GREEN FLASH SUNDAY POST FOR December 14, 2014

Hey,

I tried to take the day off Saturday, but that’s not really possible, so I slept some, and then scrambled. I clammored around the headquarters, taking care of the animals, fixing plants fucked with by the storm, sweeping, and thinking about motorcycles, women, and stuff. I made a list last night and I needed to work out.

According to the Feng Shui mistress this could be a very quirky, no good month for me. I should keep my mouth shut. That’s a trick. Also, I’m trying to follow a code and not talk about others unless in a positive light. Instead talk about creative endeavors, projects, bikes, but not about people negatively. Try it for a day. It comes natural to some folks, and I recognize this characteristic and applaud it.

But because I slowed myself down today, I started to think about projects. It’s easy for me to get one project handled, and then immediately jump into something else, or some opportunity falls in my lap and I run with it. I was thinking about trying my hand at a bronze sculpture, but this morning it dawned on me. I need to finish my second Chance book, then the screenplay I started. So I put the clay aside for the time being.

This book means a lot to me. At 66 it might be my last fiction endeavor. I want it to be the best. My copy editor recently finished with it, so it’s back in my grubby paws. I need to find the precious time to run through it once more. Bruce made several suggestions. I’ll try to pay attentions as I roll through it.

I need to back off on some bullshit projects. They are not all bullshit, but I do need to back off, set them aside and focus on quality. I’m glad I’m writing this. I just scolded Kyle about quality.

Let’s hit the news, then I’ll explain, but you don’t need to hear it. You get it.

BLONDE BAD JOKE LIBRARY OPEN ON SUNDAY–KNITTING

A highway patrolman pulled alongside a speeding car on the freeway. Glancing at the car, he was astounded to see that the blonde behind the wheel was knitting!

Realizing that she was oblivious to his flashing lights and siren, the trooper cranked down his window, turned on his bullhorn and yelled, ‘PULL OVER!’

‘NO!’ the blonde yelled back, ‘IT’S A SCARF!’

BLONDE ON TIME

A girl was visiting her blonde friend, who had acquired two new dogs, and asked her what their names were.

The blonde responded by saying that one was named Rolex and one was named Timex.
Her friend said, ‘Whoever heard of someone naming dogs like that?’

‘Helllooooo. . . ,’ answered the blonde. ‘They’re watch dogs’

THIS JUST IN FROM THE BIKERNET SPORTS AUTHORITY–No matter which side you are on in the matter of renaming the Washington Redskins, this is funny. This guy is hilarious…
Here is an e-mail sent to Clarence Page of the Chicago Tribune, after an article he published concerning a name change for the Washington Redskins.

DEAR MR. PAGE…
I agree with our Native American population. I am highly insulted by the racially charged name of the Washington Redskins. One might argue that to name a professional football team after Native Americans would exalt them as fine warriors, but nay, nay. We must be careful not to offend, and in the spirit of political correctness and courtesy, we must move forward.

Let’s ditch the Kansas City Chiefs, the Atlanta Braves and the Cleveland Indians. If your shorts are in a wad because of the reference the name Redskins makes to skin color, then we need to get rid of the Cleveland Browns.

The Carolina Panthers obviously were named to keep the memory of militant Blacks from the ‘60s alive. Gone. It’s offensive to us white folk.

The New York Yankees offend the Southern population. Do you see a team named for the Confederacy? No! There is no room for any reference to that tragic war that cost this country so many young men’s lives.

I am also offended by the blatant references to the Catholic religion among our sports team names. It’s totally inappropriate to have the New Orleans Saints, the Los Angeles Angels or the San Diego Padres.

Then there are the team names that glorify criminals who raped and pillaged. We are talking about the horrible Oakland Raiders, the Minnesota Vikings, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Pittsburgh Pirates!

Now, let us address those teams that clearly send the wrong message to our children. The San Diego Chargers promote irresponsible fighting or even spending habits. It’s definitely the wrong message to our children.

The New York Giants and the San Francisco Giants promote obesity, a growing childhood epidemic. Again, the wrong message to our children.

The Cincinnati Reds promote downers/barbiturates. Once again, the wrong message to our children. The Milwaukee Brewers. Well that goes without saying; it’s the wrong message to our children.

So, there you go. We need to support any legislation that comes out to rectify this travesty, because the government will likely become involved with this issue, as they should. Just the kind of thing our do-nothing Congress loves.

As a diehard Oregon State fan, my wife and I, with all of this in mind, suggest it might also make some sense to change the name of the Oregon State women’s athletic teams to something other than “the Beavers”. Especially when they play Southern California. Do we really want the Trojans sticking it to the Beavers?

I always love your articles and I generally agree with them. As for the Redskins name I would suggest they change the name to the “Foreskins” to better represent their community, paying a special tribute to the “DICK HEADS” in our Congress.

MOTORBOOKS BOOK OF THE WEEK–Recently a reporter asked me why I decided to make my latest project a book about Jeep. After all, I’ve written a lot of books. He wondered-aren’t there more popular topics I might have tried?

Maybe, I replied. But none of them could be more fascinating. Jeep, after all, is the vehicle that won World War II. No other vehicle can make that claim. It stormed the beaches at Guadalcanal, Iwo Jima and Normandy. It saved the lives of countless soldiers. And it’s the vehicle that created the whole four-wheel drive Sports Utility Vehicle market.

Many companies have tried to copy it but no other vehicle even comes close. It’s one of the few truly iconic motor vehicles that an ordinary person can buy. And Jeep is not some forgotten brand that was great sixty years ago- this year more than a million people will go to their local dealers and buy new Jeeps- isn’t that amazing?

Think of how many of those million new Jeep owners will want to buy a book about their car. And think about how many millions of Jeep owners are already out there in the market.

THAT’s why I wanted to write a history of Jeep. It’s a great topic and also a great money-maker.

As a former Jeep salesman with over thirty years experience in the automotive industry I have a lot of contacts who helped me with this book. Former Jeep presidents, vice presidents, engineers and designers all contributed to making this the best Jeep book possible. And delving into my own enormous archive yielded hundreds of outstanding photos, many of them never before published.

I’m proud to have created this new book about America’s greatest vehicle.

AUSTRALIAN MOTORCYCLIST WEARING GO-PRO CAMERA CHALLENGES HELMET LAWS
— MOTORCYCLISTS have accused police of being “petty” and trying to meet end-of-year targets after a series of riders were fined on the state’s roads over their helmet’s visor tint.

And biker advocates say Victoria Police must stop booking motorcyclists over helmets until the Federal Government clears up “extremely complex” laws surrounding helmet compliance standards.

Luke Johnson, 27, from The Basin, copped an infringement notice of $295 and three demerit points for “riding without a helmet” after police stopped him and said his tinted visor did not meet the standards required by law.

Flabbergasted by what he says is a “grossly unfair” fine, Mr Johnson turned to the web for answers and was shocked to find he was not alone.

An OzRider blog revealed at least two other Victorian motorcyclists had been hit with the same offence in recent weeks. All were nicked during the day and were not intercepted for speeding or any other offences.

“I have the utmost respect for what our police officers do, but this seems to be a joke,” Mr Johnson said. “They are saying by swapping the visor from the original makes the helmet ‘void’, and you can then be charged as if you’re not wearing a helmet at all.

“I thought I was doing the right thing by putting the visor on to cut out the glare. It’s much safer. They allow you to wear sunglasses — what’s the difference?”

The fines come as the Australian Standard helmet compliance laws are under review by the Federal Government.

The Australian Motorcycle Council has made submissions to the Government to fix what it says is “incoherent” legislation that differs between each state and territory. A national forum on the issue will be held in Sydney in February. Victorian Motorcycle Council deputy chairman Peter Baulch said police should hold off fining riders over helmets until after the forum. “Any officer who punishes motorcyclists over this ahead of this forum is a little foolish,” he said.

BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRARY OPEN ON WEEKENDS–My son was thrown out of school today for letting a girl in his class give him a hand-job.

I said, “Son, that’s three schools this year! You’d better stop before you’re banned from teaching altogether.”

So I asked my Doctor, “Doctor, what are we going to do about this dangerous virus from Africa?”

And he said, “I don’t know, he has two more years in office.”

Teacher Debbie Moon’s first graders were discussing a picture of a family. One little boy in the picture had a different hair color than the other members. One of her students suggested that he was adopted.

A little girl said, ‘I know all about Adoption, I was adopted..’

‘What does it mean to be adopted?’, asked another child.

‘It means’, said the girl, ‘that you grew in your mommy’s heart instead of her tummy!’

At dinner, little Johnny was asked to lead the prayer. “But I don’t know how to pray,” he replied.

“Just pray for your family, friends, and neighbors, the poor, etc.,” said his father.

“Okay”, the boy said, “Dear Lord,.. Thank you for our visitors and their children, who finished all my cookies and ice cream. Bless them so they won’t come again. Forgive our neighbor’s son, who removed my sister’s clothes and wrestled with her on her bed. This coming Christmas, please send clothes to all those poor naked ladies on my Daddy’s Blackberry. And provide shelter for the homeless man who uses Mom’s room when Daddy is at work. AMEN.”

Dinner was canceled!

BDL BALL BEARING LOCK-UP CLUTCH

Belt Drives LTD has made living with today’s high horsepower, big torque engines a lot less stressful. The company’s ability to stay on the edge of current technology and address rider demands is evident in their, “patented” BALL BEARING LOCK UP CLUTCH.

This unique clutch mechanism significantly lightens clutch pull at the lever while providing slip free lock up. Each unit incorporates a designated number of steel ball bearings set in a model specific diaphragm assembly. Replacing the factory pressure plate, springs, stock applications use the factory diaphragm spring, and associated hardware, the new ball bearing, diaphragm design provides feather light lever control, smoother operation and more positive lock up. For racing applications BDL offers heavier carbide bearings that can be used to literally “tune” the clutch for varied applications.

The new BDL BALL BEARING LOCK UP CLUTH is standard equipment with new 2-inch BDL belt drives and is available for retro fit to most early BDL units, stock HD models from 1998 through 2007 and 1990 to 2007 Primo Pro-Clutch belt drives.

How can I purchase one and bring it to Perth, Australia. Can you please
let me know how?

–Johnny Gray
Perth, WA, Australia

Response from Doc Robinson, Tech Editor, Heavy Duty Magazine, Australia:
The legal situation is confusing but it looks like there is no way to bring it in.

Harley-Davidson trikes do not pass the ADR (Australian Design Rules), which is something to do with their track width being too narrow.

However, there sometimes are ways around this and I am awaiting a response from a guy who should know.

I follow thru as soon as I get something.

NEW MOVE FOR THE AIM EXPO–I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and my goals for the American V-Twin Market.

My name is Bob Kay and I have been involved in the motorcycle industry for over 4 decades. We, at AIMExpo, want to create a platform where we can assemble the broadest demographic of American V-Twin enthusiasts from notable O.E.M.s , to brand name aftermarket manufacturers, to major distributors, to everyday riders whether they are part of the chopper sub-culture or just old bikers like me.

If you would please take a moment and open our recap video and check us out you will see what AIMExpo is all about. In 2014, our second show, we went from 392 exhibitors to 501, and drew in over 3,000 dealer personnel, 250 media representatives and 11,000 consumers. The number one comment besides how great the show was, you guessed it, “AIMExpo needs more American V-Twin presence.” That is my job to change.

You will see where our first initiative is headed with our all-new Made in America pavilion. We want to integrate the V-Twin market, not segregate it, and we feel this way we can have an area of the show that attracts V-Twin exhibitors and visitors while not separating them from other opportunities to see new products, meet new sources from crossover vendors and find new customers that were not aware of the services your company offers. The “Made in America” pavilion is designed to celebrate American ingenuity by showcasing products from American companies and their broad influence on the domestic and international motorcycle marketplace.

We are not just stopping there. We are working on other initiatives including a World Class bike show and a two-day Garage Party area focused on around the chopper sub-culture. Stay tuned for more exciting press releases!

Please feel free to call me (817-312-0380) or your AIMExpo exhibitor consultant. We will have multiple level exhibitor and sponsorship opportunities available to ensure your success at AIMExpo 2015, October 15-18 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando Florida

THE BIKERNET OFFICIAL LICENSED PHILOSOPHER ON Living the DreamAll our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them. –Walt Disney

As the oak sleeps in the acorn so are our dreams the seedlings of our reality. Nothing in Life was accomplished unless it was born in the shape of a dream.

When we cease to hope and dream our very soul begins to die.

Today’s Affirmation: Today I confidently move forward in the direction my dreams and endeavors. I live the life, which I have imagined, my dreams are my reality. I have the passion, determination and the character to be Living My Dream. The simple formula to make my dreams a reality, is an awful lot of determination, dedication, self-discipline, and effort combined with Faith and Trust. I am consistent and persistent on this journey and accept nothing but great unfoldment.

Today I am Living the Dream

And So It IS

WAIT, BACK IN THE BIKERNET BANK VAULT—A two-year Senate investigation has concluded that three major U.S. banks built up large and risky stakes in the commodities markets that gave them unfair advantages, said Neil Hume in FT.com.

Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, and JPMorgan Chase bought large holdings of essential commodities—including dozens of power stations, oil storage tanks, and millions of tons of aluminum—which allowed them to influence commodity prices and obtain early market information, lawmakers said.

The banks denied exploiting advantage from the holdings.

BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRARY
A circus owner runs an ad for a lion tamer and two people show up.

One is a retired golfer in his late sixties, and the other is a gorgeous blond in her mid-twenties.

The circus owner tells them, “I’m not going to sugar coat it. This is one ferocious lion.

He ate my last tamer so you two had better be good or you’re history.”
“Here’s your equipment –chair, whip and a gun.”
“Who wants to try out first?”

The girl says, “I’ll go first.”
She walks past the chair, the whip and the gun and steps right into the lion’s cage.
The lion starts to snarl and pant and begins to charge her.

About halfway there, she throws open her coat revealing her beautiful naked body.

The lion stops dead in his tracks, sheepishly crawls up to her and starts licking her
feet and ankles. He continues to lick and kiss her entire body for several minutes and then rests his head at her feet.

The circus owner’s jaw is on the floor. “I’ve never seen a display like that in my life.”

He turns to the retired golfer and asks, “Can you top that?”

The old golfer says, “No problem, just get that lion outta there.”
