Happy Easter,
But we still needed to complete the Sunday Post. It’s been a wild weekend starting on Good Friday, as we scrambled to complete the minor changes to Bob Bitchin’s new stretched FXR.
We survived, and Bob picked up his new ride with fresh paint from Ronnie Teserone and blazed north Saturday at 8:00 a.m.
I received a call at almost 10:30 from my Grandson, Frankie, who recently bought his dad’s Mudflap Girl (see the Post about another Mudflap Girl discovery) FXR. He wanted to bring it over for tuning and break-in, in the middle of the night. I opted for noon on Friday. Of course that didn’t happen and he showed up about 5:00, and we went to work tinkering and tightening.
Saturday we awoke and peeled to the marina for breakfast, and then to Phillips Steel for brackets. We spent all day working on Frank’s bike, but as the sun went down we started making test rides. Of course the kid didn’t seem to understand the Eddie Trotta notion of breaking in a bike, he just went for it, while his mother text’d me her terrified concerns.
At about 7:30 that evening he strapped on his back-back and peeled out. But just as I was headed to the floating yacht club for dinner with our official certified welder, Toby, I received an urgent call. Frankie was broke down, just a couple of miles down Anaheim Boulevard toward Long Beach. We rolled to his rescue.
Let’s hit the news, then I’ll finish the story of intrigue, electrical problems, and mysteries, but no girls. Thank God.

BIKERNET ENGINEER DIES–A Bikernet engineer dies and reports to the Pearly Gates.
Saint Peter checks his dossier and, not seeing his name there, accidentally sends him to Hell.
It doesn’t take long before the engineer becomes rather dissatisfied with the level of comfort in Hell.
He soon begins to design and build improvements. Shortly thereafter, Hell has air conditioning, flush toilets and escalators. Needless to say, the
engineer is a pretty popular guy.
One day, God calls Satan and says: “So, how are things in Hell?”
Satan replies: “Hey, things are going great. We’ve got air conditioning, flush toilets, and escalators. And there’s no telling what this engineer is going to come up with next.”
“What!” God exclaims: “You’ve got an engineer?
That’s a mistake – he should never have been sent to Hell. Send him to me.”
“Not a chance,” Satan replies: “I like having an engineer on the staff, and I’m keeping him!”
God insists: “Send him back or I’ll sue.”
Satan laughs uproariously and answers: “Yeah, right. And where are you going to get a lawyer?

Harley-Davidson announces AUSTRALIAN Dealer of the Year– Harley-Davidson Australia said it was proud to announce the winner of the 2012 Australia Dealer of the Year Award, Gasoline Alley in Slacks Creek, Queensland.
First introduced by Harley-Davidson in 2011, the award recognizes annual performances and best practices across 200 dealerships in 15 countries. Dealers are judged across three categories: dealership management, retail capability and business results.
Gasoline Alley Dealer Principal, Grant Price said, “Being named as the Harley-Davidson Australia Dealer of the Year is an incredible accomplishment for all of the team at Gasoline Alley. The achievement truly rewards all of the hard work that we have put in as a team over the past 12 months. It’s a real honour to receive the recognition amongst the global dealer network.”
The dealership will be awarded a bronze “Dealer of the Year” plaque for display and a personalized celebratory party for the hard working team. The dealership takes over the accolade from the 2011 inaugural award winner, Harley City of Brunswick, Victoria.
Commenting on the Dealer of the Year program and the success of Gasoline Alley, Peter Nochar, Harley-Davidson Australia & New Zealand Managing Director said, “We would like to congratulate the team at Gasoline Alley for their exceptional effort and performance in 2012. Gasoline Alley prevailed throughout the 2012 judging process as a high performing dealership. The standard of excellence was incredibly high across the board so we would also like to thank each and every one of our official dealerships for their continued hard work in contributing to the ongoing success of Harley-Davidson in Australia.”

BIKERNET UNIVERSITY ENGLISH DEPARTMENT FINDS PERFECT TERM FOR BIKERNET STAFFER–gaumless GAWM-lis, adjective:
A little chuckle shook the Major, but he said regretfully: “Nay, I’m too gaumless.”
“Did I ever look so stupid: so ‘gaumless,’ as Joseph calls it?” “Worse,” I replied, “because more sullen with it.”
A variant spelling of gormless, gaumless first appeared in English in the mid-1700s from the now-outdated British term gome. When combined with the suffice -less the word literally means “devoid of understanding.”

SOUTH AUSTRALIAN COPS DECLARE MOTORCYCLE CLUBS TO BE SOMETHING BAD– South Australian police claim through one of their pet reporters that they are on the brink of a major legal assault on South Australia’s three largest motorcycle clubs. The reporter says police have revealed they are set to launch Supreme Court action to have the Finks motorcycle club declared a criminal organisation – and if successful, followed by applications to have the Hells Angels MC and the Rebels MC outlawed.
The legal moves will be the first since the Supreme Court and then High Court ruled the Government’s anti-biker/anti-association legislation invalid, forcing it to heavily amend key sections.
The Government says it expects the moves to spark an immediate counter-legal response from the respective clubs.
There are claims from unnamed senior legal ‘sources’ that the Rebels are already in preparatory talks with high-profile Sydney silk Bret Walker – a constitutional law expert – to challenge any application made to the courts.
While the Rebels application has been under way for the past nine months, police have revealed the Finks and Hells Angels applications have been compiled covertly over the past four months.
Police are in the final stages of detailed checking procedures with lawyers in the Crown Solicitor’s office in each application.
Under the amended Serious and Organised Crime (Control) Act an Eligible Judge, selected by Chief Justice Chris Kourakis, can declare a motorcycle club a criminal organisation if satisfied with the evidence – much of it likely to be untested so called confidential ‘criminal intelligence’ – that police present in their application.
If that application is approved, police can then apply to the Supreme Court for a control order against a member of the declared organization, preventing them from associating with other members – effectively preventing the club or organization from operating. Anyone failing to comply with an order faces a maximum jail term of five years.
It is understood police will lodge the Finks application first because of concerns over the extreme level of violent incidents involving club members – attributed to tensions with the Hells Angels and an ongoing internal power struggle.
Police say the conflict with the Hells Angels has resulted in one murder whilst the internal row in the Finks has seen one associate and one full member almost killed after being assaulted – and in one incident then thrown over a cliff.
Senior police yesterday confirmed preparations were underway.
“SAPOL staff are currently preparing a significant volume of information necessary to make applications for Declarations against OMCGs (outlaw motorcycle gangs),” Assistant Commissioner (Crime) Paul Dickson said. “SAPOL has every intention of using the Declaration process to disrupt the criminal enterprises of OMCGs.”
Attorney-General John Rau yesterday said he was unable to comment on specific applications because they were police operational matters.
“I can say however that it is important that any application made is carefully prepared. This can and should take time,” he said.
“The Government’s role is to provide SAPOL with the legislative tools it needs to crackdown on organized bikie crime. What matters now is that these laws are effectively enforced.”
AND NOW FOR THE BIKERNET SCIENCE CLASS–
And how many years has the glacier that once covered most of North America been retreating north now??????????????????
The Washington Post
The Arctic Ocean is warming up, icebergs are growing scarcer and in some places the seals are finding the water too hot, according to a report to the Commerce Department yesterday from Consulafft, at Bergen , Norway.
Great masses of ice have been replaced by moraines of earth and stones, the report continued, while at many points well known glaciers have entirely disappeared.??Very few seals and no white fish are found in the eastern Arctic, while vast shoals of herring and smelts which have never before ventured so far north, are being encountered in the old seal fishing grounds. Within a few years it is predicted that due to the ice melt the sea will rise and make most coastal cities uninhabitable.

A LETTER FROM DON GARLITS–
My long life buddy, partner and friend died at home this morning at 6 AM. This was the final result of an Airboat accident several years ago, Art was injured severely and never fully recovered. I talked to him on March 27th and he was in good spirits, thought he had lost a lot of weight.
The brute of a man was down to 175 pounds, my weight! His wife Sandra was at his side.
It grieves me to write this, but I must as Art and I go a long way back, in 1942 we rode the Twin Lakes School bus together, became friends and never had a quarrel. Art was younger than I, but a tall boy and timid at that young age. I once beat up a bully that was picking on him and we have been very close ever since.
Art initially started racing round track cars and I once borrowed a flathead Ford engine out of his stock car to run an event while my engine was being repaired, I won with Art’s engine, but he continued to race the round tracks.
Then in 1959, I was burned severely and Art and his wonderful late wife Lorraine came to the hospital and he offered to drive the Swamp Rat I car while I recuperated. Art took to Drag Racing like a “Duck to Water”, setting the new Drag News 1320 Record at his first outing in Sanford Maine, 183,66 MPH, breaking my old record set at Houston TX the week before the Chester fire.
Art continued to raise the 1320 record several times and in 1960 built his own car at Al Williams shop in Kansas. He won the US Fuel and Gas Championships held in Bakersfield CA in 1963 with his own home-built car, Ed Iskenderian was his Crew Chief! He set the oval track record of 181.561 MPH at the Daytona Speedway on August 28th 1961, receiving the $10,000.00 prize posted by Bill France of NASCAR fame for the first person over 180 on a closed course, driving the “Mad Dog” a winged version of an Indy car, built by the late Bob Osiecki from Chester SC.
The “Mad Dog” now rests in the Don Garlits Museum of Drag Racing as a tribute to this man’s many accomplishments. We teamed up again in 1984 putting “Garlits and Malone” on Swamp Rat 26, a car removed from the museum and refitted with modern parts purchased by Art to be able to run the 1984 NHRA US Nationals, we won the race, the competitors were calling us “Dinosaurs”, we then proceeded to the NHRA World Finals, winning again!
Art and I then won the NHRA World Championships two years in a row, 1985 and 1986. Art was inducted into the Drag Racing Hall of Fame in 1997 and he supported the Museum from the very beginning. This is just a brief summary of Art’s life, as it would take an entire book to list it all, he was a man’s man and will be missed by all racing fans and competitors.
Please circulate widely.
Thanks,

BIKERNET’S SPORTS CENTER REPORT FROM BRIAN GUMBY–On a golf tour in Ireland , Tiger Woods drives his Mercedes into a petrol station in a remote part of the Irish countryside.
The pump attendant who knows absolutely nothing about golf, greets him in a typical Irish manner completely unaware of who the golfing pro is.
“Top of the mornin’ toyer, sir” says the attendant.
Tiger nods a quick “hello” and bends forward to pick up the nozzle. As he does so, two tees fall out of his shirt pocket onto the ground.
“They’re called tees” replies Tiger.
“Well, what on this god’s earth are dey for?”? Inquires the Irishman.
“They’re for resting my balls on when I’m driving”, says Tiger.
“Fookin Jaysus”, says the Irishman,
“Mercedes thinks of everything!”.

TEXAS GUN NUT REPORT– Seems so.
Thought you might like to read this…
U.S. Supreme Court’s 1968 Haynes v. U.S. decision: Haynes, a convicted felon, was convicted of unlawful possession of an unregistered short-barreled shotgun. He argued that for a convicted felon to register a gun was effectively an announcement to the government that he was breaking the law and that registration violated his Fifth Amendment protection against self-incrimination. The court, by an 8 – 1 margin, agreed, concluding: “We hold that a proper claim of the constitutional privilege against self-incrimination provides a full defense to prosecutions either for failure to register a firearm, or for possession of an unregistered firearm.”
(Summary from American Rifleman magazine, March 2000, page 20)
So, when these gun registration schemes are announced, be very aware that only lawful gun-owners are required to register their firearms. Unlawful owners are exempted from registration laws due to their constitutional protection against self-incrimination. Amazing… but true.

NRA REPORTS–Gun-Ban Legislation “Just the Beginning” — Pelosi: “Not the End of the Day for this Issue “This week, Vice-President Joe Biden, and House Minority Leader, Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), showed us–once again–how thorough their contempt is for our Constitutionally guaranteed Second Amendment rights.
According to a Washington Times article, on a Wednesday conference call organized by “Mayors Against Illegal Guns,” Biden referred to current anti-gun legislation and told his anti-gun supporters, “Let me say this as clearly as I can: this is just the beginning.”
As the article notes, recent surveys show increasing opposition to stricter gun control measures. But this fact matters not to Biden; nor to Pelosi, who also voiced a determination to continue pushing for gun bans, no matter what the American public says.
“I’ve been to a number of states since this Congress has gone in and many parts of different states and the public is so far ahead of the Congress on this subject. I believe whatever passes in the Congress now will not be the end of the day for this issue.”
The anti-gunners see momentum from tragedy as an asset. They believe that momentum is now on their side. And they clearly intend to press that perceived advantage to promote their agenda. They don’t care that polling data contradicts them or that past experiments with the same type of legislation have failed. For them, the real goal is restricting firearm ownership in America–as much as they can, however they can, and whenever they can.
“This is a very big deal for the public,” Pelosi concluded. “But again, it’s a legislative body, and we have to go forward as boldly as we possibly can, and I would not say, well, if the assault weapon ban isn’t there that that means less is going to happen down the road. I think it means more should happen up the road as we go forward.”
Please be sure to contact your elected officials today, and respectfully urge them to protect our Second Amendment rights. Ask them to oppose anti-gun legislation, especially Sen. Charles Schumer’s (D-N.Y.) S. 374, the “Fix Gun Checks Act of 2013”–which would criminalize virtually all private firearm sales, even temporary transfers– and Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s (D-Calif.) S. 150, the “Assault Weapons Ban of 2013.”
To identify and contact your legislators in Washington, D.C., you can use the “Write Your Reps” feature at www.NRAILA.org, or you can reach your member of Congress by phone at 202-224-3121.
Why don’t these guys think first of Freedom and the code of the American West—the foundation of this country. If that was the case Joe Biden would stand proud and say, “This is just the beginning of our renewed respect for freedom.”
FIND OUT MORE–See your state representative(s) stance on gun control. Are they doing what you want them to do? Send him/her a message and then forward this to friends in other states.

SO THERE WE WERE—Standing in the dark, deep in the container stacked industrial area of the port of Long Beach trying to chase wiring to no avail. There was only one solution, shine on dinner, return to the headquarters and grab our Kendon stand-up lift and blaze back.
That’s how the plan began. But when I returned the bike was idling nicely. I told him to ride it back to the headquarters and we would take it from there. He stopped and started it several times, rode it back to the headquarters, where it did it again. Only the lights would dim slightly when the started button was depressed. I reached out to the designer of the Grip Ace system and he called me bright and early Sunday morning. “I’ll be there Monday morning,” Tim said. “Sounds like a loose connection.”
I hope so. I want an obvious answer. I have two copies of Tim Remus’ new book about wiring. Plus, we are about to publish a wiring tech about Wire Plus systems. Usually it’s a bad ground. We will see. There you have it. Drop me a note if you have any notions. I suspect the starter relay.
Ride Forever,
