Hey,
Sorry about the late Sunday/Monday post. I was supposed to arrive in Los Angeles from Greece in about 1:00 p.m. dash back to the headquarters and slam out the Sunday News, but nooo. I had to miss my first flight and that threw the entire day off. If I caught the first flight, I would have been forced to scramble out of the sack at 3:00 a.m. Maybe it wasn’t in the stars.
Okay, so where to start? Of course the myriad of Bikernet content still flowed toward the headquarters while I drank Greek beer called FIX and the skipper of our 48-foot sloop, smoked Greek cigarettes called Assos. Greek girls with beautiful smiles surrounded us from Island to island. Maybe if I hadn’t partied as hard the last night in Athens, where we hiked to the top of the Acropolis and ate dinner over looking the city, I would have made that flight. Who the hell knows?
So now it’s time to focus on all the goals for this year as we fly at the center of the year. I’m trying to figure it out. Is it all the action eating away at precious time. Is it the mass of communication devices cutting into every minute of our lives? Is it the material world, or is it just me and waaay too many projects. Enjoy the Post.
BIKERNET UNIVERSITY HISTORY DEPARTEMENT CRITICAL FINDINGS–In Shakespeare’s time,
mattresses were secured on bed frames by ropes. ?When you pulled on the ropes, the mattress tightened, ?making the bed firmer to sleep on. Hence the ?phrase…’Goodnight , sleep tight’
It was the accepted practice in Babylon 4,000 years ago that for a month after the wedding, the bride’s father would supply his son-in-law with all the mead he could drink.
Mead is a honey-laced whiskey and because their calendar was lunar based, this period was called the honey month, which we know today as the honeymoon. ?
In English pubs, ale ?is ordered by pints and quarts… So in old England, when customers got unruly, the bartender would yell at them
‘Mind your pints and quarts, and settle down.’ . . .It’s where we get the phrase ‘mind your P’s and Q’s’
Many years ago in England, pub frequenters had a whistle baked into the rim, or handle, of their ceramic cups.
When they needed a refill, they used the whistle to get some service.
‘Wet your whistle’ is the phrase
inspired by this practice.

BIKERNET YALE PSYCHOLOGY LESSON, JUST DO IT!–Do you remember the old Nike commercials JUST DO IT? Believe it or not that slogan was released in 1988. Over a ten-year period Nike market share went from 18% to 43% with that slogan as their mission statement.
I wish I was as clear back then as I am today because that is one hell of a statement to use as a mantra. Over the years I have built a lot of character, which is the ability to carry out a good resolution long after the mood which was made has left you. Learning to be consistent and persistent when you set a goal is crucial. Each day we face many challenges and obstacles, which can take us off our goal.
If we have chosen to JUST DO IT, no matter what, we will become successful. We must know that we have the Divine Spirit within that will be there for us through thick and thin, if we choose to take the time to accept it and let It move us through the challenges.
Today is your day to JUST DO IT!
Today Know: God acting through me brings great manifestations into my Life through My Consciousness. Today my goals are coming together, I am consistent and persistent on my journey knowing and trusting that All is unfolding in right and perfect order.
All that is necessary to my wellbeing and happiness is within, I have to look no further.
There can be no lack or limitation. I am free from any sense of bondage. Strength and courage are my Divine Birth right and I am now expressing My Truth in new and great ways. Today I am grateful to Just Do It, it is the healthy choice.
And So It Is

BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRAY NOW OPEN–Three men – a Canadian farmer, Osama bin Laden and an Aussie biker are all talking together one day..
They come across a lantern and a Genie pops out of it. ‘I will give each of you one wish, which is three wishes in total’, Says the Genie.
The Canadian says, ‘I am a farmer and my son will also farm. I want the land to be forever fertile in Canada ‘ POOF! With the blink of the Genie’s eye, the land in Canada was forever fertile for farming.
Osama was amazed, so he said, ‘I want a wall around Afghanistan, Palestine, Iraq, and Iran
so that no infidels, Australian or Canadians can come into our precious land.’ POOF! Again, with the blink of the Genie’s eye, there was a huge wall around those countries.
The Aussie says, ‘I am very curious. Please tell me more about this wall.’ The Genie explains, ‘Well, it’s about 5,000 feet high, 500 feet thick and completely surrounds the countries. Nothing can get in or out; it’s virtually impenetrable.’
The Aussie sits down on his Harley, cracks a beer, lights a cigarette, Smiles and says,
‘Fill it with water.’

Are ‘Watch for Motorcycles’ for safety or advertising–NORTON SHORES, Mich. (WZZM) — May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month.
One Norton Shores resident is trying to promote that, but he and the city disagree on one detail.
It’s creating a stir among the Lakeshore motorcycle community. Joe Kidd is one of the few with two views of the road. One is from his Harley; the other is from long hours in his semi-truck.
He’s seen his fair share of accidents, and near-accidents, involving motorcycles.
“It’s kind of ridiculous when we’re putting three people in the ground in one week, the same week I’m being harassed for a sign that says ‘watch out for motorcycles.'”
The issue isn’t the motorcycle lettering; it’s whose name is printed below. Hot Rod Harley Davidson makes and distributes the signs for free.
Norton Shores Fire Chief Dave Purchase says it’s advertising, and says city ordinance doesn’t allow off-premise advertising in the city.
“What we do when we see these signs is pull them from city right-away and contact the owner to advise them what the city ordinance is.
Purchase says if the signs are on private property, they ask residents to take them down, and remove them if the residents don’t comply.
The city advertising ordinance reads:
“No temporary sign shall be permitted which directs attention to a business or profession conducted as a permitted use, or to one principal commodity, service or entertainment sold or offered as a permitted use, upon the property where such sign is located.”
Scott Janiga with American Bikers Aiming Towards Education says the ordinance isn’t black and white, and went to the city for clarification.
“I’ve asked them to explain how does this pertain to a residential person, placing this sign, and they said to contact the city attorney,” said Janiga.
“To me, if it was advertising and Hot Rod wanted to draw attention to themselves, they would have done something like color, or highlighted their section,” said Kidd, pointing to the black and white yard sign.
“There’s no phone number, there’s no website, there’s no directions on how to get here,” said Clyde Whitehouse, owner of Hot Rod Harley Davidson.
Chief Purchase says the city has no problem promoting motorcycle safety, but Purchase says the city can’t allow one business to display its brand around town and not another. He says the city has given residents an alternative for a few years now.

THREE-WHEELERS MAY BE EXEMPTED FROM LOUISIANA HELMET LAW–
Louisiana was the most recent state to (re)impose a mandatory helmet law for all motorcyclists back in 2004, but the House Transportation committee recently advanced legislation that would exempt a new concept vehicle from the legal category that requires drivers to wear helmets.
HB 218’s exemption would apply to the three-wheeled Elio Motors vehicle, which is preparing for production at the Shreveport plant that once made pickups for General Motors. Because the Elio has three wheels, it’s considered a motorcycle under federal and state safety regulations.
“It definitely affects our sales because a lot of people don’t want to order the car if it requires wearing helmets,” said Joel Sheltrown, vice president for governmental affairs at Elio Motors, adding that “We’re not bound by automotive standards, but that is our goal.”
FROM THE NORML HEADQUARTERS–Denver, CO: Colorado lawmakers have approved first-in-the nation regulations governing the statewide commercial production and retail sale of cannabis to those age 21 and older. The regulations’ passage comes six-months after a majority of voters in November approved Amendment 64, which legalized the adult possession and cultivation of limited quantities of marijuana, and tasked the state with establishing regulations for the plant’s retail production and sale of cannabis to the public.
House Bill 1317 establishes a regulatory framework for retail cannabis businesses, which are anticipated to begin operating in early 2014. House Bill 1318 proposes tax rates for commercial marijuana production and sales.
Both measures await action from Democrat Gov. John Hickenlooper.
The two measures do not impact the state’s existing medical marijuana laws, nor do they interfere with existing legal protections legalizing the personal possession (up to one ounce) and cultivation (up to six plants) for non-commercial purposes.
Lawmakers’ proposed tax scheme must be approved by a majority of state voters this November before it may be implemented. Proposed taxes do not apply to those engaged in the personal cultivation or not-for-profit transfers of cannabis.
Under the proposed regulations, marijuana retailers must be Colorado residents. Marijuana sales are permitted to anyone over age 21, including non-residents.
For more information, please contact Allen St. Pierre, NORML Executive Director, at (202) 483-5500 or Paul Armentano, NORML Deputy Director, at: paul@norml.org.

Former Philly Officer Charged With Raping Women
By DAVID CHANG and DANIELLE JOHNSON
NBCPhiladelphia.com
A former Philadelphia police officer once hailed as a hero and given a seat next to the first lady at a speech by President Obama has been arrested and charged with raping two women and other crimes.
A source tells NBC10 former officer Richard DeCoatsworth, 27, met one of the women two weeks ago and forced her into prostitution at a local hotel. Between 2 a.m. Thursday and Friday evening, DeCoatsworth went to the woman’s home along North Howard Street in the Fishtown-Kensington area where there was a party, according to the source.
Once he arrived, DeCoatsworth forced that woman and a second woman, both in their 20s, to use drugs and perform oral sex on him at gunpoint, according to the source.
The alleged victims reported the assault Friday only after DeCoatsworth went home, according to police.
Police raided DeCoatsworth’s house on the 2700 block of Salmon Street in the Port Richmond section of Philadelphia around 6:30 a.m. on Saturday. He was arrested and charged with rape, sexual assault, terroristic threats and related offenses. Police also confiscated drugs and guns from the home, according to a source. No word yet on what kind of drugs were removed from the home.
NBC10’s Cydney Long talked to one of DeCoatsworth’s neighbors who said she was relieved to hear about the former cop’s arrest.
“I am scared to be saying this now but I hope he stays where he is at, he has been a thorn in the side of this neighborhood for so long,” said the woman who did not want to be identified.
The Daily News also reports he amassed nine citizen complaints, accusing him of assault, abuse and misconduct.
DeCoatsworth retired from the police force on disability back in December, 2011.
In February of 2012, an arrest warrant was issued for DeCoatsworth after he allegedly threatened a woman in Port Richmond.

BIKERNET OFFICIAL RETIREMENT JOB–
“Since I retired, I have been searching for that “just right” volunteer job. I just want to give back to the community a little something. I have looked around a long time & think I might have found it.
It had to be one where I didn’t feel like it was a chore. Something enjoyable. Something a little different from the ordinary day-in, day-out routine. At last I am truly comfortable being a volunteer. I no longer feel like my talents are being wasted on non-meaning, irrelevant trivialities.
I feel good again. I have found the perfect retirement job …
It’s only $12.00 an hour, but that’s OK. I would have paid more if they asked.

S&S Cycle attended the inaugural Big Bike Europe show in Essen, Germany last week, and it was a great experience–The show opened on Friday, May 10th and ran three days until Sunday, May 12. On Friday the show was only open to dealers and their guests, but Saturday and Sunday was open to the general public.
On Saturday night, S&S hosted a 55th Anniversary celebration party for S&S dealers, distributors, and members of the press and motorcycle media. No matter where you are, folks like a party and this was no exception. It was a good opportunity to unwind, reacquaint with old friends, and meet the S&S crew.
It’s always good to put a face with a name, Maja Hillegass, S&S Cycle’s sales representative for international accounts was on hand, and put it this way. “I really appreciated the chance to meet Dealers I have worked with over the past six years, most of whom I have only talked to over the phone or via email. I also enjoyed the opportunity to use my language skills; Danish, German, French and especially Spanish, as we had several visitors from both Spain and Argentina.”
One of the highlights of the show for S&S was the fabulous custom bike created for the show by Francesco Mattioli of Crazyoils Custom Builders from Segrate, Italy. Francesco started with a 1991 Harley-Davidson Sportster Deluxe, and with only a few months to work his magic, he created a masterpiece of design and innovation. The bike is beautiful, and best of all it’s a rider! It’ll be a fun ride too, featuring an S&S 883 to 1200 conversion kit, S&S 482 cams, S&S Super E carburetor, S&S Super Stock Stealth air cleaner and S&S performance mufflers.
Another highlight of the Big Bike Europe show was S&S company president Steve Iggens presenting an S&S TÜV compliant engine to Second City Customs for their bike “The Naughty Gentleman” in the Production Manufacturer Class. This award recognizes the recipient for creating a motorcycle that is innovative, visually arresting, and above all, rideable. As Steve puts it, “Building a great looking bike is one thing, but at S&S Cycle we make high performance parts, and they aren’t much use in a bike you can’t ride.”
WISCONSIN DNA DATABASE LAW– Last week, the Wisconsin Campaign for Liberty blasted Governor Walker and Assembly Speaker Robin Vos’ proposal to expand the DNA database to include individuals arrested for but not convicted of felonies.??
This measure spends $6,000,000 to expand DNA collection for a permanent database. It provides that anyone simply arrested, not convicted, for a felony would be forced to submit their DNA for a government database. It would also enable government to forcefully collect DNA for conviction of any crime whatsoever. ??
This proposal allows anyone who would be arrested and subsequently acquitted to `ask’ to have their DNA removed from the database, but a free person in a free country does not have to `ask’ to have their most intimate personal information removed from government databases, where it should not have been to begin with.
What is the legal way to refuse this without an implied consent of guilt or jail time awaiting processing?

NEW COP BIKES IN ALABAMA–MOBILE, Alabama – Seven new 2013 Harley Davidson electra-glide police edition motorcycles were officially added today to a fleet of 26 bikes during an unveiling at the Police Department’s First Precinct.
“These are life-saving pieces of equipment,” Mobile Police Chief Micheal T. Williams said during an afternoon news conference. “We put these motorcycles in area so people to slow people down.”
The motorcycle purchases, which cost the city $184,281, were funded through the city’s controversial penny sales tax increase in October 2012. The money comes from tax revenue raised from the city’s capital fund budget.
“When we were initiating the penny sales tax, this is one of the things we talked about with enhancing our public safety,” Mayor Sam Jones said. “We made provisions to order that equipment. One of the key purchase was for the Police Department and for new equipment. We are very pleased to see this happen and to put them in service now.”
The motorcycles, which are the first of the Police Department’s purchases to be delivered to the city, replace older models which date back to 2005.
The department also recently purchased radar equipment and four segways. The costs for those purchases are $31,240.
The entire extra revenue generated from the sales tax increase is supposed to be $25 million, though there has been some concerns raised about sales tax figures slumping this year in Mobile. Last month, though, the Finance Director Barbara Malkove said sales tax figures were on budget.

INDIAN MOTORCYCLE IS PROUD TO PARTICIPATED IN THE 2013 ANNUAL PACER BENEFIT THROUGH THE DONATION OF AN INDIAN CHIEF VINTAGE– MEDINA, Minn. — May 17, 2013 — Indian Motorcycle, America’s first motorcycle company, proudly donated a new 2013 Indian Chief Vintage to PACER Center for its Annual Benefit. During the event on May 11th, the motorcycle was auctioned for $32,000. All proceeds benefit PACER, an organization that provides individual assistance, workshops, publications, and other resources to help families make decisions about education and other services for their child or young adult with disabilities. In addition, PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center serves all children, including those with disabilities, by uniting and educating communities nationwide to prevent bullying.
Vice President of Polaris Motorcycle Steve Menneto was in attendance for the event. “Polaris Industries is committed to assisting organizations that support our local community. PACER is an incredible organization focusing on empowering families with information. With motorcycle enthusiast Jay Leno as this year’s event host, we were proud to donate this 2013 Chief Vintage LE to the PACER Benefit.”
Leno took part in the PACER live auction, helping boost the sale of the motorcycle to $32,000. Since 2005, Polaris has been actively involved in the PACER benefit donating ATVs, Rangers, snowmobiles and Victory motorcycles totaling more than $117,000.
PACER Center is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that relies on individual, corporate, and foundation contributions and support. PACER is fiscally responsible: Only 16 percent of funds are used for management and fundraising, so 84 percent of tax-deductible donations go directly to programs and services that assist all children including those with any disability and their families.
“We so appreciate the important support of Polaris to PACER Center which benefits children with disabilities and youth who have been bullied. The donation of the Indian motorcycle was amazing!” said Paula Goldberg, PACER’s executive director. “Jay Leno was fantastic in doing the auction of the motorcycle. We thank Polaris for their generosity and wonderful support for children!”
By making a donation, individuals are helping PACER provide opportunities for children and youth with disabilities. All contributions help keep services free of charge to families. PACER welcomes contributions in a variety of ways, and any amount is appreciated.
CONGRESSIONAL MOTORCYCLE CAUCUS in U.S. House
by James Holter
PICKERINGTON, Ohio — U.S. Reps. Michael Burgess (R-Texas) and Tim Griffin (R-Ark.) are serving as co-chairmen of the Congressional Motorcycle Caucus for the new 113th Congress, the American Motorcyclist Association reports.
The bi-partisan caucus, which has existed for many years, was formally recognized by the House for the new Congress. Official caucuses must register and be recognized at the start of every two-year Congress.
The caucus is made up of members of Congress who are passionate about motorcycling and who work to promote the interests of motorcyclists.
“It’s wonderful to have Reps. Burgess and Griffin leading the Congressional Motorcycle Caucus,” said Wayne Allard, AMA vice president for government relations and a former U.S. senator and representative from Colorado. “The Congressional Motorcycle Caucus is made up of dedicated members of Congress who ensure that motorcyclists aren’t forgotten on Capitol Hill. Reps. Burgess and Griffin have proven that they are true friends of motorcycling.
“We look forward to working with our old friends in the Congressional Motorcycle Caucus, as well as new members who join, to help protect and promote the motorcycling lifestyle,” Allard said.
Burgess said that he was looking forward to working with Griffin on the Caucus.
“We welcome the registration of the Motorcycle Caucus for the 113th Congress,” Burgess said. “Having previously served as the Caucus chair, I welcome Congressman Tim Griffin as co-chair. We, along with other congressional members, will once again provide a platform and a voice here in Washington for motorcycle enthusiasts and our safety.”
“I look forward to growing the Motorcycle Caucus as the voice in Congress for America’s more than 25 million motorcyclists,” Griffin said. “As a rider, I recognize that there are many important issues affecting us, such as unreasonable limits on trail riding areas, the need for additional safety awareness, and ethanol mandates that harm motorcycle engines.”
Caucus Member and House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Vice Chairman John Duncan said, “Motorcycling is important to my district and to me personally. I look forward to continuing to work with the co-chairs and other members to highlight the need for motorcycle safety and to promote the use of motorcycles and scooters as fun, fuel efficient transportation options for many Americans.”
The CMC includes members of Congress from both sides of the aisle who are committed to advancing motorcycling and improving the safety of motorcyclists. At the start of each Congress, all caucuses must be reestablished and recognized formally by the House. This is the fourth consecutive congressional session that the CMC has been organized.

Chief Ray Real says he reassigned Chavarria to “non-police” duties following an investigation. He declined to comment further, saying it was a personnel matter.
Chavarria then submitted his resignation.
The allegations stem from a paid obituary for Stevan Roybal that listed Roybal as a Bandidos member and Chavarria as an honorary pallbearer. Chavarria says Roybal was a childhood friend.

NEB MOTORCYCLE HELMET BILL WILL GET ANOTHER RIDE–LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — An effort to repeal Nebraska’s motorcycle-helmet law will get another ride in the Legislature, this time with a new crop of state lawmakers.
Opponents who have tried for two decades to repeal the helmet law are pushing for it again, with hopes that they can find enough votes among the 10 freshmen senators who came to Lincoln because of term limits. The closest they came was in 2010, when supporters secured a 27-vote majority but failed to hit the 33 needed to end a filibuster.
The sponsor, Sen. Dave Bloomfield, said the proposal could still go through a first-round vote before lawmakers adjourn on June 5. If the session ends before the bill clears a final vote, lawmakers will hold it over until next year.
Bloomfield — who rode a dirt bike around his farm in the 1970s — picked the measure as his priority bill, increasing the odds that it will see debate.
“I always wore a helmet,” said Bloomfield, of Hoskins. “It makes good sense to wear a helmet. But the government should not be requiring it. We have to do something to protect ourselves.”
The Legislature’s Transportation and Telecommunications Committee advanced the bill in March on a 5-3 vote. The committee proposed an amendment to the bill that would require riders to wear eye protection on highways, and only allow bikers old than 21 to ride without helmets. It also would apply to moped operators.
Nineteen states and the District of Columbia require all motorcyclists to wear helmets, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. As of January, three states — Illinois, Iowa and New Hampshire — imposed no helmet requirement.
Bloomfield said he agreed to a change in the Nebraska bill that helped secure the fifth vote to move it out of committee. The bill would ban passengers who are less than 4 feet tall, unless the passenger was at least 16 years old.
Supporters of repealing the helmet requirement argue that the state is losing tax revenue and tourism because riders often bypass the state. Omaha motorcyclist Scott Lucey said many riders avoid Nebraska because it requires helmets, while all of its border states except for Missouri do not.
“It should be a choice for people to wear or not to wear a helmet,” Lucey said. “It’s discouraging to people who want to come through Nebraska, but choose not to. People are getting tired, truly tired, of being micromanaged all the time.”
Lucey said motorcyclists ride almost every weekend in charity fundraising events for birth defects, religious groups and other causes, in both Iowa and Nebraska. Both events draw out-of-state bikers, he said, but Iowa — which has no helmet law — usually attracts at least twice as many. An annual rally in Iowa attracts more than 8,000 motorcyclists and generates more than $3 million in revenue, he said.
Medical and traffic-safety groups remain opposed to the bill. Nebraska already lacks services for residents with brain injuries, and eliminating the helmet requirement would only worsen the problem, said Kate Kulesher Jarecke, executive director of the Brain Injury Association of Nebraska.
Kulesher Jarecke said motorcyclists without helmets are three times more likely to suffer brain injuries in a crash. Half of all motorcyclists do not carry health insurance, she said, and many who are severely injured end up in state-fund care programs. She said many crashes are caused not by motorcyclists, but other motorists or things like blown tires.
“Wearing a helmet is the number one preventative measure,” to avoid brain injuries, she said. “As the Brain Injury Association, we’re not looking for new members.”
Patrick Lange, a Nebraska motorcyclist, told lawmakers in March about a crash in South Dakota that killed his wife and left him with permanent brain injuries. Neither was wearing a helmet, and Lange said his medical expenses totaled $1.7 million.
“I have to question if someone would have required us to wear helmets, if I would have had to suffer through all of that,” he said.
The bill is LB393

It’s all so strange to me. It’s all about money and not freedom. I’m always surprised to see the media support regulation, when they are struggling to keep free speech. Tomorrow the government could put dollar amounts on coverage or films. Say they said it cost us so much in medical costs because of shoot-em-up films, so they must be banned. Plus, must every bill be so complicated. It would be a kick, if they just said, “Let Freedom Ring,” and ditched the law.–Bandit
Springfield’s own Eric Burlison is working hard to rid Missouri of the need to wear those freedom-robbing helmets that provide at least one more layer for a curb or projectile to penetrate before splattering brain matter against curbs and other vehicles in motorcycle accidents.
Even Gary Busey, who was extremely vocal in his abhorrence of helmet laws until his head impacted a Southern California curb in a 1988 motorcycle accident, took to the legislatures to require helmet laws more than 20 years ago.
One only need to watch his role on “Celebrity Apprentice” to see the lasting impact of traumatic brain injury. I surmise that Rep. Burlison has not been in, or witnessed a motorcycle accident where the rider’s helmetless head was fractured, allowing the rider’s brain to be exposed. I was that witness some 35 years ago while traveling I-20 in Louisiana. Some things just cannot be unseen.
Those who argue against helmet laws say things like, “I should be able to ride free”; “I’m the only one who is hurt if I don’t wear a helmet”; “I can’t see around me as well” — but Burlison’s argument is economic. He is certain that riders bypass Missouri when they are on their bikes, and Missouri misses out on significant business because of that freedom-robbing helmet law.
Really? Where is that verifiable evidence? As Burlison is an employee of a hospital system in Springfield when he isn’t in Jefferson City, I ask the level 1 trauma surgeons in Missouri to invite him to every traumatic brain injury they see when a motorcycle accident occurs, and think about what might have been if that head had been covered by a freedom-impairing Department of Transportation-approved motorcycle helmet.

Here’s another one. Of course accidents are terrible. But accident prevention is the critical aspect. If a helmet causes an accident, but prevents the injury to the head while exacerbating a spinal injury, where do we stand? I say let Freedom Ring.–Bandit
MOTORCYCLE GROUP FINDS RESTAURANT POLICY HARD TO SWALLOW—
–By Ray Huard
Members of an American Legion motorcycle group said they were turned?away from a downtown Oceanside restaurant Saturday when they refused?to remove their vests, which identified them as members of the?veterans service group.
“We had our Legion Riders vests on with our Legion Riders patches on.?We were told we couldn’t come in with our vests on ” said Carlene?Warren, president of the American Legion Riders of Post 328 in Norco,?a Riverside County community north of Corona.??
The manager of Davina’s Cabo Grill and Cantina on Tremont Street in?Oceanside said it is the restaurant’s policy to require members of any motorcycle group to remove their identifying vests when they enter the?restaurant.
The manager, who identified herself as Christine and declined to give?her last name, said to allow the American Legion Riders to keep theirs?on would have been discriminatory against members of other motorcycle?groups.“It (the policy) is not against any organization. It’s a blanket?policy on any organization who wears vests to identify themselves,”she said.
Never before have members of any other group declined her request that?they remove their vests, the manager said. “They hang them on the back of their chairs, they put them right next to them,” she said.
The American Legion Riders are comprised of American Legion members and auxiliary members, Warren said. They are either military veterans or the children or spouses of veterans. The group provides honor?guards at the funerals of veterans and other events honoring veterans.

THE NORML REPORT, INHALING CANNABIS SMOKE STUDY–Los Angeles, CA: Subjects who regularly inhale cannabis smoke possess no greater risk of lung cancer than do those who consume it occasionally or not at all, according to data presented at the annual meeting of the American Academy for Cancer Research.
Investigators from the University of California, Los Angeles analyzed data from six case-control studies, conducted between 1999 and 2012, involving over 5,000 subjects (2,159 cases and 2,985 controls) from around the world.
Researchers reported, “Our pooled results showed no significant association between the intensity, duration, or cumulative consumption of cannabis smoke and the risk of lung cancer overall or in never smokers.”
Previous case-control studies have also failed to find an association between cannabis smoking and head and neck cancers or cancers of the upper aerodigestive tract.
Preclinical studies have documented that cannabinoids possess potent anti-cancer properties, including the inhibition of lung cancer cell growth. To date, however, scientists have yet to conduct clinical trials seeking to replicate these results in human subjects.

About 75 people were inside the clubhouse at the time of the shooting.
A woman received a superficial gunshot wound to the back. She was treated and released. A man who was shot in the head is in stable condition, and a second man shot in the shoulder and stomach is in critical condition. All three victims were transported to Phoenix area hospitals.
Hours later, deputies located another adult male with a gunshot wound. He was treated at the scene for his injuries by medical personnel.
Investigators said they don’t know yet what sparked the shooting.

I lived in Oceanside during the 1980s and I worked for Santa Fe railroad, you had t shirts that said coming at you in 1980 or something like that, anyway the Oceanside newspaper took a picture of me hanging on the side of a boxcar. I went down on my ‘82 wideglide, so I went to your shop and bought a Paucho ridged frame, and a Karata primary and drive belt system. I was very very happy with that set up and how easy it was to install.

City of Glendale campaigns for motorcycle safety–
–by Scott Pasmore
GLENDALE, Ariz. — It seems like almost every day, we hear about accidents around the valley involving motorcycles. Unfortunately, those crashes sometimes leave riders severely injured or dead.
But one city is hoping to put an end to that. As Scott Pasmore found out on Tuesday’s Good Morning Arizona, Glendale is launching a new campaign for motorcycle safety.
Glendale’s Mayor Jerry Weiers was on hand to help folks hang up dozens of signs around the city. The signs read: “Look Twice for Motorcycles”. The campaign is designed to raise awareness of motorcycles on the road, and cut down on the numbers of accidents.
“It happens way too frequently; way too often ” says Weiers. “If people just take an extra second, and look in that mirror one more time. It only take a second to kill somebody, but it only takes a second to prevent it.”
Weiers says he hopes other mayors in other cities will take notice of what Glendale is doing and implement a similar program. “Obviously the idea is just to get people to take the extra time to look,” says Weiers. “Education is a big portion of it. The ideal thing would be if we could take down all the signs and not worry about it, but until the accidents stop, we need to keep pursuing this.”
By the way, Mayor Weiers, a biker himself, is heading to Sturgis on his motorcycle in August.
His head is in the right place. Training and awareness are the answers to safety, and they both respect the Free country we live in.–Bandit
CONNECTICUT RIDERS DECRY PROPOSAL TO REGULATE EXHAUST SYSTEMS–
An unexpected effort in the General Assembly to crack down on noisy motorcycles is being met by opposition from the motorcycle industry. Under language added last week to a bill involving off-road ATVs, the sale, registration or operation of a street motorcycle having non-stock pipes would become a fineable offense. Most after-market exhaust systems are not EPA-certified.
The new provisions, if approved, would require federal Environmental Protection Agency noise emission control labels to be displayed on all motorcycles, and would institute fines of up to $250 per offense for non-compliance.

BIKERNET OFFICIAL CERTIFIED PHILISOPHER EXPOUNDS, Don’t You Quit–
When the going gets tough the tough get going.
As I reflected on my life while preparing for this writing I thought about the how many times I quit a goal when I was so close to reaching it. Last week the amazing Candice Glover won American Idol, this was her third try. I watched her being interviewed by Jay Leno and she shared that the people at American Idol told her she would be nothing more than a lounge singer after her first attempt, what a crime it would have been had she quit.
As we go through Life we have so many opportunities to quit, can you imagine where you would be today had you given up on some of the goals in your life. I love the saying quitters never win and winners never quit. It seems that many of us fear failure but sabotage success and we are willing to accept these patterns.
Let me tell you from the bottom of my heart this is NOT our Truth. If we just will change our beliefs and know we are blessed for success in every area of our Lives. We must learn to be consistent and persistent on our path. When we are faced with obstacles and challenges deal with them. We have Then Divine Solution within, go there for the energy and answer that you need to find the solution.
I know sometimes we feel like we just don’t have the energy to take on another challenge and would rather just quit. Pause, regroup and kick the crap out of the problem and find the solution. Remember the lessons of Life are repeated until they are learned.
And So It is

BIKERNET NORML NEWS–Montpelier, VT: State lawmakers have signed off on a House measure (HB 200) that amends penalties for the possession of up to one ounce of marijuana and/or marijuana paraphernalia by those age 21 or older from a criminal misdemeanor (punishable by up to six-months in jail and a $500 fine) to a civil fine only — no arrest, no jail time, and no criminal record.
The measure awaits action from Democrat Gov. Peter Shumlin, who has expressed support for liberalizing the state’s marijuana possession penalties. If signed into law, the measure will take effect on July 1, 2013.
Fifteen states have enacted similar laws decriminalizing pot possession offenses.
