CONFUSED SUNDAY POST for October 4th, 2015


Hey,

I’m confused and frustrated today. I’m sure you face similar situations. I have a good friend who doesn’t trust our government. He doesn’t pay tickets, his registration fees, or even fix his busted vehicles. He’s not a dummy, but he just doesn’t give a shit.

Just ran across another guy who is doing the same. It’s as if he gave up trying to keep up with regulations, threw up his hands and said, “fuck it.” Maybe there’s so much corruption in the government these guys said, “fuck you. If you’re going to fuck us, I’m not playing by any rules ever again.”

In many respects it’s sad. Let’s hit the news. Check the first story, another reason for major frustration.


OUR FINANCIAL SITUATION— THE UNEMPLOYNENT RATE IS DOWN TO A EXCEPTIONALLY LOW 5.1 PERCENT. But wait, And important corrective arrived last week from the Census Bureau, which reported that the median U.S. household had a lower income in 2014, in inflation-adjusted terms, than in 2013. The $53,657 earned at the very middle of the income scale was also 6.5 percent lower than in 2007, and 7.2 percent below where it was in 1999.

The middle-class family makes substantially less today than it did 15 years ago. This depressing data on our disappearing wages holds true across almost every demographic group sorted by age or race.

BIKERNET CHINESE LUNAR ECLIPSE INVESTIGATION CONTINUES– Just found another photo on the Web taken at the same time span but in Carson and the caption posted with it.

 
I believe it is the same object I photographed.

Carson – A bizarre V-shaped cloud was seen during, Lunar Eclipse and orange moon tonight on September 27, 2015.

I have never seen anything like that before, so I took pictures. Others and I have witnessed the formation of clouds, could not explain how it was formed.

It was a strange cloud formation, especially how it kept its perfect form for about 35 minutes. There were other clouds in the sky, but none had this shape.

BEWARE OF CHP REGISTRATION WOES—
Hang on for this story. A brother took a basket case to the CHP in Los Angeles, for VIN verification recently. The offer told him the bike must be complete before they checked numbers.

Six months later the bike was complete and returned to the CHP offices. Once his new scoot was checked in, the officer said, “You know that over the last six months I have inspected 200 vehicles. Only two were allowed to pass.”

The officers tore the bike completely to pieces then called him. “It didn’t pass. Come and get the pieces you can have back.”
He received everything except the engine and transmission cases. His cases were fine, but the officer would not pass them. He bought new cases, but never returned to the CHP again.

THIRD QUARTER NATIONAL MOTORIST ASSOCIATION LEGISLATIVE REPORT– The legislative process slows down over summer (not necessarily a bad thing) since most state legislatures are in recess and won’t resume their business until next year. However, we did see a few notable proposals that required our members’ attention in the third quarter of 2015, which we will summarize below.

Alerting members to important legislation is one the NMA’s most important functions. That’s why our completely redesigned, soon-to-be-released website will include enhancements to our legislative alert archive. The new alert posting format will include an up-front summary section so you can get the basics of the bill, along with our position on it, at a glance. The new site will also allow us to post legislative alerts more prominently on each state page as well as on the main home page.

If you’re interested in tracking legislation on your own, check out MailFilterGateway has detected a possible fraud attempt from “motorists.us1.list-manage2.com” claiming to be www.openstates.org. It provides information on state-level legislation for all 50 states, is easily searchable and sends updates directly to your inbox. You can also find out who your legislators are, what bills they’ve sponsored, how they voted on recent bills and how to get in touch with them.

California
The NMA supported the efforts of Senator John Moorlach, who recently issued a stark critique of the state of California’s transportation funding along with the condition of its roads. You can read the entire piece here (it’s short), but here’s a summary: California gas taxes are the fourth highest in the nation, and the state takes in $10.6 billion annually in gas tax and transportation fees. Yet, only 20 percent of that revenue is spent on road repair and new construction. Meanwhile, California’s roads rank near the bottom in every category.

The NMA encouraged California members to contact their legislators and demand that state transportation officials devote a higher percentage of road-user fees to actual road repair and expansion.

National
The NMA opposed a push by the U.S. House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, which has jurisdiction over the Interstate Highway System in the House, to expand interstate tolling in its Highway Reauthorization Bill. Pennsylvania
The NMA opposed Senate Bill 840, which would allow speed camera enforcement in highway work zones. The bill has passed the Senate Transportation Committee.

The NMA opposed the renewal of the red-light camera contract in Abington Township. The township board voted to extend the contract for three years.

South Dakota
Last year the NMA supported a law to prohibit the release of driver’s license information to any city seeking to issue a camera-based ticket to a South Dakota driver. The intent was to protect state residents from the predatory practices associated with red-light and speed cameras. Yet, South Dakota drivers are still receiving out-of-state camera tickets, primarily from cities in neighboring Iowa.

Clearly the cities and the camera companies have contracted with third-party data providers to retrieve vehicle registration information necessary to process and send such tickets. The existing law doesn’t go far enough, and the NMA has called for further prohibitions on the ability to issue out-of-state camera tickets to South Dakota drivers.

Well, I’ll be building an old school chopper from the early ‘70s, and thanks to this article I’ll be using a Sportster with an EVO in it for the build, instead of an old Kawasaki 750.

THERE YOU HAVE IT— In this short Sunday Post we brought Freedom back to America, saved the middle class, and kicked some ass. With this program life could be terrific in this country once more. And the population would love to work hard again, create, build business, and learn something every day.

We try to live the dream at Bikernetville or Bandit’s Cantina and keep the faith. This coming week I will try like hell to finish editing my next Chance book. I will also work on a feature with Todd Silicato, who is hiding on a small island in Hawaii.

Then we will chase after Rick Whitehead and cover all his bitchin’ fixes for Dynas, including new rubbermounts from Custom Cycle Engineering.

We will also cover Las Vegas BikeFest action, David Campbell travel features, a Paul Garson antique feature, and another Scooter Tramp Scotty road story. Never a dull moment.

We may also bring you a new attempt to keep the custom motorcycle aftermarket alive and thriving.
