FIX IT QUICK BIKERNET SUNDAY POST for April 10th, 2016

Hey,

I wanted to ride my Indian yesterday, bad. I worked out suited up and it started to rain. Then my grandson called. Frankie wanted to come over and hang out.

Here’s how the day worked out. On Friday we received a suggested report from the City. We could be good to go, but we’re not done yet. I reviewed the report and made notes. We will have a meeting on Monday and determine our next move.

I finished scrolling through the first 19 Chapters of my second Chance Book, after the third edit run. Writing books is a lot of work. Frankie called Saturday morning. He would be delayed by a moving project. A girl needed his help hauling her shit from Hollywood to Pasadena.

I was also hoping to make a move on the scissor lift repairs. I may need new batteries and a charger rebuild. Phil, from Strictly Hawgs hooked me up with an Electrical repair shop in downtown LA, but the main guy got pissed off and left. Phil was hunting him down and would give me a call.

We finally got a garden hose bib installed at the back of the building, but we needed a hose bracket. We checked at Home Depot. They have about a 100 different bastards from $15 to $200. I decided to make one out of spare shit, while waiting for Frankie.

He called again. Had to make another trip. It was getting late to make dinner at the club. We blazed over and Frankie met us, for barbecue at 7:30. Then a text came in from his mom. A Bob Roberts art exhibit in Long Beach was happening. We peeled across town. Turned out to be a very busy day. Let’s hit the news:

THE NOTORIOUS PANAMA PAPERS–
Law Firm’s Files Include Dozens of Companies and People Blacklisted by U.S. Authorities

Global law firm’s customers include suspected financiers of terrorism, nuclear weapons proliferators and gunrunners.

The attack was one of hundreds of aerial bombings that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s regime has carried out during the country’s six-year civil war, killing thousands of its own people. The deadly air campaign would not have been possible, U.S. authorities have charged, without a network of companies that dodged international embargoes by supplying the oil and gas that kept the military aircraft in sky.

Three of the companies that the U.S. alleges helped supply the fuel were customers of a global law firm, Mossack Fonseca & Co., which helped the companies incorporate and maintain offshore branches in Seychelles, a tax haven in the Indian Ocean.

The law firm continued doing work for at least one of these closely-linked companies after the three of them were blacklisted by the American government for supporting Syria’s war machine – joining dozens of other Mossack Fonseca customers sanctioned by the U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control.

Mossack Fonseca, which is based in Panama but has offices around the world, has worked with at least 33 individuals or companies that have landed on the Treasury Department’s OFAC list, according to an analysis of the firm’s internal files by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists, the German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung and other media partners.

In some cases, individuals and companies had ceased to work with Mossack Fonseca before being sanctioned. In other cases, the entities were active customers when the sanctions were put in place.

The reporting partners reviewed more than 11 million documents — emails, client accounts and financial records — that show the inner workings of Mossack Fonseca from 1977 to December 2015.

Much more to come.

Nice fictional article. Of course the murderer will tell you he was in prison for drug charges. Lol. Do some research before talking about him as a good man. Google Louis DeRosa murder. You’ll see he was in prison for murder.

CALIFORNIA GUN NUT REPORT– Firearm-Related Bills scheduled to be heard Tuesday, April 12– On Tuesday, April 12, the Assembly Committee on Public Safety has scheduled a hearing at 9:00 AM at the State Capitol in Room 126.

The following firearm-related bills are expected to be heard. Please contact the members of the Committee and urge them to OPPOSE Assembly Bill 2459 and SUPPORT Assembly Bill 2508 and Assembly Bill 2340. Committee contact information can be found at the NRA site. Make your voice heard

OPPOSE – AB 2459 was originally scheduled to be heard on April 5th, but has been rescheduled for Tuesday, April 12. As previously reported, this bill would be devastating to California’s gun owners. AB 2549 is detrimental legislation that would lead to the close of all the gun shops in the state of California, leaving Californian’s unable to exercise their Second Amendment rights.

SUPPORT – AB 2340 would exempt a person holding a valid license to carry a concealed firearm and who is also protected by a domestic violence protective order, from both the school zone and the university concealed carry prohibitions.

SUPPORT – AB 2508 would allow handguns that match the original intent of the Roster of Handguns Certified for Sale (the “Roster”) to be reconsidered for the Roster.

Please forward this alert to your family, friends, fellow gun owners and sportsman and urge them to take action also.

Update on April 5, Committee hearings.

SB 894 was rescheduled to be heard by the Senate Public Safety Committee on Tuesday, April 19. SB 894 would require a victim of a crime to report to local Law Enforcement the theft of a firearm within an arbitrary time requirement of five days and the recovery of the firearm within 48 hours. Governor Brown has twice vetoed similar legislation stating, “I was not convinced that criminalizing the failure to report a lost or stolen firearm would improve identification of gun traffickers or help law enforcement disarm people prohibited from possessing guns. I continue to believe that responsible people report the loss or theft of a firearm and irresponsible people do not.”

SJR 20 passed the Senate Public Safety Committee by a party-line vote of 5 to 2. SJR 20 would urge the Congress of the United States to lift a prohibition against publicly funded scientific research on the causes of “gun violence”and its effects on public health. The basic point is that this bill isn’t about problem solving through science; it’s cloaking a pre-existing anti- gun political agenda in the mantle of science.

PAUL VESTAL RECOGNIZED–
Former Maine prison warden turned biker activist among ‘Remember Me’ honorees– In the early 1980s, Paul Vestal was the feisty, free-spirited, outspoken warden at the old Maine State Prison in Thomaston who advocated for inmates to learn practical skills and engage in meaningful work during their incarceration.

He lead a review panel for juvenile offenders whose crimes were linked to substance abuse and then went to work for Catholic Charities. In 1990, he was named chairman of the Maine Human Rights Commission by then-Gov. John McKernan, a panel he served until his retirement in 2014.

A lifelong motorcycle enthusiast, Vestal joined the United Bikers of Maine in 1978 and became its president in 1982, serving seven consecutive terms as the group lobbied — successfully — to prevent Maine from requiring motorcyclists 18 and over to wear helmets. It was Vestal who persuaded three Maine governors — John McKernan, Angus King and John Baldacci — to personally participate in the UBM’s high-visibility Toys for Tots collection for underprivileged children.

He served on the board of the Motorcycle Rights Foundation, and in 2008 was inducted into the Freedom Fighters Hall of Fame in Sturgis, South Dakota, which honors those who protect the rights of motorcyclists through the political process and through grass-roots organization.

These days, at 69, Vestal lives at the Maine Veterans Home in Bangor. He has Alzheimer’s disease. Even in its early stages, the disease, which runs in his family, has made it impossible to live safely on his own.

Paul was a brilliant motorcycle rights advocate and freedom fighter. I hope to speak with him next week.–Bandit

THE AUTO-CYCLE FILES– Kentucky has made a request to collect auto-cycle language from around the country. Can everyone send me what they have from their state? If you do not have if defined in your state, how are they handling registrations? Are they being classified as motorcycles? Are they not registering them?

I will compile all the data collected and create a living document for whomever may need it in the future.

PIRELLI RACERS CHARGE TO FINISH–
at Indianapolis Supercross.

The 13th round of the 2016 Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, was held Saturday night inside the home of the Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium.

In a city known as the “Racing Capital of the World,” teams and riders could be found decked out in old-school riding gear and graphics as they participated in the championships annual retro night. A challenging track was in store for the rider’s, which consisted of soft-rutty soil and left many of the sports stars opting to run the SCORPION™ MX32™ tires for a performance advantage over the competition.

BTO Sports/WPS/KTM’s Justin Brayton got off to a strong start as he pulled the holeshot in 450SX Heat 1. He set a quick pace at the front of the field, leading several laps before eventually settling into third place and earning a direct transfer to the Main Event.

Autotrader/Monster Energy/Yamaha’s Justin Barcia circulated the opening lap of 450SX Semi 2 in fifth position, but he quickly went to work and began moving towards the front. He charged to third place at the finish and a transfer position to the Main Event.
The Privateer Journey Racing rider of Nick Schmidt logged strong-consistent laps in 450SX Semi 1, claiming the fourth position to qualify for his 12th consecutive Main Event of the season.

A crash earlier in the evening forced Autotrader/Monster Energy/Yamaha’s Weston Peick to lineup for the 450SX LCQ. He started towards the front and passed for the lead early before pulling way to take the win.

As the Eastern Regional 250SX Class returned to action, MAD Racing/Dirt Candy Graphics/Suzuki’s Matt Bisceglia started inside of the top-10 in 250SX Heat 2. The Texan made several passes, which resulted in a fifth-place finish and direct transfer to the Main Event.

As the gate dropped for the 450SX Main Event, the No.10 of Brayton started the opening lap just inside of the top-10. The veteran rider methodically navigated the tricky conditions, eventually finishing a hard-fought eight place. After beginning the race nearly dead last, Barcia battled the entire 20-lap Main Event to finish in 15th.

Peick had an impressive come from behind ride as he passed into the top-10 on Lap 7, however, he would make a mistake just one lap later and lose valuable time as he ended up in 16th. Schmidt rode solid aboard his TPJ Racing machine en route to a 19th-place finish.

In the 250SX Main Event, Bisceglia rounded the first turn towards the tail end of the field and had his work cut out with a pack of riders in front of him. He put his head down and began working his way through traffic, but misfortune struck on Lap 13 when he tangled with another rider and went down. He remounted to cross the checkered flag in 13th.

The 14th round of Monster Energy Supercross will take place next weekend on Saturday, April 16th from the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis, Missouri.

NEWEST GUN NUT REPORT–
At Least Five Gun-Purchase Records Set in March 2016

“Hillary Clinton is making gun control a central theme of her campaign” for president of the United States, the Wall Street Journal reports. But whether this is a strategy that will win the White House is in dispute, or certainly ought to be. Based upon trends in firearm background checks conducted by the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS), opposition to gun control may be stronger than ever.

The number of checks conducted in March 2016 was the highest for any March since NICS’ inception. The 2,523,265 checks topped the previous record for the month, 2,488,842, set in 2013.

March 2016 also marked the tenth consecutive month in which the number of checks was the highest for the month in question. Stated another way, there were more checks in May 2015 than in any previous May, more in June 2015 than for any previous June, and so on for every month since.

Also, the number of checks for the 12-month period ending the 31st of March was the highest for any 12-month period on record. The number for that 12-month period, 25,179,245, was over a half million higher than the number for the previous 12-month high, set at the end of February.

Finally, March was also the 5th highest month for checks since NICS’ inception, behind December 2015, December 2012, February 2016 and January 2016. Thus, four of the highest five NICS months on record have transpired as Clinton has gone from tiresome to shrill in her advocacy of gun control.

My Grandpa built Black Bart 1&2 in his garage. Some type of credit or respect for that would be appreciated!!! I’m sure Tony’s family would want that in return if the tables were turned around. Ron Ferrell was his name and I have pics of him building these bikes from the ground up.

MRF STAFFER NEEDS HELP–
In an effort to the beat the snow tomorrow, I need to get my bike to a shop this evening. I’m going to sneak out at 4pm to limp my bike to get it looked at.

On Wednesday, I just dropped down onto 110 by Arlington cemetery hit 60 and my bike lost power then shut off. I was able to get across two lanes waving my arm like a crazy person to get to the side of the road.

The bike started back up but I couldn’t get pulled back out. A cop stopped and agreed to block two lanes for me to get back into traffic. He followed me since I only needed to get a few more miles to exit into my neighborhood.

As soon as I hit 55, the bike lost power again and I pulled over. The cop then told me to just go up the on ramp into the pentagon and head home. The bike is idling fine, no issues in the other gears, didn’t backfire or make a noise but quits when I try to get up to speed.

I called the hundred-dollar man where I bought this thing a month ago and they can’t even look at it for 40 days. So, I am going to take it to an independent shop in hopes that it is an easy fix and I can get back to riding.

We are working with this vest in leather with a zipper and snaps flap. Maybe all the snaps concealed, and the side straps removed. And the hand warmer pockets will not have zippers and partly concealed for a clean look. Hang on for the first example.

CASTROL AND TRIUMPH MOTORCYCLES CONTINUE SUPPORT OF VETMOTORSPORTS PERFORMANCE MATCH FUND– Castrol and Triumph Motorcycles America are pleased to announce the continuation of Castrol’s VETMotorsports Performance Match Fund, which helps raise financial support and awareness for VETMotorsports, an Ohio-based 501(c)(3) status nonprofit organization that honors and empowers injured warfighters through active participation in motorsports.

Castrol’s VETMotorsports Performance Match Fund will award bonuses to VETMotorsports based on the on-track results of Triumph teams during the 2016 race season. “Since 2013 the VETMotorsports program has positively affected the lives of over 126 injured warfighters plus caregivers,” said Peter Cline, Executive Director and Founder of VETMotorsports. “Having Castrol and Triumph as partners is not only exciting, but also assists us in our endeavor to reduce the shocking number of veterans we’re losing to suicide each day.

With this collaboration VETMotorsports plans on 11 national outreach events within AMA Pro Flat Track. We can’t thank the Triumph teams and their partners enough for embracing these injured warfighters and offering them renewed hope by having them be a part of a team again.”

To help offset transportation costs, VETMotorsports will receive $400 per weekend when an injured warfighter is placed on a Triumph team. VETMotorsports earns additional donations from top finishes, pole positions and more based on the results achieved by Triumph teams as outlined below:

Castrol’s VETMotorsports Performance Match Fund

Win: $2,250

2nd Place: $1,125

BIKERNET VOCABULARY LESSON OF THE DAY —

Majuscule: muh-JUHS-kyool, MAJ-uh-skyool
adjective

1. large, as either capital or uncial letters.
2. (of letters) capital.

Quotes
Within literary texts, the next major division is between majuscule (“capital”) and minuscule (small) letters.
— David M. Schaps, Handbook for Classical Research, 2011

Origin
Majuscule entered English in the early 1700s with roots in the Latin majuscula littera meaning “a somewhat bigger letter.” Ultimately it derives from the Latin major, “major.”

A STRANGE ONE— Most everyday I wake up with a list a mile long hanging over me. You know the drill, “Be careful what you wish for…”

Each week slaps us with daunting and sometimes costly projects. As I’ve said before, 2016 kicked off with serious challenges. But over the last couple of days there seems to have been an easing of priorities.

What the hell could it be? What’s giving me this false sense of hope. All the challenges still exist. Maybe it’s a lull before the storm, but I felt a sense of peace yesterday, like someone tore up my list, for even just a day. WTF?

I called a Hamster brother Myron Larabee, in Phoenix. He was going to cover Paul Yaffe’s media event during Arizona Bike Week. Myron was set and signed up for the assignment when he heard his last wife was killed in a bike accident while riding to Care Free on her new Indian Scout.

Myron was shaken, so he made it late to the Party. “We will send Bandit some reports,” Paul told him. “We don’t want you to get in trouble with the big guy.”

This brother is a good shit, but he’s lost a lot of folks very close to him over the last decade, and it doesn’t feel right. All I could tell him was the Code of the West. We all live and we all die. It’s guaranteed. Can’t get out of here alive, so let’s party.

Okay, so the magnificent list exploded this morning and I’m all over it.

Ride Free Forever,

–Bandit
