that applicable quality, emissions and safety requirements have been met, and that your motorcycle warranty will not be impacted with the addition of these aftermarket products.

“Made For Victory products allows Victory Motorcycles to partner with some of the top suppliers in the motorcycle industry,” says Brandon Kraemer, Product Manager for Victory Motorcycles. “This kit requires no additional Dyno tuning or aftermarket assistance and completely removes the normal trade-off of performance vs. drivability that is common when installing different cams. An additional benefit to the rider is a less costly upgrade vs. the aftermarket, with the production fuel system being utilized as it was designed to be without any further components.”

“Making power is what we do and we’re excited to partner with Victory in their efforts to expand their performance product range,” says David Zemla, Vice President of Marketing at S&S Cycle.

Made For Victory accessories are developed exclusively for Victory Motorcycles® through partnership collaborations with leading accessory manufacturers that share our vision to provide the best products to riders. These partnerships reinforce our commitment to offer an extensive selection of custom accessories that deliver on style, performance and enhance the Victory riding experience.

Stay tuned for more Made For Victory partnerships to be announced later in 2016.

QUICK, OPEN THE BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRARY–
A circus owner runs an ad for a ‘lion tamer wanted’ and two people showed up……

One is a retired golfer in his late-sixties and the other is a drop-dead, gorgeous brunette with a killer body in her mid-twenties.

The circus owner tells them, “I’m not going to sugar coat it. This is one ferocious lion. He ate my last tamer so you two had better be good or you’re history. Here’s your equipment — a chair, a whip and a gun.

Who wants to try out first?”

The gorgeous brunette says, “I’ll go first.”

She walks past the chair, the whip and the gun and steps right into the cage. The lion starts to snarl and pant and begins to charge her. As he gets close, the gorgeous brunette throws open her coat revealing her beautiful, perfect Naked body. The lion stops dead in his tracks, sheepishly crawls up to her and starts licking her feet and ankles. He continues to lick and kiss every inch of her body for several minutes, then lays down and rests his head at her feet.

The circus owner’s jaw is on the floor! He says, “That’s amazing! I’ve never seen anything like that in my life!”

He then turns to the retired golfer and asks, “Can you top that?”

The old golfer replies,
“Possibly…but you’ve got to get that lion out of there first.”

BIKERNET IRON PILE ALERT–
The Importance of walking.

Walking can add minutes to your life.
This enables you at 65 years old
To spend an additional 5 months in a nursing
Home at £4,000 per month.

My grandpa started walking
Five miles a day when he was 60.
Now he’s 97 years old
And we have no idea where the hell he is.

I like long walks,
Especially when they are taken
By people who annoy me.

The only reason I would take up walking
Is so that I could hear heavy breathing again.

I have to walk early in the morning,
Before my brain figures out what I’m doing…

Every time I hear the dirty word ‘exercise’,
I wash my mouth out with chocolate.

I do have flabby thighs,
But fortunately my stomach covers them.

The advantage of exercising every day
Is so when you die, they’ll say,
‘Well, he looks good doesn’t he.’

If you are going to try cross-country skiing,
Start with a small country.

I know I got a lot of exercise
The last few years…
Just getting over the hill.

Every time I start thinking too much
About how I look,
I just find a pub with a Happy Hour
And by the time I leave,
I look just fine.

You could run this over to your friends
But just e-mail it to them!
It will save you the walk!

THE GREATEST ESCAPE MOTORCYCLE EVENT–
Absolutely. “The Greatest Escape” Motorcycle Ride will commence at 8:30 a.m. with registration at Glendale Harley-Davidson.

The ride will officially begin at 10 a.m. Riders will cruise through the scenic LA Crest Highway and finish at the beautiful Newcomb’s Ranch in La Canada.

Riders will be joined by Celebrity Grand Marshal Fabio, other celebrity riders and law enforcement officials. Gary Bryan, of the K-Earth 101 Morning Show, will bring his delightful blend of humor and candor as MC for the event at Newcomb’s Ranch. Participants will enjoy a BBQ lunch, refreshing Worthy Brewing craft beer, a concert by Cherry & the Bulldogs, vendors, and an opportunity drawing with prizes valued at thousands of dollars.

The motorcycle ride originated as a tribute to “The Great Escape” movie, starring actor Steve McQueen, who died of mesothelioma. Since its inception, hundreds have gathered each year to honor those who fought valiantly against mesothelioma, encourage those who remain undeterred in their present battle, and to raise money for research.

The event is open to all, riders as well as non-riders who simply want to join the fun. The registration fee is $40 for riders and $30 for passengers who register online by July 23, 2016. Riders who register online will receive five free opportunity drawing tickets. On-site registration is $45 for riders and $35 for passengers.

The fee includes a ride pin, bandanna, lunch, entertainment and parking. For non-motorcycle riders tickets are $25 for lunch, entertainment and parking. To register, visit www.TheGreatestEscape.org. All proceeds will go towards mesothelioma research and improving the quality of life for victims of mesothelioma.

Please let me know if you need any additional information. I am attaching a few images as well. Have a great weekend!

WE’RE KEEPING THE BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRARY OPEN ON BORN FREE WEEKEND–

Two elderly ladies had been friends for many decades. Over the years, they had shared all kinds of activities and adventures. Lately, their activities had been limited to meeting a few times a week to play cards. One day, they were playing cards when one looked at the other and said, “Now don’t get mad at me… I know we’ve been friends for a long time but I just can’t think of your name. I’ve thought and thought, but I can’t remember it. Please tell me what your name is.

“Her friend glared at her. For at least three minutes she just stared and glared at her. Finally she said, “How soon do you need to know?”

LATEST BILL HAYES MASTERPIECE FROM MOTORBOOKS–
Greatest One-Percenter Myths, Mysteries, and Rumors Revealed.

Learn the real stories behind legendary events in motorcycle outlaw history.

Pretty much everything the world has ever heard about one-percenter motorcycle clubs has been pure, unadulterated bullshit. Take the so-called Hollister riot of 1947 that started it all. LIFE magazine convinced America that what Hunter Thompson called “The Menace” was about to ride into town spewing rage and 30-weight motor oil, and America believed it.

So what really happened in Hollister? Greatest One-Percenter Myths, Mysteries, and Rumors Revealed divulges the truth about that incident and many more legendary events, including Charles Manson’s desire for a biker army, what really happened to the Easy Rider bikes, and an examination of the mystery of the Waco shootings. The truth will be revealed, but only if you crack the spine on this book and read the real story.

Topics covered in this book include the following:

Lost Lore of the Laughlin River Run

The Straight Satans and Charles Manson

New Bikernet BAGGERS Reader Comment!–

I purchased the complete set of lighting, headlamp and right-driving
light work perfectly. The left driving light will not work even when I put the light from the right side in there. My old light will work. But not the new truck light. I have a 2007 H-D heritage.

–SUZAN FABER NOEL
DRACUT, MA

Suzan,

Since the bulb on the right works and does not when installed in the left I believe your issue is in the wiring. I realize you said the original light works, but I think you will find the problem to be wiring. Use a test light to see if one wire has 12 volts to it, which I suspect it will because the original light works.

Then use a OHM meter to see you have a Good Ground. I am going to suspect
that is where you will find your problem.

Just to be sure, I sent an e-mail to Jamie Lindemuth at Truck Light –
(jlindemuth@truck-Lite.com) asking for her opinion.

I will forward her answer if and when I get one.

BIKERNET UNIVERSITY CORRECTS MEDIA MISTAKE– If you do not read history, you will repeat it’s mistakes. Orlando was not the largest in US history. The talking heads spent more time putting on their makeup than getting the facts right.

THE LARGEST MASS SHOOTING IN US HISTORY HAPPENED December 29,1890. When 297 Sioux Indians at Wounded Knee Creek on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota were murdered by federal agents & members of the 7th Cavalry who had come to confiscate their firearms “for their own safety and protection”. The slaughter began after the majority of the Sioux had peacefully turned in their firearms. The Calvary began shooting, and managed to wipe out the entire camp. 200 of the 297 victims were women and children.

Wounded Knee was among the first federally backed gun confiscation attempts in United States history. It ended in the senseless murder of 297 people.

The Second Amendment, the right of the people to take up arms in defense of themselves, their families, and property in the face of invading armies or an oppressive government. The Second Amendment was written by people who fled oppressive and tyrannical regimes in Europe, and it refers to the right of American citizens to be armed for defensive purposes, should such tyranny arise in the United States.

Wounded Knee is the prime example of why the Second Amendment exists, and why we should vehemently resist any attempts to infringe on our Rights to Bear Arms. Without the Second Amendment we will be totally stripped of any ability to defend ourselves and our families.

BIKERNET GUN NUT ALERT–
NRA Stood By Due Process, Rule of Law in Senate Showdown.

America witnessed a remarkable and telling legislative showdown this week that revolved around a very simple concept underlying American democracy. That concept is due process. Some were willing to discard it for the sake of politics and the illusion of safety. Others were not.

A series of untenable gun control proposals – some which would have placed your Second Amendment rights at the mercy of bureaucratic fiat, black lists, and secret “evidence” – were defeated.

But the degree to which some were willing to abandon foundational principles for short-term and self-serving political gain should serve as a sobering reminder to all that American freedom is not free and that we should never think our government will simply default to it. The Founders understood that, which is why we have a written Constitution and Bill of Rights.

Proponents of gun control tried to portray the showdown as being over those who wanted terrorists to have guns and those who don’t. Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT), a gun control standard-bearer, disgraced the dignity of his office by claiming “Republicans have decided to sell weapons to ISIS.”

Think about how ridiculous that statement is.

And it becomes all the more ridiculous in light of how strenuously President Obama, who embodies the values and agenda of Murphy’s politics, tried to deflect the blame for the Orlando terrorist attack away from radical Islamic jihad, the asserted basis of the attacker himself.

Obama loyalists desperately tried to portray NRA and the Second Amendment as the culprits in the Orlando attacks. During a series of publicity stunts – including Murphy’s “filibuster” on the Senate Floor and a “sit-in” by members of Congress on the House Floor – America heard again and again that gun control is now a matter of national security.

During times of fear and crisis, it’s easy to forget what we’re about as a country. It’s natural for opportunistic and ambitious politicians to grab more power for themselves. It’s natural for entrenched authority to demonize opposition and try to suppress dissent. We saw all of that this past week.

But America has always tried to be better than that, which is why the Constitution is the supreme law of the land. It is greater than any individual. It is mightier than any institution. And it states that no person shall be “deprived of life, liberty, or property without due process of law ….” Whatever else Obama, Murphy, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) and their surrogates in the media tried to make this past week’s contentious legislative efforts about, that’s what was at stake.

The government cannot arbitrarily deny or withhold rights. When someone’s life, liberty, or property is at stake, the person has a right to notice and the opportunity to respond, and the government bears the burden of making its case before a neutral decision-maker as to why its actions are justified. Without these simple principles, we are not a country of laws.

But that was too much for Feinstein, Murphy, and their anti-gun Senate colleagues. They would settle for nothing less than giving bureaucrats the authority to deny gun purchases at will, without any proving of their case. They would not stand (literally, in the case of their House counterparts) to require the government, if it were later sued over the deprivation, to have to prove anything other than a basis for its own “reasonable suspicion” against the individual. The want to let the government, in other words, retroactively rationalize its decision to abolish a fundamental right – not by actually proving a person is somehow a public safety risk because of nexus to terrorism – but by demonstrating it was not “unreasonable” in “suspecting” so at the time.

That’s not due process.

Make no mistake, the NRA does not want terrorists to have legal – or illegal – access to firearms. NRA members have fought and died in the war on terror so we take a backseat to no one when it comes to national security.

Freedom endured this week in the U.S. Senate, but it would not have been possible without the dedication of NRA members who were willing to stand up and contact their elected officials in the face of this latest threat. NRA members flooded Congressional switchboards in just a few short days, and it worked. Your continued vigilance has always been what makes the NRA the strongest civil rights organization in the world.

At the same time, our victory would not have been possible without the Second Amendment leadership of Senators John Cornyn (R-TX) and Chuck Grassley (R-IA). Both senators introduced legislation to protect the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding gun owners and worked tirelessly against passage of the gun control legislation introduced by Feinstein, Murphy, and others. We could not have been successful without them.

But let’s be careful to not consider the battle over. The Senate will remain in session this coming week, so your continued pressure is needed. Gun control proposals could go well beyond the amendments that were voted on last week, so please contact your U.S. Senators and your U.S. Representative immediately and let them know you oppose any new gun control measures. You can call your lawmakers at 202-224-3121 or click here to Take Action.

CORRECTION: Sturgis Hall of fame–

I sent this out a few years ago. While i was at the Summer Hummer in Wisconsin I had a conversation with Hardtail about it. he thought he could get a lot of them, but I am throwing it back out there to the reps also

I noticed the other day that the Freedom Fighter section of the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum Hall of fame webpage did not have bios attached to the names like the rest of the Hall of Fame members. I asked the director of the museum why this was.

She told me that in the early days they did not collect biographies for the freedom fighters. I don’t think it is fair so I offered to help and she said that would be great. So here is my plea for help. Below is a list of people that she needs bios and a photo of. They are listed by states.

If you know a person on the list or know a person that knows a person on the list, please contact them and get the data to write up a short Bio. The bio can be as short as a couple paragraphs. She also needs a photo.

When you get the Bio and the pic email them to me and I will get them to the museum. My email is Jac98fxd@aol.com

This is OUR section of the Hall of Fame, Lets make it as great as the people in it.

BORN FREE NOTES—
BDL has finally completed their Softail/GMA brake kit. This kit has several benefits for Softail owners, plus better brakes. I hope to perform a tech very soon.

I spoke to Arlen and Cory Ness. They are bringing back their digger frames built for Evos and Twin Cams. I’m not sure about Sportsters, you will need to call the shop and ask. When you do, tell them you heard about it on Bikernet.

Paughco was on site at Born Free and we discussed the Salt Torpedo. I will talk to the dragster mastermind next week and we will have major progress in July.

I spoke to the master of Custom Cycle Engineering, Rick Whitehead. He has complete Dyna handling packages available, but there’s a business issue. He’s hoping to work it out and be able to offer them soon.

We picked a couple of bikes to feature. One was built by Tim at Custom Cycle Engineering.

Couple of brothers attended the Power Plant Born Free Party, we may have coverage, if they sober up in time.

In the meantime Ride Free,
